Problem with encrypted storage - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've been using UltimaROM v12.0 with device encryption no problem. I switched off device encryption and proceeded to factory reset/flash v15.0 and have since restarted only to find my S3 asking for an encryption phrase.
Not sure what's happening here, I've tried the passphrase I've been using multiple times and it just says try again. I don't understand why it thinks the file system is encrypted, I can browse the file system within CWM/TWRP without it asking for an encryption phrase, but when I do a normal boot it comes up with the password prompt?
Any advice? Thanks.

Sometimes downloads aren't starting at all

I have a Moto Z with stock image, Magisk Root and Turbo Z Custom Kernel.
As far as I see everything is fine except two one things:
1. Sometimes downloads aren't starting at all. Which is very weird because regular surfing with Chrome works flawlessly. But if I want to watch a video from YouTube (regardless whether YouTube app or within Chrome) the video won't play sometimes. The same happens with F-Droid downloads. Sometimes an installation/updated doesn't even start the download. The network is fine (it works perfectly with any other device).
2. I have a screenlock set up but I don't think there is encryption active. I have to type the password just once (device boots to GUI then SIM pin, then unlock PIN). On encryption the unlock PIN have to be entered bevore booting into the GUI — right? However, Security Settings claims that the phone is encrypted. I wanted to set / change the password with cryptfs password manager but the app doesn't even start claiming 'cannot get superuser access' (maybe it's not compatible to Magisk?). Is it possible to change/set the password in this state without risking data loss?
The stock kernel enforces encryption, the z-kernel doesen't. However, your stock kernel already did its deeds. So if you really want to remove encryption, here is what you might want to do:
Remove all phone passwords (pin/password/pattern etc), then make a backup of everything. (If you don't & then restore such a backup, you'll always end up with password/pin/pattern mismatch).
Then boot into TWRP recovery and format(!) data partiton (erase just doesn't cut it..). If there's still a problem, change data's filesystem to ext4 and then back to f2fs - that should remove any nasty residual settings.
Then reboot & enjoy. Maybe you can restore the backed-up data files to the unencrypted partition now, but I wouldn't bet on it...
Hi again @benzinerwin
However, I don't want to remove encryption. I want to enable it.
It says that it is enabled in settings but I strongly doubt that it actually is.
Just change the password, opt for boot password (or whatever it's called), boot into TWRP and see if it asks for password/pattern to unlock access to the data partition...
If you cannot get there, just do the above, end up with an unencrypted data partition and the go through the settings and trigger the encryption with boot pass etc...

That was it
In retrospective this is pretty obvious. Thank you.
Now just the problem with the struggling downloads is left.
Hmm, about the strange download problem... that pretty much sounds like an app not having all the requested rights (look through all the settings, not just the app's properties... [sigh])
But it affects all apps. Even Chrome. Regular surfing is fine but for example loading a YouTube file sometimes doesn't even start.

samsung s4 - unlock encryption

Hi all,
I just tryed to add a company account to my phone. During this process I was asked to add a new Administrator. Just after confirm, the phone unmonted the SD card and wanted to encrypt the phone. How to reverse?
The phone is still not encrypted and I don't want the encryption. But I cannot mount my SD card without encryption and I cannot change any security setting (only password is available as lock screen - till now I have a PIN). And, I cannot clear the certificate memory (Clear credentials is grayed).
I removed the exchange account, but this does not help.
I'm using a stock GT-I9506 with 5.0.1
Thanks for any help.
solved
I fount the solution. After selecting password as lock screen I started the encryption. During the last confirmation I aborted. After that all was like before.

Pattern Lock on boot changed to Password Entry without Reason (HTC One M8 | RR 5.8.5)

Hi Everyone!
I am running latest version of Resurrection Remix (7.1.2) on my HTC One M8 and somehow, the Pattern unlock Sequence i have set during Boot (using it since Months!) has changed to a Password entry Box without any reasons.
I have never set any Password or PIN for the Device, so i have been locked out.
Just to make sure, i have also tried any PIN and Password that i could remember.
Disc Encryption is active , but i can access System and SD Partitions in TWRP without entering a Pattern/PIN.
I have read some Guides wich describe how to delete pass and pattern key-files to bypass the Boot Security, but without success yet. Any Ideas, what might have changed the Pattern Protection and how to revert it?
Thanks in advance!

Google Account is safe and definitely not hacked.
Secured by 2-step-authentication and i still have access to it. there is also nothing wrong in phone management there. already checked this.
And to get this straight, the device is not auto locked as you may from device management in your google account.
Disc has been encrypted and a pattern has been set for decryption. this pattern has changed to Password entry.
same password entry that you have when encrypting with a password.
i had this behaviour before on some older cm versions on my samsung i9305...
i have started creating a current backup and will restart everything from scratch.
seems more like an error in android, than <<s,h,i,t>>
all hail to titanium backup!
thanks anyways.

OK, this bug is reproducable.
i have tested it twice.
- clean install from scratch
- disc encryption
- creating a nandroid backup
- reboot afterwards
-> pattern set before is not available, but a password prompt asking for a password that i had never set.
System details:
Phone 1:
HTC One M8
resurrection remix ROM 5.8.5
TWRP Recovery Version 3.1.1-0
Phone 2:
Google Nexus 5
resurrection remix ROM 5.8.5
TWRP Recovery Version 3.1.1-0
Anyone else? :/
EDIT:
This does ot happen, if i don't create a nandroid backup. seems linked somehow ...

Re-Enter Pin Problem

Hey Guys.
I am using and modding my android devices since the legendary Dream device. Yesterday I wanted to change the current rom on my Xiaomi Mi6 but some roms didn't work. I got tired of trying around and to encrypt the phone every time i am in recovery menu, so I installed the rom i used before and which worked, went to security settings, disabled my pin protection and started flashing again. Then i noticed, that every rom hang up at the "configure your fingerprint" setting. It kept asking me to "re-enter your pin. Enter your device pin to continue". I have used the same screen pin for years but the device keeps saying, that I use the wrong pin.
How can I change my current pin? Is there a google pin which it keeps asking for? Am i mixing any pins up?
Do i have to "fastboot format userdata" to solve this issue?
solved - the only way was to wipe, install rom, then without starting the rom boot into fastboot and delete all personal data with "fastboot format userdata".

I have no words to express my huge thank you!
Boot To TWRP Recovery Then, head to Advanced > File Manager, and go to the /data/system folder. Scroll down and find the two files with the .key extension. Delete both of them (by tapping on the file and then tapping the “Delete” button). Then, delete all the files containing the word locksettings.
Ex. locksettings.db
And REBOOT .......
enjoy.
Hope your issue solved

Can't manipulate /system and encrypted

Hello guys. I got my phone Redmi 6, i unlocked bootloader and i flashed TWRP.
I'm having Magisk 17.2 on my stock ROM. I wanted to uninstall some bloatware but i realised i can't do anything with /system at all.
I tried several root browsers and ES File Explorer. Every of them ends with errors like "Couldn't remove folder/Read-only filesystem" or "Error". I'm sure im rooted and i even tried remounting.
I can't even add folder. (I'm sorry if it's something really stupid)
Also, my problem number 2. Everytime i boot into my TWRP, it has it's default settings and screen won't even turn on(I have to click power button twice) then screen asks for decrypting /data. I tried
all guides, i formated Data, i tried my lockscreen passwords. Nothing worked for me yet.
Thanks.
