It seems like you are missing the driver for your Phone, they should Install automatically after connecting your phone to your computer.

[Q] Rooting and flashing from stock issues

I've run a search through this forum and cant seem to find the answers I'm looking for. I am not new to flashing or rooting (except for this device) so this is very perplexing. I've tried to use odin to flash a custom rom, but it doesn't connect in download mode, however when the player is rebooted and on my home screen it connects to odin and says ready blah blah blah... Is this normal? My phones need to be in download mode to connect and flash, so what is going on here? USB debugging is active, I even allowed non marketplace apps in hopes that might do it, no go. Also can't seem to get Super One Click to recognize the device either.

Have you installed the samsung drivers here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
Also if you have kies running, disable all the process with the name kies on it (it can cause problems with odin).

Have you tried another usb port? Sometimes odin don't work on a specific port and can work on the other.
Still nothing, man this device blows lol
It cant be good to flash outside of download mode correct? I'd rather not brick my mp3 player, it gets me through my day lol

There's always heimdall (which is better than odin but kind of harder the first time you install it). But what is the version of your odin (just knowing).

Oh well, it should work. I don't know why it don't work though as I'm not on windows I can't really tell.
1) Restart computer and try again
2) Use a different USB port
3) Go into your Task Manager (alt, ctrl, delete) and disable anything in the process tab that mentions kies in it's title
4) Try another usb cord

Have you installed the Kies drivers on your computer? I'm not 100% sure, but I think you may need USB Debugging enabled too. Try these and then try again. Remember to make sure you have killed all Kies related processes from your Task Manager before using Odin, as it could potentially mess up the flashing process.
Do you have Samsung Kies and all its necessary drivers installed?
*EDIT* Sorry, it seems like i didn't see your comment.

Ok, try these steps I found on Microsoft's support website:
As all the hardware devices have drivers associated similarly USB devices also have it. Sometimes proper drivers do not get detected after the initial installation so reinstallation of the drivers helps resolve the issues.
You may check after uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers if you are able to connect. You may disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.
* Note * If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
3. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
Check if at all there is an exclamation mark along the driver, it suggests issues with the driver installed.
4. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
If you still face the same issue then you may check for the updated USB device drivers using windows update.
no luck

Try a different Micro-USB cable if possible, and in different USB ports in your computer.
Also try this:
1. Hold your phone and look at the micro USB connector on the bottom edge of your phone.
2. You will see a "tongue" inside the USB port.
3. Put something "non metalic" (I used a flat wooden toothpick) in the port. Gently, lift up the "tongue". I used a twirling motion on my toothpick to raise the tongue up a little bit. Don't go PRYING it up, just be gentle because you don't want to break your toothpick inside the phone or break the tongue.
no luck

Did you try install the drivers I linked you to? It clearly isn't the phone it is your computer not finding the drivers! The previous poster suggested something I suggested ages ago and you thank him for that post, I have posted like 5 responses and you keep responding that nothing is working, and haven't thanked me for anything. I'll let you figure it out yourself, I'm done.

Bricked

Hey, I have looked everywhere on the internet and I can't seem to find any solution for my problem so I thought I would post here. I bricked my Galaxy Ace when I was trying to upgrade the ROM quite some time ago, I have tried to unbrick with odin, odin oneclick, oneclick unbrick and none of those seem to recognize my phone. I think that the trouble is that there is something wrong with my phone and my computer cannot detect it. I was just wondering if there are any other ways to unbrick??
-Any help greatly appreciated

Try another USB cable....additionally check the standard protocol for USB at developer options -> USB configuration.
