.. my apologies if this not the appropriate place to post this, but I need help..the little battery door/flap that clips into place which holds the actual battery in place and covers the SIM card (not the black battery cover/antenna) has broken!!.. Now whenever the phone drops or is handled rough enough to cause the battery cover/antenna to come off, the battery slides out of place and the phone turns off.. this happens multiple times throughout the day..i'm ready to throw this phone into the far reaches of this galaxy to say the least... if thats not bad enough, the little chrome peice that surrounds the sensor part of the optical trackpad on the front of the phone has fallen out .. it really takes away from the beauty of the phone!.. any idea where I can find replacement parts for these???.. used or new, it doesn't matter ... If ANYONE can help me i'd be indebted to you for ever!!!
Try contacting HTC.. They make the phones and they should know.. And btw.. Handle your phone a little more careful..

Damn, i've always been afraid of that happening expirimenting and having to remove the battery frequently. Don't know anything to help you, sorry
I have the same broken part. Been looking around for this part for a while with no luck. HTC want £44 to replace it, only by sending it in for a repair. They will not sell me the part and I cannot find it anywhere.
I will keep an eye on this thread for more suggestions.
Tape? Although it would have to stick to the aluminum unibody. See if it works! My head's imagery seems like it could.
Yes, my Legend is basically held together with tape. Without it, the battery cover comes of very easily. It's been like this for about 6 weeks now.
I've also been in to my local Vodafone shop to see what they say. They will not repair it as it's a moving part.
Buy your Legend a silicone or rubber case. That should prevent black cover from falling off.
Sent from my HTC Legend
why don't u fill the gap between the black part and ur battery with a soft rubber?
i think it'll solve ur problem
I want this part too. The center clip mechanism has failed due to taking the cover off regularly.
Oh my goodness, I should stop switching SIMs every now and then. I'm scared, actually.

I was thinking of placing a secundairy antenna on that part, so you would stil have an small antena if the lid is missing. or maybe even better reception.
If you still have problems with the battery cover/flap, here's what i did on my legend: Take out the battery, look inside the battery compartment, you'll see the four battery contacts/pins, and right next to them you'll see there is a small black square rubber, glued to a metal spring underneath. The spring is heavily glued to the chassis/plastic body. I took a small (but strong) set of tweezers, and pulled the thing off the phone (the spring + the small rubber attached to it), and my phone works perfectly now, with the broken flap. The thing is that the spring is actually pushing the battery out, for "easier" removal, thus making the battery loose contact/fall out on every shake/impact.
I think that the design of this part is the worst about the legend. On mine I have experienced that the grip is weaker and weaker, and now comes off quite easily (unintended).
Hi there, it's only me or the cover for USB and HDMI (but the second one is less important) sucks? opening it's ok with my nail but get back in closed position is hard -.-, and I have the fear to break the small plastic connection :S tips? I'm thinking about remove them...
I have got a technique to do it, but it's hard to explain. I push the top of the cover inside first, then the bottom.

Exactly, it slides in at an angle, then click in the bottom.
I agree it looks flimsy; I had the same fear with the usb port cover on my X10 though, and it lasted well over 2 years of daily charging.
I am used to it now, it's still pointless though. My Nexus One had no cover and the USB port is still working fine after well over 2 years. I don't know why some manufacturers think a cover is necessary.

It's way prettier, obviously. I saw a picture on here with the cover removed, and it makes the design of the phone sink below sea level.
A flapless port only looks good on a phone with a metal or proper metal-color body. Like the Xperia P. But the Xperia S would look like crap without port flaps.

Yeah but that's because you are taking the flap off when it was designed with it on. Phones designed with a flush usb port and no flap look fine.
It's like saying cutting the roof off your SUV didn't look good. A convertible sports car looks ace.
I don't think the XS would look bad with no port flap. Look at the headphone socket, that's very nicely styled. If they'd done the same with USB I'd be happier.
My samsung tocco ultra had a similar style flap to the XS and lasted me 2 years just fine despite me thinking it would only last two days.
The galaxy s had a slide cover which mostly did the job but wasn't exactly pretty. The pins in micro usb are pretty fine wouldn't take much ingress to mess it up.
I think when the flap spare pieces are available online I will get one and make proper opening for USB for it and leave it there permanently.
Some smart manufacturer could make a delete with correct opening. They could have made it just like Xperia P and it would look very nice.
I was thinking about such same thing. Waiting for spare USB flap availability.
I wonder if a replacement flap could be worked into a clip on case?

Ace, works for me too. I'd been faffing something chronic til now with it but that's deffo the method.
Good to hear that other people have had previous, port-protected Sony's last a couple of years and more OK, especially with 2 year contracts almost being the norm these days. All told it's encouraging, therefore, to read that Sony seems to be some kinda master of the flaps.
Too much innuendo - fnar!
I find the flaps very sturdy so I don't mind if they are a bit of a learning experience. I pop the bottom part, then the top part and it works for me XD.
On my X10 it was easy to remove but it was pretty fragile, so I would rather have it the way it is now, then none at all .
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
i think, it's hard to say whether it is better to have those flaps or not to have them (like in the xperia arc). of course, it also depends on how often you use them.
because of wifi, usb is mostly only needed for flashing, but at least you have to oben the usb-flap once a day for charging
but at the end the phone looks better with them...
The flaps don't bother me that much, but what does bother me is how loose they become after you have opened them a few times. It makes it feel like there is a loose spot in the casing.
I just wanted to chip in here and say if you're worried about the flap, you are right to be. I left mine charging overnight and when I came to unplug it I noticed that the flap had a crack in both sides somehow - despite me being super careful with it. It's not broken - some kind of membrane within seems to be holding it together somehow - but it bends along the crack now and it's a matter of time before it snaps completely.
I don't like that flap design one bit... I thought the X10 had a bad flap design but this one is far worse, especially when you have the phone in a case. It's vulnerable when being charged, sticking out worryingly... hopefully spares will become available. I tried to glue it to reinforce it but it's not easy as the crack is only a hairline when sitting properly.
I don't like them, on mine it has become loose and doesn't latch in at the bottom properly anymore. It has also list it's matte black and is quite shiny now, as is also the 'chin' bit at the bottom under clear strip, there's a definite bit of wear under the back and home buttons. :-/ 3 months old :|

Well my cover finally cracked the other day, the little tail that stays in the phone always cracked in half. So half is still stuck in the phone and then I have the whole cover left. It won't stay on anymore so must look for a new one.
Any one seen the USB cover for sale anywhere ?
Mine has broken too, found this on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-HDMI-Cover-Button-Cap-Replacement-For-Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-S-LT26i-Black-/290718395563?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item43b02aacab#ht_1834wt_1037
Hey guys,
I wrote this in the Q&A section and I think this could be interesting for some of you..
If your bottom cover is broken or makes some stupid noises you can simply replace it.. You can buy replacement covers at ebay and also other sites, for example:
http://sparepart.dk/en/sony-sony-ericsson-1629/sony-xperia-s-100338/spare-parts-100339/
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Bu...T26i-SO-02D-/170872807890?var=#ht_4332wt_1163
http://www.handyersatzteilshop.de/a...+Cover+black+Sony+XPERIA+S+LT26i_3409642.html (german site)
To replace the bottom cover you have to follow these steps:
1. Pull the bottom cover a bit so that there is a little gap between the transparent strip and the cover.
2. Unlock the clips with your fingernails or a guiter pick.. Try to keep pulling the cover while you do this
3. Go all the way around until all the clips are unlocked.. Start at front left or right side
4. The replacement cover can be simply attached by pushing it over the naked end of the phone
See my attached pictures below
Good luck
MisterG
ps: for best results use a light guitar pick (mine was 0.60mm)
Really needed this guide. Pretty much made my bottom cap ugly when it fell and now there's a nasty bump on the edge. This should help. Though do you think the prices for the bottom cap will come down significantly? If it won't, I will be highly inclined to buy it now though it seems a bit on the costly side.
I don't know.. You're right - it's just a small piece of plastic but there's a xperia logo on it so it costs what it costs Maybe there are some non original covers but I haven't seen any yet..

Would be nice if more colours was available.
Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
I want to replace mine, but the reason isn't so bad so I can hold off until more parts become available...
How hard to you have to pull the cap to make a gap? Quite a lot of force? because that is the part that scares me the most, haha pulling apart by baby :fingers-crossed:
Don't pull too hard The cover doesn't move very much anyway.. You only have to get a small gap to put something into, like a guitar pick (or any other flexible piece of something) Without pulling I wasn't able to get my pick placed, so if you do: well done

Pull your cover off, grab a spray can in your favorite color and spray it Just joking - don't blame me if something goes wrong^^ Seriously: I don't think that there will be other colors than black and white in the future
Thanks Much needed guide for because of my clumsy girlfriend.
Thanks for the guide!
Just to be precise, there are only 2 clips on the front. The middle one looks like a guide, it's definitely not a clip
Cheers
I just received my cover from spareparts.
I had to wait 2 weeks because they didn't have stock but once they did, it took about 3 days to arrive to Canada where I live.
The cover feels and looks the same so that's a relief.
I dropped my phone and it cracked so I had to get a new one.
Cheers!
Hi does anyone know where to get a replacement part for the upper side (which involves both sides of the phone as well) I accidentally dropped it and know one corner is seriously damage PLEASE HELP!!!

You will get full housings on eBay but I guess you better take that to the service center as the display is fixed with the upper panel so repairing it by yourself could see you playing with fire with a delicate device. Sounds nasty though
What happens is that theres no Sony official center in my country so I don't know what to do is real ugly really? I think there's just really tight cause I saw a video where they show the battery and so

I could remove the cover using my nails (and they are not very long...) - no need for a guitar pick...

Yeah, I already mentioned that it's possible to use your fingernails.. Advantage of a guiter pick is that it can be left sticked in while turning the phone freely if you have to alter your hand's position

Check the links in my first post... There is also this website http://sparepart.dk/en/sony-sony-ericsson-1629/sony-xperia-s-100338/spare-parts-100339/ where you can get nearly everything..
By the way.. Maybe we can attach new colored bottom covers soon when the xperia sl is released.. This model is meant to be a refresh of our XS with some slightly changed hardware specs but the size should be equal.. So next time purple/blue or pink bottom cover?^^

can i remove the cover and put it back again?
mine just make some noise...
Nice one, just put an order in for a replacement, gonna spray it a custom colour
Thank you for this guide. I dropped my phone and the only scratch was on the bottom right corner - it was driving me crazy. I got the part quickly from sparepart.dk even though I'm in California and they ship from Denmark. Phone looks like the day I got it.

I dont know where you can get that, but I have included the complete XS repair and replacement guide which I think you may need.
I have had my Ultra Z since January. Zero problems, but this morning I removed my USB charger at work and a rubber gasket (see pic) fell out. Now the door does not close properly. I have the gasket and tried to work it back in but it would not go. There is a small tab and I cannot tell if it goes up (towards the screen) or down. I think I can get it back in with a toothpick or similar but want it to stay (and not lose it) and for it to re-seal the door properly. Not being able to close the USB door is a BIG deal to me.
I had been meaning to get a docking charger but bought some from China and they were crap. Guess I'll have to break down and get a real DK30.
The o-ring goes on the door.
Tab to back by the looks
Glue it back? What kind of glue?

Thanks Jammol. I'll try to figure this out. When I place it in the position it appears to belong in (now that I look closely I can see the small tab indention on the cap) but the part is so small I cannot even handle it with my big fat fingers, and don't really have a magnification station and stability setup to do it.
Big question is for the people who have had the cap break off, is there a source for the whole cap? Is it possible to install without taking the whole phone apart? Would it make sense to just throw it away and forget it was there?

I don't know what part of the world you are in but you can check these out. Couple folks have bought them:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Son...zer_Ersatzteile_Werkzeuge&hash=item2339fdd95e
I say just replaced the entire cap with one of those and call it good. Mine is experiencing the same thing, tearing off little by little. I think that is where water might be getting into my phone, but I'll be replacing the phone soon anyways. Just not sure what to get yet.
I have not gotten mine wet yet other than rain in my pocket but the lines are much better with the cap on than removed, and I'd worry about the edge material getting pulled off the rest of the phone. I appreciate the ebay refrence and will try to find a US version. So is there a way to remove the old cap without breaking it off internally and having the tab rattling around inside?
I ordered a couple of the caps and a magnetic charger off thEbay US, but seller was in Spain so it will be a while. Crappy design trying to get rubber to adhere to plastic.
Does anyone know how to safely remove the old one? Just yank? slip something very thin in to try to get the tab to ride over the notch?
Thanks,
Marc
Super glue is what bonds o-rings to other materials because of the greasy slippery surface. Mine has also come loose. Contact glue, industrial glue or anything else wont bite on that thing because of its chemical resistance that the o-ring has.
try to get a hold of a bottle of Loctite 401 meanwhile if you can't wait for the parts
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOCTITE-401...Instant-Adhesive-Super-Glue-20g-/121407567300
to remove the old one just pull..just a bit harder ...its kind of some bend at the end of the flap that's holding the thing in place inside the device.
Apply with a pin or paper clip I take it?

mmm something like that I dunno really.. I've yet have to figure this out myself lol. Use your imagination!
At my moms work when I was young they had superglue bottles from loctite with really tiny metal pipes attached on them I wonder what loctite model that is. They could be used to do any precision work!
So it's possible to get the new one in properly once I get the old one out? From this picture it appears the new tab should slide in but I'm worried if you have to tug hard to get the old one out.

gutted!
I am so gutted i didn't see this thread before I sent my phone to Sony for warranty repair.
My gasket didn't fall off, it started to come unstuck so was hanging off and when closing the lid the gasket would unroll and the lid would open.
I sent it to Sony as I think this is there fault. The gasket should stay attached for the duration of the warranty.
They want to charge me £55 for repair, handling and shipping!! I have had my claim escalated and now they say 'upon further inspection the device is bent'!! They are willing to send it back free of charge should I not want to have it repaired...... But should I now expect the device they send back to me to bent when I know full well it was in near perfect condition when I sent to them?!?!
The bottom line is follow instructions from this thread. DO NOT send your phone to Sony.
Sony use 'authorised repair centres' so they don't even know what is going on with your device and the trust you put in Sony to give your device to a respected engineer is misplaced.
My rear glass is starting to separate from the frame in the top right corner.
Has anyone even heard of this problem on this phone?
Talked to Xperia Care today and it's covered under warranty but it's going to be a 14 working day turn around!
They are based in Texas, but since my phone originated from Hong Kong then it may take longer if parts differ.
It's not noticeable in the picture too bad but it's definitely coming apart because I feel the edge of the glass on my hand. Also it goes back in if I push it in but comes out eventually in a short amount of time...

its a known issue, its quite common actualy, i think if you look around some threads you will see alot of posts from unique users
edit- this should be covered by warrenty, Sony Customer Service Japan can conferm for this and same goes with Sony C-Service UK and also USA
I actually have the same problem on my Z2 , i previously owned the Xperia Z where i was experiencing same issue, and yes is covered under warranty....glass becomes unglued and separating from frame because NFC pins pushing the glass out, and phone generating heat during usage and this way the adhesive sticker inside becomes melt and glass starts to go out...this is a known issue even Sony knows about. I was able to hold 5 different Z2s and every one had the same issue, same area, different batch numbers.
The fifth one was yesterday in Orange ( operator) i dont know how to cerrectly call this showpiece? I mean the place where you can grap the phone and play with it... I noticed this problem on this phone....
I was analyzing this problem and i found that first area where it starts to come off is where the big flap is, thats the place where NFC pins are, and it continue to ungluing to the corner exactly like it is on your photo....Come on Sony!! Z1 was proof from this becasue of the middle frame and, this way nothing is pushing the glass out and also adhesive sticker is more wider.... I know what i am talking about i am gsm mechanic i was assembling both devices. But i dont know if you guys understand my English

You are pretty much right about that. My Z2 seems to have this problem in this particular area, I did not return the unit because I assume this eventually happens to all Z2.
Same thing I suffered with my old Z, I still don't understand why Sony does not come up with a better solution than gluing everything together.
I saw xperia z3 leaded pictures and from what seen i can say that z3 got fixed this issue because of different placement of NFC pins they paced them almost in the middle of the motherboard (same as z1) logically its a way better placement in the middle because its more dificult for those pins to lift both sides and top of the glass together at the same time than only right side in z / z2... Btw tomorrow i am going to repair another z2 customer reported this issue...
If you want you can go for warranty repair but if you are heavy gamer like me or doing something that heating up the device expect the same thing to happen in less than month.... The adhesive on the glass is really strong but after you heat up the glass, its not so strong then.... Its better to put locktide power flex(super glue) together with adhesive sticker and glue it this way..yeah then its almost impossible to get the glass off as the locktide is less, almost not sensitive to heat. I repaired mine z2 this way, like i sad i am gamer my phone is hot everyday and everithing is okayy

Well I run 3 or 4 times per week and I use Nike+ so the phone gets pretty hot, and since I really don't have the skills to open my phone and glued again I will just ignore this issue (Hopefully is a minor issue) and I'm going to hope Sony has all this fixed by the time Z4 is released.

I had my phone mostly in Sony's charge dock for the last couple of months, using it as a wifi hotspot. When I took it out the other day, I thought the back seemed to bulge a bit. I only had it for ~6 months or so, and I remember thinking that the battery couldn't have gone bad already - since its known that bad batteries start to bulge...
Anyway, took it out of the charger again today to leave the house with it and found that the rear "glass" has separated from the frame by a lot and there's a 3mm gap to the frame on one side.
1) the back seems more flexible than glass would normally be? I think its not actually glass... (I know they build different models for different regions - this was purchased in Hong Kong)
2) if I push the edges of the back to the frame and hold a ruler to the back in either direction, there's a clear bulge forcing the back away from the phone.
3) what besides the battery in a phone can expand to the extent that it will push the rear panel off the phone?
The phone has never been dropped, its in absolutely new condition, aside from this annoying failure to stay together...

UK Warranty Refusing Repair
Hey Guys,
I am having the same issue with my Z2, it's about 8 months old. I sent it off last week and this week I was quoted £350 for a BRAND NEW DEVICE!
I phoned them and asked why and they said that they have deemed it to be accidental damage! They are escalating it currently but I fail to see how it COULD be accidental damage?! I have never dropped the phone or anything...
Can someone on here please confirm that their device was repaired under warranty? If so did you get a receipt/ invoice or anything with it? I would very much appreciate any help with getting Sony to fix my damn phone...

Almost same problem
I just got this Z2 since around 2 months, and just spotted that the rear glass is popping out of the frame. The device international and not under warranty, so will try to get back to Amazon. Any insights?

My friend had also such a problem. He decided to open the device by himself and then it cracked so go for warranty.
