I wanna know what everyone is thinking about this update that should be rolling out anytime from now to the end of 2013, any information to share? Do you think LG will clean up their UI with this update? Perhaps they will include the "Hide front touch buttons" feature that appeared on the Korean version? Share what you think/know!
I say late December.
I hope we get it soon but now that I don't have stock android it doesn't mean as much anymore since it will be skinned

Im honestly a fan of LG's UI it has some very useful features unlike touchwiz haha so to see improvements to it expesially the nav bar hide would be an amazing feature to have only thing is i have the VS980 and we all know how verizon is with updates... *COUGH COUGH note 2 COUGH COUGH* i hope this isnt the case for the LG G2 but i guess time can only tell... also i just saw an article here

Honestly after seeing KitKat I really was not that impressed. It was over hyped that everyone expected some major overhaul. I can't think of one feature that completely blew my mind.
the LG UI at 4.2.2 has more useful features than KitKat.

I went from a nexus 4 with paranoid android to a nexus 5 with a stock rom and kept missing the extra features from the PA rom! I'd say there's nothing in KitKat that I can't live without (hence why I now have a g2!)

I do not expect LG to abandon anything in the UI so this may take longer to update. And as stated Verizon will still red to revise it for some of us and that all add another 2 to 3 months. While I hope I am dead wrong, I wouldn't look for a Verizon update until the spring, unless there are issues with their current phones

wonder if kitkat is truly less memory utilizing, as well as apps running on it.
was expecting indeed a bigger overhaul of code towards a separation between hardware and the OS on functional level and to bring ios performance lol

What I'm curious about is how, little features like the dialer with the search integration or even messaging will be affected since the messenger is now proprietary within hangouts (I like using it as sms much better than the stock LG messenger).

The stock messaging app doesn't have the group MMS option, maybe they will incorporate it in 4.4 as I had it on my HTC One 4.1.2 and the S4.

I don't know if you are paying attention to the development forum but they have clockwork tethered n on the device and they are actively working on an unlock n r very close.
Development is not everything !
NEVER buy a phone for what it 'might' do in the future. Buy it for what it can do now.
If custom roms are important to you, don't get this phone right now. Get an S3 or One X.
If a really good oem experience is OK for you, and root is good enough, then look no further! I think this is an awesome phone.
But until proven otherwise, assume that the bootloader will never be unlocked. It might be, but if that is critical to you, then you should be buying a phone that can do that today.
Each to their own.

Why buy those when the N4 is for sale as I type this note. You will not only get the custom ROM's but the quickest update to the latest releases of Andriod.

If only N4 had LTE, then I would jump right on that. In the meantime I'm looking forward to getting my OG, and keeping my fingers crossed for the devs to work their magic. Anyone else feel the same?

This phone is an animal. And even now, the test units for the N4 have been updated with the build that will be on the shipped units and in benchmarks and real world testing it doesn't hold a candle to this phone. That of course poses a couple of questions like why is vanilla android not as fast or faster than the build on the optimus g if the hardware is so similar? And why buy the n4 for faster access to updates if those updates don't bring it up to the same performance level as the Optimus G?
Wireless charging is the only feature I wish we had and hey, I can live without that. So IMO this phone is superior and will be even more so if/when the developers here work there magic and get passes the locked bootloader. So I would suggest sticking around.

While I agree that LTE and expandable storage are important, if lack of sufficient progress towards boot loader unlock, in 5 days, would drive you to return the device, for one that will get customer ROMs, getting an S3 which from what I read is about to lose it's dev support due to Samsung policies (devs are tired of doing inefficient, cumbersome work arounds that shouldn't be necessary) isn't a good option, even if you got LTE everywhere you went and could expand storage to 2 TB. The One x has it's drawbacks too.
Even stock unrooted, this thing is a monster in terms of what I'm seeing it do. I may still trade it in for the One X+ at the end of this week, but if I don't I certainly can't find fault with it yet. If I can survive a Droid Bionic with utter lack of Dev support (for good reasons, obviously), the LG OG will be a snap!

The other thing you aren't understanding is the Tegra 3 only supports single channel memory, so that one gig is much slower than our 2gb of dual channel memory.

There are rumors circling about a GE of the G2 that packs 3gb of ram and will likely launch with 4.4 around Dec. What are your thoughts on this rumor? Personally I hope that it is true as it would be awesome to have a phone with the G2's specs running stock android.
Original story:http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2013/10/11/lg-g2-google-edition-rumour-suggests-more-power/
It would be a good thing because I think that it will be relatively easy to flash the Google Edition ROMs on existing handsets (like it is the case with the Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Editons).
But I don't buy the 3GB of RAM rumor...Kit Kat should reduce the memory footprint with the new Linux kernel, the 3GB should not be needed for some time, like 3 years from now. Heck, you can run Windows 8.1 on 2GB RAM (and even on 1GB) with no hiccups whatsoever...why would so much RAM be needed for a handset

No way in hell they will up the specs. If they do that would be a **** move towards the ALREADY LG G2 Owners like me and allot of other people.
Mark my words if they do I wont buy another smartphone from them again unless its a Google Edition when/if they do. Hate to be a downer, but I think that isn't sending a positive message out to their brand enthusiast crowd base. I expect the same phone to be released along side with the new nexus because they virtually have the same internals I'm guessing. That makes more sense, Imagine... the waterfall of ROMs we can flash.... I'm addicted
Not sure they would, a G2 with Play OS could dig into Nexus 5 sales, and vice versa. I don't see LG wanting to dig into their own sales like that.

It does if your selling a lower spec phone for 299- 399 as opposed to 599-699 for a higher spec phone. Its why we have lower end phone and high end phones. Lg has already made its money from the nexus. Wouldn't surprise me if Google is losing money to sell these phones for so cheap. And lg makes profit because Google has to buy them as they are the only retailer.

Depends on your usage. I use my G2 because the battery life is better, and the screen is the perfect size for me. I like my MotoX for the stock android + moto added features, and it's the most comfortable phone I've ever used.

yes switch...because u already thinking about it, if you thinking about it then this phone is not for u
I wouldnt switch. 3000mah is important to me, I can run google experience launche with the "ok google" feature all day long and my battery get down to 15% every night which is awesome. I dont install anything or disable anything to preserve battery life, I like to use my smart phone as a smart phone not as a battery bencher.
LOL why in the hell would u wanna switch ? unless you need money dont do it its a dumb question
This was something I was thinking about as well. IMO, the main reasons to choose the Moto X over the G2 is for its always on voice activation and its active notifications. If those two features outweigh having a better screen, better camera, and overall better hardware, then you should get the Moto X. Official Kit Kat is nice, but you can get that through a custom ROM or just by installing the Google Experience Launcher. I had 4.4 on my Galaxy Nexus and GEL feels the same, except with LG's notification bar and knock knock, and smoother because of the better hardware. Maybe it's because I haven't experienced the always on voice activation and the active notifications, but those two features aren't enough for me to switch.

You know that our processor has the capability of an "always on" voice recognition feature, right? Not saying it is going to be put in there on the kit kat upgrade, but I'm saying that it is a possibility, albeit a small one. I know, Hexagon DSP. Unfortunately it's only available to OEMs right now. Emailed the dev for Open Mic+ and Qualcomm hasn't opened to independent devs just yet. It would be nice if they did include it with Kit Kat, but I'm not holding my breath. The apps are there to give us the same functionality as the Moto X, but the battery drain isn't worth it to me.
I traded my motox for a G2 and never liked back. The motox is really nice and the overall user experience is great but it's tiny. Yes the screen size is the same as the n4 but it's only 6mm bigger than the iPhone 5s. Just keep that in mind and that u will also lose features like the IR Blaster.

I had a G2 for 2 months, and just switched to a Moto X Developer Edition. I missed unskinned Android, and the overblown interface on the G2 was just too much. The Moto X seems smoother, and the user experience, with Active Display and Touchless Controls, is far better for my needs.

Hey guys, can anyone comment or give me there honest opinion which way I should go. I am on my 6th Nexus 5 replacement (RMA) and I'm getting tired of it. Have not been able to enjoy my device BUT have now been offered a refund. I have been looking at other options is live to get the Moto X but this is only available at a extremely high premium that I cannot justify to pay in Australia. My next best option is the LG G2. Can I get some honest feedback please, is it a worthy upgrade from the Nexus 5 or should I look at other options. I've heard that the G2 hasn't got the best UI, will this change with the upgrade to KitKat 4.4?
Any opinions would be helpful in making my decision.

I can't believe how butthurt people get over a simple discussion comparing Android devices. I used to find it strange that you couldn't make a thread comparing phones, but now I kinda get it.
Keep N5 if you absolutely want an active xda community and if you want an AOSP experience
Go for G2 if you want better battery, camera and sound
It's currently on 4.2.2, 4.4 on its way. Entirely possible to theme it to not look like a Serbian diskotek, but unfortunately the AOSP ports are pretty bad. Everything works but the camera and audio drivers are substandard and the kernel isn't optimized for this device.

Screen is also better, hardware side nexus 5 is worser than g2 in almost everything.

Nah that's just an opinion. Nexus colours are more true to real life.
Oh yeah and the battery is obsviously better on the G2 but who cares because the N5 has Franco kernel.
Bottom line it all comes down to personal preference and price.

Didn't we get the hint yet? Just wondering. It's personal preference op. I have the n5 and love it. I've also played with the g2. As far as the screen being alot better I don't see it.

I have the G2 mainly because the N5 isn't on Verizon and my work provides me the phone. The G2 is the closest thing to the N5 I could get. The only thing I worry about is long term support by the community for future roms and what not. Right now the G2 has root, custom recoveries and a nice selection of custom roms but how long will dev support last going forward.
Pretty dumb that comparison threads aren't allowed

Ive found that the 4.4.2 camera update equals if not bests the G2. (I have both, but keeping my Nexus 5 due to the fact that there are no clean, simple CIQ free ROM developers anymore)

BTW not singling you out, just answering your question Sir.
Merry Christmas!
First of all, I'd like to thank everyone in this forum for creating and supporting development of the G2. LG may not support this phone anymore, but this forum holds strong. That said I am investigating potential upgrades for the G2. I would like suggestions. The following phones will not work:
- Phones that don't support Verizon
- Phones without strong developer communities
- Phones released more than a year ago
Thanks everyone!

Your biggest issue will be the Developer support on a Verizon device. Verizon devices tend to see ALOT less development then GSM based devices. If you liked the G2 then why not get the G3 or G4?

Thanks for the reply. The G3 is too old and the G4 is too big.

With the state of hardware right now any device released within the past 3 years is still a good device. They will handle anything a new device will. Could look at the moto droid, Not really sure what else verizon has to offer really as there is no Verizon in the State I live in.
Even if LG had dropped support before releasing lollipop, the G2 could still handle 99.7% of everything you throw at it smoothly.
Compare the G2 to new devices. You have 1080P which looks great and doesnt drain the battery. 3000mAh battery, more or same as latest devices. Compare snapdragon 800 to 808/810 and you will only see a good difference in benchmarks. 5.2" screen thats neither too big nor small.
LG did great on the G2, if not too great since upgrades to this day still dont appeal.
Enjoy your G2 and buy something else

Yeah but we are not outside xda are we? Lol
OEM updates are not reliable. The OEM could push an update to the carrier but the carrier never release the update to users. This happens more then people know. Verizon and att are well known for doing this.

How about a Nexus 6? That's my dream phone, lol. Plenty of development, 1st to receive updates, rootable, and runs on Verizon.

Too big. If we get a Nexus 5 2015 that'll be perfect

My only other thought for something fast and not all that big would be the Droid Turbo. Not sure how locked up it is however. When I use to have the old razr we would use safestrap, but never had a true unlocked bootloader....
