Hi, my camera app (or any camera app for that matter) won't show what I'm shooting at but instead a blank screen. I can take a picture and it still works but it's a little hard to know what I'm shooting at. I tried instagram and tumblr and had the same problem. I've tried installing a camera rom from xda forums VR Stock AOSP Camera Build6 with no luck. I'm at a loss as to what to do here because I use my camera frequently and have run out of ideas. Someone please help me. My phone is an AT&T Samsung Galaxy SII which is rooted, if that helps. Thanks in advance. I noticed earlier that when I give up and press the back key for just a second I can see a blurry picture instead of the blank screen. What could be causing this. I'm running Siyah 3.4.2 on an i777.

Siyah 3.4.2. is old and outdated, so if you're running a newer rom with it you'll have trouble like this. Before anyone can properly help you, what rom are you trying to run with 3.4.2?
ROM
Well I was running carbon at first but was disappointed with it so I went back to the factory ROM. I'm doing some research now to try and pick a new ROM to go with. I reflashed my phone with Odin and am now running Android version 4.0.4 Kernel version 3.0.35-Siyah0v3.4.2. Should I be choosing a different kernel? Update I'm now using Android version 4.0.4 and Kernel version 3.0.15-0-Siyah-s2-v4.1.5+
Problem Solved
Flashed a new kernel to upgrade to 4.1.2

Ive noticed this since I upgraded to gingerbread.. phone is now very slow..
when I play music, it plays as something is taking up all the processing power in the background and the music plays as it is buffering, loading and playing..
the games that I download run so slowly that it feels like playing modern games on Pentium 3.
when I press the home button, all programs minimize but the icons on home screen load up one by one.. they are empty boxes and appear one by one.
anyone else have any experience like this?
any help or advice would be appreciated.
I am on stock gingerbread, i do not have any mod roms installed.. My phone has been rooted.
android version - 2.3.3
baseband version 2.1.71
-old question was closed without giving any reason, maybe it was in the wrong section... so trying again
Have you tried restarting?
Perhaps you have too many applications installed on the phone's memory, you should try moving it to the SD card in Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
Hope this is of some help.
I'd suggest rooting and installing a custom rom, it'll fix all of your issues.
I'd suggest TEAM ROM because I'm using it, and it's awesome.
And yes, the last question was in the wrong section.
hi, thanks for the reply.
I am also thinking of reflashing and installing a custom rom, but what always prevented me from doing so were the limitations of it, as every rom had some problem, some did not have working wifi, some did not have working camera.. and so on..
but I was following teh MIUI Rom and that looks promising, I noticed that the xperia x10 is not yet supported: http://miuiandroid.com/roms/miui-development-roms/
but also found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307044
will this custom MIUI Rom work? should I go through with it? (it also mentioned as wifi not working and third party app must be installed to fix it)
Thanks

I'm very happy with Oodie's ROM (MIUI): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295089
Great battery life and very responsive. No lags, everything working. Don't be fooled if the thread seems unactive, it's because everything is working...

thanks for your offer.. i think ill send you a PM as im confused on the first step of unlocking my bootloader =/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254087

Hello
I installed the KANG ROM found in the following thread [ROM][KANG]CM9 ICS 10.1 WiFi Preview 02/08/12 and the boot screen seems to refresh/scroll endlessly. Once the lock screen comes up (which scrolls endlessly as well), if I press the power button to turn screen off and then switch it back on, the display is stable.
I use the Korean Version SHW-M380W (Galaxy Tabl 10.1 Wifi 32GB). I tried Galaxy Task Slim 13.1 and other ICS Roms found on XDA, but the result is same.
Can someone please let me know a fix for this?
Thank you so much.

Doesn't anyone else face this issue?
I don't think it supports the korean tab
Hmm I saw that if I restore /boot from stock image backup in HC 3.2 this issue was solved. Tried and tested it and worked fine. But when I upgrade to ICS, there is no /boot to restore from. Just tried it with the Hc 3.2 /boot and the system hanged.
Probably different ramdisks as ics kang is based of devices they own and custom via the model as the Korean tab is not part of it you may need to request or hope someone donates one to them, and if it was the official update of ics it would work but these are custom made builds based off the source ics package given by Google so it isn't an official update like HC3. 2

Thank you for your reply.
have you tried romans?
Romans
You mean the AOKP one right? Yeah, I have tried it, but the same issue
I mean, the one from here: http://forum.aokp.co/page/releases
Build 28 to be specific. Strangely, the same (screen jumping) issue was there with CWM as well. And pershoot was kind enough to make a new CWM just for Korean tab. I wonder what changed though (Am quite a newbie to rooting and stuff, so dont really know where to go to)
The pershoots CWM which fixed a screen jumping issue for CWM (not for boot screen though) is found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360588
Thanks bro.
So its all fixed?
Oops, I missed the whole point Actually, I had tried that after the [ROM][KANG]CM9 ICS 10.1 WiFi Preview 02/08/12 version, but the issue persisted. Its only with the bootscreen that this issue exists. Once we go to the lock screen, the issues still exists, but a screen off -> screen on (using the power key) quickly restores the screen back to the non-fluctuating version.
Wait, why havent you used kang by Roman? Its already coming to 4.0.4
Build 29
Thanks Misledz: I tried out Build 29 located in the following page:
http://forum.aokp.co/page/releases
Still the problem persists
I think you need a clean wipe, like generally wipe everything off it, a factory reset and stock firmware flash, then see if it persists.
Only this solution worked for me on EU version:

Tried that but still no luck

I guess I have the same recovery. The issue is not with the scrolling recovery, but with the scrolling lock screen. Did it get fixed for you as well? Am using AOKP build 30.
Thank You!!!!

Thank you so very much!! The issue which was bothering me for the last three months is now solved. Life saver..
When the "official" ICS for the galaxy tab was released, I was pleased to know that now I would have the cameras working again, I use my tablet for skype, so that where good news. But immediately after installing the official release, I started to miss CyanogenMod. Can you tell me if someone is working in CM9 with working cameras.
List of things so far:
-No Power Button Menu (when I press the power button the tab immediately turns off)
-No 3G
-No system tray auto hide options
-No Lockscreen
-Settings menu oversimplified
Any help solving any this problems would help a lot.
Forget the release date please help me with the following:
-Power Button Menu (Recover, Reboot, Profile, etc)
-System tray auto hide
-Lockscreen
Please!!!
I'm not sure what you mean by power button and lockscreen. Power button has airplane mode and reboot enabled in official ics. And lockscreen works also.

All I can say is check the threads for the SGT they are always busy trying to fix things also you can always go to there website. If all fails and and you really need the camera I suggest don't flash anything until its fixed cause flashing a rom knowing that the camera does not work then asking for a fix will only irritate the devs...

I think that the release is near now that Samsung has released de source code, pershoot is working in get a CM9 fully working, and the base CM9 is already stable. I hope to see a CM9 stable in the next weeks (maybe days? :fingers-crossed: )
Looking forward to a stable CM9 release on our Tabs. I'm not that big a fan of the stock TouchWiz ICS, but since it has a working camera, it'll do for now.
Well now that the real ics stock rom is out I'm sure they can move toward...

I found this threat today, but didn't solve any of the problems, can someone try it and say if this works.
Original poster: There is definitley something wrong with your tab. If you have flashed the correct CM build for your tab all those things should be working. If I were you I would flash to stock ICS with Odin using the correct firmware for your region from www.sammobile.com This will put you on the ICS bootloader, it will also wipe your sd partition but its the best way to start fresh. Then flash the appropriate CM build for your model from pershoots blog http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm9/ the one dated 09/01 is the most recent and is built from the 3.1 kernel source so both cameras are working. Be sure to use the supplied CWM recovery and perform all necessary wipes i.e Cache, dalvnik cache, factory reset.
To all others: Pershoot is working on getting CM9 to RC status before work begins on CM10. He does great work so be patient.
Hi guys! I'm new to all of this.
I rooted my Galaxy S2 on a whim with the dorimax kernel.
Now I have the following trouble: There is a noticable lag between pressing the home button and closing the app/returning to the home screen.
This effect started happening after I installed the offical JB update from my provider the dorimanx kernel made it a lot more noticable(ICS was way faster in that regard... which puzzles me quite a bit)
What do I have to do to reduce this problem? Change something in the settings or install a non-stock ROM?
----------
Also three other questions out of curiousity:
Can I use the dorimax kernel with the neatrom?(as the need rom comes with another kernel, I would have to flash the dorimanx kernel on top of it after installing everything?)
If I made a nandroid backup before installing Neatrom: would I be able to return everything to how it was(stock SAMSUNG Rom with dorimanx kernel;by simply selecting my backup under the restore option in CWM) before installing neatrom in case I dont like it?
What is better: The CM that is based on JB 4.1 or NeatRom? Is the CM version based on 4.2 usable, or do they still have some annoying problems? <----I guess there is still no stable build for 4.2 under CM?
Thank you very much guys.
If I get positiv comments I'm gonna flash neatrom first thing tomorrow morning. I allready have nandroid backup and saved a lot of my favorite apps with TB.
Another QuestioN: Would I be able to install the Samsung Stock email app from a TB-Save on another rom?<-- I know that you shouldn't do this with system apps(I dont want to reenter the server adresses for my email account in an other app)

I'm Sure someone else will know different but for me the lag was always there and I never heard of a way to reduce it, I've been using an s3 mini today running 4.1 and there is considerable lag between pressing the button and returning to the home screen so it could be a fault in Samsung JB rom's. Try neatrom, as I understand it's blazingly fast and a considerable improvement over stock.
I've been running cm10.1 for a while and it still has some big bugs (hardware composer etc) that will probably never be sorted due to Samsung's unwillingness to release their sources, and the FM radio does not work. However everything I use works the odd game doesn't (real racing 3) due to I believe the Mali drivers but other than that everything else is running ok. Recent updates have made it very fast and for me it's faster than any "stock" based rom.
Yes you can use dori kernel with neatrom and cm10.1 as well, although you will need the 9.xx kernel.
You can use the stock email app on neatrom and any other stock based rom but not on Cyanogenmmod or any other AOSP based rom.
Yea backup in CWM and you can restore it if you don't like Neatrom.
Hope some of this helps
Hi,
i have tried changing from a couple of roms and i am just unable to connect to the front camera. I do not know what is wrong! can someone please hlp me?
try going back to stock rom. camera still not working? than it is probably a hardware issue .take it to a service center
Try flashing the ROM again after wiping caches. Faced this problem today for the first time with Omega. If that doesnt help try to flash some other ROM.
E: Sorry, read wrong the OP

See your identical same post
Is this a common issue
From the experiences on installing custom roms (AOSP based) such as CM 10.1(snapshot release) and AOKP(milestone). Camera crashing was the common and irritating bug ever had. In CM 10.1 it was slightly less, but in AOKP Camera freezes like 1 time interval (1st time not responding and 2nd time it's working).
I've read in most of the AOSP based roms for S3 (I9300), this is a common since the firmware itself is locked. Is there any glitch free AOSP based roms with good rom controls and customizable options available for S3? I'm really looking forward for Paraniod Android and RootBox, fingers crossed
Also does flashing kernal will do any good? (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42766353&postcount=4)
I'm sorry if this post intended to against the thread topic.
