[Guide] Making SView Work With A QI Receiver - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

Good evening note 3 owners,
If you are frustrated like me that samsung didnt produce an sview cover with qi receiver in your country or you find it too expensive have no fear, the solution is here
Steps:
1. Trim the copper + side of the qi receiver with a wire cutter like the one shown in the picture to reduce the bulge of stacking 2 copper connectors for the sview and the qi receiver together
Note that the top 2 pins are for qi receiver and the buttom 2 connectors are for the sview cover and the middle pin is shared between the qi receiver + pin and sview pin
2. Add a copper wire and stick it to the plus signed copper and expose it to the backside of the qi receiver
3. Add another copper wire on the lower pin of the sview cover for the pin to reach the note 3 board pin
4. Firmly close the cover place it on the qi charger, close the sview cover and voila
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app

Still getting 640mah which is similar to the original qi receiver
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app

You can remove the back sticker of the qi receiver to reduce the bulge on the sview cover

Yeah... I just can't go all McGuyver for a case. Samsung will release the Qi enabled S - View covers soon enough. I finally was able to order (and recv'd today) my Samsung wireless charging cover. I had heard they were having some QA issues and that's why it took so long.

Yeah. The label on my Samsung Wireless charging cover states a 5V / 650 mA output. Any higher and I suppose it would be too hot.
sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (AT&T)

Actually the other reason why I tried to make this is that I already got the sview cover and I dont want to invest in another sview cover which is 1.5x the price for the qi feature

NFC is functional but it is a bit weak now, some cards didn't get recognized as before. Sbeam is working properly with no issues

Wireless Charging for Note 3?

Hey guys,
I am new to wireless charging and one of my colleague talks highly positive of the concept. Specially when at night, how easy it is to pick up the phone from the charging pad, surf for a while and put it back without the hassle of looking for the wire and plugging into the ports.
I have a note 3.. and planning to go for a sgp neo hybrid case.. will i be able to make use of the charging pad along with the neo hybrid case. I do understand that a custom case cover is needed for using the wireless charging kit.. which is provided by samsung for S4. but i think they still havent come up for N3.
Anyhow i've seen on various youtube videos that many a times third party cases also work with wirelss charging without the mod/hack. Anyone tried neo hybrid for n3 with their charging pads?
I have tested this with 3 different cases except the Spigen because I haven't received it yet but I don't think that this case will be the exception

Thanks for your reply, but what was the outcome? were u able to charge with the third party cases? Are the charging times same.. slower or faster.
With Samsung charging kit that includes the back cover and the pad, they claim that the charging is faster than conventional charging cos it charges at 600MAh's.
M8 QI has sensor at least my pad has so if it beeps and light goes green in pad no matter if I have the phone naked or in a case it charges with 640ma this charge my phone in 4 to 5 hours which occurs every night and I am fine. Imagine that I had put a plastic cap in bottom of phone to have the usb3 plug clean from dust.

Jerry thanks for your response and your the discount code. i will start reading the pros and cons of the charger.
Can you try to upload some pictures etc.. i like the 45 degree slant.. its like a dock.. that charges wirelessly.. instead of placing on a pad. Good stuff.
Pls try to put some reviews. If you can today i will place the order tonight.
The 45 degree needs inside the back cover I think 4 metal things and the base has magnets and that's how it stands. I have this http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=360732881624&globalID=EBAY-AU and is working fine, I had post a video also in the 1st wireless thread here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LaQQnc2dmU&feature=youtube_gdata_player that I demonstrate it

That's just your standard Qi charging pad. Won't work with your N3 unless you have the 'official' Samsung charging back plate, or you modify a receiver between your stock back plate, and battery.
In my experience,
With the samsung charging back plate, none of the standard N3 cases will fit on the phone anymore. It's because the back plate is thicker than the stock one.
With a receiver installed between the stock back plate and battery, it will bulge out. I don't like that either.

Another thing, the charger is a 1Amp charger, i believe for the N3 you need atleast 2Amp.

I am not sure if the N3 and S4 use the same charging technology, cos in this video below the guy is charging a S4 on the TYLT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5g2rVraB1g
The thing i like about tylt is that it has three coils for charging unlike one for others, where u dont have to find the sweet spot... and lay your phone to pickup the right spot for charging.. demo on this video

What I was trying to clarify, that even if you bought that charging stand, you'll need the wireless receiver on the phone itself.
That didn't seem clear to everyone on this thread.

That's only if you have the official Samsung charging back installed.
See this link;

The Note 3 does not support wireless charging unless you buy that back, or a receiver that goes between the battery and stock back plate.

Thanks for all the links.
I guess i understand about the receiver now. Just read the whole wireless charging thread on this section.
This is totally new to me, hence the confusion... the back cover you mentioned.. does it add bulk to the phone.. as in thickness?
Is there a way a single coil or some chip can be added to the current phone cover. I have verizon model.

Yes, the samsung wireless charging cover is thicker. Will add 2mm, therefore, all your cases won't fit. Including the Neo Hybrid.
You can get receiver that goes between the battery and cover, but from my experience, it makes the rear cover bulge a bit.

1) Samsung has a wireless charging back (wireless receiver built-in) that replaces the battery cover/back already on the phone.
It makes the phone too thick for a case (a bumper might work).
2) They also make a S-view flip cover that replaces the stock back and has the wireless receiver built-in, no additional case needed.
3) Aftermarket Qi receivers can be purchased on Amazon and eBay that are placed inside the stock back cover, and if they don't cause a significant bulge in the back you can use a normal case, but one with a TPU or silicone back is most likely to work.
4) If you have a Qi receiver from a Note 2 (or similar) you can modify it to work inside the stock back cover.
ALL of those methods will require a Qi transmitter, or charging pad.
At least one seller on Amazon is offering a kit with both the Qi insert & charging pad, about $30 when I last looked.

Adding the official samsung back cover with 2mm is not a big issue, but i dont wan to loose the phone protection without a neo hybrid.

I was looking at the video again, it doesnt look like attaching the receiver on your original cover has added any bulk or thickness right? Do you think it will fit the neo hybrid case.
Amazon has these receivers for 10 bucks or so.. i was planning to get one of these receivers and then get the TYLT pad for charging.. I was reading reviews accross various forums, and people are having high opinions about TYLT's features.

The cheap one may have been from eBay, or it's gone up.
Best price I see for a kit now is $48, http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Wire..._1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1382047175&sr=1-3
There is a $10 qi insert:
http://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Stan...1382048041&sr=1-19&keywords=note+3+qi+charger
plus a $20 charging pad:
http://www.amazon.com/DigiYes®-Stan...1382048041&sr=1-23&keywords=note+3+qi+charger
By the way, I ordered an insert from that seller, it said "in stock" but the expected delivery time was 24 to 43 days once I got the order in. It does seem like you should know that before ordering.

Wireless Charging Question...

I have the Samsung OEM Wireless charging pad and a QI receiver pad set up...
With my S3, I was able to charge through an Otterbox case. With the Note 3 and a UAG case, it isn't able to charge without connecting/disconnecting. Is this an issue with the receiver or would a new charging pad make a difference? I was already looking at the LuguLake...
Thanks for any suggestions!

Try to take out some adhesives from the qi receiver in specific the ones that facing the backplate and try again. I don't have the original pad but 2 cheapo eBay ones and 3 receivers and all combinations work fine with any case including Spigen or a leather fat portfolio that I have.

maybe the charging current is not enough for note 3 if you have installed them at right position.
i think that the charging current of note 3 need to be bigger than s 3.
Can someone else comment on this? I'd like to snatch up the Samsung wireless charging kit, but I use a Spigen case. Has anyone had any luck using the official charging kit with an aftermarket case? Thanks.
Have you tried it without the UAG case?

Samsung Flip Case with Wireless Charging [HACK]

I have the Offical Samsung Flip Case (like the S-View without the window), and also a wireless charger, but the flip case has no charging receiver.
I bought this ultrathin wireless receiver from Amazon -- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Expower-Ultra-thin-Standard-Wireless-Receiver/dp/B00FWMN69I/
But now the receiver covers the contacts used by the flip case to tell the phone when case is closed so it sleeps, and to awake when the case is open.
The PCB is so thin I could easily poke a hole through with a needle, which meant I could also put a small wire through to allow outside contact so the flip-case can connect to the phone.
First I poked 2 holes just underneath the connectors of the GND and P3.
Then I placed some double-sided sticky tape over the area
And pushed some thin wire through the holes so they went through into the phone to make contact inside. I used a strand of solid CAT5 as it was what I had lieing around.
I then pushed the wire flat onto the tape and trimmed them both so they couldn't short each other
Then some aluminium foil accross the contact area. I first tried without the foil but I found it was a bit hit and miss whether the case made contact with the wire. With the foil it works every time.
Now I have a flip-case with wireless charging!

Frist off, the official charging case is very thick compaired to the regular one. Second the wireless charging cases are hard to come by. Third this is XDA, is all about customization, hacking, and development. If you don't like it, don't go to that thread. Last of all, just by your use of the word "janky" I can tell you are an idiot. Please go flame some where else.

Doesn't this add a irregular hump on the back at the wireless ports? The Original samsung S-view case has two wireless pillars sticking out to fit in the wireless ports. You covered the ports with two wires, how is it not adding a little hump on the back?

Not that I can notice. It does make it more difficult to close the case but once closed I don't see any hump and still feels flat when laid on a surface.
Also the flip cases "pillars" are very thin compared to the ones on the official wireless charging cover.
You could always hammer the wire flat prior to inserting if you wanted.

I feel really stupid not being able to track down a definitive answer but, I have the Verizon Note 3 and the OEM "Samsung Galaxy Note 3 S-View Flip Cover"... does this thing have wireless charging built-in? I see that there are contacts on the cover inside the back and the Note 3 itself has the contacts exposed, so it doesn't look at all like the pictures in OP.

Samsung offers 2 different S-View covers. One has Qi charging built-in, while the other one does not. The Qi S-View cover is not easy to find at the present time, while the standard S-View cover is readily available. Where did you purchase your S-View cover? The package will tell you which cover it is.
If you didn't personally purchase the cover or don't have the packaging that it came in, then post a pic showing the pins/contacts on the inside of the S-View cover you have. We should be able to tell you which one you have, and if it has Qi capabilities or not.

Thank you. I've definitely been looking for this info. I'm just a bit confused as to what you are contacting on the underside. You can't see that part. There are 3 little holes on the left side of the battery. Does your wire contact just the bottom one? Or does it act as a jumper and contact the middle one and the bottom one? I'm using a slightly different charging receiver. Thanks!

I don't see the Qi info on the cover or package, so I'm assuming not. Attaching a pic just in case.
If it's not a wireless charging back, what are the contacts for? NFC? (and if it's NFC, why doesn't the standard back need the same?)

Those contacts are part of a chip that tells the Phone what Kind of Cover is attached.
If you had a charging Cover there would be 3 contacts there plus 2 horizontal contacts higher and to the left for the NFC.

That's the non-wireless charging S-View case. I have the same thing (in white) and was able to mod it to make the S-View AND wireless charging to work.
To the OP, thank you for the aluminum foil idea!! That's the one part my hack was missing as everytime I removed the case it was hit or miss with the contacts lining up correctly.

The three contacts to the left of battery are:
1. [CHARGE]
2. [GROUND]
3. [DATA]
The [DATA] part is used by the phone to determine what type of case is attached. The wireless charger connects to 1 and 2, whilst the flip-case connects to 2 and 3. So the holes are in the bottom two and allow the flip case to be recognized by the phone.
The best way to do this is to just buy the Techmatte Qi receiver! It leaves the contacts open on both sides, so my official Samsung S-View case works perfectly without ANY modifications needed!! Highly recommend that everyone go that route!

Yes this would be the perfect solution.
I searched Google Shopping, eBay and Amazon for "Techmatte" and got no results
Anyone know of a UK seller or somewhere that ships to the UK with this in stock?

Yes this is the best solution, but apparently, there will be many people who will buy the 1 to 1 copy s view cover, and not all of these will work.

This LOOKS like it will work the same:

No need to modify Qi receiver for S-View cover to work!!

That's right, you do NOT have to modify a Qi receiver for the standard S-View cover to work properly!! You just need to purchase the correct Qi receiver, then your S-View cover functions just as it should AND it can charge wireless! The TechMatte Qi receiver already has the contacts open on the back side, so it works right out of the package!! It has VERY minimal bulge (unnoticeable to every one I've handed my naked phone to and told them to feel for the bulge), a larger charge area than my other slim Qi receiver, and of course any case that currently fits your phone still fits after installing their receiver (if you aren't using the S-View cover).
It can be bought from Amazon for $14.99 with free shipping! Here is the link for it :

This is the side that touches your phone

This is the back side which allows contact for the S-View cover.
Sorry for 2 posts to show 2 pics, but XDA Premium app only allows me to attach 1 pic per post.

Does this affect NFC?
Which QI charger are you using? was thinking about the Nokia one DT-900?

Adding wireless charging & magnets?

The Nexus 5/7 has Qi charging built-in and will stick to the magnetic Nexus Wireless Charging Pad.
I have seen this for the Note 3 that will add Wireless charging: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GMRXD9U/
and this magnetic car dock that comes with a metal plate: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DPMNNUO/
Is it possible to add both to the Note 3 without changing to a thicker battery cover?
I would like to know also. Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance..
I just spoke to another user via PM.
Apparently the nGroove Snap holds the phone pretty well using just the official Samsung Wireless Charging Cover, without an additional metal plate. Looking at pics online, i can see that there's some more metal in that cover, maybe that's why it works.
I had also read about people putting the metal plate behind their batteries - but I have no idea how thick it actually is.
The second one is good.
anyone knows of a similar pass through coil in Uk, i mean ebay UK or amazon.
