I was reluctant to do the update to 4.3 but decided to go ahead and give it a whirl. Things went smoothly, and all worked out as planned.
However, I'm now experiencing a constant drop in my wi-fi connectivity.
My employer provides an open wi-fi. The signal strength is a little weak in my office. Before 4.3, I was able to auto connect to the wi-fi and stay connected all day with no issues. Post update, I am constantly having to tell the phone to connect. Even though auto connect is checked. It seems like if the signal strength dips at all.....the phone drops the signal. Then instead of reconnecting, its sits unconnected until I open the wi-fi setting and force it to connect.
Do you guys know of some setting I'm missing or something that keeps this darn thing connected ??

I'm having an issue that has been bothering me. I run Etrade Pro with streaming data and charts, and when I leave my home, it does not automatically cut the wifi and switch to LTE or 4g. My app stops and says there is no data. This has happened a lot and I wonder if there are some settings that need to assure that mt cell signal automatically kicks in when Wifi cuts out.
ANother problem is that if I approach an area where there is wifi, the phone connects, and i usually get a data issue again.
I also got the same problem when i stream a video while on wifi and then leave the wifi zone, so I know it is not an Etrade app specific problem,
Any advice would be appreciated. What I am having to do is manually shut off wifi and then restart the app when the 4g kicks in, and I know the phone is designed to handle this for me.

I'm not sure this is something we have control over, I was reading over a white paper qualcomm wrote on the matter: http://www.qualcomm.com/media/documents/files/3g-wifi-seamless-offload.pdf
Our phone is 3GPP R8 however, I'm not sure at&t's network supports dual stack mobile IP, so therefor the handoff between wifi and 3g would have to interrupt data.
WHat bothers me is that I just came from an Iphone4 and the iPhone switched from wifi to cell, and my Etrade App kept running. There may have been a momentary lag, but i didn't have to close the app and start it again.
Let me look into it more when I get home. At work youtube is blocked on the company network so I can't test if a video continues between handover here.
WHen I leave my home and know that I am out of wifi range, I still see the wifi symbol on the home screen but it looks like there are no bars of strength. It's like the thing is still trying to draw data through wifi that is well out of range.
Frustrating.

So if the wifi symbol is on the status bar that means the phone is still connected to the wifi (or at least thinks it is).
I was not able to reproduce your problem with youtube when I was home. I started a video on wifi in my home, and then walked out the front door and down the hall until it lost the connection, the wifi symbol disappeared and it just had to re-buffer a little bit after it switched to LTE then the video continued.
My wifi connection often wrong, always in after a period of using, have no access to the Internet. Every time the wifi turned off to open another can get to the Internet, can wifi signal is always full. I searched a lot of method to did not solve, including XDA * # # 0011 turn off on wifi power save mode, when problem solving, but after a while just the same. And with only G mode and so on route, are not solutions. Change a lot of Rom, the kernel baseband all not line.Who's a way to solve?
I am not sure if this is the case but - have you tried different router? My S3 for example has issues when I go to my friend's house (he has some old/er Belkin router). However, when I am home wifi is blazing fast and no issues what so ever (cisco e3000).
my phone has a slight different problem, the phone detects strong signal for all my wifi, but will only save it, and not connect right away, some will not even connect, and sometime the speed is very slow.

I am sure there is no porblem with the router,SGS2 and IP4s with the same router is fine.
I'm getting WIFI problems when waking from deep sleep. My settings are set to keep WIFI on when sleeping only when plugged in, as i find this extends my battery life a little more.
Sometimes it reconnects when waking up, and other times it doesn't and i have to turn WIFI off and then on again to force it to scan and reconnect. If i don't do this and check WIFI, it says it's scanning, but never finds or connects to a network.
Anyone else get this?! I read somewhere about sleep of death on GS2?
There is a known problem with the wifi, I have just changed my phone and so far evrything is working.
been through 9-10 phone with different problems.
Ok, i've tried turning off WIFI power save in the system settings *#0011#
I'll report back with my findings in terms of waking from sleep and possible additional battery drain...
Turning off powersave didn't help on my speeds tho. My SGS2 can pull around 5-600KBs a second, while my SGS3 only pulls roughly half despite being at the roughly same location (ie laying next to each other)
When I deliberately turn off wifi cos there is none available I can use at work, on wake up my phone seems to always drop the 3G connection and attempt to connect to wifi, if there is a known one nearby it says connected to ' xxx hotspot' this happens when wifi is off and the connection doesnt actually get made, it then takes a while for 3G to come back on again, this is annoying as I dont have instant on data as it faffs around trying to connect to wifi when it is meant to be off.
I have a Stock phone, UK Vodafone on XXELLA version.
Is there a setting I have missed as this is starting to really annoy me now.
I wish I had kept my SGS2 as the freezing issues I keep getting and now this wifi make this a poor performing phone for the costs/specs..
I seem to be getting the same sort of wifi issues as previously stated elsewhere in this forum. I cannot hold a wifi connection on the 2.4ghz band fro more than 20s before its dissociated (ie i still have full connection to the router (3 bars) but cannot get through to the internet). This happens no matter what router i am connected to, whether its at home or at work.
I have tried:
[*]Setting the Wifi optimization checkbox off. No difference
[*]Avoid poor connections is off. No difference.
[*]Stamina mode is off. No difference.
[*]Keep Wifi on during sleep is set to Always. No difference.
[*]Sleep timeout to 30mins. No difference.
[*]I have factory reset the phone. No difference.
[*]Repaired the phone firmware with PC Companion. No difference.
I have also check to see if it is my router at home. I have switched between every channel available which made no difference. Security is Wpa/Wpa2 PSK AES which makes no difference. I only have the 2.4ghz available on that router at home (same at work).
My Note 3 and HTC One connect to both routers with no problems at all and do not drop out. Same goes with Sony Vaio Laptop.
I have installed Wifi Fixer on my Z2 to see if it can alleviate the problem and it does somewhat. instead of manually having to turn on and off the wifi toggle to reestablish a connection, the Wifi Fixer does it for me.Approx. every 20-30s in its log it will show the phone "dissociating" from the router, and the the app tries to "reassociate" the connection.
I can connect through wifi transfer to my Note 3 without issue, and the same goes for my TV, so it cant be a hardware fault, as the connection is still excellent strength for both (as well as the router, tested with Wifi Analyzer). This is a very frustrating problem as it makes watching youtube movies impossible, and hotspotting, skype calls, etc.....
And dont even get me started on the bluetooth dropouts. I am disconnected from a bluetooth connection every 66-70s without fail no matter what i try. No issues with my Note 3 and HTC One in the exact same conditions. It will disconnect then reconnect straight away with a delay of about 3 seconds, which makes calls and listening to music a VERY unpleasant experience.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I love everything else on this phone but this wifi/bluetooth connection issue is making it unusable. :crying:
I am on the .55 baseband version if that helps anyone
Hi folks,
Weird thing happening to me while I'm out of the country on vacation. Being out of the country is probably irrelevant though.
I'm in a hotel that has crappy slow "captive portal" wifi. So, you connect to the SSID without password, and it redirects you to a login page (name/room number), then it provisions the device.
The wifi frequently hangs or disconnects here, and is super slow even when it is working, so I decided to bail and just use my phone's mobile data. So I went into Internet and turned off the wifi. Slid that switch to OFF.
Looked down an hour later when I had trouble connecting to a site and found the wifi was back on and connected to the hotel site. I turned it off again, but shortly the same thing happened again.
Eventually I turned off the other part, where it can scan in the background for improved location etc, and THAT seems to have stopped the problem, but why does the wifi keep turning on and connecting when I've explicitly switched it off?
Bug? Feature?
Bit of a guess... you are on data roaming? If roaming, I bet the phone is looking for "better options" if discovery is on, and it will re-connect if it finds a wifi that it can use. I'll go with buggy-feature.
