Sorry for this stupid question but I cant find how to root my note 3 with Sprint without tripping knox or voiding the warranty. I've done so much searching but I only found one root method which is the Kingo app but I heard its not approved by XDA mods because it steals personal information from the phone. Please help
I have never tried the chainfire method of rooting so far. I've only tried kingo. I cannot report on other methods. I cannot verify on the accusations of stealing information either. I can vouch that kingo does not trip the Knox counter. That is all I have to report. Sorry if that is no help.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if I install the custom recovery like twrp or clockwork does that trip the knox counter with the kingo root method?

Custom recovery trips Knox. King usually doesn't but can.
What he said. Recovery is what sets off the Knox e-fuse.
Well that's crap. I'm on MI3 unrooted. Should I update and root or root and flash deodexed update? I've been unsure and hesitant to ask but the thread is here so, lol.
I'm on MJ4 and I'm out of luck period. At least for now.

They don't know what the info is used for. So its kinda like be safer then sorry. Me personally i use it and everything is just fine. 1000's of other have used it as well. In today's world everything is out there for thieves to use against you.
Yes you dont want to just give it to them but rest for sure if you bank with a major bank you have no worries. I bought a ps4 off amazon. The next day i had a charge from some other state at walmart for $42.00! Called Wellsfargo and they put the money back in my account.
Just keep up with your credit scores and financial transactions as all Americans should be doing anyways.

Well said...I know I'm not the only person that used the software but at the same time I don't want to go through the whole hassle of disputing activities on my credit report or bank accounts. I will hold off a little longer for some other root method to come out. Do you know if the Root de la Vega is available for Sprints Note 3?
Like we said, kango root won't trip Knox. Adding custom recovery will. If you are determined to run a custom ROM, then you will have to install a custom recovery to flash it and that recovery will trip Knox.
I used the chain fire method on the MJ4 update and had no issues. Going to have to trip Knox though. But look around, no one is having problems with sprint with Knox tripped except for a few unlucky people and they go to a different store and problem is solved.

Correct, but I would recommend that you deep-six the idea of uninstalling any system apps (honestly, it can cause some serious problems with your device). Best to freeze them using TiBu. Your phone has a ton of system space, and deleting apps can lead to undesired results, with no upside.
Any app that can be frozen from app manager should be done from there first (select disable). The rest, use the freeze option from TiBu (Sprint Zone, Connection Optimizer).
Do one or two at a time, then reboot. See if your phone locks up after some use. If no issues, freeze another clutch of apps. If you do run into trouble, thawing the app is your next move.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

rooting new 4.4.4 NH7 without tripping knox tmobile m919 model
Looking for stwp by step directions on how to pull this off.
You can still use towelroot, but you need to flash back the 4.4.2 NB4 stock kernel through odin. After rooted reflash the new 4.4.4 NH7 stock kernel. There you go, rooted NH7 knox 0x0.

(UPDATE) 10/30/13--WORKING MJ4
SUCCESS ROOT ON MJ4 KNOX 0x0!
IF YOUR ALREADY ON MJ4 and want to keep knox 0x0 read bootloader warning and look at end of this post. (optionally take the mj4 ota and do one of the methods below.)
WARNING!!!!! THE MJ4 UPDATE MAY CONTAIN A NEW BOOTLOADER!!!
LOOK HERE for bootloader warning http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503620
there have been reports of people flipping knox trying to downgrade from mj4.
at the moment there is no full mj4 file. be careful (more info post #142)
i take no responsibility for any of this
Currently the best method for doing this
Get the full official mi5 file from --http://hotfile.com/dl/251958168/19cbccf/SPR-N900PVPUBMI5-20131004144419.zip.html
this will serve as the basis for rooting straight to mi5.
next go HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498850
read that page twice. read it again.
i used those files on a copy of the mi5 software to create a modified vega ready version
from there its pretty much the same
Just to be safe pull your sd card first.
FLASH THE STOCK MI5 FIRST (not needed)
1. Flash the modified vega full mi5 file you created earlier.
2. do the part with the root files on the sd card.(IT MAY BE BEST TO SKIP THIS PART UNTIL AFTER THE OTA skipping steps 2-4 should let you update, then run the sd files to gain root after update then you should be able to set status official with wanam and you should be all ready to accept the next ota.just skip 2 all together and move steps 3-4 to the end)(thanks @bard77)
3.install the wanam xposed framework and wanam xposed (the apk is in the market along with a link to the framework get both) make sure to open the framework and click update/install. (This is done in the xposed installer app not the wanam app.)
4. Spoof system status to official using wanam
5.accept the ota update and reboot
6. Copy the vega root files back to the sd
7.reboot
8.remove the vega root files again
9.reboot
10. Check root. i used root checker free from market
11. check knox status (reboot download mode again)
12. head back over to the vega thread and throw a thanks and maybe buy designgears a drink!
if using supersu pro keep ota root method. you must run the sd files before accepting ota (must have root first) then you wouldnt need to run them again. but because you have to run them once at some point anyway probably better at this point to go ahead and skip the sd files until after ota and reboot.
I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SET SYSTEM STATUS BACK TO OFFICIAL WITH WANAM YET>this is no big deal.will just have to wait for the next update anyway. (Check updated method above in red. doing it that way should let you spoof status again.)
I did not have to wipe data.
a downgrade will not flip the flag.(ON MJ4 A DOWNGRADE MAY FLIP KNOX!!)
vega knox safe root works.
spoofing system status works
flashing the official sammy again gives you a stock phone with knox still 0x0 and status official.(there is no mj4 full restore be careful!)
system status custom but no biggie there.
Spoofing system status to official with xposed and taking the ota will remove root.you must use the vega root files again.or supersu pro to keep root.
Flashing any full stock samsung files again will return everything to official.(caution on mj4)
Good enough for me at the moment.
Also remember flashing a custom kernel\recovery at this time will flip knox.
Any zip files you would want to flash will need to be done manually instead. Use adb or a file explorer with root access [I use es file explorer] and copy the files over.
THIS WILL NOT RESET KNOX if it has already been flipped. at the moment it looks like a hardware fuse gets blown. there may be no way to reset knox to 0x0. (however i am constantly surprised at what the talented devs on this forum can pull off)
FLASHING ANY CUSTOM KERNEL/RECOVERY/ROMS will flip the knox flag.
now we can use the native sprint hotspot mod! pretty much my reason for going through this. ( a mj4 odex version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46980618#post46980618)
you may need to turn on usb debugging mode also.especially for methods below.
you can turn on usb debugging mode here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468680
IF YOUR ALREADY ON MJ4:
the method above will not work for you.
you will not be able to downgrade to run the vega files.
at least until samsung releases a mj4 upgrade.
for now your best option might be an app called kingoroot but beware it may be dangerous from a security pov (http://www.no links please) (thanks @cherylbaker @dallastx for testing for us)
another option may be using vroot tool . (once again you will need to google it do not post links. please.) (thanks @cyphol post #190 with instructions on how to use a few posts later)
Thanks a mil for testing

Yea I'm downloading it now. Ultimate goal is. Go back to MI3 use the VEGA knox safe root. Spoof the system status with xposed and see if I can get the ota.
In theory that gives me root with knox 0x0 and mi5 but no one has tried yet I guess.

im doing this right now.
it has been reported the knox safe boot works on sprint.
i can confirm 100% that a downgrade back to mi3 using the official sammy files will not trip knox.
didnt even wipe my data so far.
will report back shortly with more info and if all is successful a short tut.
can now report for 100% knox safe root has worked.
now to see about xposed and the ota.
xposed let me set status back to official! update downloaded!
Bummer! appears updating looses root. resets status to custom.
however knox still 0x0 and everything works so far.
ill mess around for a bit and see what i can come up with.
So i guess the way to go with this right now would be to just downgrade to mi3.
root with vega.
(optionally install exposed)
and just don't update to mi5.
since mi5 doesn't really effect much at the moment this shouldn't be a problem.
MI5 Enhancements/Fixes

Edit:

Flashing a custom recovery\kernel will flip the knox flag.so I have not.
If you want custom rooms you'd be better using the cf auto root and TWRP recovery. However that would flip the knox flag.
I mostly see this as a temporary hold over to keep knox intact until everything gets figured out.

Edited this original post here, it was 3:30am when I typed the original.. Anyway - anyone know if rooting can cause any type of instability on it's own? Without installing custom mods, roms, etc - does the act of rooting potentially cause things to not work as intended from the carrier? (my friend had an S3, rooted, and allshare stopped working - he was only rooted). I know there is some type of exploit involved in gaining root access, so that's why I ask. It's not a critique on rooting, I want to do it myself.

Anyone? I know it says "at your own risk", but i am curious - are there inherent known issues that can crop up just from rooting alone, maybe from just the method of gaining root through the system?

There may be a few things that don't function properly as a result from rooting. But it's 99.99999% of the time not an actual issue with the files on the phone. Nothing should be modified except for root access.
One of the ones for sure would be ota updates. I read someone else was having issues with one of the Samsung apps for streaming video to devices. These issues and others like them were caused by the system status being changed to custom and can be solved quite easily by setting the system status back to official with wanam xposed. With root and the status set to official your phone should preform exactly as stock in every way except you'll have root.
But be aware if you accept the ota while rooted you may lose root. Would have to re root or use supersu pro to maintain root during the ota.
From my Note 3
Rooting will give you many benefits. Some of these include unauthorized apk installation, developer mode, custom firmware/modem improvements and fixes for some less functional stock features. This list could go on and on...
Most carriers frown upon customers rooting their devices for a few reasons; liability, damage control and profit above all.
When your device is rooted, custum, unofficial, and/or the Samsung KNOX binary counter has been tripped, Sprint/Samsung will consider your warranty void. Basically you will need to return the device to official stock and unrooted if you need to have your phone serviced.

Fully agree.
However just to say it again because I see the question everywhere.
YOU CAN NOT RESET KNOX TO 0X0 AFTER IT HAS BEEN TRIPPED TO 0X1.
There is a root method that doesn't flip the knox flag though if that is a concern.

I've never had issues when just rooting a device granted I've only had the s3 and note 2 and now the note 3. But with the note 3 if you use the auto root method it will trip knox and that can't be undone and will void the warranty. The root de la vega method will give you just root access if it's what your looking for with out messing up knox.
Thanks guys. Yeah, like I said my buddy's allshare cast stopped when he rooted, so now he's reluctant to do that again. I know about not accepting OTAs. I think I am going to wait to see what other root methods may crop up, and also see if anyone finds away to reverse any accidental knox trips. Right now, i'm just enjoying the damn thing lol! Thanks all.

If your knox is already flipped no need to wait for a new method. Just cm auto root. Use xposed to set system status official. And optionally get supersu pro and select the keep root ota option or don't update to any ota .the files will be in the development section to flash after its released. Like this and you should be 100% functional and stock/rooted.
I'm currently rooted with the vega root .status official. And everything appears to work for me including allshare.
There is always a risk with changing anything. But in my opinion the benefits out way the risks. And all of this is easily undone by just flashing back to a stock system.

Hi all, thanks in advance for any help on this. I have a few general s5 rooting questions. I'm an experienced 'rooter' having rooted and installed custom ROMs on many previous devices.
- I've ready that the s5 has an 'e-fuse' that gets 'blown' when the device is rooted. this then voids the warranty and prevents things like Fort Knox from running. I get that, and understand the risks. But, I've also read that the lollipop update will remove root. These two things seem to contradict themselves.
- on other devices I've rooted, I've then installed a custom ROM. I don't plan to do this with my s5. I haven't been able to find much written on the experience of a rooted s5 running the samsung stock ROM/firmware. I'd like to use something like xposed to change parts of the ROM (like the white background that's so pervasive in the s5 flavor of lollipop). I'm curious if anyone is running lollipop on an s5 that is rooted but running stock samsung firmware and xposed.
thanks!
Rooting won't trip Knox. Installing a custom recovery will. If you have insurance on your device tripping Knox doesn't matter, your covered anyway.

very interesting, thanks! can I run xposed/titanium backup pro/other root things without a custom recovery? all I'm really interested in is modifying Samsung-dictated things (like apps that can't be frozen and colors/elements that can't be changed) + making complete backups to the SD card. If I recall from my previous experiences, a custom recovery was the way to create a nandroid backup...but I think perhaps titanium backup pro can do that from the android front-end (with root).
I assume that I should wait to root until the tmobile s5 gets lollipop? i.e. that update will kill root?

Right now there are threads that show you how to get rooted lollipop on your phone without tripping Knox which basically involves downgrading the kernel so you can root with towelroot, then using mobile Odin to flash lollipop and inject root in the process. It seems people are able to do this without issues. To this point, I do not think that anyone has found an exploit for lollipop.
The problem you will run into is that Xposed still does not run on lollipop so you cannot do much in the way of customization. Most of the G900F ROMs can run on the G900T so you might poke around in those threads to pick up more info.
Hope this helps a little.
If I or anybody on XDA helps you, please hit the "Thanks" button.

very interesting, thanks! can I run xposed/titanium backup pro/other root things without a custom recovery? all I'm really interested in is modifying Samsung-dictated things (like apps that can't be frozen and colors/elements that can't be changed) + making complete backups to the SD card. If I recall from my previous experiences, a custom recovery was the way to create a nandroid backup...but I think perhaps titanium backup pro can do that from the android front-end (with root).
I assume that I should wait to root until the tmobile s5 gets lollipop? i.e. that update will kill root?

System runtime is different. Art for lollipop compared to dalvik.. So it's not compatible as of now

are you sure ? I have been able to downgrade. towelroot and flash lollipop and it boots but supersu does not work properly. root apps ask permission and supersu grants permission but the apps dont actually work

Rooting won't trip Knox. Installing a custom recovery will. If you have insurance on your device tripping Knox doesn't matter, your covered anyway.

I don;t know where you heard that rooting won;'t trip Knox but I beleive you are wrong about that At least I know that Flashing cf auto root - flashing recovery or flashing custom roms all trip knox. If your phone can use Towel Root - that rooting process does not trip knox - but I am not sure if Towel Root works on Lollipop or on the S5 for that matter. (I may be wrong about Towel Root - I have never used that process so I can't say for sure)
Flashing a new rom via ODIN does not trip knox. It is just like getting an UPDATE from the carrier OTA.
BUT, If you are already rooted - you already have tripped knox - flashing Lollipop will remove root - but it will not do anything to change the fact that you tripped knox on your phone already.
As far as I know everything I have said is correct - based on what I have learned thru reading - flashing and using several different samsung phones -
finally, I see a lot of people paranoid as hell about tripping knox - and I can tell you without any hesitation that I have never had a problem getting service or replacements after rooting a phone - there have been a few times back when I first started flashing roms that I had issues with my phone and I took it in and got a replacement without any issue - once I broke my screen and got a replacement then too - both times I was rooted, running custom recovery - etc.
I hope this helps you
I used towel root on NE6. You can downgrade to that via Odin and not trip knox. As far as flashing 5.0 and losing root. I came from Alliance flash Twisted lollipop and kept root. Then used Odin to flash the bootloader and modem for OB1.
Do you still have Knox 0?
How did you flash lollipop?
Pretty easily done with Odin and TWRP.
ALERT! This will void whatever warranty you have. Also, I am not at fault if your phone comes to life..... or dies.
Just need to download Odin (there are forums all over for finding the files.)
Download the TWRP recovery flash file:
http://dl.twrp.me/hltespr/twrp-2.8.6.1-hltespr-4.4.img.tar
Download Chainfire's SuperSU and copy to SD card:
http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
Power off phone entirely.
Hold Volume down + home and power the device on, then press Volume up to confirm entering Download Mode.
Open Odin.
Connect Phone to computer.
Wait for drivers to install if not already. May need to obtain Samsung USB drivers (http://androidxda.com/download-samsung-usb-drivers)
When the box shows "COM #", click the PDA button and select the TWRP image file you downloaded. (or other recovery).
Uncheck "Auto Reset"
Click Start.
Once finished, disconnect device.
PULL BATTERY
Power into Recovery first thing first by holding Volume up + Home. (failure to do so will result in the stock recovery being flashed back on boot by the phone)
Recovery will autopatch the ROM to prevent the stock recovery from being rewritten on reboot. (or should)
From inside your recovery, flash the SuperSU update zip.
Reboot and enjoy root!
(I had to try a couple of times through trial and error to get it to stick)
Thank you.
Thank worked like a charm!
Worked first time. Thanks!

Does doing it this way trip Knox? I read the part about voiding your warranty. I know by having root it voids Samsung warranty.

It does from what I can tell. A stock ROM flash should be able to reset Knox, it did for me, but varied results from other threads on these forums.

Wow your the first person that I have read that was able to reset a blown an efuse American sprint note 3 Knox that way.
I'm reluctant to try it.
And thinking about it it looks like that yes it would looks like it needs a a non stock recovery.
I'll wait.
Looks like we are about to have a deodexed stock rom with root about to drop. From the other thread post in here.

Just to clarify. Once KNOX is tripped there is no reseting it unless the insides are swapped out. When you trip KNOX you blow an e-fuse which is non reversible. However there are ways of upgrading and keeping root without tripping knox, but thats has nothing to do with this

so tripping KNOX and blowing the e-fuse is bad, right? so what happens after? does the phone self destruct? and is there a way around it?

It's only bad if you care about warranty. Once rooted it will show 0x1 in Download Mode. A Samsung repair Tech or Sprint Repair Tech can see that and refuse to fix your phone

Sprint doesn't care. It's more on Samsung go site. Never had a issue with Knox tripped with sprint.

Got root
Worked a treat on my Note 3 SM-9005 Lollipop, took 1st time no probs.
Knox is tripped but what the hell, I've been living with the stock build up until the Lollipop update.
works fine
I recently upgraded to ok2, and used this same procedure to reroot my phone successfully.
Coming from JellyBean MJ4 firmware would it be safe to flash the pre-rooted OK2 through TWRP?
Flashed fine from NAB and seemed functional enough but I wasn't happy with the Lollipop UI. Reverted to NK4.
Thanks worked from OK2 Stock.
One question... Can I use another SU application? I was trying to use an old wireless tethering application but it is asking me if I am rooted and won't start.
Titanium backup runs fine and says I have root, as does Root Checker.
If not, does anyone have a working wireless tethering application for their Note 3?

I use Wi-Fi tether router. It's about $3 and works beautifully. (It does license check I believe)
They haven't updated their language to include lollipop, but as a general rule, whatever it says to do for kitkat will work on lollipop. Under "Configure Router," they have a link to the website with a list of configurations. Just follow that, and you should be good. One thing that I would add is to leave the "lte tether patch" unchecked.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter
You could try finding a newer superuser zip to flash in recovery. I do know that a couple of older ones gave that issue. I personally didn't have any luck with another supersu app, but the last time I tried a different one was on kitKat.

OP here.
It's unlikely to brick but I don't even want it to trip the Knox flag, let alone bricking!
My main focus as of now is I527M (Canadian variation). I can say that I527M uses logic board of I527, so I'm guessing it's just a matter of software issue that people are having so much trouble rooting I527 at all.
I was able to root my Mega 6.3 sgh-i527m
Hello all, I found a few articles that lead no where, Then I saw this forum talking about using Package Disabler. Download it from the google play store. Kill any process looking like Knox Icon. One will not allow it as Package Disabler will need Admin access to your phone and remove Knox Admin privileges, Disable last Knox Package. Then Boot into Download mode with Odin 3.09 on. Root your phone as normal, except for the Reboot automatically option. Uncheck that feature as you want to boot into Bootloader first. Once your into the CW custom recovery or the recovery that comes with your choice of rooting, Install latest version of SuperSU. Finish and boot back into Android. Get Root Checker to verify or Titanium Backup. I used Titanium Backup to un install everything related to Knox. No more Nagging Knox popping up and phone is rooted.

Well, rooting SGH-I527M was possible and pretty simple to be honest. What I wanted to achieve was to root it without tripping Knox.
I'm sure your Knox flag is tripped, right?
I have root!!! I527 4.4.2
Kingroot latest version 4.1.0.249 (From androidxda) successfully rooted my phone. Knox didn't get tripped until I tried to do a custom recovery on my own, which admittedly, I don't know what I'm doing. But other than that, it did disable knox and worked perfectly. I do have screenshots, but it won't let me post outside links because I have less than 10 posts.

Yeah, unlocked. That's the same thing I got on my old Nexus S when I got fastboot. It's unlocked, but still have an issue with AT&T software. If someone can figure out how to get around that, I've been trying and spent all night trying to get my phone back to where it was, working backups and custom roms can be created.
Ok...nothing really just that I was able to get knox back in my phone and when I try and update su it says that knox has been detected when I took it off it said just that I couldn't update su....so....yeah. but unlock is still on boot. I hope we can get this thing cracked.

As a record in the history of mankind, I've been living with this phone for months happily without rooting it, but now I can't take it anymore. It is ridiculous that I can't sync my Dropbox to the external SD card! What the hell KitKat!!! I am very close to root this baby, in an unstoppable rampage!!! Seriously, what the hell Android team! I am very close to say goodbye to Knox 0x0...
But I might wait a bit more for @Kingxteam and PingPongRoot !
