about screen on time and battery - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my galaxy s2 can only have 2 hours of screen on time, can someone give me any information about screen time especially for 3D games?
maybe because the battery? my s2 is 2nd hand and the battery is made on 2011-8-8, its already 2 years,if you had buy a new battery please give information about screen on time with the new battery, especially on 3D games
my s2 is on stock JB 4.1.2 with speedmod kernel k5-8 and use pure perfomance script
battery test on gsmarena with the ics firmware can run 5 hours of internet browsing and 7 hours of video playback screen on time,it is true?
can anyone give advice for battery time latest ics 4.0.4 vs jb 4.1.2 stock?

First of all,do not compare ICS with JB.Normally jellybean will have less battery,as it is a more recent Android, and it needs more performance. If battery is 2 years old,I suggest you to change it.Here is a nice and good battery, that I'm using too Battery.About software,I recommend you NeatROM with Apolo Kernel 4.12 Extreme v0.

i'm getting almost 5 hour but as you can see I didn't make proper test
using chameleon rom apolo 4.12 light hyper governor

After 8 hours with mobile data on
77% accu left. Think this is a very good combination.
The recent XWK** or XXK** modems all worked fine for me so far.
What modem SW are you running at the moment?
KI4 is best for me (simyo). after 2days im at 87% battery with medium workday usage. KI4 + CM7 nightly #94 + Siyah 2.0 Kernel (no UC/UV) + only 3G active. pretty impressive.

As I am on O2 in Germany too, I recommend to use the XXKI3 or XXKI4 modem.
They both are nearly equal in performance and battery life.
Some say that XXKI4 is a little bit better in wifi/mobile switching times, and other say that XXKI3 is a little bit better for battery life.
For me, both worked fine and I could not really see a significant difference at all.
So, it is your choice !
P.S.: Just to be sure, here is a link where to find the current modem files => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17967764&postcount=5
There are more links available ... but I think that one is OK to post here.
xxki4
im also in the o2 network, but with lidl mobile, live in berlin, so its a big city, lots of signal most of the time, was first on kg1, wasnt that bad, but ki4 is a lot better, so i would recommend it.
im on darkyrom2 base xxki3, ki4 modem, siyahkernel 2.0, no uc or uv, but changed the governor from on demand to smartassv2, use a darktheme and darkthemed laucher (go launcher ex) black (live starsfield) background, i also froze the samsung hubs and apps, and get 18 h of really good use, 5 1/2 h (on average) of display on (at about 15% brightness), before all the tweaks i was getting 3 1/2-4 hours of screen on time and about 12 hours alltogeher.

Kernel Benchmarks inconsistent

Ive been trying to find the best performance/reliability from some of our kernels and have a question.
HTC stock kernel quadrant 2500
HTC stock kernel antutu 5200-5400
DSB's kernel quadrant 1700
DSB's kernel antutu 5600
SO my question is, how can stock be that much faster in quadrant? I know benchmarkas generally dont matter but thats an 800 point diffrence. DO you guys feel that stock is faster? And how come antutu doesnt reflect that big of a diffrence?

You'll learn very quick here that many believe quadrant to be insanely inaccurate. Only look at antutu for results.
Tho benchmarks vary, it all matters how fluid the phone feels while using it.

After 11 hours of use, with widgets & apps running on the latest version of quadrant I got the following on Scott's ics 3.1

I'm talking about gingerbread stock vs non stock kernels not ics. I know ics scores higher in benchmarks.
I get 2550 using quadrant and its pretty much the same every time and I'm stock but I take these app with a grain of salt.

Lol I got 1730 with DSBs on 1.8ghz, obviously thats waayy wrong. I got higher than that with my old Desire at 1.15ghz, my old galaxy got over 3k a lot. Lol.

Bye.
It's not a question about pros and cons, it's about what you expect from your phone. You have to try them all and choose what you want and serves you best.
I used Fluxxi, Siyah, CM9 and others kernels. I enjoy more the Siyah, because I believe it hands to you more performance on the CPU's and the touch is better, with more configurations on the tweaks then others kernels delivers. But a lot of people prefers Fluxxi, and others prefers other kernels.

Ok My Friend, Good Luck...

Our 2GB RAM are enough? Z5C future proof ?

hey,
as you see the Z5C barely came out year ago
and semi heavy game, left the phone with about 10% of RAM memory
(no other apps open) the only app that open ,is small app that checks free RAM in real time
also (swap)ZRAM was about 10% , when i left the app, and return the main screen again the game was closed and you could the see the icons reloading and the ram jumped again, that why i use my old phone and real time small app ... had to reload the game again....
anyway year after that the device didn't move at all 0RAM (my old sony) and also when sony uses Zram the device relatively slow , and had to replace the device
i know swap(zram size can be changed when rooted.. but again...much slower than RAM (i've tried it on my previous sony it help till i got new device)
in short! how many time you think we have till we need to replace our Z5C?

What would you replace it with? There is no competition and even Sony gave up on compact flagships.
yup X is 5" inch, although is not by match , my previous sony was 3.7inch",
another reason why probably Z5C my last phone from sony along with overheating ,software\hardware random bugs\problems ,
xperia X is 3GB and full HD screen compared to Z5C
beside that z5c is better According to basemark X, and anutu ) only X performance is really better overall
if z5c at least had 3GB RAM it was better\future proof , i guess ill need to replace again after 2- 5 years
Just use AOSP-based ROMs with Kernels and mod the **** out of them
(e.g. add vnswap, zswap, ..., if necessary even UKSM or KSM) and other stuff,
that should be enough for at least the next few years ...

As far as I see in these forums, we will never have stable, fully working AOSP roms. There is simply not enough interest in z5 line, also after about a year since the release. You and few other developers are the ones bringing features but there's still a lot of work to do and the phone is already 1year old. This is only my impression and I hope it is a wrong one as i really like AOSP customizations.
But for now I think we can't compare stock with AOSP in terms of usability.
Regarding the topic, i also thought about using Zram to keep more apps opened in background. I also felt this need particularly when playing games.
Debloat the rom and use Greenify donated, that will always help with the memory.
