[Q] You recommend the Xperia Tablet Z???? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I really love the Xperia Tablet Z, and before I buy it, I want know the user experience you have:
Would you recommend the Tablet Z? I want a solid and reliable device.
How long is a tablet battery life, to replace it? You can tell me your experience with another tablets too.
Anyone tried PPSSPP in Tablet Z with heavy games (like God Of War, Crash Mind Over Mutant)?
How is the sound of loudspeaker?
With all pros and cons this device has, after a few months, do you recommend it?
Thanks in advance, have a nice day

It is the best tablet i have owned so far. I had an Ipad 2, Ipad 3 and a chinese retina tab (still have it to play around with it for fun).
The Xperia ist thin, light and looks great and the resolution of the display is perfect - believe me you don't want more then 108ßp on such a small device. There are various custom ROMs for it if you like that but it works just fine with sonys original firmware wich is far from bloated. I would reccomend this device.

Last week i but of the Screen protector, yesterday i put a new anti glare screenprotector on it.
Nearly no reflection, but i have to manipulate the auto brightness.
Also inserted a micros-sd, download all movies music etc. i want. Installed xbmc.
2day ago i installed cm11 (android 4.4).
And with the dockingstation i don`t miss anything on this tablet.
What sucks is the port protection for the headphones, every time i have to open it. (maybe i should buy Bluetooth headphones set up an audio offset because of the delay for all movies and enjoy it).

I'm curious about the battery life as well. Also, how bright does it get? I would like to use it outside ideally.

Battery lasts fine for me as long as the brightness isn't over 50%. The devices consumes almost no power with screen off. The biggest problem of battery is the screen...
Out of the 5 hours that my device is currently on and with 77% battery now, and with only 1h48min of screen, it is the culprit of 65% of my battery usage. Brightness is around 30%, which is fine for me indoors and with some sunlight...

[PHOTO] Seriously AMAZING battery life on Mini Pro

Hi everybody.
Look at my attached pic, seriously what other smartphone out there can give you battery life like that??? I know it's been on standby the whole time but I am impressed enough to take a pic and post about it here - and I did use it 2 days back to take lots of photos in the snow so don't know what that didn't come up on the battery usage screen.
Here's the settings:
3G off
Wifi off
Google sync off
Silent
There's no apps installed running on it currently.
Since getting an Xperia Mini Pro I have also got the HTC Desire Z and iPhone 4. But still I keep getting impressed by the Mini Pro and am very tempted to sell my HTC-Z and stick use the XMP instead as primary personal phone. (iPhone4 is from work).
Things I like about the Mini Pro:
LOUD loudspeaker
Best physical keyboard
Tiny small and strong build
FAST
Reliable
Any way hope this post was in some way helpful
standby ... wow.
in comparison to 3 hours of maximum usage ...
sorry but the threadtitle made me angry.
Yeah to be honest if you use it as intended your going to get roughly about a days worth of use if your lucky!
You could keep it turned off, in a box in he cupboard, and the battery would last for weeks!
woot you serious ? I got like 7 days when idle

[Q] Interested in buying but worried about battery

I guess the title says it all. I'm interested in buying the Z Ultra (unlocked international) but I'm very concerned about the battery.
I HATE having to charge my phone in the middle of the day. If it has to happen once a week that's too often for me. What I currently do with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (which I use as a phone) is I charge it at night when I'm going to sleep. I never have to worry about the charge, even if I am using it constantly all day. If I use the device sparingly I can even stretch it out for two days.
Can this device come even close to that?
Will I have to keep a charger with me at all times?
I can accept a smaller battery than my current amazing performance. What I'm looking for is that most of the time, I can wait to charge my phone until I'm going to bed with average usage. Not constantly checking messages, emails, browser, etc.
Thanks for the answers guys!
hello,
i am also interested to buy the XZU but also worried like you about battery..
What i want to know. how would be the battery life in 1 or 2 years ?
I think we have to wait a few more month to get the best details
The answer is pretty clear. You can't compare the two. 7.7 has nearly 2x battery capacity (5100mAh vs 3000mAh) than ZU. Tab 7.7. It runs on 2 Cortex A9 processer which is slower and use much lesser power than the latest Snapdragon 800 chip.
I can only say battery if the 3G ZU is comparable to Samsung S4 LTE.

So do you mean it can barely get through a day? Rushing to charge it in the evening? Or fine till bedtime?

It all depends on user. How I use the device will be different from everyone else. But generally speaking you can go to the General Section and check the battery usage stats. Most people can last through a working day (ie leave home with 100% and survive until knock off and reach home).

Thanks for that avsquare, I think that clears it up for me pretty much. Now the question is am I ready to go back to that old feeling of always being worried about my phone's charge...

This is one of my biggest dilemma when I was considering the Z Ultra. To be frank, I hated phones without swappable batteries so I rarely buy such phones.
If you share the same concern, ask yourself if you can do with large powerbanks (I'm personally not really fond of the idea). Personally, if possible, I prefer a swappable battery - just change and ready to go.
If you dislike powerbanks, maybe you should wait for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
It's a matter of choice. If you like the phone, buy it. With some tweaks you can make it last a whole day.
I don't think I'll "just buy it". The phone looks beautiful & everything but battery life for me is very important. I have this problem with all phones these days. They can all be made just a tiny bit thicker and have a bigger battery that lasts for a day and a half or two days with a few hours each day of screen time. That way if you use the phone a little too much today, it'll still last till the end of the day.
If you work for Sony you can give them this feedback
All smartphones have this so called 'problem'. The battery just can't handle more than a day with average usage. The only thing remaining is to use apps to hibernate applications,CPU handling and other tweaks,of course,on a rooted phone.

Sorry guys I'm not here to complain!!! I'm just asking about the phone and how it suits my preferences. Great battery life is a requirement for me and others who have posted in this thread. Tweaks might help, but I'm not interested in spending my time fiddling till I get it just right. I've also heard that a lot of Sony devices can have very long standby time which is great, but I also want long usage time.
For now I'll stick to my (admittedly crazy) way of using my tablet as a phone till someone makes a nice large screened phone (6+) with great (not average) battery life. There are smaller phones with great battery life, this however is a new size that I'm interested in (big but not toooo big) but my original requirement remains: great battery life.

Try Huawei Ascend Mate, then. 6.1 inch. Of course, the core hardware of that one is not as shiny as the ZU.

Not a bad choice, HD screen with 2 more A9 cores compared to his 7.7 tab with a whooping 4050mAh battery for a smartphone these days.
Still kinda an upgrade for him
Interesting... but not sure if it's available in my country. I'll see what I can find.

Just remember that the Mate has a 720p display - stretched across 6.1 inches. It looks like Satan runs Huawei Now, i'm not sure if you care at all, but that would give me a heart attack.

Actually, it's not too bad. I've even used the Note 10.1 before which is a 720p stretched over 10.1'' screen
Honestly it isn't too bad considering the viewing distance (remember PPI alone doesn't mean a thing if you don't take into account of the viewing distance) but once you've been spoilt by FHD screens.. there's no going back

And father of satan runs samsung, they have 720p on a 6.3" in Mega
4K TVs are coming out now.. Let's wait for the era of 4K smartphone to emerge... but then 128GB microSD cards will feel like a 3.5" floppy disk in term of capacity
I checked and didn't find the Huawei in my country.
About pixel density, at 6 inches 1280 * 720 is pretty good but of course Sony's 1080p is amazing.
I just read the Engadget review of the Z Ultra and it seems pretty average for a phone but strange that they played one game for one hour and lost 40% of the charge! I'm not ready to deal with that unfortunately.
Seriously the device is expensive but I would've bought it in 2 seconds if the battery was better.

They played Riptide GP 2 for an hour. Have you seen that game? It's not exactly Tetris, so it's understandable that it sucks the life out of the battery. I watched a YouTube review of Riptide, and they said it kills the battery, and the reviewer played it on a different device (can't remember which, but it was either the Note 2, S4, HTC One or the Moto X)
I did a Google search for external power back for an 'Xperia z ', as this mobiles been around for a while.
I found an external battery product for the Xperia z from a company called 'Power Bank', and decided to send them an email enquiry regarding any possibilities that they might do a similar the market product for the 'Xperia z ultra', they replied saying that it is very likely that they will have something in on the market, and to watch their website during the coming months.
So, for anyone who's thinking of getting one, or has one already, there's a good change the battery stamina issue may well get solved.
Hope this info helps.

[Q] Tell me everything about Xperia Z Ultra

Hi buddies, i was checking for the Xperia Z Ultra, it is really a good option???
I love this phablet, specially for the big screen. But I have some questions:
Can you tell me your user experience with Z Ultra?
Are the integrated battery smartphones sure? I use the removable battery all the time. You can tell me your experience with other Sony phones too.
Can you tell me all the bugs you found in it
Tell me general aspects of this phone (portability, heating, camera, sound, screen, etc.)
Anyone tried PPSSPP in the Z Ultra? Can you tell me your experience with high graphic games (e.g Crash Titans, God Of War)
I´m considering buy this phone, I love it. Thanks in advance.
Sorry for my poor English.
- If you mean user experience as in Sony UI, it's good. It's not bloated and things are fast and smooth. As for its physical size, it can be too much if you have small hands, but we - the users here, clearly like it.
- The battery is non-removable and it's good. You can expect to get 4-5 hours of screen time on each charge with 15-24 hours of uptime. My personal record is 7 hours of screen time and about 22 hours of uptime (on a single charge). STAMINA does its job very well, so it doesn't use much battery while it's in standby.
- There aren't many bugs, but there might be some small ones. I can't really say that i've noticed any bugs in the latest firmware (257), but i'm sure there are some small ones hiding some place. You won't experience any serious ones though.
- Portability is.. well.. not as good as an iPhone or a Nexus 5, but you'll have to learn to have it in your jacket (if you live in a temperate region), and also learn to take the Ultra out of your front pocket when you sit down, or it might bend, Heating isn't an issue as long as you don't play games while charging the battery or play an intensive 3D game for a long period of time. Camera is really bad. That is all. The speaker is not that good and it's like a 5 year old playing the drums. You'll certainly hear it and you'll hear it when you receive calls and notifications, but it's not powerful at all so I wouldn't use it as a boomblaster at a party (the vibrator is brutal though). The screen is fantastic and it's bright and does the job very well, so no complaints there.
That's it i guess.

New XTZ == Fast battery drain (5% in 5 min)?

Hi all,
I just purchased a Xperia Tablet Z 32 Gig Wifi (SGP312) and am seeing an amazing amount of battery drain. I was using the kindle app and dropped about 5% battery power (96% to 91%) in about 5 minutes. Being that I just purchased this tablet from Amazon I would like to know if this is normal or if this sounds like it could be a hardware issue? Also, does someone know if the custom roms (e.g. CM10 or CM11) have better battery life?
Thanks!
Dave
Ps. I am running build number 10.4.1.B.0.109

i have a similar problem with the 16gb...which i didnt buy brand new. But i did get the updae from 4.2 to 4.3 when i bought it, and i believe its a
dirty update issue. Im going to wipe/restore it to make sure im running clean...usually fixes things on the Galaxy s3/s4 devices..........
the battery in this tablet is quite a bit smaller than other tablets, the galaxy 10.1 2014 has a 8200mah battery and ours has a 6000mah battery, i bought this tablet having an idea that the battery would be poor and thats what i got.
I generally leave mine plugged in most nights while im on it or it will just run out and not last a whole night.
I have always just seen this as normal for this tablet though.
reflash the firmware. Normally 2% battery loss overnight can be considered great, not 5% in 5 minutes.
Sorry if this doesn't help you but this is what I do and I have at least 7h usage on mine now from a single charge.
First up, if you are rooted try Greenify from app store, it saved a lot for me just doing all none system apps that don't require notifications or autoupdating (widgets).
Next up, drop your screen brightness, I regularly run mine on lowest setting. This isn't an issue as much if you don't mind removing Sony shatter protection on screen as it slightly darkens the screen, please be aware this is designed to stop your screen shattering if you drop it so do it at your own risk. I also use a generic matte screen protector to stop finger prints so you may not have this issue.
If you use custom ROM, most have performance settings, so if you don't use tablet for heavy gaming, you can save a lot of battery here by using power save settings and conservative processor governor. Again be careful with this if you are unsure, don't do it.
Lastly, most modern tablets etc have a fairly significant improvement the more you use it. Always try to run your battery to 10% or under before fully charging, however don't run it flat because you will most likely have issues.
Clean master is another app that helps me too. I turn off all settings except auto clean when screen turned off. Then go to memory boost and hold any apps you need running without being closed and press ignore.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Is Xperia Z Ultra Still Relevant and Worth Buying today?!?

Hey all! Is the Z Ultra still worth buying today? It has one of the best displays around, its design is not matched and it is half the price than when it was released which is around 300$ now.
But here is my dilema, at 300$ there are small tablets like the galaxy tab S 8.4 and others with great screens and battery life to compete. With that said my biggest concern which led me to consider other devices is the mixed review I got on battery life. But there is no great place to ask except ZU veterans
IS IT THAT BAD?? I do reading and watch occasional videos with average of 4hrs of screen on time with 3g/4g constantly browsing and downloading/uploading. Can't it handel that?
Are the days of the Z Ultra over or does it have some fight in it to compete?? I am all ears to listen to what you all got to say.
Thanks in advance!

Wow 2hrs is ridiculous. Is it under heavy usage like high graphiics games and such or foe simply texting and phone calls? I want to buy it badly but that is not unacceptable for me....

Some wi-fi usage and web browsing. However, this was done whilst the screen was at full brightness.
I'd say Kitkat was better for battery life. Should you be patient, Lolipop 5.1 will be released for the Xperia Z Ultra sometime in February.
Bugs and stability/performance and battery should all be improved.

Normally with every device i have used, i havent been able too see anything while outside. If i turn the brightness up, i can read and see everything fine. The phone has the latest android lollipop, and does have a good display with some still very good specs, i havent found anything that does not run perfectly. With lollipop, this thing just flys. My battery life is around 5 hours with very heavy usage, that is because i am always watching videos, or playing games, searching the web, etc. With light to medium usage this lasts me easily all day and then sone. I have unlimited 4g LTE and stream movies all the time, it works great.

Thanks for replying theinsector!
Ive been asking around and am getting roughly the same answers. 5-6hrs on heavy usage which is good news for me, and with some tweaks and mods things will get even better I hear, which makes it that much great. With the visibility issue, if setting the brightness at maximum will do the trick, then i have no complaints. I rarely use it in bright daylight but I don't want to squint and stress my eyes when I do. thanks again!

I just rebought the device. I have the nexus 6 and I went back to the Z ultra for the third time. I'm running bliss pop w expanded desktop and resized the screens on the launcher and no dock w slim pie. Camera is a disappointment sure. But I love the design, love the size, and still zips through without any issues.
