I purchased a ATT HTC One from one of my friends, it was rooted and had TWRP installed. It was also running Bigxie 4.3 GPe rom. I would like to go to the GPe 4.4 rom but the problem im having is all they ones I can find say they require S-OFF. My phone is S-ON and I have not been able to obtain S-OFF with revone or rumrunner. I tried moonshine but my phone would not boot after the fastboot process. Revone gives me an error 1 and rumrunner tells me to flash a unsecure kernal and try again. The phone is hboot 1.44. After doing a little research I found that someone pleople are saying to go back to the factory rom, the problem is im not sure if the guy backed up the factory rom before he flashed the 4.3 GPe rom. I have asked him and he can remember and blew me off... so my question is how can I find out if he backed up the factory rom, how to restore it or how to obtain S-OFF with bigxie 4.3 GPe rom. Thanks in advance for the help, btw im a noob at this so the more dumbed down responses the better

Rumrunner works just fine on your hboot. Reread the instructions and try again.
Also read up on how you make a backup of your soff when you are done.

If you have an AT&T phone - MID - PN0712000 - CID - CWS__001
just run this http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_1-26-502-15-zip/
Install the stock recovery and take the OTA Update... then just use rumrunner to s-off

Thanks cLsA, I restored that RUU and stock recovery, it was still not able to get rumrunner to work... error -6 this time. Im just giving up on getting 4.4... this is becoming a lot more trouble than its worth. I do have one more question though, is there a way to hide the system update is ready to install on 4.3 GPe ROM?

I installed the guru with root off. rumrunner would not run unless I had root so I installed the newest TWRP and gained root access. Rumrunner then did get futher but still gave me an error. I tried tried with revone then but it gave me a error -6. Also when I installed the guru I did not have a OTA update ready. My phone said it was already up to date. So I used TWRP and restored from a backup of my 4.3GPe rom.

Hi Yeah I have had it relocked and tried executing the RUU but still no luck.
i have the exact same issue. reason is, last time i used the RUU to get back to stock rom, i used the phone on stock rom for a while and updated my phone to the latest build which updated the HBoot to version 3.5.000 but the currently available RUUs are not compatible with the HBOOT v3.5 so we have to wait for the new RUUs
problem for me is that i have sold the phone and didnt want to send the phone out with a custom rom but time is running out im afraid.

So I have to wait for newer RUU to come out for my HBOOT. Thats not too bad if thats all it is.
I have the exact same problem with my O2 UK One +, does anyone have any idea on when these new RUU's will be available? is it possible to downgrade the HBOOT to an older version that will allow the current RUU's to work?
what about ADB sideloading a flashable .zip of the stock firmware? would that work (if we have a flashable zip) or would it kick back an error?
Thanks.
downgrade hboot works only at S-OFF state
OK, is that possible on this phone? it was on my old HTC Magic, although it was hard work!!!!!
no S-OFF at this time for tegra3
Ok, not looking good then, so is there no way for me to get back to a stock rom now? very tempted to recycle the phone and get another one.....

i have a solution for you.
i have a nandroid back up of my phone, you'd need to flash the boot.img in that and then use clockmod recovery to restore the phone to that nandroid and after that flash a stock recovery, relock the bootloader then use OTA updater on the phone to get it uptodate.
it takes a lot more work than just using the RUU, but they arent available right now, so that's what i did because i sold my phone so wanted it to be back to its original state for the new owner
i have the exact phone, mine was locked to O2 as well. i bet you bought it off that guy on ebay for £400?
pm me if you are interested and i will upload the stuff for you.

I accidentally missed a step when flashing a custom ROM onto my HOX+, and now it hangs at the HTC quietly brilliant screen every time. I know that all I need to do is re-lock the bootloader and use the most recent RUU, but I cannot get my computer to detect my phone to re-lock the bootloader. Is there another way to re-lock the bootloader? If not, what should I do?

I've already unlocked bootloader and rooted device, following which I realized that there is no s-off option for me on the current hboot I have (1.44 after May) and not realizing that s-off is available for the latest AT&T release with 4.3. This is my second HTC device but it is my first go at s-off. I've been doing a lot of research but keep hitting dead ends it seems. Ideally, I would like to flash back to stock recovery and unroot by flashing stock 1.26.502.15 RUU (which is what I am currently on) so I can get OTA then use rumrunner to obtain s-off. I've also looked into downgrading/upgrading the current software number from 1.26.502.15 to 1.26.502.12/3.17.502.3 so I can use revone/rumrunner but I can't confirm whether or not I can flash RUU without being s-off'ed. If anyone can provide any advise I would greatly appreciate it. I'm also not sure if I'm using the terminologies correctly or if this is even posted in the right section.. Thanks in advance!
If you are currently on .12 firmware then you should still have 1.44 HBoot. If so, all you need is REVONE to S-Off. Doing anything else will make it even more of a chore. I believe if you update after then it is S-On again unless you flash one of the other ROM's that are available. You can also run the current RUU from the HTC website to give you the 4.3 update, but you will have 1.55, thus having to use Rumrunner. To run the current RUU, I think you have to relock it too, and unlock it again, at least I did with AIO. You can run any RUU without S-Off that is compatible with ATT. If you want the Brightstar GPE RUU, then yes, you must have S-Off, and change the CID to match that version, and etc for other versions.

I'm on .15 right now but didn't know if I could update to HTC website 4.3 because I am currently unlocked and rooted and do not have s-off. When I relocked bootloader and tried OTA I had to reboot and it just kept rebooting to TWRP and would not update successfully. So I didn't think the manual update would work?
The manual update will work, but it will WIPE everything. Been there done that, not a big deal though. Went through it, re-unlocked, re-flashed CWM, and that was that. I was going to do S-Off to get the GPE RUU, but heck, with the ATT Remove Bloat script, don't see the need anymore. Got 4.3 running as smooth as it can be, no ATT bloat, and GREAT battery life.
So even though I do NOT have S-off, I can still use the HTC released update to flash onto my phone with the current modifications that I've made already (Unlock and root on JB 4.1.2, software 1.26.502.15, hboot 1.44)? I was under the impression that with S-ON you cannot flash RUU, is that not correct? In the current state, I have to just re-lock bootloader and I can install the official HTC released update? And after which all my data will be wiped, including the custom recovery (TWRP) and root, all of this will be gone? (which is fine) I just have been researching and see that bricking the device is more likely to happen if the device is S-ON and you attempt to flash.
Rumrummer actually has a version available for 1.26.502.15, I used it on Sunday successfully to gain s-off with my mom's phone.

With S-ON
As far as i have read, you can:
Update to a newer firmware. (but i don't really know if you can flash another htc one rom model, eg. flash an m7 rom into a m7att phone)
Reflash the same stock firmware via recovery (http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads)
YOU CAN NOT DOWNGRADE.
Install CWM Recovery or TWRP Recovery.
Root.

I am very sure, I still have the zip in my downloads folder, however, Rumrunner has been updated to be universal across most firmwares, this should include 1.26.502.15 because there was a version of rumrunner for it previously. Just go to rumrunner.us and follow their instructions.

Hey,
Doing some work on a friends device. He brought it in said that he bought the device a while ago and it was custom and wanted to simply return to stock so he could update to the newest firmware. Normally I can search and find the answers I need but Im stumped at the moment.
So when he brought it to me, the system was in this state:
Bootloader - UNLOCKED
S-ON
HBOOT - 1.44
Recovery - CWM
ROM - CleanRom1.0
Android Version 4.2
So I figured I would relock the bootloader and run an RUU to bring him back to stock. I used "RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_Cingular" to bring him back to stock. It actually brought the device back to 4.1.2 which is what I believe it was on when it was rooted and customized in the first place. Anyhow, I popped my ATT card in there and hit software update and it downloaded it, restarted, and when it came back up, its still on 4.1.2?? And the software update and ATT software update section both say the device is up to date.
Then I downloaded the latest stock RUU which is - "RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_Cingular_US_4.18.502.7_R10_Radio_4T.24.3218.09_10.26.1718.01L_release_356565_signed_2"
Ran that and it tells gives me and error saying that I should download the correct image file.
So my question to you is, do I need to unlock the bootloader again and gain S-OFF to run this RUU properly? I was under the impression that once the device was back to stock, I could update it again. My goal here is to get this phone on KitKat for him.
Current System State -
Bootloader - RELOCKED
S-ON
HBOOT - 1.44
Recovery - STOCK? Just get a phone with a red triangle with an ! in the middle.
ROM - Stock
Android Version - 4.1.2
Thanks in advance.
I would recommend trying to S-OFF the device first, before updating anything. The current S-OFF tools may not work after the latest updates. Try Firewater w/ the temproot method first. Once you get S-OFF you have more options to update.
I've seen a few posts lately where the latest AT&T 4.4 RUU isn't working for some people (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723785). I'm planning on trying it this weekend. If it doesn't work for me, my plan is to run the 4.3 RUU from here then install the OTA, either through "Software Updates" on the phone or install it manually.

I would think so. I never looked at HTC One Toolkit, though so don't know what it's all about. When I was researching S-OFF, Rumrunner then Firewater were the goto tools to S-OFF. Personally, I prefer not to use toolkits. Just rather figure out the commands to run myself. But if they work for you, go for it.

But I think that you do not need to be s-off to run the RUU, if you want to easily relock the bootloader use tthe HTC One 2014 (M8) All-In-One Toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699065 its the easiest way

I have my phone set up like I want it. Stable, everything works. Running 4.4.2 rooted, unlocked, twrp recovery, etc. All the apps I want. So on and so forth.
Will nandroid backup made now work after I run this ruu? Basically update the os and then recover everything the way I have it set up now?
Sorry for asking what seems, even to me, a basic beginners question.

In short...No. First off, you can't install the 4.4.3 update if you have a TWRP recovery installed. You have to have the stock recovery in order to do the update. But...for the sake of argument, you did the update and...then re-rooted and restored your nandroid. You would in effect overwrite the update and put yourself back to where you started (if that makes any sense).
My advice would be to install a custom ROM that containes the 4.4.3 update already...or put a stock recovery back on your phone and do the update. There is a nice all-in-one update you can run right off the sdcard using Hboot. I did it and it was flawless.
Either way, you'll most likely be setting up your phone again but that really shouldn't be too bad. Take some screenshots so you will remember just how you had things.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I have to ask, if you went through all that trouble, why would you ever want to run ATT software? You could have easily converted to Dev Edition and never looked back.

I can't answer for the OP, but coming from the factory unlocked version and having tried various firmwares and ROMs (including Dev), the ATT RUU is the only one that gives me true LTE speeds.
Scott, could you point me towards that update using Hboot?
scott500 said:
Scott

Ok I unlocked my loader, then i think what happend was clockwerk installed its self to the boot partition so i was stuck in a loop. I used One_M8_All-In-One_Kit_v to flash a new recovery lower version at that and now i do have a bootable recovery. Problem is now i didn't backup like a dumb arse my working OS and flashed a bad one or maybe the radio or some crap needed to be done first since it was going from 4.4.2 to 5+. In short all i have is recovery and sideload and every rom i download fails to sideload on the phone side and says sucessful on the pc cmd window. Need help with this please

Wipe data, cache, dalvik, put the appropriate ROM for your carrier/build on SD card or root of internal storage and flash. All else fails run an RUU, bring you back to 100% stock then you can properly reinstall the custom recovery of your choice.

I do the proper wipe before flashing my new rom, i'm under the AT&T HTC One M8 section i believe my phone was only @ 4.4.2 before this and here is the bootloader info is :

Tried cm-12-20150131-NIGHTLY-m8 it fails to flash and its on the sd and internal. SkyDragon M8 Sense Rom installs but doesn't boot (tried 2 versions of this rom 700mb and a 1.6gb), believe i tried a couple other roms in my phones section there's only like 9 of them there. I have the stock RUU but fails to detect the phone and fails i think it's meant to sense a turned on functional phone i don't see any kind of recovery method with the stock ruu. All i want is a rom to work with Straight talk the stock os even being unlocked and rooted with su still shoved the default APN down my throat(I even paid 2.99$ for the SQLlite and deleted all other APNs still won't let me check off a APN profile i created as default) making my signal on ST flakey and couldn't get mms to work just picture txting wasn't working. So i went full on like my old HTC One X but dived head first too fast didn't backup my old OS and didn't know firewater was gone till i was at that step of the procedure and it was too late Oh and using TWRP 2.7.1.0 it's the highest i can use before it won't boot.

Boot into fastboot, check device manager (if youre on windows) for any unknown drivers and install them if you can. Then run the RUU I posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/100-stock-4-4-4-ruu-t3017594 which would update you to 4.4.4.

Ok TY i'll try that soon as it downloads, i did finally get RUU_M8_UL_K44_SENSE60_ATT_SECURITY_Cingular_US_1.58.502.1_Radio_1.16.21331931.LA11G_20.31A.4145.02L_release_368350_signed_2
To see the phone and no progress bar shows up on the phone and the program errors out, i even did a full system wipe before i tried it again still to no avail.

You'll have to setup your APN and mms message size settings for straight talk, that should fix the text messaging problems.

No matter what message app i try i can't send pictures or large txts my mms is borked and to make matters worse when i installed this rom i must of removed the stock HTC messaging app so i can't find any settings to set the mms size limits. I'd like to figure out how to put the stock messaging app back on the phone without redoing the whole OS
Using Handcent and hangouts and i see no size limit options within the apps or anywhere in the phone settings. Looked up my phone specifically and where the option/s is supposed to be the said section of options is not even there.
If you've got a stock rom downloaded to your computer or sd card you can unzip it and look in system app folder and find the htc messaging apks. Then just install them as system apps and fix permissions.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Before i try and fix my obvious other problems does anyone know how to fix a bad flash of TWRP? I'm used to just adb command line flashing it and never had a issue before on my HTC One X, but seems it a was bad idea and it landed on boot partition and is causing glitches. is there a stock boot i can flash or what do i need?

Why do you think that partition, in particular? If you are talking about boot.img, that gets re-flashed any time your flash a ROM.
Try fastboot erase cache, and flash recovery by fastboot. If Clockwork doesn't work, try TWRP.
If you indeed have some corrupted partition(s), your best bet is to RUU. You are non-specific about what error codes, so its hard to help you troubleshoot why the RUU failed. Try a more updated RUU, such as 2.23.

Error 155 Unknown Error it says, do i need to relock the bootloader? I could never find a way to S-Off the device so idk if its that or corrupted partition like you said but all my services on my phone crash constantly. But that's better then aokp_task650_m8_kitkat_5.13.2014 that one won't even make it through setup the services crash so often the badseed rom is the only other rom i found that is actually usable. Oh my RUU is 2.0.16 how can i find the newest one for my HTC One M8?

You always need to relock the bootloader to run RUU with s-on. No exceptions.
Hopefully this will clear up your RUU problem, although the RUU number you just supplied above doesn't make any sense (doesn't correspond to any RUU for this device) Where did you find it, and its not what you referenced in Post #5 above.
CavyS already supplied a link for the "latest" AT&T RUU in Post #4 above. Although be aware, that if you are successful in running the latest RUU, it will render sunshine unable to achieve s-off. I suggest RUU to 1.58 or 2.23 (if you want s-off), as those should still be supported by sunshine.

Relocked and flashed the ruu utility version said 2.0.16.2014 and is KK 4.4, idk about sunshine as to reading about people with my phone and it not working so for a 25$ leap of faith not sure what to do about that. My phone is running perfect now in a locked down carrier branded and bloatware way lol. Thanks guys, anyway i can tell if sunshine will work on my phone?

I think that is the version of the actual installer software (.exe) not the ROM version it will install on your phone. Kitkat for AT&T would be either 1.58 or 2.23. That number will be in the actual file name of the RUU, so just look there (actually a much longer string of numbers starting with 1.58 or 2.23, but I've abbreviated them for convenience).

You install the sunshine APK, run it, and sunshine will tell you whether it can s-off the phone or not. You won't be charged unless it can successfully s-off the phone. I haven't heard of any folks here that got charged, and sunshine couldn't s-off the device.

Wow thanks for the info! Before i try this can after S-OFF/rooting/SU can i install the unlocked/developer ruu from HTC and get HTC OTA and get away from this bloated carrier branded crap? So much in the forums and i can't find a answer to this question anywhere.
