I rooted my KFHDX 7, tried a build.prop mod to get playstore working, then I got a brick. Just a grey kindle fire logo and a bootloop. I tried a factory reset from the recovery, and it made me unable to use adb.
If I RMA this unit, will amazon try to penalize me for having rooted the device?

I think they don't even analyze it to that degree.I wouldn't worry about it. It just never fully booted and you want a new one that's not defective

Thanks. I just called them to RMA.
Got a new Kindle Fire HDX as a replacement, no questions asked. They didn't even ask for the bricked one back.

that's a great service, how they collected and delivered the unit to you? did they charge anything in term on re-shipping?

My replacement was shipped next-day free of charge, and they sent me a prepaid shipping label for the bricked one (just the unit, they told me to keep the charger/cable)
Stellar service as usual

They certainly should penalize you..this was your mistake. If you don't want to assume responsibility for the risks that come with modifying your device, then don't modify your device.

Hello fellow XDA Members,
I recently found out that my transformer prime had a soft spot on the back shell and it was causing creaking, I also have a dead pixel on the front. I told myself that I can live with this and I proceeded to using the prime out of the box until it progressively got worse. Its at a point where I can no longer bear to use it without being bothered by the creaking. The pixel is still something I can deal with.
I want to return it, but there were a few problems.
-The RMA number was recieved on March 14th, today is April 9th, and I'm not sure if its too late to send it
-I unlocked the device without knowing the consequences of voiding the warranty and how badly I'd need it.
-I used the ViperBoyMod to unroot the device and then attempt to factory reset (hoping that Asus won't be able to tell that it was rooted and unlocked). After factory resetting, I am now stuck in clockworkrecoverymod and I can't get out. At this point, I just want to be able to use my prime at the least.
What should I do? Is there anything I can do? This if my first major purchase EVER and I really love my prime. I have no idea what to do. I won't mind having to pay Asus to fix the problems if the price isn't outrageous, but how do I even get the prime to work again?
PLEASE HELP
I'm not sure if this is the right thread to go to, but I really really need some help.
You will need to boot into fastboot mode and flash the stock firmware (basically a factory reset)
Hold the volume down button whilst turning it on. Some text should appear, then let it go to boot into fastboot.
Hope that helps. I'm not a tablet user myself

Check the "How to unbrick your Prime" thread.
As far as voiding the warranty, I would hope Asus would still fix the creaking/dead pixel as those are physical defects, not pertaining to software.
There is a thread here somewhere stating that someone bricked their Prime, with voided warranty, and Asus said it needed a new mainboard, and he would have to pay. He said he was aware of the voided warranty and said he would pay, but then they gave him the cost....$679 dollars!! Ridiculous
Sorry I couldn't be if more help, but do let us know what happens. Good luck bro

Thank you all so much, I have to figure out how to get it to go into fastboot right now because i don't know how i would be able to drop any files into my prime since i can't use it at all.
I'm 17, i just bought my first piece of technology two months ago with my own money, i'm not going to have 600 bucks to spare for my tablet. :/

Thank you for the insight, do you think you can link me to a naked driver and/or a stock rom?
I tried the ABD unbricking method. The setup was successful, but my Prime can't even be detected in clockworkrecoverymod, i'm guessing i'd need the driver?

its in the developement section. make sure before you install naked driver tool, to completwly remove any previous prime or android drivers. if not they will interfere with naked drivers and won't work.

I downloaded and extracted the files, but I'm not sure how I can install this. I couldn't find any directions. Another problem is that the computer makes a strange sound when i plug the tablet in, its not the usual USB sound. I can't find it in device manager to make sure I delete all the drivers.

Hi,
I ordered a Nexus 10 from the PlayStore yesterday and already got it today! I was really happy about that until i turned the Nexus on for the first time, because what i saw was this:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5FonMNRR04ZYXFnOFFTTnpkNVk
(an overlay with hardware-debuginfo on the homescreen)
the rom didn´t go through the usual firsttimeboot welcome/login-screen and even configuring a googleaccount manually didn´t work. also there is no ota-update option and there are no google-apps installed (no gmail, store, chrome...)
Looks like i got my Nexus with a Debug-Rom installed:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5FonMNRR04ZZWQ5YUgxX1JqNUk
(build-number: full_manta-userdebug 4.2)
I called the google tech-support, but all they offered me was to send in the device and wait for a new one. So now i´m waiting for the replacement device to arrive
Greetings
Tim

Yikes, Congrats on being one of the first to have it, but sucks that you can't really make use of it!
It sucks but how is the build quality, how do the materials feel and what du you think about the screen?
Did you try to find a way to get into the bootloader to factory reset?

Why not just flash the official image onto it?

Aw, you should of possibly tried dumping the ROM and having some developer take a look at it, but it does suck you didn't get to enjoy your device. Hopefully your replacement works out though
Bad to hear about your device. Good to hear that Google is shipping these the day they are ordered (or so it seems).
Where are you approximately located and where did the tablet ship from?
Also what time zone are you and what time did you order it local time?

Is it possible to send the package from Play to another EU country?
On the debug screen, can you tell us what the black level is like and if there is any backlight bleed?
I wouldve tried flashing the factory image to that thing You still can try...
The guy just wants an N10 that works. If he starts sodding about with it he would invalidate his guarantee

It wouldn't invalidate anything. All he needs to do is unlock bootloader, flash factory image which can be downloaded from the official Google servers then relock bootloader. Could have a fully working tablet in less than 15 mins.
I recently tried to install a custom ROM into the boot slot on my phone. I had installed safestrap but forgot to change Slots when I installed the new ROM. Needless to say this didn't go well. After chatting online with Samsung and not being able to fix, the tech gave me an RMA and shipping label, all paid for by Samsung. He was aware of what I had tried to do and told me they may have to charge me. My hats are off to Samsung. They fixed my phone by re-installing the original software; shipped it back to me 2nd day air; and didn't charge me anything. That is customer service like you don't find much anymore.
Thanks Again to Samsung,
I thought this might help someone else who might try to go to the provider.

A bricked phone does the same as a real brick...a paperweight. That is what the meaning of bricked is. A lot of people confuse not booting with bricked. This is either called soft-bricked or sponged (like that TV brick made of sponge). But I know you wanted to know what the OP's device was doing when he performed this procedure...just wanted to stick in the Public Service Announcement.
Just FYI to anyone else who gets 'stuck' somewhere like this and can't figure out how to fix their phone.
You can take it to best buy at the Samsung center in the middle of the store and they will do the same thing as OP, you just won't have to send it back and be without a phone. They will do it right in front of you.
So is it better to contact Samsung instead of Verizon? I also hard bricked (no power, no lights no nothing) and Verizon is sending me a replacement. Buts its a "certified like new replacement". I'd rather keep my phone if it can be fixed.
Or you can follow the tutorial I made here in the general section and fix it yourself.

That phone's a complete brick. No power, no lights, no nothing.
Tried every button combination possible including sd/sim card and charger in/out combo. No go.
Was just curious if following up with samsung for warranty made more sense than verizon. In hopes of getting a new device instead of "Certified Like New Replacement "

Phone Amazon customer service and tell them that you were using it normally then suddenly the screen went off. But only if you can live with the guilt and are definitely hard bricked. What did you do to brick it anyway if you don't mind me asking?

Unfortunately it hasn't waranty anymore...
There is a chance (just a small chance) it is not completely hard bricked. Charge it overnight, then plug it into a computer and try booting it. Also, try holding down the power button for a few minutes. These are all incredibly long shots, but worth a try.

No, don't try to fix it by some person that says they can. This tablet is very hard to recover. If you can't get it to ADB, then you won't be able to fix it, unless someone finds a exploit with fastboot.

Well, FotixChang posted a few months back that someone in China got their hands on a tool from an Amazon developer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62011763&postcount=68
I don't think you're going to get any other answer, simply because no one has gone to those lengths yet.
I was attempting to Re Root, then upgrade to Fire OS 5 dev and while doing so, I was doing the reboot after flashing the OS, G Apps, Framework and the original recovery and when I attempted to turn it on after that, Nothing! Nothing appears on the screen??
Anyone got any Ideas?
Sounds like a brick.
When I plug it in, It Makes the computer register it as some random boot loader or something, and then disconnects!
Like seriously!
=(
Help?
It comes up as:
MT65xx Preloader
That's a Bootloader for installing system images right?

Had like 2 updates 4.5.1 -> 4.5.3 -> 4.5.5
I Honestly don't plan to root this thing again due to the fact that I'm prob's selling it.
