[Q] GT-I9300 - IMEI NULL/NULL, unknown baseband and no USB interfacing - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
some days ago I got a Samsung S3 GT-I9300, it didin't charge battery or power ON at all .Now, after chancing the microUSB connector, phone is charging and working fine but , since some pads (which carry data+ and data - USB signals on motherboard) are irreparably damaged and I don't know any alternartive points, I can't interfacing it to a pc via USB (phone is not rooted). The problems is the mobile is pretty useless as is since no SIM is detected (IMEI is NULL/NULL),in the device infos I can read only:
BASEBAND UNKNOWN
ANDROID VERSION 4.1.2
KERNEL VERSION 3.0.31-1314436
BUILD VERSION JZO45K.I9300XXEMG4
What can i do?It would be possible to root it (and try some restore) without connecting it to a PC?Is JTAG the only chance?
Thanks in advance

Mobile odin is an app that acts just like odin on your phone, no need of a pc.
From there, you could flash a cwm based recovery to root it via a flashable zip.
You can try flashing new efsv2 firmwares (mg4 and up) to see if the imei gets fixed somehow.
However, since imei is null, probably a jtag is the only way to get it working again.

Hi and thanks for replying.Yes, I did consider to sue Mobile odin but, as far I know, it requires an already rooted mobile (mine has been never rooted before) so I'm in a vicious cycle.
Regarding JTAG, is there any document about?

Unable to enter downloadmode on SII HD LTE

Hello everyone
I have a SII E120L with
Kernel: 2.6.35.11-120L.EL22.1023
Baseband: E120L.EL.0843LT
with the following problems:
- I can' t connect to a network
- I can't enter download mode.
I tried:
- upgrade via Kies: get your device does not support uipgrade via Kies
firmware version: E120LKRFB05/E120LKRFB05/E120LKREL21/E120LKREL21 (LGT)
- usb dongel to enter download mode: doesn't work
- when I connect the usb cable; and do the 3 button procedure when the green battery appears, then I can enter download mode, but the screen turns blank aftyer 2 seconds. I can see in Odin that the USB port is detetected but flashing results in an error (see pic1)
- I tried adb shell reboot download. This results in the download mode, but disapears after 2 seconds.
- I tried to root the device via DooMLoRD tootlkit but this results in an error:
failed to copy 'files\Superuser.apk' to '/system/app/./Superuser.apk': Read-only file system
I'd would like to be able to
- flash new firmware
and/or
- root the phone and so I can restore an efs.img file on the sdcard.
Can someone help me please?
sry for the fast answer i didn't read correctly,
i just edited this for those who dont know what im talking about,

HERE THESE ARE STOCK ROMS, WHAT YOUR USING IS NOT EVEN FLASH ABLE VIA ODIN (I THINK)
1. DOWNLOAD OLD BOOTLOADER
2. FLASH OLD BOOT LOADER BY
1. OPEN ODIN
2. CLICK BOOTLOADER BUTTON AND CHOOSE THE RECENTLY DOWNLOADED BOOTLOADER
3. TICK PHONE BOOTLOADER UPDATE

Dude... he has an SII HD LTE. (E120L) Which has different CPU/SoC/GPU than the I9100.
I am about 95% certain I9100 firmwares will NOT WORK on his phone, and may, in fact, make his situation worse.

First off, do NOT follow that guy's advice above, unless you want to brick your phone.
Second, try reading/searching this thread. I myself did a quick perusal of it and found that someone in it mentioned that they were able to root their E120L or S by flashing Tegrak kernel. Search around for it.
@vdbergh, sorry, I noticed you already posted in that other thread.
About your issue; are you plugged into a mainboard USB port on your computer? Using a USB hub or keyboard passthrough can cause issues. Have you tried different cables? It could be a bad cable.

ctomgee, thanks for the effort to try to help me!
I am connected to the main USB port of my computer. I also changed the cable. Result is the same.
I think something is wrong with the firmware. Here's the history.
I had a perfectly good working phone. Then I wanted to flash the TL1.3. Something went wrong in that process and stupid me, I reseted the phone. Since then the phone was bricked. I tried everything but no success.
I sent the phonbe for JTAG repair. They manage to reanimate the phone, but it was impossible to get a network. All the est worked fine but I could't make phonecalls.
When I started Kies, it said to upgrade the firmware. The kernel upgrade went fine but the baseband upgrate got an error. I had the posibility to do an emergency recovery in Kies, but as soon as I start that, Kies doesn't recognice the phone.
Flashing new firmware via Odin doesn't work eiter.
The only small possibility I see is to restore a backup efs.img I found. But to do that the phone needs to be rooted. I can't do that via Odin so I tried the DooMLoRD tootlkit to root the phone. This doesn't work because I get an error that the filesystem is Read-Only.
Maybe I could root or upgrade the firmware via the recovery mode (apply update from sdcard option)?
So I'm very desperate now. I just don't know what to do anymore.

I would get the latest firmware available via CheckFUS. (if you don't know what that is, just google it) Then flash it via Odin. Let's start there.
Use gingerbreak in my signature, it doesnt even need a computer, just put it on your sd and install it, then let it do it's magic

Thanks for the tips cabloomi...
The checkFus didn't work. ( the SHV-E120L (SII HD LTE) is not in the list).
I tried the Gingerbreak, but I do't think the E120L is supported yet. It run's for ever without rooting the phone

My apologies... I didn't double check to see if the E120L was in Check FUS. Hmm. I'm not sure where you can get stock firmwares for the SHV-E120 series, unfortunately. (at least, on English language websites) Sorry dude, wish I could be of more help.

Thanks for your help ctomgee, I realy appreciate it.
I manage to root the phone by flashing the Tegrak-Kernel-Build-33-for-SHV-E120L-FB05.recovery.tar and installing the zip file in recovery mode.
I still can't connect to a network and I can't flash new firmware. All the flashing ends with an error that the NAND or amss.bin can't be writen to the phone.
Someoine has an idea what I can try now?

I need your help, I did full flash with firmware I9100XXKPA, the phone worked, now shows the imei 004999010640000, I did the flash correctly, first flashing and then the file normally I9100_EFS_I9100XXKP9_CL45181_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
but now my computer does not detect my phone, does not detect mass storage mode, flash mode only detects the phone, will my phone work again?
Why have you flashed something with EFS in the name? What instructions have you followed which told you to do this?
Did you ever flash siyah kernel or wamanlite?
LMAO @ emergency. Do a search for IMEI on this forum.....I am sure I have seen many with similar issues.

[Solved]Help Required!! Suspecting Brick :(

Hello,
I am new to the S2 forum. I have purchased the phone on Dec 04. It came with firmware version 4.0.4.
The PDA was I9100XWLPW and CSC was I9100ODDLPC.
After a week, I flashed the leaked JB firmware XXLSJ and used PhilZ cwm6 kernel to obtain root.
I was not having any problems until today.
I was using the phone normally, it had about 60% battery. Suddenly it was not waking up ( The phone was not used for about 15min ). I tried removing the battery, all button combinations but was not booting normally or into recovery. I could get into the download mode by plugging the phone to the PC. Odin failed to flash the official FW and the JB leak. I followed the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 and found out it was a corrupted NAND r/w function.
I tried doing all the steps given in the thread. Now my phone does'nt go into the download mode and does'nt show charging when plugged to a power source.
Can I recover my phone?
Please someone help me or guide me to a previous post that solves this problem!!
Edit: Samsung service has replaced the mother board!!
Doing the pit partition has resulted in my phone getting bricked!!
So people new to the forum, never do it
Hi,
You said you couldn't access download mode, but can you access CWM recovery?
If you can then, you should wipe data/factory set, wipe cache and wipe Dalvik-cahe. after that you should re-flash your ROM.
If that doesn't work, maybe you should restore your CWM/Nandroid backup of your ROM before you flashed the JB leak XXLSJ, which in this case seems to be Stock ROM. (providing that you have backed it up in the first place)

We already have plenty of topics about this why do you feel the need to create another? Your symptoms are no different to others and the answers are no different.
If you cant access download or recovery and cant power on then try a USB jig. If that doesnt work then you will need to take/send it for repair which will either be JTAG or complete mobo replacement.
Just because you create your own topic it doesnt mean answer is going to be any different.

3 100k resistors + 1k resistor in series connected between 4 and 5 pins of a male usb end when plugged will get you into download mode in case of soft bricks .

Is this true?? Should I try a JIG first before I take the phone to Samsung Service??

I had the same problem.. I could get into the download mode by:
1. Phone completely OFF state
2. Connect the USB cable to the phone and PC ( The battery charging indication has to come, atleast once )
3. Fire up ODIN
4. Get the phone into download mode ( Vol-down+home+Power ) while the phone is connected
5. The phone is now recognized by ODIN.
I could flash a kernel (tried siyah and Philz) but the phone was not booting.
While trying to flash Stock and XXLSJ, ODIN was getting failed at factoryfs.fs
After a few trys, the phone just went dead!!
Hope you can flash a firmware successfully :good:

You are misinterpreting what you read. What you're referring to is resetting the binary counter, and no it doesn't work on ICS bootloader however it still works for putting device into download mode (unless its bricked).

"Soft-brick" has absolutely no meaning, Your device is either "bricked" or it isnt. Its a made up term by n00bs when they cant get system to boot normally. Your devcie is only bricked when it wont power on or go into useable recovery+download modes. If you can simply use a jig or go directly into flashing a rom then your device is not bricked.
The "bricked" term is used far too loosely nowadays.

Ok, you try to flash OFW and don't result. and then you flash again the XXLSJ ? and the phone colaspe?

Well if a can connect with ODIN of course
A quick question!!
Is it possible that the phone can be revived (put into download mode) using a JIG if it is not starting at all for any key combinations and it is not showing charging animation when plugged into a computer or a power source??

Yes its possible which is the reason we already mentioned to try it
It all depends on the actual base issue though as to whether it will work. Its worth a try either way though, They only cost £1-2 or you can make them yourself if you have the spare parts. (Don't ask how, Use search).
I have tried the JIG, but no luck!!
I have given the phone to Samsung Service.
Hope they fix it!!
Will they use JTAG or it has to be done somewhere else in case Samsung people refuse to do it??

Need to restore to stock Firmware, but cant connect to PC

Hi all,
I have some kind of physical fault with my phone where it is not recognised when it is connected to a computer by USB. A device is acknowledged but it cannot be properly connected. The phone charges but does not mount. I have tried all trouble shooting guides and now it is been reduced to a hardware fault with the handset.
I have been running a rooted phone with Omega Rom for a long time, but I need to revert it to stock, unrooted for warranty repair.
I have two problems:
1. I cannot use ODIN as cannot connect to a PC,
2. I don't have a backup of the original firmware and ROM for my phone. I did have it, but over 18 months it has been lost (my fault I know).
So, I am looking for:
A copy of a 'Three Mobile Stock S2 ROM & Kernel'. A torrent location for all the files I need (as this is the only way I can get them onto the phone with no USB)
& Instructions for how to flash the kernel and ROM and then Unroot the phone. I think I can use Mobile Odin for this.
Is there somewhere I can look up the right firmware and Kernel for my phone?
Any advice welcome,
Cheers Guys
try to use another pc.
cheers for the advice. Same problem with all PCs. Its def a hardware issue with the Phone.
Edit: Mods.. please can you delete this thread. I have posted correctly in the troubleshooting forum now. sorry for the inconvenience.

[Q] Help Pls: Odin Fail

Hi
I just can't seem to get Odin to flash my S2. I am new to android hacking but I'm no 'tech-tard'. I have read a lot the Odin related threads on here and on google and can't seem to get it to work. I'll explain what I'm trying to do and what I have done so far.
What I want to do is to setup my old S2 for my mum, she is Vietnamese and would be great to have Vietnamese Language support so that menus, etc..are in Vietnamese! I have tried some locale apps but they're very limited. So basically I want to flash the phone with a firmware which has Vietnamese.
My phone is a UK Vodafone S2 and it's fully updated. The info on the phone is as follows:
Model Number GT-I9100
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband Version I9100BULS3
Kernel Version 3.1.31-1484249
[email protected]#3
SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 3 20:24:29
KST 2013
Build Number JZ054K.I9100XWMS2
I have installed Kies, have got MTP drivers installed and have got samsung usb drivers installed (v1.5.33.0). I have Odin 1.85, 3.07 and 3.09. One thing to note is that I have never been able to connect to Kies even though all the drivers are installed and working as I can access the phone via windows explorer.
The firmware I've been trying to flash is I9100DXLSD_I9100OLBLSD_I9100DXLS8_HOME.tar.md5 This firmware also came with SS_DL.dll (i'm not sure what I'm suppose to do with this file)
I have tried using the original S2 usb cable, S4 usb cable, HTC usb cable and Nexus 7 usb cable. I have tried the front and rear USB ports on my pc (although have yet to try every single rear usb port)
I think I have done clean installs of Kies and the USB drivers, by using YourUninstaller to remove them and clean up the registry, reboot. Reinstalling Kies and USB drivers and rebooting again.
I've turned on USB debugging on the phone. The phone is in download mode. I start up Odin as admin, plug the phone in and Odin sees the phone and I get the messages 'Added!' and COMx where x is 3, 4 or 5. In Odin 3.07 or 3.09 when loading the firmware, the firmware is confirmed ok but when flash is started it stalls at 'SetupConnection'. I've left it for about 15 mins and still stuck there. In Odin 1.85 it's similar except I eventually get a FAIL after the SetupConnection step.
I'm not sure what else I can do, apart form try another computer. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

*Try everything (you haven't done that yet) in the thread over and over and over and over until you get a successful flash. When these are recoverable (and the majority are), they're almost always fixed with perseverance.
*Give up & take your phone to a Samsung service centre (who will take a lot of your money) or a local mobile repair shop (who will charge you a bit less money) for diagnosis/repair. Obviously you're in their hands with regard to trusting them to honestly diagnose what's wrong & charge you accordingly.
The only other thing which comes to mind in this situation is an idea KeithRoss39 has bandied about recently; flash fails in this situation are sometimes caused by a malfunctioning USB board in the phone (this has become a very common fault with this phone as the time since it's initial release has increased).
Thing is, if this is indeed the case here, it's possible that your previous attempts at flashing have already corrupted the NAND, and only a motherboard replacement is fixing this. If this hasn't already happened & the board is faulty, any further flashing attempts might give you this result. But unless you know how to diagnose electronics like this, you have no way of knowing whether this is the case or not.
So, you can proceed as above, or you can stop attempting to flash right now & replace the USB board/port yourself before you attempt any further flashes. Keith has a guide in General (not stickied, there's a link in Hopper's thread) which will enable you to get this done quickly/easily/cheaply yourself if you decide to go down this path.

I don't think the USB board is faulty. It charges fine and I can access the phone via windows explorer, transferring and copying files.
You try uninstall all drivers (kies and samsung usb) ,and install again only a usb drivers (without kies).

Didn't bother to read the OP, eh ?
Download Odin v3.07 And Connect your phone to pc using download mode. ( Power + Vol. D + Home ). And in odin click pda and choose ur downloaded tar file. Just let it flash. And see. Try Splitting that .tar file to CSC, PDA, MODEM using splitfus. Check google for further help.
Hit thanks if I helped you

I'll give that a shot.
Been reading about the default recovery console. Is it possible to flash the vietnamese 4.1.2 firmware over my uk 4.1.2 firmware using ADB? From what I've ready you could transfer the firmware to a memory card and use the apply update from external storage? Is this correct or would would it have to be done via ADB sideload from the SDK?
Thanks
Can't be done with stock on the S2 to the best of my knowledge (can with some other phones).
