Seriously, the price is way too high.. 600 dollars is the most I'd pay for a tablet. How many here actually bought it?
If they release it internationally, I would. Sans the contract, of course. The pricing is not too far off the 32GB iPad 2 3G, but the Jetstream has the pen AND SD slot. If this ever comes out WiFi only, I'm sure to get it.
The only real problem I see is the contract pricing from AT&T. Thats way too high for a 2-year contract.

I'm seriously contemplating it...
$699 for a 32 gig tab is more than any other Android tab out there but considering it is expandable up to as large an SD card as you want to put in it... 32g more at this point and it comes with the pen right now which is an $80 accessory.... not that bad. Also when you compare it to the same size iPad2 it is actually less money by $30 and $130 less than the 64g iPad2. I already pay $50 a month for an unlimited aircard so downgrading and then pimping off my Android phone for additional airtime when not on wifi will take care of that.

I agree with you.... I had a Dell Streak 7 and an iPad WiFi + 3G 64GB. I sold both of them and got this tablet and I haven't looked back. I love it, just needs to be rooted. I was paying $25 for the 2GB iPad plan, changed it to the $35 3GB plan - service discount = $28 and change. so for a few bucks more a month it was worth it.
- Dan
It's only $50 more than the 32GB GT 10.1 LTE on VZW and AT&T's data plan is cheaper. The GT 3G I'm importing from the UK is actually more expensive. They all get pricy once you include a data connection.
Yep,despite all the hype that it was outrageously pricey, I didn't see a glaringly high difference than the iPad 2 in price, and I like the way it feels.
I would like to see it rooted and get a decent case for it, though....
Its a sweet tab. I bought it, love it. Price wasn't an issue as the jetstream has all the features I want. This is much better than the iPad
I wont pay that much for it, specially because I don't use the internal connection..
I like it but I'll wait for a wifi only version, or for att finally realize is to expensive and decrease the price..
It's funny to me so many sites, people, articles, etc...getting stuck on the price. Yes, it's expensive! It's almost the same price as the Xoom was, and the ipad 2 (depending on type and version of course).
I'm very impressed thus far with the quality of this tablet and what it offers for me. This is an extremely better buy (for the $ spent) then ipad, Xoom, Acer, etc in my opinion.

i wanted one but just picked up a Transformer a few minutes ago for $390 @ Best Buy. I couldn't justify the extra 300 when i could get another Transformer for almost the difference.
Jetstream
Bought, love it....not worried about the price.
Have been an IPAD user since it came out....love it but really cant do anything with it except surf the web and look at some photos.
The Jetstream is expensive but when I looked at the 64gb Ipad @ we were in the same ballpark and it lack many of the features I wanted.
PLUS, it's just like my phone. Not sure if anyone has really mentioned this advantage but it's very familiar to my rooted inspire running RC mix Kingdom 3d...
I love knowing how to use the thing out of the box...
Now, I just need to figure out how to get on my VPN at work!
You can get the Jetstream for $549 with a 2 year contract!
I ordered mine last week from AT&T. When you order the 3Gig LTE Data plan with a 2 year commitment you get the Jetstream for $549.00 before tax.

That is nice hut how you did it because I was seeing to order it online without contract and it says the prices mentioned before and it even obligate you to get a data plan?
Does the means that I could get it no contract for $699? If so, i am in.
I already bought an HTC Flyer earlier this year, which is $499 for a 16 GB, 7" tablet, plus $80 for the pen. I'm quite happy with it. If not for already owning the Flyer, I would seriously consider the Jetstream. But I'm not sure if I would get the data plan, or buy it at full retail price (and use it as a WiFi-only device).
Obviously, what you feel about the price depends a whole lot on your financial situation and personal budget. For me, spending a couple extra hundred bucks for something I really want is reasonable. I have a personal soft spot for HTC devices. For me, devices made by other manufacturers really tend to not compare to HTC's build quality. For that, I would happily pay extra. That's the philosophy I had when buying the Flyer. There are plenty of cheaper 7" tablets around. But its not necessarily a good "value" if you save some money on a tablet, but don't really like the device you bought. But of course, a lot of this depends on personal preferences, as well.
And yes, I don't even own this device, but I'm still poking around this subforum out of envy!
Hey guys I'm seriously considering purchasing it but I live in India but that can be taken care of as the US mail forwarding service I use also has a BuyForMe sub-service where they buy the product for me... but in this case since at&t requires a SSN for the compulsory cancel-anytime data plan with the no-contract offering of this tablet, I'm having a tough time getting my hands on this awesome-elegant HTC
tab. So my questions are-
1) Will the developer community at any point in time work on getting it SIM unlocked? Or is it better to wait for a version that will not be bound to AT&T?
2) If any of my dear fellow members will be so kind so as help me somehow (read: above) with getting my hands on this beauty? Can you use a friends' SSN to buy a thing for yourself?

Honestly I didnt find a fair reason to spend $350 more for the htc, plusethe GT is lighterand thin.

Besides, this thing is a beast. Super fast, both processor and network speed. You can download ICE Films right to the device in less than 5 minutes. Come on, what can be better.

Nice to be an american with AT&T LTE dataplan! In russia this thing will cost at least 2000$ (after a couple of weeks of sales) and will be available in 4-6 months...
If anyone can help me with a little explanation, on how to actually buy it without dataplan (since no commitment also includes some kind of plan) and registration, i would really appreciate.
Several things this device lacks at the moment - SIM unlock, voice calls capability and S-OFF...

While reading the announcement that Amazon released the Kindle for $150, it made me think "why the hell does my Rezound cost $400 more than my 8gb Nexus 7?" Comparing it to the 16gb Nexus 7 the only things that the Nexus doesn't have is a rear facing camera and a cell (or two cell?) radio(s) and the Nexus has better hardware!

Simple, the Nexus 7 is a kamikaze move by Google. It literally costs more to make the device than what it is being sold for. Banking on the Play Store revenue from it and building brand recognition and loyalty in the consumer.
They want to maximize the market penetration of Android through that device, in the hopes that they can deter consumers away from new Apple and Microsoft devices later this year. People are more likely to select Android devices for their next smartphone or tablet after snatching up a Nexus 7; at least that is the bet.
Kamikaze price points are uncommon, big-picture marketing moves and shouldn't necessarily be compared to other devices as such.
Cell radios, GPS (unless the Nex7 has that), 342 PPI
But that doesn't seem to add up to anywhere near $400 more. However if you look at phones like the meizu MX quad, it has a quad core s4, adreno 320 and I think it has a 720p screen and its only $310 so maybe the huge price gap is about to change

Its called selling at cost. Amazon and Google basically sell their tablets at or slightly below the cost to manufacture them for the reason stated. On the other hand HTC, Samsung, Apple and Motorolla have a huge markup on their phones, this is called profit and all companies do it. Some more than others, a 300% or 400% markup isn't that uncommon for high demand consumer goods. Verizon eats this markup (they also buy the phones at a lower wholesale cost) when they sell you a subsidized phone as they more than make it up on the plan they get you to sign to for 2 years.

It does have GPS, but others have hit the nail on the head. Not unlike Walmart, this is a loss leader due to the increased revenue streams in all of the things that go with it. They will see more revenue from books, magazines (maybe not :laugh, music, apps, etc. There is also the potential that many people will keep a tablet longer than the 18-24 months people keep phones. This limits the cash flow cell carriers so, so they have to recoup more up front.

Every phone has GPS.
Like kzoodroid said, the carriers play a huge role in pricing, and a lot of it has to do with contracts and subsidization. If HTC sold rezounds for $200 direct unlocked, and Verizon sold them for $200 with a two year contract, Verizon wouldn't have nearly as many customers locked down for several years. But effecting prices isn't the only thing the carriers do, they also build the networks that we rely on.

Most of the high end tablets have GPS for in car navigation and location services.
Also its not the hardware that makes a phone cost more, the iPhone 4S costs about $188 to make yet sold for $750 when it first came out. Thats a 300% profit for Apple. The iPad 4g costs them about $310 to make and they sold it for $629 which is only a 100% mark up. Its all about supply and demand, basic economics, there's a bigger demand for iPhones than iPads thus the larger profit margin.
Amazon and Google aren't the same as say Apple or Samsung as they aren't manufacturers, tehy don't need to make money off the device as they are more interested in selling content and advertising. They will take a loss to gain market share and sell you a **** load of content.
Let's be honest, it's so the carriers can sell "subsidized" phones and lock you into contracts.

Really, it is about the phone companies, and the subsidy. If you google 10 android devices you never heard of, they phones go for cheap overseas. Now some may argue that they fo for cheap because the manufacturer isn't well known, ect, but look at the bending problem with the HTC Evo LTe. We just get raped because of the American business model.

When a carriers set retail price it is marked up from what they pay. Not by a huge margin but 25 maybe 50 $'s. Not that your point may not be right but This is why if you look at tmo's retail price vs say a regional carrier Cincinnati bell for the same phone the retail value may be different... side note cinci bell sucks

Most of the no name phones are Chinese. As an analogy a Chinese Rolex sells for $5 at the airport in Beijing, looks like the real thing but its whats inside that counts. Most of these cheap phones use cheap Chinese knock off hardware, why pay $50 for a Qualcomm or Samsung processor when you can pay the guy on the corner $5 for a knockoff. You get what you pay for.

Some of the guts seem great particularly the miui phone but as the article itself says the build quality is crap. How many terminator movies do you think there would have been if the terminators were built out of plastic, or worse Chinese metals?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
The m2 is made at.........wait for it.................Foxconn. Do you really think that they would cook up some super inferior plastic, and sell to miui? When talking about cheap plastic, aren't all phones made out of it? Rolex isn't made in the same factory as Casio. The knockoffs aren't made by the same factory as Rolex. The same peo pole, and some of the same equipment make the galaxy s3, the iPhones, and the M2. If you read the article, this phone was thrown in at the last second. The hardware, engineering, and manufacturing is what costs so much, Not the plastic shell. So if we follow this train of thought, I would assume(I know make an arse out of me and you) that the mark up for the big Oems, with their purchasing power would be significant. They could be selling these phones with aluminum bodies, and still be making money. I know this is the name of the game, but we are getting the short end of the stick. Doesnt Huawei make Motorola phones? One is a cheap knock off, and one is a American brand. Branding is what we make fun of sheeple for. And again, the Evo lte from Sprint has multiple complaints of the phone bending, literally bending. Even when it has a case on it. It was on the front page just a few hours ago. So how is the cheap plastic different than the cheap plastic of flagship phone? Hell, I am typing on my sons nook color which was made in foxconn. Don't kid yourself, we are all using products made as cheaply as possible by arthritic overworked Chinese. We are just paying for the name. Don't get me wrong, buying quality is important. I am not saying by an Archos tablet or anything. I just think that we as a whole are charged too much on the newest fad of smartphones.

Hello fellow noters
I recently out of decided to sell my galaxy note to get the nexus 4 ( to use on simple mobile) and to my dismay the g-note i717 has a really really low resale value. From what I have seen on ebay and craigslist the average cost for a i717 is around the low 300s, which for me is bad, Very bad. If you take into account the money that paypal and ebay take for the commission of the sale you are left with 250 something. This probably has to do with the release of the note2 only 6 months later than the original note.
I'm not complaining because this is still a great device but the loss of value took me by surprise, but I will definitely think twice before getting another Samsung device close to its release date.
In conclusion my friends I would advice you that if you want a Samsung device wait 4-6 months and buy it out of contract for 1/2 the price and if you are planning on reselling it later take a deep breath before looking for the resale values.
IMHO I see the Nexus 4 as a Downgrade from the Galaxy Note 1...
NO SD CARD.
Non-Removeable Battery
Max 16 Gigs of Storage.. Max..
Smaller Screen....
But.. Enjoy
All android phones lose there value fast because theres a new better one every week. The reason something like iphone hold there value so long is because there is only 1 a yr.

I see it as a huge upgrade because
I don't need more than 16GB of storage because I don't put 50000 songs on my phone when I don't listen to them all anyways.
I don't really need to remove the battery ever, and it has better battery life than my note which is horribly awful.
It has android 4.2 official from the get go, and will get future android updates a week or so after announcement. Current note doesn't have official 4.1 yet, and 4.2 is out! And CM10 is still not stable. I'm so done waiting 6 months for an android update, especially with how awesome the changes have become.
Screen is a bit smaller yes, but it's higher PPI.
2GB of RAM is very necessary for anyone who is a power user. I constantly have to reload apps.
Quad core krait is awesome and should never lag. note1 lags often.
It doesn't have LTE which does actually suck but will be better for battery life and HSPA 42 in Canada is pretty good
And it's $350!
You could argue the Note2 is a better phone than the nexus4 and in many ways it is, but I still think getting android updates is more important for me. And the price is great.
I'll be selling my note1 for $300 next week. It's lower than I'd like but allows me to upgrade to the nexus4 for very cheap!
Sound Like They're Getting Your Money.
I"ll Keep My Note *1* And My $30.00 A Month T-Mo Plan And Jamie's ParanoidAndroid JellyBean Rom All Day Long Over A Phone That Won't Allow Me To Expand My Memory Forcing Me To "The Cloud" And Not Even Allowing Me Access To My Phone's Battery Making Me A *Slave* To A Charging Outlet...
Enjoy Your Nexus 4....
The main reason I'm switching is because even with the blaze radios my speeds are very very slow. I am going to miss the spen, and my 32 gb sd card but due to the lack of support from Sammy to their devices and the low resale value I refuse to spend 700$ on a note 2.
The reason for this post is to tell you guys to get prepared for the loss of value when you try to upgrade from the note.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't like contracts much less with att. This is mostly for people like me that buy off contract and use pre paid that the depreciation of the phone affect us. IMO signing a contract with att or Verizon is like selling your soul for a discount on a device you end up paying triple by the end.
that sucks you should have waited and sold it on CL and would have received more money...You were in to much of a hurry to sell if that you lost money...Everyone else is getting 350 min for there device....And the nexus 4 sucks...YOUR complaining the note 1 has no value??? I haven't sold it yet and I'm not complaining, I love this thing. I don't really mind if the nexus loses value because it only costs 350$, but that is another topic.
the Note does have a low resale value if you take in to account that it used to cost around 700$ and now you have to negotiate with someone to barely get half of your investment. Samsung products do devaluate quite fast because they flood the market with their phones, release new version every 6 months and they give retailers the option to sell the phone at the price they want. I got an S3 four months ago for 615 and I went to the same store today and saw it for 500. There is nothing bad with that, if you use it to your advantage and wait a while to get a great product for 2/3 of the its first retail price.

How do you figure it is triple? I have been on At&t since 1994. Not going to change. Have 5 lines with them. Always had great service. It would make no.sense not to get it subsidized for me. Going to to pay same price for service whether off or on contract.
from a galaxy far far away....
The triple is for the overpaying the service (I used to pay 120 more or less monthly on att for the past 5 years now I pay 50 everything unlimited) and if att works for you awesome, but all of this talk about subsidizing strays from the fact that the note devaluates pretty fast.
I've never seen a phone hold value...Technology is constanly upgraded and replacing other models every month..Just the way it is..Computers are worth half as less in about 3 months as well...
Ello mate!
Honestly if you want to sell your note then that's perfectly fine. You don't need to justify your decision to sell to the people on this forum because what is it to them if you sell or keep? Lol I don't know why people get butt hurt over it when it has nothing to do with them. Will they be using the phone or is it for you? Also don't let people's opinions discourage you. The nexus 4 is awesome and I want to get one as well....note is great but i have decided it's just too big for me. I am a very active person and it is actually getting in the way rather than simplifying my life. Can't go running with it. Can't take it to the gym..nope! Can't walk around the gym with the note in my gym shorts lol. I don't want to shell out additional money for another mp3 player.
I agree with you on the resale value. I put mine up on Craigslist for 430 and got so many low ball offers it's ridiculous. I am just going to keep it now ... meh.
I am buying a Note II this week, but only because my corp plan lets me it it for $200. The Spousal Unit would never allow a $750 + tax phone purchase in this house.
If I get $300 for the Note I then I am happy, since it lets me purchase the next upgrade for next to nothing.
That said, I am thinking of holding on to the Note I until December when the official JB comes out. The Note I does lag on stock rom a bit (never tried the custom JB ones), and I want to be able to sell it to non-XDA folks with full S-pen support. I am thinking that the Note I stock experience will be much better in December, and that if I show it to a couple of people I know they will be happier with it then. If an offer comes by before then, I'll let it go at that time I suppose.
My brother just sold his Note for $300 to a guy in Sudbury. He was a bit disappointed as well.
I told him it's a niche phone with low demand in a small market.

How do you figure it is triple? I have been on At&t since 1994. Not going to change. Have 5 lines with them. Always had great service. It would make no.sense not to get it subsidized for me. Going to to pay same price for service whether off or on contract.

The triple is for the overpaying the service (I used to pay 120 more or less monthly on att for the past 5 years now I pay 50 everything unlimited) and if att works for you awesome, but all of this talk about subsidizing strays from the fact that the note devaluates pretty fast.

Read the important part in red which you missed. If you have ONE LINE, non-contract makes sense in some cases. If you have more than one, nope.
As for the OP's whinge, who cares, everything that isn't a "durable product" devalues fast, think about how many THOUSANDS your car devalues the second it's "used".

that sucks you should have waited and sold it on CL and would have received more money...You were in to much of a hurry to sell if that you lost money...Everyone else is getting 350 min for there device....And the nexus 4 sucks...YOUR complaining the note 1 has no value??? Good luck selling that Lg phone.. lmao...you'll get 100 dollars for that LG ...You make no sense...Note 2 crushes that toy!

100% true! the nexus 4 will be worth nothing as Google drops its price, and I sold one of my skyrockets for 350 on Craig's list so I'd sell my note 1 for $400 up, and I'm in Fl too. Its all about the condition of the phone. If your note is mint like mine you'll sell it for $400 cause people will rather pay $400 for perfect condition than $300 for some old scratched up junk. In 6 mo. Your $350 nexus will be worth $199 or less cause its used. How's that for devaluation.

Well that and Apple sells all their hardware at a high margin keeping the prices high at retail.

I probably would just because I like having a cell connection on my tablet. That's the main reason I kept my 4G Xoom even after I bought a Nexus 10. I realize I could tether a WiFi device to my phone at will, but my problems are:
a) It's a pain to constantly turn it on and off all the time.
b) A phone antenna isn't nearly as big as a tablet antenna, so a tablet will pick up a much stronger signal than a phone will when you're out and about.
c) When I do tether, I always forget about it and leave it on when I don't need it, then I go to check my phone after 2 hours and find an almost-dead battery.
With the Verizon "share everything" plans, adding a tablet to my existing data plan costs me $10/mo, which is chump change. I'd replace my 4G Xoom and WiFi Nexus 10 with one LTE Nexus 10 in a heartbeat if I could.
i probably would like also but if its the case of a new nexus 10 with LTE it will probably cost big money extra and this its not justify ... only if they bring something new to the hardware more in the same package maybe.
1 - lower the price of original nexus 10
2 - put LTE on a new nexus 10 at the curent price
3 - put 4gb ram and 64gb on the new nexus 10 .
4 - i will buy

Why not just enable tethering on your phone and connect the tablet to it like the phone was any other wifi network.
And no I wouldnt buy it.

Because some of us (like me) find that to be a pain in the @$$. Plus, tablets have much better antennas than phones do, and thus can pull a stronger signal down in weaker areas. I can't tell you how many times my Galaxy Nexus will have 1 bar of service and my Xoom will have 3 or 4. Makes a difference in speed. Plus, WiFi tethering kills a phone's battery, especially you're like me and forget to turn it off. I'll go to check my phone 2 hours later and see an almost dead battery.
Plus, for myself, it's nice to be able to turn the wifi hotspot on on my tablet, throw it my glove compartment on a long trip and have an LTE hotspot in the car. That big tablet battery will last all day as an LTE hotspot.
NOPE. Not unless it had a significant change in processor. Say what you will about how GREAT this Exynos 5 Dualcore is on PAPER, but it still underperforms against the Exynos 4412 quadcore in the Note 10.1 & Note 8.0. So, if it had the Exynos 5 Octacore, or the Tegra 4, then I would consider it, but not with the same hardware, which struggles with some apps on the high resolution display + an added radio LTE stack...No thank you.

Fair points. I haven't seen benchmarks but it would make sense that Samsung would want the Note 10.1 and Note 8.0 to outperform the Nexus 10 considering they're much higher in price. I personally have no speed issues with my Nexus 10, but your point about powering an LTE radio is well taken.
Any LTE N10 would probably have a new processor anyway since, if I understand the underlying tech correctly, Exynos can only handle dualband LTE. I believe that's why the Galaxy S4 LTE variants in the US all use Snapdragon processors rather than Exynos. The only LTE variant I can think of that use Exynos processors is the South Korea variant, and that's dualband.
The N10 doesn't sell well enough for Google to even consider a LTE model.

I'm starting to think Google doesn't want their devices to sell. One of the biggest oversights is the absolute lack of availability of the cheaper models in stores. You can only get the 16GB on the play store. Why the hell would they do this? Do they really think someone considering an iPad would jump on the unproven Nexus 10 at the same price point? You want to move units, Google? Start stocking this thing in retail locations like Best Buy and Target.
It's ridiculous and embarrassing.

Well it worked for the Nexus 7. The 8 GB model was never available at retail (that I'm aware of, anyway). It still sold like hotcakes.

There was also a lot more buzz about it since it was so cheap. Even at 250 it was a bargain. The 10 is in competition with the iPad. The 7 arguably had no rival at that price point with the features it came with.

No, but when someone is considering a $499 iPad, they're also looking across the shelf at the $499 Nexus 10. Wouldn't it be a little more enticing to see the $399 Nexus 10 as well?

No I dont think it matters in the slightest. If someone is at walmart and is browsing for a tablet they wont care about either one because they obviously dont know a single thing about either and will buy the $149 tablet. Someone who does know already knows which they want.
No more Nexus devices for me for awhile after this tablet. Just sold my Nexus 10 and am waiting on the new iPad. Don't miss it in the slightest frankly.

True, but supposedly the new Exynos 5 will support 23 different LTE bands. This is the Octa-core I am talking about. That would be pretty great, nearly a world LTE device. About time if you ask me. Even the Dev One & S4 will support multiple LTE bands. Next we just need that Samsung 5G with 100+Gbps down speed (so you can burn through your 3Gb data plan in 3 hundredths of a second) & simultaneous dual band wireless-ac/n.
Alright, I have an iPhone 5 on Sprint with a family plan. My mum is tired of the bill jumping up for every little thing and paying over $200 for it just to have them shut it off a week later, so I'm going to be moving to tmobile. I have two Photon 4g's, a Nexus 4, an iPhone 4(cracked), and iPhone 5. Out of all my phones they are in near perfect condition except the 4, obviously. I want the HTC One; bad. But I wanted the Nexus 4 bad when I read about that too and now I can't even use it since I'm not on Tmobile. I recently got a new job and things are looking up for me money wise so I'm a bit more comfortable paying my own bills now, but I don't want to go to Tmo just to be paying $100 again. I know about the plan prices and the 'renting' a phone basically, but I plan to pay that all off ASAP.
I need help with two things;
1. Can someone explain the tmobile plans more thoroughly? I know companies always have something not true or stretched and I'm hearing all over commercials Tmo has unlimited everything for $50, but on the website I'm seeing the tag next to it with 500MB of data. Are the commercials not true?
2. Would anyone here recommend trading in some of my already android phones to help pay off the One and it's down payment? The only phone I want to keep is the i5, and maybe my Nexus 4. I don't see the reason to keep two android devices when one is way better than the other, but I want the nexus because I've been reading it's like a hacker/modder/rooter, whatever, play world. Because it's original google then it's just great for rooting and modding. Any input from you all here? It's usually where i come to for all my android needs.

1. The $50 "Unlimited" everything gives you unlimited text, talk and 500 MB of "High speed" (4g/LTE/3g depending on your coverage). After you've hit that point they throttle data to 2G "Edge" speeds until the end of the month. They call it unlimited because they won't ever charge you for going over your "high speed" data. For $10 more you can add 2 more GB of high speed data (2.5 GB total) or for $20 more you can get actual unlimited "high speed" data (it might be $20 and $30 more, I'm not sure about single plans, I'm on a family plan and I know those are the rates to upgrade the lines for my family plan).
2. Instead of trading in your phones you could sell them on swappa. You'll definitely get more money through swappa then just trading in at T-Mobile. While it's true the Nexus 4 probably has the most development of any phone out right now, all the roms are a variation of stock android (CyanogenMod, AOKP, Paranoid Android, etc.), which are all awesome, but now that the Google Play Edition of the HTC One is out, you could get the best of both worlds (Sense 5 is really nice also) on an HTC One. The stock Android roms are already very functional and should only get better now that the devs have their hands on the GPE roms.
Having used both, I prefer the Nexus 4, mainly because I like the way it felt in hand more than the HTC One (ALL phones should put their power button on the side IMO). But the HTC One screen and speakers are everything you've heard about them and more, and stock Sense 5 is sooo smooth, and the custom Roms and Kernels add some nice features and help improve the battery life.
Just my $0.02

I'd look into the Play edition a little more if you're considering it for T-Mobile, I've read that the hardware isn't built to spec on a per carrier basis, and is lacking the radios for the T-Mobile LTE spectrum.

Wait, so is there a difference between the tmobile version and the google play edition? Also, after a small amount of reading can't I just flash the GPE over to my HTC One from any carrier and it would be the same thing?

^^^^^Correct it is missing the AWS band needed to utilize T-Mobile's 4G. Sorry I meant that now that the GPE is out, converting a T-Mobile HTC One to a GPE should be possible in the near future if OP still wanted to enjoy stock Android.
