[Q] Help with rooting my HTC DX (going mad) - HTC Desire X

I have been trying for about a month now to root my HTC DX and have been successful in unlocking bootloader and installing a custom recovery (CWM) but when it comes to installing Superuser zip through CWM and rebooting the superuser app is present but when I verify with root checker it says 'Sorry! This device does not have proper root access.' I've read threads on the forums with people having the same problems and resolving them but it doesn't work for me . Can anyone help me please? It's driving me mad lol.

Try using TWRP if your device is not rooted before rebooting your phone from TWRP it will give you a msg "phone not rooted install superuser" just swipe to install and it might work...

Also be sure to use the right recovery version for hboot...

Be sure you're using lastest version which is 1.80 at this moment.

Yes, I've tried with v1.80 but it still isn't rooted. I'm beginning to think I'll never get my DX rooted :crying:

If the @GtrCraft 's file doesn't work, just flash a custom ROM with root included (i.e. this ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330229)... and don't forget to make a nandroid backup before you flash anything.

messed up phone

My sister asked me to root her phone and install a custom rom. I have the same virgin mobile optimus v. I rooted with gingerbreak and restarted, and root check said we had root. I used rom tools to install the rom, but now the phone is stuck at the virgin mobile logo and doesn't go any further. I tried going into the recovery but just get a lighted screen.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

which is suppose the country code is ASEABK @@
I think what the problem is...is that I flashed a old clockwork recovery that doesn't have the new VM670 display drivers...in sense the kernel is for the older VM's...anyway to update the recovery without getting into recovery or consol?

Update to 1.18.410.1

Hey,
the official update (vers. 1.18.410.1) failed with my rooted HDX because the SD-card can't be mounted.
Whats the solution for that, is it possible to update it with CWM?
Thanks!

Hi, I got it working by flashing back to stock kernel which you can find on the last page of this treath: [REQUIRED]*Desire X Stock recovery.IMG. I also deleted the Superuser app but don't know if it was necessary.
Once update I flashed everything back as it was with CWM and Superuser. Hope it works for you
hey
thanks for answering so fast!
I gave it a try and flashed the original recovery but update still failed.
How can I delete the superuser-app? I can't delete or uninstall it.

Use a root file manager to delete the SuperUser app, and if you want to unroot then delete the su bunaru from system/bin.

Well, I didn't get it. No idea why updating failed.
Seems that I have to wait for a Custom-Rom.

Help update
Hi there.
I root the phone Desire X - branded firmware from T-Mobile PL.
/ v. 1.14.118.1 / showed me that it is a v. 1.18.118.1 update, downloaded but can not install. Shows verification error.
I did flash the firmware to the version v. 1.14.401.1 in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941250
[DEVS ONLY] Stock, rooted, deodexed ROMs.
Now the phone does not show at all that is update to version 1.18.401.1.
How do I install this update?

I had the same problem. Solution? Flash the stock recovery (for me this one worked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35031493&postcount=25), and recheck for update in [Ustawienia->Informacje->Aktualizacje oprogramowania]. After installing stock recovery it updated fine (don't be scared when it reboots way too many times ). Then I reflashed CWM, rooted it again and it's business as usual.

And this from T-Mobile does not install.
Maybe someone loads the update 1.18.401.1?

Me either, except maybe a little faster, a lot of other people that upgraded ota instead of flashing the 1.18 RUU have had wifi problems. If you do update, use the 1.18 ruu, if your phone is european :fingers-crossed:

I have a non-rooted HDX and it also fails - it's looking for SD card, then shows a ? mark, reboot and no update.
Anyone have ideas what's going on with this update?

if you are having wifi problem after updating with RUU, downgrade to 1.14 and then try software update from the device itself. dont use RUU
i m not responsible if you download the wrong RUU and brick your device. this is just info

Root/custom roms questions

Hello,
Some time ago I tried to root and install a custom rom for my lg l9 p760(v20i) but I failed; error was: "security error" at boot.
Now, bad ideas comes to my mind again and I want to repeat the process.
My question is pretty simple: in order to have a rooted phone with a custom CM rom, what steps should I follow, and most important in what order: root, busybox, unlock bootloader and then install cm recovery?
Thanks.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2221102 There u go. Secutiry error is shown when u try to install a custom rom on a locked bootloader. I think the correct order would be
1 Install Fastboot drivers
2 Unlock bootloader
3 Root and then u can install busybox and cwm

Thank you for you answer.
So this is where i was wrong: last time I just rooted the phone,then using an app from Play Store I installed CWM then got that annoying "security error";
Thanks again and have a great day!
I'm gonna guess you used Rom Manager to install CWM.
From what I've read that's a big no-no on our phones.

Can then I use flashify to flash the TWRP recovery image
And be good to install roms ect?
Just want to make sure.

Yeah Sunshine still works on all devices as far as I know. As far as Flashify...I'm not so sure as sometimes you can't get SuperSU to work after Sunshine does it and the only way to root your device is to flash the supersu zip which would require a recovery. Soo I recommend doing the fastboot method of flashing the recovery but you can try Flashify method if you want. Roms...A-Okay!

Got the same problem seems like the root mode in the dev options is not working. I flashed SuperSu and it's recognised by Root checker. If TWRP asks you to root the device before booting, do NOT swipe to install

Of course I would! But I'm still on 20150220 as I was planning to skip the current version so I did not patch the newest boot.img yet. If there is demand I can still do it though.
