[Q] Questions about compatibility with phones - Themer General Discussion

I know themer has a select number of phones that it works with, but I really would like to use it. I have the Lg Optimus G on at&t which is basically the Nexus 4 with capacative buttons. I am also running on Carbon rom and I am wondering if there is a way I can modify the build.prop so that I can get themer to work? Or if there is an easier work around that would be great. Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

Turn on the on screen keys in Carbon reboot the phone and it'll work flawlessly.

Best rom to turn phone into a kids game/movie phone?

Well i was wondering...i now have the s3 so my fascinate has become my 5 year old phone...it's not connected to the network...just used wifi and wireless tether from my phone...right now i have cm7.2 on it...i was curious i if anyone knows any good roms for this purpose ? Id like to be able to lock or change what the softkeys do so he stood getting into random menus...being he can't read yet and messes with stuff...i know some roms on the s3 can remap the keys...don't want touchwiz...just too much unneeded stuff on it...well i think you get the point of what I'm trying to do (and yes i know of the diff child lock apps n whatnot but if rather just be able to do it with the phone being is strictly set up for him) i haven't really kept up with roms for the phone since the last rom i had on it for myself was aokp m6...any suggestions would be appreciated...there's no Google apps used except playstore (which i keep frozen)

Personally I would suggest one of the new cm10 builds, they're smooth and responsive and I feel like there are less settings for him to get into rshr than on aokp. I also like to pair my ROMs with devil kernel for better performance but it isn't necessary
I suggest you check out this rom

It's wifi only with phone functions disabled, so I think it might be right up your alley

G3 First impressions / questions

I was torn as to which phone to select. I have been a long time HTC user (coming from M7)...I selected the G3, still been less than a day, the screen looks amazing, I might miss the forward facing speakers though. Also, I'm still getting used to the extra screen real estate. It makes my home pages look barren and unorganized. I am looking forward to day 2 tomorrow to get a true full day of use to test out the battery. Anyone who's had more experience with LG phones, how temperamental are they with rooting? I don't think I will but HTC's were the easiest to mess around with without worrying about bricking. Also, I'm slightly annoyed that if I select Hangouts as my default messaging app I can't use QSlide for messaging. Hopefully they can fix that in a later update, I don't see why that should be an issue. I am also looking forward to trying out Wifi calling, didn't know that was even an option on Sprint
I wish i could use hangouts in qslide. I still use stock messaging for sms because it's looks better.

No more slide aside from the g2. No more talk and surf the net at the same time from the s3. Spark and talk don't work at the same time. Not sure about lte and talk yet. I miss the variety of features from the g2. Other than those mentioned, The phone has been great.

I've finally found something that I don't care for much on the g3...I don't think I'm a big fan of the volume slider in the drop down notification bar. I would much rather have a brightness control there or at least the ability to change it to something else. Minor inconvenience?
Coming from the s4 the thing i notice is the quality of the phones construction. The s4 was a premium phone of course but even still it felt cheap, the g3 while not a unibody and very light it to me still seems like a higher end phone. This is the first LG phone ive had usually stick to htc or samsung but i was blown away by the screen. The Android UI feel closer to stock which i like. I hated touchwiz it just looked like a little kids phone. anyway glad to be using the G3 cant wait for root to remove the bloat i think i will stick with a bloat removed stock rom honestly
Yea one thing I'm not really liking is the volume slider in the drop down, I agree I'd rather have a brightness slider.
Anyone who is coming from the G2, how hard is it to root LG phones? Coming from HTC you could basically do anything to those without bricking, when I briefly was using a Samsung I found it much easier to brick to the point of no return. I'm hoping LG's are like HTC's in that regard
First things first
The G3 is the first smart phone I've ever used. I'm finding my way around but I'm having some ?s. Where's the adjustable keyboard I see on all the commercials? When I go to change the one I have now there's an LG keyboard, but it won't let me select it. Any help will be appreciated!
I was in the same debate in getting the M8 or G3. I was coming from using iPhone 4s. And so far I'm very happy with my G3. The screen is amazing. And I like LG UI way better than S5 touchwiz. The trick to make the home screen run smooth is to put all the apps in folders.

I think it's possible to get a brightness slider, but I haven't played with it enough yet to tell you how:

Will I be happy with the GPe?

I ordered the Z Ultra GPe from Expansys for 334.99 w/ free shipping. It's being delivered tomorrow. I didn't do much research on the difference between the GPe and the Sony version. From what I'm seeing now, most people are saying the Sony version is the way to go. I've been using a Nexus 4 since it was released and I've been completely happy with it. I'm not really into rooting/flashing/custom ROMs anymore. The white c6806 is 349.99 with a free SD card and shipping at B&H Photo. I thought about ordering that and just sending the GPe back to Expansys without ever opening it. Am I really going to be missing much from the Sony version aside from the color (I would have preferred white but I'll have a case on it anyway)? I know there are some Sony apps and such that people find useful on the Sony version. Is that about it?
If you are happy with the nexus then you will like the gpe
You will be happy when the GPE gets the KitKat Lollipop before the Xperia series. Well have to wait for Z3, Z2 and Z1 to get em then the Ultra. I use to have the nexus 5 and I got so use to quick updates and I assume you would have the same itch.
I'm also a recently new GPE owner coming from the N4. Same deal on Expansys, btw :good:
I've been quite happy with it, overall. Definitely no regrets, but as a self-proclaimed flashaholic, I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of development on the GPE. Then again, I've always been a big fan of AOSP. Nexus, GPE, or otherwise - I always find myself using a stock-ish ROM. That said, if you liked stock Android on the Nexus 4, you'll feel right at home with the GPE. If you're not intending to root or flash custom ROMs, the GPE is probably the better choice in your case, IMO.

I've had it two days now and I'm really happy with it. Its exactly what I wanted. A bigger, faster nexus 4 with more storage. Great deal too. I'm glad I didn't second guess myself. I'm not really into flashing much anymore and I love stock android so it worked out.

Rooting is a pretty simple chore, which would allow the use of xposed modules. If you haven't looked into them you may be surprised at the amount of customization it will allow.

I'm not familiar with xposed. I haven't rooted anything since my Nexus One. What general benefits am I going to gain if you don't mind answering?

There are tons of "modules" that work with xposed "framework", some that I use are.
1. Advanced power menu- gives reboot options plus screenshot from power button.
2. Xperia/AOSP NAVBAR BUTTONS- allows up to four soft buttons with custom icons and ability to reorder them.
3.NlpUnbounce- sets longer interval for location services scanning.
4.Gravity Box- change battery icon and use center clock with day of week ( has way more functions but that's what I use)
Others I have tried are.
1. Tabletkat - gives tablet UI.
2. Xblast-tweaks and customizing.
That doesn't even scratch the surface of what is available.

Edit... Have a look at the index sticky thread at top of forum for an idea of what it has to offer.
Edit #2.... From my experience uninstalled framework reverts everything to stock allowing you to take ota updates then reinstalling after rooting will bring back your setup.
I have the non-gpe version and am always thinking that it could perform a little faster if i could just turn ART (android run time) on for better compiled applications. However the sony version just doesnt have that option. I personally dont care about ANY of the custom Sony apps except their keyboard with number keys row and found the camera apps fun overlays very amusing but stopped using them.. im very close to flashing the device and took stock of what i will be losing and for me it would be those two things. I just want to get rid of some of the lag that im experiencing or perhaps i need to wait for android L to arrive.
The xperia KB can be installed I believe or I use the hacker's KB

Fastest rom for this phone

Hello all,
I have a HTC One X + and it is running like crap even after a factory restore.
First off I am only going to use this phone as a extra GPS and other aviation pilot related apps while flying. I have a LG G3 now and this HTC was my previous phone so it wont be used for making calls or any other day to day phone related functions.
So anyway before I got my LG G3 this phone was starting to get sluggish as all phones do so today I decided to do the factory restore on it and just use it for what I described but for some reason now the touch screen is not working for crap. It doesnt scroll well at all. Other than that it seems to be fine.
So anyway I was thinking of flashing it with a different slimmed down OS. What would you suggest? This may or may not even fix the touch screen scrolling issue which I never had before I retired it for the G3.
Currently it's on the AT&T 4.2.2
Cheers,
Chris
Well it seems to be working fine now. Maybe it was doing a lot of downloading and updating in the background and I just didnt notice because it's working like new now.
Still would like to know though what is the most light weight ROM for this phone is. Something thats stipped down and just fast.
Cheers,
Chris

Problems with cm12.1 for lg v10 T-Mobile

Code:
I am having a couple of issues with CyanogenMod 12.1 for lg v10 T-Mobile. Here is the list,
Screen brightness not controllable
The screen extends to the second screen and I can't see part of notification bar because the two front cameras are blocking it.
I would like to know if there is a way to fix these issues or if they will be fixed in a future version of CyanogenMod. Also when I lock the screen the screen backlight is still on but there is noting visible on the screen when locked. I tryed to post this on CyanogenMod forms but I cant post a new thread for some reason on the lg v10 development form.

cyanogenmod is a work in progress. for screen brightness look under display settings. The screen staying on is a known problem. look for the unofficial 3/16 build which doesnt have this issue.
Why would you want Cyanogen Mod on your device anyways? Isn't it basically a naked OS? (Kind of like a Nexus)
Seems it would make sense to simply pick up a Nexus device, or strip the system from LG-related s/w you don't want and carry the V10 in a stripped form.
With xposed and the other many options available, cyanogen has just lost it's luster to me on a device that wasn't intended to have the pure Google UI - no reason to pay that kind of money for a device then break things on it and make it inconvenient to use. idk, to each their own, though.
Cyanogen is a great idea... And solid option for many. I just like my phone to work, however, and not be obnoxious to use.

First thing I hate CM I want you to know that before I start this.
Second thing CM is NOTHING like AOSP. I run a pure AOSP on my g3 and they are worlds a part. Pure AOSP has no options at all. It is a Nexus. As far as why someone wants to run CM, it was all that was around. I detest stock lg. I buy the phone for the hardware not a hideous LG UI. Now I do understand some people like stock and I respect that. Very soon their will be several options.

I flashed the 3/16 build and everything works except when I play 3d games the in game audio sounds weird is there any way to fix this? This only happens on 3d games like subway surf, sonic dash, ect.
