[Q] Software updates don't work. - HTC Droid DNA

Hey everybody, so i wile back I had a unlocked rooted Droid dna. I kinda messed it up and decided i wanted to get out of the android power user life. So i did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017525. Ever since then my phone has been fine. But, as some of you may known, they have put out a OTA update that I would really care to have. But, when I check for updates nothing happens. Ive tried rebooting my phone, doing the google services framework thing, even installing the RUU again! But nothing works. I really want to get out of this rooting life, and I want to update. Any droid dna owners (or other smart people) know whats wrong. THANKS!

Assuming its the v1 RUU you need to update via data connection to 2.04 then to 2.06 then to 2.07 etc.... as HTC pulled the updates from 1+ from wif/data now its only data.

ok

Alright in that case just follow the RUU instructions.

Have you checked for the OTA while on Verizon's network? Not WiFi, but Verizon 3G/4G data? If you are on another network (att, tmo, etc) or WiFi, usually you will not see an update.

You'll have to lock your bootloader to update, and you'll lose root, but you just have to re-root in Amon Ra, no biggie, but if your current firmware is fine, I don't see any point upgrading, because they're pretty much the same
Thanks for all your help bud.. I'm really getting into this rooting and roming thing.. BTW...if the RUU you referred to earlier was the .10 one, then your current firmware is up to date.

The amon ra root method no longer works with ICS. I'm actually trying to get my root back as of now and still no luck with many methods.

I guess I'm not understanding the problems people are having. If you have AmonRa installed, why couldn't you just install a rooted rom?

I used SuperSu and it worked fine, I rooted on .10 ICS leak with Hassoon (prob misspelled it sry) AIO toolkit just hit Root button once you have Amon installed which it can do as well two buttons and you should have root, superRS will flash in recovery its already preinstalled in toolkit.

I'm not getting it either. Seems like people are going to an awful lot of trouble to go from pretty decent ICS ROMs back to basically the same thing - os version, kernel, firmware, radios. What's so great about the official release compared to the latest leaks?

Cannot downgrade EVO 4G LTE after installing OTA update.

I keep getting ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER ERROR from the RUU. What do I do? I really need root.
Did you try to do the htc dev unlock? With that, and some of the other posts around here, you can get root....but you won't be able to get S-Off. It's not a huge problem -- you can still do most of what you want, but if you have hboot 1.15 or higher, you have to wait until they find an exploit.
There is no current way to downgrade.

Stop it with memes. The new OTA update from HTC that contains HBOOT 1.19 can't downgrade the EVO 4G LTE back to anything else.

By downgrade I mean downgrade the default stock ROM if you want to call it that. If you thought Android then, well...
The only relevant downgrade would be an H-boot so that you can gain S-OFF. At this time it is not possible. Thats what everyone thought you were talking about doing.
You can always just flash a ROM on the old base if thats what you wanted to do.

I have no clue where this is going.
If you are on the new H-boot and want to root just use HTC DEV. Then you can put on a custom recovery and do as you please

[Q] Post DNA OTA bootloader unlock

Morning all! Sorry this is my first post, so I had to put in in general here, but I just got my DNA yesterday and I was unable to stop the OTA, I have tried to use the SuperCID unlock and whenever I try to do anything with ADB i get "Access is denied." I assume the OTA has cause the current version 2 of the SuperCID to not work? Or am I just making a newb mistake and not doing something right? Thanks for any feedback!

You must have had an unlocked bootloader or something because this method does not work for people who took the OTA and weren't unlocked beforehand...
The thread name is kind if misleading. Most people on OTA have locked bootloaders and we can't unlock or root or s-off.

You would have had to unlocked your bootloader before you followed the guide you posted.
And I just realized that on top of this being misleading, it is pointless. You don't have to be on a pre ota rom to get s off. If you are unlocked then you can s off on the ota.

My DNA was not rooted or had a prior unlocked bootloader at the time I took the OTA and I managed to unlock my bootloader, root then S-off and load Newt's Sense 5 ROM. We don't mean to be Debbie Downers, but there are just a few very knowledgeable devs working on getting the bootloader unlocked and have so far not managed to do that. What you claim to have done is what pretty much everybody is talking about on this forum and there's a bounty for it too.If you have anything showing you went from the latest 2.xx ota to fully unlocked we'd all give you hero status.

I'm not looking for hero status or any fanfare. I know what I did and wanted to help so I posted the steps that I followed to get unlocked because I didn't do anything special. I posted the method and the only way to prove it would be to get another DNA and do it again because posting a screenshot of my device now means nothing
If the steps I took helped others then I'm happy and if it doesn't then I'm sorry for unintentionally misleading some.
Before bashing or accusing me of trying to mislead I would suggest trying the steps I took because I have no reason to lie and didn't claim to do some masterful wizardry of hacking either

You are wrong about something here. You CANNOT unlock the bootloader of a phone that is on the ota and hasn't previously been unlocked. That is why there is a 500 dollar bounty for the person who finds the exploit that allows us to do that.

The step you listed is to unlock the bootloader. You provided no other info besides that. It is simply not possible to do that if you are on 2.04. If you did somehow manage to do that then explain it and go collect your 500 bucks.

Root with OTA 2.04.605.2 710 RD

I have a DNA, which I use as my second phone. I was messing around with it and I somehow re-locked the bootloader and turned S-On on. I still have root access, verified with root checker from Play Store. I can't remember exactly what I did when I got the phone... I had S-Off, unlocked bootloader, and root and was running Cryo for Droid v1.1.3. I tried updating to v1.2 and wifi wouldn't enable. I tried re-flashing the radio, but it wouldn't flash. That's when I started messing with it. As of right now, I am on 2.04xxx, running Cryo v.1.2 with root access, but bootloader is locked and S-On. Also, there is no custom recovery. No matter if I try installing TWRP or CWM. Whenever I try to boot into recovery red triangle with red exclamation point. If anyone knows a way to get me back on track I'd greatly appreciate it. Hopefully, they come out with 2.04xxx RUU.

Thanks... It is weird. I got the bootloader re-unlocked and S-Off. I had been trying the same things and then yesterday I tried unlocking and S-Off and it worked. I haven't used my DNA is a couple of months. I don't know much about the DNA, my usual phone is a GSIII, which to me is a bit easier to mod. I'll be donating...
