Cannot downgrade EVO 4G LTE after installing OTA update. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I keep getting ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER ERROR from the RUU. What do I do? I really need root.

Did you try to do the htc dev unlock? With that, and some of the other posts around here, you can get root....but you won't be able to get S-Off. It's not a huge problem -- you can still do most of what you want, but if you have hboot 1.15 or higher, you have to wait until they find an exploit.
There is no current way to downgrade.

Stop it with memes. The new OTA update from HTC that contains HBOOT 1.19 can't downgrade the EVO 4G LTE back to anything else.
The RUU gives you ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER ERROR when you try to downgrade.

Yes, and what we're saying is you've never been able to downgrade.

By downgrade I mean downgrade the default stock ROM if you want to call it that. If you thought Android then, well...

The only relevant downgrade would be an H-boot so that you can gain S-OFF. At this time it is not possible. Thats what everyone thought you were talking about doing.
You can always just flash a ROM on the old base if thats what you wanted to do.

Would I still get root? How do I install a ROM without TWRP then?

I have no clue where this is going.
If you are on the new H-boot and want to root just use HTC DEV. Then you can put on a custom recovery and do as you please

Bootloader, right? I can't seem to find the EVO 4G LTE in the Supported Devices dropdown box.

I tried IE9 as well but it did the same thing.

[Q] How to update radio if rooted from HTC unlock method?

One big concern for those that have rooted with the HTC unlock method:
How do we update the radio in the future? If you look at gu1dry's radio thread he says you must be s off to update (via bootloader) and we don't get s off with this method. Can someone ease my mind?
I guess I have the same question for updating wimax as well.
Wrong thread to ask in? Try in q and a. But regardless yes you need to be s off in order to flash a new radio.

So when the next OTA/radio update is out you be able to take it and remain unlocked but most likely unrooted with a good chance of root being broken?

It will most likely unroot it, but you'll still be able to root it exactly the same way you did when you first unlocked it. By either flashing a rom that is already rooted or flashing the superuser.zip

HTC releases the RUU, Sprint releases the OTA files. I know the RUUs used to be posted on HTC's website on each phone's page but I don't know if they do that anymore. Most likely a dev will post it as soon as it gets released.
While we wait, what happened to your phone? Maybe someone here can help.

To flash a custom ROM: You cannot downgrade the hboot yet as you already know, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to go the more primitive root and use HTC's unlock method, flash TWRP (which has HTC Dumlock workaround for the boot.img) and go from there.
Completely Stock: All other RUUs will fail. You can checkout the stock OTA file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045839 You should be able to flash this file from the stock recovery by renaming to update.zip but please check with a developer first since I have not actually tried this myself! To install the stock recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045935 and choose the 3rd firmware option (it will write ALL new firmware) including hboot, recovery, kernel, etc.)

Basically, if you ever have an issue with your phone and doing a reset doesn't help you....you can run this file through your computer and it will reinstall everything as if you never opened the box....its more useful for people that flash custom Roms due to the fact that sometimes flashes go horribly wrong and ONLY option is to have this file to restore phone. Hope that explains it a bit. In your case good to have but if you plan on staying completely stock you prompt won't need it.

Interesting. Yes, updating with the RUU (or the JB update in general) will cause you to lose root, but all you have to do is dev unlock your phone and root it once again. There have been no reports here thus far of anybody losing S-off by upgrading to the newest Hboot, as long as they were S-off prior to upgrading. Also, there have been no reports of any issues upgrading the radio or other firmware, assuming somebody didn't flash the wrong file in their bootloader and update everything, including their Hboot. I don't know what's being said over on other forums, but I keep up pretty well on here. The only known issue has to do with system write issues for users who are S-on with Hboot 2.09, and there is already a fix for that. It even appears as though Dirty Racun may work to gain S-off with the newest Hboot

Hey everybody, so i wile back I had a unlocked rooted Droid dna. I kinda messed it up and decided i wanted to get out of the android power user life. So i did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017525. Ever since then my phone has been fine. Ive tried rebooting my phone, doing the google services framework thing, even installing the RUU again! But nothing works. I really want to get out of this rooting life, and I want to update. Alright in that case just follow the RUU instructions.
Have you checked for the OTA while on Verizon's network? Not WiFi, but Verizon 3G/4G data? If you are on another network (att, tmo, etc) or WiFi, usually you will not see an update.
