Changing from aosp rom to stock touchwiz - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, so right now im on slimbean 4.3 rom and was considering returning to stock 4.3 (mk6) jellybean update. I've read around the threads that there are rom which are prerooted and deodexed and can be flashed in cwm, but im not so sure about the modem part, as ive never changed my modem since purchasing the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569180
Can anyone advice me about this and what should i do? When i check my about phone it is i9300XXEMA5
Also if i flash a custom stock rom like this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541054
Do I have to change the modem?

You need to read the faqs and guides .
You need to read the custom rom description regarding modems some include a modem .
The rom you linked to says almost at the top of its introduction .
<<<<<(this flashes the MK6 modem(EFS V2) and the new version does not include an option to backup.) >>>>
It flashes a new modem .

so if it gives several options for modems in aroma installer, which one should i choose?

For Android OS, we call firmwares ROMs.
Maybe you should try to install a custom ROM that fits you best, and with more features.
First you have to root your phone using these links from my sig:
Follow the instructions from Intratech's post, and use the insecure kernel from the InsecureXWKDD link
XWKDD Insecure & Odin3: http://tinyurl.com/InsecureXWKDD
Then choose a ROM from this selection of ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253665
I recommend MIUI, Criskelo ROM, Lite'ning ROM, CheckROM or SensatioN ROM.

Advice On Upgrading from ICS to JB with Omega ROM

Hi,
Apologies in advance for what is probably a very obvious question for those that know. I'm two days into my rooting experience and currently I have rooted my SG3 and then also installed the Omega v13 ROM. I haven't done anything with the kernel up to now.
My question is - when the official JB release happens (hopefully tomorrow) and I want to upgrade to it and then also install the new Omega v16 ROM, do I:
a) wipe everything, install the Samsung Official JB firmware and then install the Omega ROM again on top of it, OR
b) do I just wipe everything and install the Omega ROM directly.
I'm a little unsure of the difference between the firmware and the ROM (unless they're the same thing). Does the Omega ROM contain the actual firmware or is this a separate thing?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam.

Rom is usually the firmware but custom rom may not include the modem .
Uses existing modem .
You will need to root your phone before installing Omega or any custom rom .
Best is to wait for Omega build after the full release of JB then just flash that over current .
JB will not be released to all and sundry on day one it will start the rollout on day one and gradually work its way eventually to all phones .

Thanks jje. As I have already rooted and then installed a custom ROM over the official firmware, I thought it might be "better/cleaner" to do it from fresh. I have not great battery performance and still some redraw issues so I thought starting from scratch might be advisable. I would rather not though - I haven't' tried a restore from Titanium yet and not certain if it will recreate all my apps/widgets including their positions and data.
I'll wait for the release and then figure it out.
Adam.
Agree once JB is released and i decide on a rom it will be with a total wipe .
TB will create all apps but not layouts or folders organization .
A workaround is to install rom boot to recovery mounts and storage and format data .
Then go to your ICS Nandriod backup and advance restore data only will bring back layouts .
But you may find some apps FC or fail to open .

<What can i do the get read of this anoying problem >
You need to read the basic faqs and guides .
Many custom roms do-not contain a modem
Basics read first.

your imei and serial number okay after flashing cm roms?

[Q] complete noob but need answers xD

ok so i bought my international version galaxy s3 from ebay. it was already rooted and modified. i know cause i
cant receive updates. unless i use triangle away. obviously i still dont get updates because im on a custom rom which i have no idea what custom rom it is. rom manager doesnt tell me. rom manager says
that my custom rom isnt setup to recieve updates.
im on 4.1.2 JB. what im wanting to know is. can i flash straight to cyanogenmod 10.2 from my custom rom?
and will flashing to 10.2 keep me on 4.1.2 JB but with the cyan tweaks/mods or will it be 4.3?
also what is the best method to save my imei from any dramas. i also dont want to lose my network which ive seen people have this problem also.
is there anyway for me to find out what custom rom im using? i know that i have clockworkmod 6 installed.
im using 19300XXELLA on what i beleive is a custom kernel smp but cant be sure.
im sure this post has not made much sense but hope you can undersyand what km asking
i also looked at the sticky threads. they gave answers but i felt they werent the answers i needed specifically for me. except the imei question
First you can know your custom ROM most probably from about device info...
Second you can flash cm 10.2 or cm11 without any hassles with imei but if you want any Samsung based custom rom you should flash a newer modem... Search for them there are flashable zips available...
Before doing this, backup your efs by one of many apps on play store like ktool or samsung tool..
Cm10.2 means it is 4.3 android and cm11 will be 4.4.2..
And don't expect features of samsung firmware in those roms.. I mean better camera, swipe for screen shot and other features.. They are exclusive for samsung based roms...
For cm11 you must update your recovery to latest search for it flash then via Odin
Or cwm flashable zips are also available...

How to flash latest CM, phone is on a really old version of wanamlite rom

I've got an old i9100 here with a very old version of wanamlite rom on it. I want to flash the latest CM and firmwares and get rid of all the storage issues that show up when I try to install new apps. Flashing seems to be quite different on this phone than on Nexus devices which I am used to. So some guidance would be really great! I've already read some guides, but I am still confused by how recovery and kernels are unified, as well as I might have to flash pit and ril files.

I'm not familiar with wanamlite rom, so i don't know what android version it has.
but if this rom is jellybean or kitkat, you're good to go and follow the guide made by saber to increase system partition and flash marshmallow or nogut roms.
if your rom is bellow android 4.1.2, then you have to update to the latest stock rom to update the bootloader.
Here is the guide:

Thank you! The Android version of the ROM is 4.1.2, so I guess I should be good.
If you want latest stable ROM, use Optimized CM13.
