Hi -
Does anyone use the Citrix Receiver app on their Note 10.1? I have to use it for work, and I was wondering if people were successful in using the S-pen to edit documents, etc. It seems like the S-pen is great for the native Samsung apps, but using it as an input method, especially in citrix where the keyboard takes up half the screen, making it really hard to scroll and such.
Thanks!
I use citrix receiver on my note 10.1, but have never really tried to use the spen with it because my work applications don't call for it. My work is just mainly typing and clicking.
But it does work well.

Thanks for the reply. Do you run it with the native resolution, or do you have it set to some sort of magnification? Right now my screen is so tiny that it is hard to select things, such as to manipulate the cursor to select an email, etc., even if I am using the stylus. I tried changing the magnification settings in the Citrix Receiver app, but it doesn't seem to change anything when I connect to my remote desktop - everything is the teeny tiny size.
Also, how do you emulate the "shift" button to select more than one thing (e.g., deleting multiple items in outlook)?
I use the native resolution. I just pinch to zoom. I don't know how yours is set up, but mine has "apps" for the different programs I need to get into and the size can vary in the apps but I can just zoom in. I don't use it for outlook since my job also gives me a blackberry. Yes a blackberry lol

Don't knock the blackberry! I have a blackberry for work too (opted for the new Q10 over the iphone 5, insane, right? But I need that physical keyboard to deal with the volume of emails I have)
So when I log in using the Citrix receiver application, the "app" IS my desktop - there are no separate apps available for Word, Outlook, etc. Maybe that's the difference. I did change my setting to "optimize for high resolution" but all that does is give me a giant version of my desktop that I have to scroll around with my fingers.
Haha I just can't deal with blackberry. At this point in life I am just as fast with onscreen keyboard as the physical blackberry keyboard. We had the opportunity to get some S3's, but my boss opted for blackberry because he is an ios fanboy.
Back on topic, yeah mine seems to be set up a bit different with separate apps for the different programs we use.

I use Citrix for work. I have the screen set to static so the mouse point moves with my finger and then tap to click. This way I can pan the screen. As for the stylus, I use it sparingly. Mainly if I want to you the pen for touch instead of my finger, then I disable the onscreen mouse.
Are you using Xenapp or a web interface? I can log in, but I can't open any apps. The blue progress bar runs across the top, but nothing else. Wondering if it's A Note 10.1 2014 issue.

I use Xenapps. There used to be a beta version of receiver available to try. You might want to give that a whirl.

First off, how can I get rid of the little blue tab on the side with the icon shortcuts. I never use any of them. It would be great to be able to add my own app shortcuts to it but I could not figure out how. I am guessing that these are limited to only ones that are able to do the split screen feature.
Another question is, is there a program that can allow you to use your mouse and keyboard from your PC to control the phone, in a way that I have my phone next to the computer monitor, drag my mouse across over to the side, and the cursor appears on the android screen? Similar to Synergy (PC program)?
Is there a way to keep track of how much data you use over the 4g network? I don't want to go over my 2gigs a month.
I saw on a website that had "top 50 features of the Note2" that it has a feature where you can make the camera track your eyes, so that when you lay in bed, the screen does not rotate. Anyone know about this?
Also, I am pretty new to Android as this is my first smart phone ever. Is there a way to make google reader show pictures from blog artices, instead of having one app for slickdeals (iSlick) or another app for reading lifehacker articles? (Lifehacker unofficial)? I think I would use google reader if it showed pictures.
Has anyone started using Utter!? Seems like a great idea but I did not get very far with exploring it.
Sorry this is a big mess of random questions. Thank you for any input.
PS ~ I tried searching the android forum for how to control with pc mouse and keyboard but was unable to find something. I found AirDroid but i don't think that is what I am looking for.

Don't think this is possible the way you describe. They do offer a dock that allows you to plug in a USB keyboard/mouse to control the phone, but you can't have one mouse control both without unplugging it from one and plugging it in to the other.

You can't track JUST 4G usage, but you can track mobile data usage. Go in to Settings and then Data usage. You can even set an alert to warn you when you get close, and a limit that will disable mobile data after so much usage.

This is also in Settings, though under Display. What you're looking for is Smart Rotation. Smart Stay is also there and that keeps the screen on while you look at it.

Google Currents allows you to do news/feed reading. Not sure how it works, but it's listed as an option. Get it in the Play Store.
Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!
I saw a video on YouTube where the guy uses the computer keyboard on his note 2 but without a mouse. It is the guy who makes those daily note 2 videos.

Thanks, i'll try them out tonight
As others have mentioned, there are a handful of apps. In my experience they are all garbage though. Off the top of my head there is:
Air Display
Screen Slider
iDisplay
And each of them has some combination of the following issues:
500+ ms lag
Disables Aero/DirectX
Apps freeze when moved to tablet (expecially browsers)
Not compatible with 64 bit OSs
Can't set size or relative position of the tablet display
I have heard of good results from setting up VNC to stream a second monitor to an Android device, but I've yet to try it. If you find a good solution to setting up your Nexus as a second monitor, let us know. I'd love to use my Nexus and an extra touch monitor for my PC.

I've always found TeamViewer hard to use for anything substantial due the lag and slow loading times of everything on my screen - of course that could just be my slow connection.

Splashtop works....kinda, have to drop the display from Sharp to Smooth to get rid of annoying green line across the screen.
Like eall so far, there is considerable lag. A cabled solution would be great for my needs for now.

Can you give step-by-step instructions on how to do that? I've tried creating another display but it doesn't work.
Since the first day I got my phone my stock browser has talked. It's says "loading page" and "page loaded" and tells you when you press on anything. I don't have any of the talk back stuff on or any of the gesture stuff. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows how to fix it. I have been using chrome in the mean time. Thanks in advance!

There is no setting for that on the Note 3. My stock browser isn't even in my app tray anymore for some reason. And it's not disabled or anything. Weird.

I can tell you from personal experience that the only fix for this for me was to exchange it for a new one. (Or you could delete SecBrowser if rooted). Oh, man that was annoying! Returned it, got a new one, no problems with "the talking browser" since.

This sounds like either accessibility or car mode.. Did you check those 2
Neither are active. And I've cut both on then off. If it was either it would happen more places than just the internet browser.

Do you have any folders on your home screen? If so open one of them.. If not make one and open it. . I bet it talks.. folder open folder closed. .
Nothing talks except for the browser. That's why I posted this thread. Just weird that none of the gestures or extra features are enabled but I get talking in the stock browser.
Scribbled From My Note 3
Did you try a folder.. There was in the note 2 and other Samsung devices (i think including the s4l a bug with the accessability where only the browser changing home screens and opening and closing folders would talk when they were not suppose to.
It usually pops up when some programs are installed that need some part of accessability to run. . I know some program that controls the flashing light is one but there are others.
I have plenty of folders and have switched home screens a few hundred times since I got the phone. Nothing talks except the browser.

I did the same (used Chrome) but I figured, hell, I paid for it so I should be able to use it. But nothing was outta place. Went in to accessibility and unchecked everything. Debugged the browser and found nothing outta place there either. The only option I could think of was to replace it. Or maybe flashing the stock tar might clear it up.

I just tested it here and it does no longer do it on folders or home screen but it does do it on stock browser. Do you have my fitness pal or light flow installed. .
Do you have any apps listed under settings device access ability under the section called services. .
Nope nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing that messes with accessibility.
Scribbled From My Note 3
Actually I have a Pebble and that could be messing with the accessibility features....
Scribbled From My Note 3
It has nothing to do with accessibility it just uses some of the routines or something. . It is not going to be something out if the ordinary..

Really?!?! I didn't waste your time cherylbaker. Everything you asked me to try I tried and it didn't help. There is nothing more I can do besides not use the stock browser. I'm sorry that you don't like that answer, but it's the only choice I have. I was looking for a solution from someone who had the same experience but the only person with the same issue exchanged his unit for a new one.
Scribbled From My Note 3
You have installed something that uses accessibility sevices. If you look under settings, accessibility, services you will see "talk back". Anything besides talk back is something you installed. Unfortunately this is a bug so if you would like to keep those apps working correctly just use another browser. The apps that I have installed that cause the issue are Pebble watch app and talking caller id. Those services need access to all my apps the reason they are listed in accessibility. So I just use other browsers.

I've just received the Logitech keyboard/cover and noticed that the hotkeys for applications run the Android defaults, whether or not you've set another default. For example, I use the Habit Browser and if I click a link in a document it "always" uses the Habit browser, but if I use the Internet hotkey it opens the default Android browser.
Any ideas?

External keyboard helper pro. Use this and set a tasker profile using bluetooth state and secure setting plugin to make it auto switch to it as the input method when your keyboard connects. It allows you to completely configure your keyboard. It will take a little bit to figure out but its worth it.

@Scotlac. I'm pretty sure that's not what the op was referring to. He is looking for the feature they advertised at Google I/O where each tab would show up as its own card in the multitasking view. As near as I can tell, that feature has not yet come to fruition, and hopefully is just around the corner.
Ahh, I was not aware of that feature. Thanks Wolf!
I believe it is only enabled for phones.
On a tablet you have direct access to all open tabs in chrome anyway. I think they tested it and thought that it doesnt make things faster or easier.
Let's say you have opened up 10 pages. You would see 10 added entries to your recent apps mixed with all other apps you would take some time to find a specific chrome tab. Just hitting the one chrome instance you see in the current implementatiton and then in chrome select the correct tab seems easier to me. On a phone where you can not see the tabs in chrome without a click it's differernt.
But yes, they should have made it an option.
I read somewhere on g+ that is a setting that had to be enabled.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Nope, I don't think its enabled for phones either. I have yet to see it with any build I've tried on my Nexus 5.
The chrome build on my tablet will will give you the option if you set the LCD density to the same as the nexus 5. I'm not a fan of this feature, but I'm sure someone can hack chrome to make this work. Just needs to be decompiled and forced to phone mode. With DPI like this tablet is unusable(well, usable just horrible looking) I just wanted to see if the functionality was in chrome and it is. I don't have time to mess with it right now, maybe in the future if no one gets on it.
(This is on my nexus 9)
yea i guess its not enabled for tablets. i have it on my nexus 5 running latest lollipop preview and its amazing. i think they should have it integrated into tablets AND still let you see the tabs one BOTH tablets and phones. I loved the system of pulling down in chrome to see tabs, and i think this new system could accompany it nicely. i dont see why they got rid of one for the other, and tablets are just stuck with old fashion tabs
