RIP Note 3 (With pics!) - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 General

Well, thank god for insurance. My (soon to be ex now) wife read a private text thread between me and my mother and decided to punt my phone into the ground numerous times. Luckily I had my Otterbox on it..
The entire chassis is warped and she even bent the S-Pen

dang... some crazy beating happened there... (i always have pin lock screen, for obvious reasons)

holy bageebus.
yes thank god for insurance.
happy holidays. lol.

Wow thanks for sharing with us and good luck with the replacement and split up. I've been in similar situations where you'll feel a lot better looking back on it rather than keep living it

On the bright side of things you can sell it on swappa and claim it to be the note 4 curved edition

Relax everyone, the laptop is okay.

Wow, glad you are getting rid of her

First day with a case, and broke my screen!

So today at work I pulled my phone out of my back pocket and this is what I saw! Very heart breaking, especially for the first day in the new Ebay case! At least I have the warranty with Best Buy so they will ship it off and fix it! Dropping it off Saturday and should have it back in 5-7 days! Anyone got a loaner phone they wanna let me use in the mean time? Just kidding!
Backpocket? Did you sit on it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
It was my back but I was standing and then squatted, then I remembered it in my pocket so I pulled it out! That's when I saw this. I'm thinking I must have bumped into something before I squatted, that looks like a direct hit crack.
Hopefully your butt didn't do that. Unless you have been watching buns of steel. Then I guess you would know it was working...
Sent from my mobile typewriter.
You must had bumped into something, hard. The screen is pretty durable (at least in the iPhone 4S vs Samsung Galaxy S II Drop test).
Advice: Keep your phone in or left, or right, pocket at all times. Keep the screen facing inward (towards you).
Good thing you got that warranty with Best Buy! For me, I use not a case nor have a good "warranty". I just never break my products! (Went for a year with an unprotected iPhone 4 and it still looks like new - just a few scratches which you cannot see when the screen is on!)
At least you did not break the digitizer! Damn that must have been a nasty hit because Gorilla Glass is supposed to be damned near breakable like that, I would have thought if anything the digitizer would have broke before the gorilla glass. Even my Captivate when I broke the screen, the gorilla glass in that phone looks brand new just the digitizer spider cracked lol
Cheers,
Charlie

Same here.. except one day I dropped my iPhone 4 after having it for 1 year and 3 month.. screen shattered after that drop.. the phone was like new still >.<.. but one drop.. game over..
Warranty is just too expensive to buy.. for me at least.

[Q] Dust Under My Screen, The Last Straw

I wish I didn't have such a perfectionist mind and be crazy about the smallest imperfections, but really HTC, you need to get your **** together. I upgraded to the Evo3D because I had replaced my Evo4G screen 2 times already because of issues with dust and had my hopes very high that by upgrading to the 3D I might finally be able to avoid the problem. Little did I know, I was mistaken. I lurked for many days for some insight into the whole dust situation before even buying the Evo3D and could only find rare occurences so I figured I should be fine. 2 Months later I have one spec of dust. I said okay, its small enough that maybe I can let this one go, but then today I noticed 5 pieces total. This is a quality control issue and I have tried going to the repair center for sprint and they said it was not covered under the TEP plan. What bull****, and HTC wont fix it either. I'm in no mood to fight this issue with them again that this is a manufacturing defect so I decided I'm going to leave the HTC scene. I really regret to even resort to this but I'm very heavily contemplating an iPhone 4, mainly because of the build quality, and the fact that the screens are all on top of one another, there are no open spaces between any of the sheets of glass, therefore there is no room for dust to squeeze its way in there.
If anyone has any way to get the dust out before I jump ship, or rip my head off, please give me some insight. I really love the android community, and it's been very good to me. Thanks in advance.

I apologize that there was no question mark but I bolded this because I was asking for insight. If thats alright with you of course.
Let me rephrase this in the form of a question, Alex. (I actually am interested in the answer because I can't read my clock on sunny days due to the dust.)

I only had this problem with my HERO. Got it replaced for free, no questions asked. Had the EVO 3D since launch-day. Not a single speck of dust under my screen. I'm not sure how people are doing this, but I'm beginning to think it's the way people treat their phones. The HERO I had was bought from a friend. I take VERY good care of all my phones, and never have these problems. I don't even use a case on my phone. At most, a matte screen protector.
But in all honesty, you probably should've sprung for the TEP plan. I recommend EVERYONE getting it. And if you get an iPhone, you CAN'T get it through Sprint. You'll have to buy Apple One Care, which I think turns out to be more expensive (I may be wrong).

Lifted it out ... after getting it super hot to make the adhesive gooey, right? I've actually built an EVO 3D from parts laying around, and other parts I ordered online. I don't recommend anyone else do this, it was brutal, but it works 100%.
The other big lesson I learned from ordering on-line: While the website may say: "Brand new parts" they may arrive and you find they are brand new, but did not actually pass quality standards in the factory! The 3D I built has tiny, hair-line scratches in the digitizer! Most time you never notice, but "Brand new parts" doesn't actually give you the full story.
Sorry, ranting here.
Just my $.02

My phone has a dust spray on the bottom right corner. Been there since I bought. I'm living with it now since it's out of the way and doesn't usually bother me. But I agree that it's terrible that the phone was shipped this way. I do have Sprint TEP plan but been too lazy to go in.
I've had two HTC phones and do really like them but I'm moving to a Samsung next time for sure. Probably replace this before I buy a new one then sell it. HTC phones are beginning to all look too much the same. Time to move on.
I have the cheap $4 (not including the damage loss) TEP but:
1) I don't want to lose my 1.4 bootloader and get a lousy reman unit.
2) since a bunch of updates (thanks, freeza), it has stopped rebooting at random, which was the only reason I got TEP in the first place
I fear that blowing air in the left side (headphone jack) might move the forest (presently in the upper right) downward, not just rightward. I'm tempted to cancel the TEP and just break it open for a proper cleaning.
I think this was a qc issue. My old evo was 100% clean under the screen. This 3d, after fewer months in the same environment) looks like a freaking dryer vent.

Note FLAWS!

I'm about to go trade my black note for a white one. But I've been hearing about some manufacturing defects... Such as cracks and black screen?
Can someone explain to me so I can inspect the new note while I'm at the store?

The white one is Stunning!
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
I agree with everybody else. I also have a white Note, and it's just fine. No cracls, no "black crush" (stupid name if you ask me). This is why I hate those stupid threads by people who examine their phones with a microscope, then create threads when they find the most miniscule flaws, which otherwise wouldn't be seen. Go ahead and pull the trigger on the white version.
BTW, if you look hard enough, youbwill always find a tiny imperfection. Five million Notes have shipped, and only fraction of them have had problems. No more than any other phone on the market.

These "problems" are real. I have both on my phone, but I could really care less about either. Don't let it stop you from getting a white one as it has nothing to do with the color.

IMHO the people that are getting cracks in their screens are the people that think they are taking good care of their phones but in reality are not taking care of them. I had my first cell in the late 90s and broke my antenna taking it out of my pocket so I learned never ever to put my cell back in my pocket under any circumstances. Pants do get looser and tighter as you sit and stand and pressure is put on the screen which is probably causing these cracks. Get the white note just take care of it and you will be fine. No pockets! No bags! Don't sleep with it! Don't set it near your drink! Dont put in the glove compartment so it will rattle around! Don't lay on your dash while driving!

These cracks aren't in the screens...
You don't need to be so anal with your phone... It's not a cheap toy these are built solid. First two weeks with my phone I had it completely naked and pocketed it. now I have a leather pouch and glas.t screen protector. Just remember that it'll cost you 800 for a new one and I'm sure you won't break it.

The only issue with mine is a small alien that lives under my battery feeding off my phones power. That explains the crappy battery life.

Your right they are not cheap toys but they sometimes get cracked screens if they are dropped from pocket level onto asphalt, but they are pretty well built. I'm not anal about my phone but I know no matter what if it breaks I either get my retired device of shell out $750 for a new one so I am very cautious. People can do what they want with their phones I was just giving advice based on my experience. I don't even take my phone outta the house, too much could happen and its really not that important to always have my cell with me. I don't have a text plan so I don't need it for texting and I would never walk/drive and text/talk. Nobody knows what is causing the so called flaws on the Notes but if mine get a scratch, chip or crack in it I will know exactly how it happened and won't have to sit and wonder whether its a defect or if I did it. I can keep a cell for 18 month till I upgrade and it still looks new but I too have scratched and even shattered phones so it happens to all of us. All I was sayin was if you know exactly where your phone is at all times it might not get a scratch or get broke.

Mobile phones are exactly that, *mobile* phones. 99% of the people with cell phones use them when they are mobile. If you never take your's out of the house why spend so much for a cell plan? Just get a land line.

Cracks appearing on back case.

I noticed yesterday small cracks appearing round the edges of the openings in the white back of my S3. I've emailed Samsung to see what they will do about it but thought i'd see if anyone has had issues like this. I dont take the cover off my phone very often and i'd say it's been off less than 10 times since i've owned it (July).

My brother's S3 had that and he barely removed it since he is using a case. Like once a month. It has been an issue since the beginning. You have to buy a new back cover if you can't live with that. Or a case.
Be aware these are some of the weakest parts of the case, if when removing the case you bend it back to far this may occurr. What is too far?, when that was
To open the case you should only pull it back ebnough to get your fingle nails under it and then pull it back and off without bending any of it, this is possible, i've had mine off numerous times this way with no damage at all.
New backs cost naff all though, just replace it fella.

Samsung will probably claim user damage and take no responsibility anyway so hit ebay and get a new one.
Take the chance and show the iSheep what customization is all about - I've even seen a carbon fibre one for less than $10. A regular plastic one is even cheaper and there are all kinds of covers, plenty to choose from.
I have a crack like that too. And the white around the Samsung letters have also started flaking off.

Buy one from ebay, you can buy metal/poly-carbonate and other sexy backs, or a very cheap regular one.
my white:silly: iphone 3gs developed similar cracks all by its self , i think something is wrong with the quality cuz my 3 weeks old galaxy s3 doesnt have any yet hopefully not in the future
Thanks for the responses, but I think a lot of people are missing the point. The back case is not fit for purpose. Yes I could easily go onto eBay and buy a new one and there are loads on there to choose from. As for iSheep, I've owned 4 iPhones previously and if I had this issue with any of them whilst still in warranty, Apple would have replaced my handset with out much hassle.
If Samsung ever get back to my support query and suggest that the cracks are caused by myself i'll be really disappointed. People can complain all they want about Apple products but their customer service is second to none when devices are still in warranty.
Flame away......

Actually, from someone who worked at an applecare call center, I will disagree. We were actually instructed to always try to make it the user's fault if possible. It's easier than one would think. That and gut customers saying they're only covered for 1 year when you actually have 2 under Europe's laws. Only when the customer insist A LOT and starts citing laws, were we allowed to escalate the call to a second tier operator who'll still try but most likely end up complying with the customer's request for that 2nd year.
I could go on forever with the **** they have us pull on the customers (some are real asshats that actually deserve though)
Not saying Samsung's any better, I actually don't know how Samsung's service is (hell, I'm actually not expecting it to be any better) but trust me, Apple is not there for the customer, that I know. If you experienced better with Apple, I'll actually be glad since I wasn't cool with their behavior by any means.
Let us know how it turns out please
I bent mine in half and all the paint fractured on it, thought they were really flexible, I guess not
I few months ago i posted a thread with this same issue...
well, a few weeks later, I managed to fix my problem with a "non-cientific" method... to say at least... but it worked for me, don't know why... I removed the back cover... plugged the usb cable on the phone and put the back cover back to the phone with the usb cable plugged in... checked to see if it was properly fitted ... and believe it or not.. the crack on back case was gone...
give it a try... maybe works for you too

Oh yuck! I am soooo paranoid I am going to break mine, I just got it tonight and the protector is coming in the mail. I might leave it at home and just keep using the Droid 4 in the mean time until it comes in.
Have you seen if there are any "phone fix it" shops that can replace the glass that is cracked? (I am assuming it is the glass that is cracked and not the screen itself, right?) My coworker dropped his Rezound and shattered the glass and got it replaced for a little over $100. Granted, the Rezound is a smaller phone, but it might not be much more. It will be cheaper than a new phone, that's for sure. Also, my IT manager just cracked his GS3 and replaced the glass himself with a heatgun and only spent $27 for the new glass and the tools needed, if you think you can do it yourself.
Unfortunately, I cracked mine as well. Landed face flat on a concrete floor as I was pulling it out. I didn't have my case on like a moron, so it's my own fault. Because I don't have insurance I was planning on calling Samsung to see how much the repair would cost, but I'm worried about the price because of the Wacom digitizer. It'd also make repair from local shops harder to do. What do you guys think?
I just contacted Samsung for a friend a couple weeks ago and the screen repair with parts and labor was just over 190 bucks. You can get a quote using the Samsung online chat, just have your emei number ready because they use that to generate the quote.
Edit: He already got his phone back and it appears they just gave him a new one. I think he was only without it like 10 days or so.
I know how you feel. Mine fell out of my purse when I got out of the car. I had on a wallet style case that leaves the top and bottom exposed. It flew open when it dropped. The chrome ring has a huge ding and screen crack on the bottom right. Everything works fine. It's just painful emotionally.
Here's what I found. Radio Shack can repair them. It has to be sent out. $70.00 to $90.00 for the glass, the chrome would be a little extra. Takes a couple weeks. They offer a lifetime warranty against defects (not droppage).
Another local cell phone company can do it on site. You pay a deposit, they order the parts and get them within 2 days, $290.00.
I didn't check with Samsung, but from this thread, it looks like it's worth checking with them also.

Just get on eBay you can get the glass and digitizer for around $200. Then its easy to fix from there. Also I suggest an urban armor gear case, I dropped mine from about chest level it bounced and landed face down I thought for sure it broke. Picked it up the case has a few scuffs but the phone is perfect plus this case isn't as bulky as otter box.

If you have always carried insurance with verizon, i would ask to speak with a supervisor. I have had insurance with vzw since the blackberry days. When i purchased a thunderbolt off contract a couple of years ago, i activated it in the store and the rep took my insurance off my line. A few months later the phone fell and broke. I was told i did not have insurance and i made mention that i have always carried insurance. The end result was they added insurance back on my line and vzw sent me a replacement phone.
