Hey guy,
I got a replacement Note 2 from Verizon this morning. Turned it on, was going through the initial activation process when I noticed it was already downloading the latest update. I hurried through the process to get to the home screen, opened up the play store and downloaded/installed Titanium Backup. Went to freeze the SDM 1.0 process, but that didn't help. So my question is....
How can I stop this update from finishing?
It's almost done downloading and I've turned the phone off for now. It looks to be around 85-90% done downloading.
My only other thought would be to flash a rom to it while I still can and hope that stops it. But I don't know if I have the time to get the rom file on there before it decided to install the OTA update.
Other than that, I was thinking about taking it into Verizon and telling them that I'm OCD about the updates and do no want it to be there and demanding a brand new replacement. Wonder if that would work.....
Reboot in download and Odin a rooted stock rom
I do not believe the updates will auto installed without you agreeing to it first. it may download the update but it won't installed without your consent.
What I'm thinking is throwing a rom onto the SD card on the old phone, and then booting the new phone into recovery and flashing the rom from there.
When I got mine at the beginning of the year, it tried to pull the update nonsense, so I pulled the battery. When I turned it back on, it told me I had an update and asked when I would like to download it, so I put it on the max (something like in 7 days). Not sure that this is how it will go down this time, just sharing my experience.
Yeah...that's what I was expecting. But when I turned the phone back on after turning it off...it just picked right back up at downloading the update. Was annoying.

Ok, I was able to use the SD card in the old phone to load the Stock MJ9 rom from Beanstown106(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578458) onto it. Put it into the new phone, went into recovery and flashed it. No more of that OTA bullpucky!
Disable sdm application will solve this problem
Thanks,

Looking for some help. Trying to install new update, but keeps failing with the android logo and a triangle with exclamation mark after attempting to install. Not sure what I hit but when taking battery out got the following screen. I was on 1.57 with gladroot. Had to sbf flash during the original update process some time ago as didnt get run scripts correctly first time through
Flash back to 26, then 57, then 83. Clean and fresh update is what you need.

had a feeling that is what was going to be said.. going to leave it until I have more time, dont feel like sitting and setting my phone back to how I want it.
When the triangle and exclamation appears you don't have to take out the battery. Only touch the right low corner of the screen and the reboot display appears. I had the same problem at first but the information appeared indicated me what was the problem. Once corrected the update ran well.

I've done it so many times myself now, but I like tinkering. The day I got beta I flashed back to 4.1.26 three times while at work before I ended up being successful with everything because I kept making "operator errors"! I planned for this and took my wall charger to work so I could boot into recovery. Took me over an hour each time to get fully updated! lol
Yeah, you have to flash to a clean version. Most likely you have a mod installed on your phone, and you can update with a mod on your phone.
Are either enabling sideloading or adding the tethering apn that gladroot does for you considered a mod? Just curious what I'm in for when I try to go from rooted 1.57 to 1.83 OTA
I just bought a new Prime a couple days ago and installed the offical ICS update.
Today it's been going into a bootloop rage LOL.Is there a stock recovery that I could clear caches if that even exists..Any advice will be graciously welcome! Thanks
Not until ASUS unlocks the bootloader.

Yes there is a stock recovery, but it will not help you in any way. From it, you can do absolutely nothing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that's just the way it is at the moment.
To get to it you need to switch off the device, then once it is off, hold (volume down + power) this will bring you to a screen saying push 'vol up' for RCK. You may get lucky and clear whatever it is that's misbehaving, but it will only look at what is in it's own recovery partition, which for most is "Jack Sh#t"!
The other options after the countdown are factory reset (which clears only user data and has no relevance to the /System partition), or "cold boot linux" which is self explanatory.
I wish you luck in your endeavours.
Bro this thing reboots every 10 minutes! When on the power cable,it stabilizes.
Before I bought, I read on all the issues but took the dive in but this is ridiculous!
I read theres an update next week to fix this issue but the last update was to do the same fix Oh well.I'm waiting for the update and if it doesn't resolve this then Imma gonna give bestbuy a little visit

I misunderstood and assumed that you were simply in a boot-loop. Whatever software version you are currently on, .11 or .13 you could try the actual update procedure from the sdcard. But only if you can boot into the system properly.
All you do is download the relevant zip, then unzip it. You will now have a new zip that you put on the root of your sdcard and start the device up. This will re-flash your current software version and possibly sort out your issues, it has helped several people in the past.
I for one would just back up any photos, videos etc... then do a factory reset followed ny this flash technique. Do not use titanium backup to restore apps, just restore them one by one from the market.
This method eliminates any possibility of bad user data causing problems, then you will know that it is the device causing the issue.
I'm still from the old school where most computer problems are user related and not actually software related. ASUS are slowly making me re-think that though.
Im on build # 9.4.2.13 from like two days ago.I don't want to root it just yet, the instructions you gave me seems for root and custom recovery right? Thanks Doktaphex

Nope, for straight up standard ASUS non-rooted vanilla loveliness. Just go to ASUS website, find the download area for the Prime, download the .13 US firmware, unzip. Do not unzip the zip, that the unzipped zip gives you (I hope that bit makes sense ). Then put that onto your sdcard root directory (ie. do not put in a folder, just put it on the card) then stick it in the Prime, fire it up and the Prime should see it as a firmware update, you choose this and voila. Profit.
Ok dl'd to my ex-sd fired it up and nothing copied it to internal sd and nothing...
EDIT: I dl'd the Taiwan update instead(stupid).DL'd the US update and ran it to no improvement.Factory wiped and reinstalled and still getting reboots constantly.Does anyone think I should regress to .11 and then manually install .13 again...I'm thinking there's no benefit till the supposed new update next week

You cannot downgrade to .11 unfortunately. I hope it gets fixed up soon though.
Honestly man I wouldn't wait if you you got it retail I would just go for an exchange if you can stock seems to be loosening up......who knows if the update will work or come on time and I'm a firm believer in once something starts showing signs of problems it rarely gets better it usually continues or gets worse

Today I had noticed an update was issued to my phone (Motorola Atrix) which I promptly declined as I have previously flashed my phone and assumed that it would lead to issues. After I declined I told my wife to decline when she received the message as well. Well I guess she ignored me because she came home from work and said her phone doesn't work. Prying her for information she admitted to downloading because she was "annoyed" because it kept prompting her.
So this is what I got: Motorola Atrix, previously flashed about 8 months ago. An over the air update was downloaded. Now when you boot up the phone you get about 2 minutes of use before it prompts to shut down. When it restarts it tries to install the over the air update and fails. Yanking the battery will allow to reboot and access the phone again then repeat.
Is it possible to remove the update and restore the phone?
do you have a nandroid backup? if not you may just have to reflash the rom again

I do not. When I boot my phone and try to access Android Recovery I run into the same issue with the failed update so I am not sure if I can reflash the ROM this way. Is there an alternate method?
After countless hours of research, I decided to unlock my bootloader and to root my Motorola Atrix 4G. With success, I was happy to have everything working and installed the Darkside Custom Rom. I let a friend borrow my phone, and they saw the AT&T system update and they decided to install it. They bring back the phone and the system update has finished and was installing. The phone powers off and starts to install the update. 10% into the install, it stops, and I got the little green droid man with the /!\ behind him. I take out my battery, place it back in after 30seconds. It powers on, boots up, powers off and tries to load the update again. I restart it, but this time quickly going into RomManager and starting it up in Recovery Mode. I go to restore the phone using the file I backed up from the TitaniumBackUp app, everything backs up except the system. I plug my phone into my laptop, and everything is in the folder. I performed a system/factory reset, downloaded the last Gingerbread update, but nothing helps. Anything I try to load it says "Installation aborted". No matter if it's the original update or a ROM I download. Looking up other forums, I notice others that have downloaded the Darkside ROM have had the same; if not similar issues. I apologize for the length of this message, but I wanted to put in as much detail as I could so you know exactly what the issue is. I look forward to hearing from someone, and thank you in advance!!!
You probably need to sbf it back to a stock ROM and start over. I had a similar problem when I first got my Atrix and the AT&T update first came out. I had already rooted it and didn't unlock the bootloader yet. It tried to update and bricked the phone. Got AT&T to give me another though as I had just got the thing.

Thanks a ton! How would I go about doing that?
You need to download motorola RSD app to you computer. Search XDA for stock firmwares and download one. You will then need to use the button combo to get in to RSD. Connect the phone to your computer and make sure it recognizes. I had an issue where one of my laptops would not recognize the phone for anything. I had to use a different laptop. Once it's done you should be back to stock. The bootloader should be unlocked still. Just root and flash your ROM of choice.

Long story short when I first bought my Note 2 a couple months back I decided I would try and root. I had never attempted something like this before and didn't make it very far before I decided to give up. Since then the phone has been fine until today. I got a message for an update and told the phone to proceed. The phone downloaded the data and reboot itself. This is where things get weird; instead of rebooting it takes me to "Team Win Recovery Project v2.3.2.3". I'm assuming I installed some type of boot loader that is preventing the device from installing the factory Verizon update.
Again I'm really a noob at this, and on top of it I really need a stable phone right now. Our family business of 45 years essentially burnt to the ground this past Friday so I'm running around like a mad man. I receive non stop calls and emails from contractors all day and really need to feel like the device is solid again. Help, please....
Sounds like u maybe unlocked? Not sure how far u made it.... first I would install goomanager from the market and open hit menu install recovery... this will update twrp to the latest.... next I would reboot into recovery from goomanager once there backup ur device on sdcard.... then I would try to flash the modded stock update from imnuts....to remain stock...should be fairly safe as from wut I read u only need root which I'm assuming u have if u have twrp...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2269736
Also backup ur apps SMS mms contacts pics and whatever u want to keep....
TaPpEd from my TwEaKeD N2
Or just skip the update for now if u don't want to chance it.... if u make a backup u should be ok tho just in case....

It wont update because you have a custom recovery, you should avoid updating to the newest OTA because all our current exploits for bootloader unlocking are useless on it.
Pretty much what happens when you have a custom recovery and you download the update is it tries to install but the custom recovery stops it, it will boot to TWRP which is your custom recovery and then go no further until to tell the phone to reboot into the sytem.
