[Q] Modem from FTF to CWM - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Firstly, sorry for bad english. Although I'll try to do my best here, I'm not american, nor english and I'm not very used with your language. My problem is simple and have been asked here before. The problem is that they guy who asked help wasn't very specific with his problem.
I have a ST25A, a latin american version of our Xperia U, which differs from your ST25i in its baseband (the modem). The ROMs we find here are all for ST25i and the baseband included is for the ST25i. Actually it kinda works with the ST25A model, but the signal is weak (even worse if you're not richie enough to pay for the best mobile service, which is my case).
Then I tried to flash the original ROM baseband for the ST25a, but for some reason, I wasn't able to boot my cellphone in flashmode. I tried everything I could try all around xda and other forums. Nothing worked. So, I couldn't use Flashtools to flash the baseband.
In another attempt, I tried to convert the original ROM from FTF (Sony format), to CWM, but I wasn't able to do that by myself (I'm not pro at this stuff and a friend of mine who knows about it a little better than me couldn't help either).
So I'm here creating this thread as my last attempt to have my ST25a with a CyanogenMod ROM, because without the right baseband it won't be possible. Below is a link of Sony's ST25a stock ROM:
http://sdrv.ms/1fDwMh1
(It's uploaded in my Skydrive account, so it shall not be a problem to download it)
I'm here to ask someone to convert it into something I can flash the baseband in my Sony Xperia U without needing the flashtool. To open the FTF file I used WinRAR (that actually seems to open every container format).
I don't know if I made myself clear, but it's not only a problem of mine, it probably is a problem all latin american owner of a Xperia U will have. If someone can help to extract the baseband and give me a tip on how to make it work in my Xperia U, I would really appreciate. If I didn't make myself clear enough for you to understand my problem, don't hesitate asking.
Thanks for your time and sorry for disturbing, oh, and Merry Christmas, ppl!
Peace,
Eduardo Barth.
PS: Using my friend account as my account doesn't have permission to post links.

You realy should explain what the problem is and how it is related to CynogenMod which for what I know change the system only.
What do you want a ST25i rom with ST25a modem? just copy the modem from the i ROM to the a ROM.
You do not realy need WinRAR or any other program, FTF is just a zip file, if you rename it to .zip you can just copy the files in windows explorer then rename it back to FTF (in command line)
Or you can just exclude the modem from flash when you flash ST25i RON and flash the modem only from the ST25a ROM.

The problem is that Sony's files have .SIN extension, which is not compatible with CWM recovery. I tried to convert it to CWM zip and had no success with that.
The main problem is that my cellphone doesn't recognize's the Flashtool, because it have a problem with it's USB connector. I can't simply flash the baseband, I need to convert the baseband form .SIN (sony) to CWM files. There are some tutorials that explain how to do that for the system partition, but I tried to do the steps for the baseband and it didn't work. That's why I'm here, trying to find help to do that.

My advise to you is, if you cannot flash with flashtool don't mess with your phone because if something will go wrong, abd something will go wrong, you lose your phone.

Yes, I know. The problem is that my phone currently is with a wrong baseband (modem) and the signal is always poor to gone, so I already have a dead brick in hands...
Anyway, thank you for your attention.

[Q] Basebands

Just a small question. Is it alright if I flash the basebands on this forum if I have the SK17A? Or will it brick my phone's radio?
u can make some backup for your stock kernel first, or googling

He asked about baseband, not kernel.
As far as I know, baseband is not located insite kernel.
@OP
No, you shouldn't flash "i" basebands in your "a" phone. It'll mess with your 3G reception.
You can download an .ftf firmware file for your SK17a in this topic.
It's a bundle file, which contains kernel, loader, system and baseband.
In short: if you just want to flash the SK17a baseband, download that file and, in Flashtool, select "exclude" for everything, except baseband.

[Q] Stock Rom, how to backup to ftf?

Hi,
I'd like to experiment with kamarush's roms for the mini pro. They seem fast and stable, and better than the official ics update for now.
However,
I always need to go through wotanserver to be able to downgrade, as I have a Belgian Azerty version, and I can't find the correct firmware online.
So... How can I back up the full firmware that is now on my device?
(Stock Mini Pro, 2.3.4 build 62, not rooted)
You can't create a .ftf file from your phone (only through Sony Update Service and MAYBE through PC Companion, wait for someone to confirm this). So I think you could:
a) Try a Software Repair through PC Companion (if someone confirms it), that will download your original firmware. Then check the forum for a tutorial about how to create .ftf files.
b) Root, install CWM Recovery and create a full backup. If you want to come back to stock ROM, just flash whichever .ftf file, root, install CWM and restore your backup. That should do it.

I am looking for this kind of confirmation. Is it possible to create a .ftf file using PC companion?

Probably...But you will need a COMPLETE update not a minor update ...As in .431 to .587 is a minor update but .62 to .587 is a major update and you might be able to get the binary blobs to make FTF ...Best way is using SEUS however ...You can't go wrong with it ...
Also probably you are better off creating new thread rather than bumping 1 and a half year threads ...

their is no need to back up tft file since stock files are availabl to download AND flash ( require which version your phone having CHECK YOUR PHONE SETTING)
as well their is sony update service to repair and update your phone.
by the way you can do one thing if you really wanna back up just root your phone install CWM And do nandroid recovery (back up)
for further help look into my Sony live with walkman post (kinda boring) but it will help you in future.

[Q]

I recently bought a Xperia Sola . I unlocked it's bootloader and rooted it with a kernel with CWM recovery. After doing some installation of apps, i did a nandroid backup in CWM and when I rebooted, it stuck in boot loop (Sony Logo). :crying: . I tried to recover from earlier backups but all of those given me md5sum mismatch! error.
I am new to these things and I searched and read here and there. I found that, I have to flash a new ROM by going to CWM recovery. (I can still boot to the recovery). I searched for the Sony stock ROM but haven't find them. My Firmware was 6.0.B.1.184 and I think, it is Great Britain ROM. It has Bengali language though (also chinese input support).
I am a little bit confused about the ROM's also. All think, it contains the set of Applications. My android version was 2.3.7.
I would be glad if you can give me a link to stock 6.0.B.1.184 ROM. Also I don't want to upgrade my Android to IceCreamSandwitch (ICS probably). I have also know that, I have to use flashtool. Is there any alternative of flashtool? probably, CWM can do the job.
Note: I and my brother bought the same mobile set. Can I create a backup of his ROM and use it to flash?
I hope, I will receive a quick response.
Thanks for your helps.
#EDIT:
I have 3 question:
1. If I flash an ICS ROM, will it work with the existing Kernel which is I think GB kernel?
2. Does it matter if I flash a firmware/ROM with other region such as India (I'm in Bangladesh)? Also How could I verify which region My Sola is from?
3. I found a 184 ROM from xperiadev.wordpress.com/flashing/xperia-ftf-firmwares/ for my Sola, but it is from Central Europe? Will it create any problem?
You can use your brothers backup for your phone...
Dont change the name of the backup file as it will give you md5 sum error
If this info helped you click the thanks button

Can I? really? I read somewhere that, you should not use other's backup. Did you actually try that?
I haven't tried others backup yet....
But you can give it a try...
Otherwise flash any ftf file for your device ics or gb then it would work fine..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have a locked BL and you're rooted, if you install a Locked BL CWM, is other not the option in Advanced- Create firmware zip? Can someone do that for him?

In this case Im out of the game :crying:
Im so sorry but I cant help
I also faced that problem a while ago, as a stock update.zip would be very useful. Flashing a file via cwm is much more faster than booting up flashtool and flash a ftf file. I was able to extract the firmware files from a ftf file with flashtool but I just didn't know how to pack them into an update.zip. My main problem is that I didn't know how to set the permissions correctly.
EDIT: Ah. I think I found something out. This website sounds good. I think that is what you are looking for. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/easily-extract-ics-system-files-from-sony-xperia-ftf-files/
EDIT2: To build an update.zip package this could work. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/extract-ftf-files-and-turn-them-into-flashable-zips/
EDIT3: And with this tool you can unpack the ext4 files of a xu ics ftf file. http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidicsjbext/files/20130408/ext4_unpacker_exe.zip/download
EDIT4: I sum up the extraction process:
0. Get a ftf file(e.g. this generic ics ftf http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075526)
1. Get flashtool, 7zip and the ext4_unpacker(see above)
2. Open firmware ftf file with 7zip and extract system.sin
3. Flashtool->Tools->Sin Editor-> Select system.sin file. -> Dump data
4. Open extracted system.ext4 file with the ext4_unpacker and extract system files to a folder called system/.
Now anyone has to figure out how to create an update.zip file. I think that's the harder part.

Yes I'm using older version. It fails to flash any system.sin when flashing FTF, and when flashing kernels it says the device must be rooted first. was on cm13 and when I wanted to revert back and flash older Android version it fooked up. I have other 3 or 4 xplays and they reverted back from cm13 custom partition just fine..
second on reup request if possible
Sorry for the late response, i never deleted it from my Mega account and i was not aware the links where broken.
I moved on from this phone long ago so i don't check the forum very often, but the file is now available once more for those with bricks.
Thanks, i think this can be very helpful
Thanks for this. Needed to do a reflash to stock as something had become corrupted with mine and wouldnt load any apps. Havent used flashtool for years and was surprised that I managed to flash with windows 10 64 bits too which I wasnt expecting.

I do not have a copy of the Tmobile FTF, however since your device is a r800i ReFlash should work for you and changes it to a non branded Xperia Play.
