[Q] Kernel choice on Slimkat - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i am using SlimKat i9100 SaberMod 4.8, 4.4.2, 12-23 build, and now i am on Gustavo kernel, i want to change to Apolo or Dorimanx. When i tried Dorimanx latest beat build, i cannot re-install Slimkat as it gave me error!, so i want to change to Apolo kernel, but i do not know, should i download apolo cm kernel? or omni kernel for KK?

CWM from Dorimanx didn't worked for me too, flash CWM from http://mirror21.downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS2/recovery/CWM-KitKatCompatible-i9100.zip and after that flash new Slim (BTW there is 25/12 version right now).
I tried to install Apolo beta2 (OMNI version) but I can't change any settings so I switched back to GustavoS
EDIT #1
After flashing latest SlimSaber I'm using SlimKernel (included) - STweaks don't work, but Trickster Mod have enought options for me at the moment

If you read the thread of the dorimanx kernel then you would know that you can't install a kitkat rom from the dorimanx recovery. Therefore you need to flash a kitkat compatible recovery before you want to flash a kitkat rom.
I don't want to be a ****, but if you don't know what you're doing you need to ask yourself if you want this. If you do something wrong, you can brick your phone.

thank you for help, i really appreciate it

temasek, as posted
Temasek
I am using temasek rom v74 (CM 10.1) with his kernel with stweaks support and boeffla sound app, and have amazing battery life. The developer is also really helpful providing us with custom profiles for our battery tweaks. You should at least try it out.

which rom you tried to install as second rom?
you know that syah kernel is discontinued and does not work with newer roms?
use instead googymax kernel (based on syah kernel), it is discontinued now as well, but at least it also supports the latest roms (except the ported note 2 rom kitkat rom)
or use devil kernel
or use arter97 kernel
for dualboot

There is no 'best' rom or best 'kernel'. Every rom and kernel are good in their own ways. However, I can recommend using slimsaber rom by Fusionjack and dorimanx kernel 10.44 v008 by cybernetus. You can try cm11 saber mod too as these combination have great battery life (and stability and features too).
I'm currently running Slimkat, latest official build alongside with Apolo Kernel and I have no issues so far.

[Q] most stable ROM for the Samsung S2 - GT-I9100 ?

Hello !
what is the most stable ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S2, in your opinion?
I have seen the most famous ones are: Cyanogenmod 11, Omnirom, NeatRom, SlimSaber..
I am very confused!
I have already tried CM11 but found it unstable.

Wait, are you asking me or the OP? In case you were talking to me, I've tried that combination before but I always find myself switching back to dorimanx kernel everytime. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great kernel but I still feel that on my side, dorimanx has been the most stable for me.

Thanks for your replies!
you, who are reading now:

SlimSaber. I didn`t even bother to change the default Kernel, although I have used DorimanX quite a lot in the past.
Thanks guys !

The top one is the one you want. Installing kernel is just like flashing a normal zip file. No wipe is required and can be flashed with custom recovery. Just make sure to flash the right one. Here is the version you want: http://dorimanx.cybernetus.com/10/Kernel_Dorimanx-V10.44v008-[08-39]-[27-12]-JB-SGII-PWR-CORE.zip

You might not want to use the latest build from greekdragon because it has issues with FCs. Use the latest kernel.

The last stable build I used was the 20160214 build from greekdragon.
You should be able to find it using the XDA search function (not linked in the OP).

If coming from 5.1.1 Du v9.8 on TWRP 2.8.7.0
1. flash CWM 6.0.5.3_1 (right from TWRP) and reboot to new recovery
2. flash SlimKernel-i9100-20140623
3. flash Kernel_Dorimanx-V10.50v001
4. wipe data, cache, system
5. flash SlimSaber-i9100-4.4.4-20160214
6. flash open_gapps-arm-4.4-pico-20160624
Am I right or did I forgot about something?

1. You don't need to flash old CWM.
2. You should always use the latest kernel build. v006 is the one you want.
3. You don't need to flash SlimKernel
4. If you followed your steps, you will end up with in-built kernel from slimsaber and not dori kernel!
So it should look like this:
1. wipe data, cache, system
2. flash SlimSaber-i9100-4.4.4-20160214
3. flash open_gapps-arm-4.4-pico-20160624
4. flash DorimanX V10.50 v006 UBER.
5. reboot.

Sorry, I can't help you with that as I have the i9100 and not the i9100p. I would recommend searching in the [MOD] NFC Enabler [JB] [ICS] [KK] thread for answers before posting in that thread.

Hi! Your latest dorimanx kernel for kitkat with linaro build is Version b009 released on 2017 where as with uber toolchain version is b007 released on 2016. You have already recommended uber, however linaro build is latest. Which one I shoud use?
Further, after installing Greekdragon 19052016 build for kitkat 4.4.4 or 21102015 of slimsaber build with latest Open Gaps as on 15.08.2017 , my s2 does not go into deep sleep. I have noticed that Google play services keeps on running which awake my device at 200Mhz. Would you please suggest some fix. Earlier I was on RR Nougat.

Always use latest build. Back then I liked using UBER, but gave users an option to use Linaro. Now I only use Linaro because there is less variables to deal with especially when diagnosing problems.

Is this with my kernel installed? I find this very strange as this behavior has never occurred to me. What does BBS show?

No, without your kernel. Using your kernel wifi is not working....
Saber...I am great fan of yours as you have consistently come up with some great developments for android whether it's kernel or Roms.Would u give me some suggestion on whether I should stick to slimsaber KitKat 4.4.4 or other KitKat rom like the latest lineage os 13 with latest security updates or I should go for Nougat with your Kernel installed. Which stable nougat romu suggest that could be used with or without your kernel. PLS.....suggest.

Hi,
I've pretty much been out of the loop in terms of Lineage/Nougat ROMs, so my assistance there is limited. If you need the customisation, stick with slimsaber. Yes it will be outdated, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Meanwhile, LineageOS 13 is a good choice if you need balance between performance, battery, and updates. Nougat however I would imagine is a little heavier on battery, but there are improvements in terms of notifications and in-built CPU scaling that S2 users can benefit from.
TL;DR: If you like what you have with slimsaber stick with it. Otherwise, LineageOS 13 is a excellent middle ground in terms of a great daily driver ROM. If you like the bleeding edge, you might enjoy Nougat.
