[Q] Is there a native hotspot mod for this phone? - HTC One Max

Coming from the galaxy and was wondering if there is a native hotspot mod for the one max? Was one for the galaxy 4. If not any recommended tether apps?

PDAnet from JuneFabrics
There is a tether app which has an excellent hotspot feature (called FoxFi). PDAnet from junefabrics.com . PDAnet bought out FoxFi. It may be also available on GooglePlay . I think I saw it there. I have used PDAnet on many generations of phones (two Droids and the HTC Thunderbolt), but the FOXfi Hotspot feature didn't work on my phones previously (only the USB cable would work). You will need to pay for the pro version to get hotspot (I think it's a couple of bucks and well worth it). I was quite pleased to discover that on the HTC ONE Max the hotspot feature has worked perfectly every time I needed it. Also Bluetooth connection ability worked as well when I tested it. It's still nice to have that cable connection in situations where the hotspot doesn't function (evidently that can happen in areas where there are many wifi signals, I'm not sure).

Ok cool thanks will try it

[Q] What does everyone use for wifi tethering?

I have a TB and a Wifi XOOM, and I have been using the mobile hotspot app to share my 3g/4g connection to the XOOM for a few days now with no problems. Yesterday I installed the Gingeritis ROM and have been experiencing some weird issues...
The Wifi connection remains stable but after about 30-60 minutes I need to restart my phone and re open the hotspot app to get a data connection again.
The reason i'm posting this thread is for two reasons: one is to find if anyone has the same issues using Gingeritis that I have experienced, the other is to find out if anyone has other methods of tethering that they recommend.
I used to use the Wireless Tether app on my X but have not tried it on the TB since the mobile hotspot app has been free so far; will that work?
Any recommendations are welcome, especially soon because i'll be on a train for 3 hours later and if I don't have to keep rebooting my phone that would be nice.
Thanks

I use the wireless tether app on my rooted TB. Works great, never had a problem. Another app you can try is Barnacle, you can get it from the Market. Both have worked great, I used to us Barnacle more because it let you control the amount of power the radio put out and thus save on battery lifr. However, I can't seem to find that option any longer. Try Wireless Tether, I've used it with multiple PC and iPads with no problems!
I use wireless tether to my wifi xoom almost daily.

Tried out that "Open Garden" app. It ain't bad.

It's still on the market, but it's hidden by a Verizon block. Can get it via the market if you kick into airplane mode and search over wifi.
Another happy wireless tether for root user
Tether to my ipad..
Friends internet went out , currently teathered to his xbox 360 and playing on live right now. btw mobile hotspot free till like july 7th.
+1 for Wireless Tether. Browsing is solid, but I wouldn't exactly game on it..

You rock, I use this app and just got it off the web but I tried the Airplane mode trick you mentioned so I could get it via market for auto updates! Thanks man.
***EDIT*** (Turns out that even though its in "My Apps" under the market on my TBolt, I cant update it unless I turn off the radio. If you click on the app after its installed with you radio on it "cant find" the app. Verizon really doesn't want you to have that app I guess. Whatever though, you can download it from market over wifi.)***
Ohh and I (obviously) use Wireless Tether.
Works awesome. I used on last Monday on the beach in Hilton Head with 4G so the wife could log into work for a end of year teacher meeting on her laptop.

Ditto. I keep Barnacle and Wi Tether both so I can switch from time to time.
Both have always worked well.
I use the Sprint Tether app on the EVO 3D port, the T-Mobile Tether app on the Sensation port, the inbuilt Verizon app on stock (free until July) or the built-in FroYo tether on AOSP ROMs. There's no reason to download another app when these are pre-installed.
I play COD off of my WiFi tether app on PS3 and have no issues. It seems to run faster on Gingerites than BAMF.

Tethering?

I'm confused. I understand that Sprint charges extra to allow customers to enable tethering via their cell phones. And I understand that many rooted phones can have apps installed and/or enabled to allow tethering without any extra charge. (Please correct me if any of that is inaccurate.)
So what happens when I turn on the wifi hotspot on my new phone? Will it fail because I don't have a "tethering" option on my plan? Will it work, but add $30 to my monthly bill? Or will something else happen.
Same with the USB tethering? How does that work? And get billed?
This 3vo is the first phone I've had that offered these options.
You can use USB tethering without paying the $30/month fee. That's just for WiFi tethering. If you try to use the WiFi hotspot, it simply will just not work. You will not be charged.

Both wired and wireless tethering fail with the message to contact Sprint to upgrade your plan.
What about pdanet? I haven't had time to try it out yet.

Tethering Roms
I found when you try to use either wireless or wired tethering build into the software, you get that error message and it also shuts down the 3g signal. You can still form an adhoc network wirelessly but no internet.
I'm looking for a Rom that unlocks the built in tethering. I just found Virusrom to do a good job. Any other roms you can recommend that just unlock the built in tethering functions?

Tether your Touchpad

OK... After sacrificing my ability to tether by moving from CM7 xronified to ICS, I have tried all kinds of combinations to tether my Epic 4G Touch to my TP on ICS (currently running CM9 alpha 2).
I came across the app foxfi in the market and it WORKS. I am still on cloud 9 at the moment, but has anyone heard anything bad about this app? It doesn't behave like open garden or wifi tether, but its freaking working. I am posting from the tethered connection right now.

What tethering app are you using?
I must be missing something, how is it possible that what version of Android your TouchPad is running effects your phones ability to be a wifi hotspot?
I have never had an issue with using the built in wifi portable hotspot in Android to tether my TouchPad. If you enabled that on your phone when you were running CM7 on your TP, how would ICS affect that.

Touchpad doesn't play so nicely with all tethers. Consider yourself lucky. Alot of people dumped their TPs because they couldn't get tethering to work. It is very buggy. All 3 of my TPs don't tether at will. In the past, there have been different protocols to get each to work. My hotspot could be seen by every other device I own, but my TPs couldn't see it. There are tons of bug threads relating to wifi, but nothing really talking about tethering. I saw a few other threads in forums for phones addressing touch pad, but why not have a place in the touch pad forum to bring it all to one spot?
Now Foxfi works with all three TPs and no ceremonial switches and reboots are required to get it to go.
Mine tethers from my Atrix perfectly with the built in setting. didn't know people were dumping their tp cuz of tether.

Dumb ?
Read what was here, but question:
Do I need to root my phone? I have the HTC Incredible 2, and am not trying to root that and just trying to connect my Touchpad (wifi-only) to my phone and be able to use internet, market, etc.
What apps and instructions would I need?
I thinking only people on Sprint (or Verizon?) have that issue....I tether my tp with my Samsung captivate on ATT all the time...so does my Sister from HTC sensation on Tmobile....
@Salvation27/: u csn try this app Clockworkmode tether

As far as I know, without rooting, you will have to pay for the hotspot service by your provider in order to tether. I would say try PDAnet, but I haven't heard of anyone successfully tethering via BT.

That could be the issue too. I will test it with some of my friends phones and report back (might be a day or two). I didn't think about a possible conflict with carrier specific phones.

According to the info on the Market, Foxfi does not require rooting. But you will need to check to see if it is compatible with your phone.

I use freetether on my pre2 to tether-via-wifi with my touchpad, works great.
You're right about the bluetooth. The option is there, and I can get everything to link up, but it still doesn't seem to be actually sharing the internet connection. I thought it'd be brilliant to get bluetooth tethering going (it should use a bit less energy to tether, giving me better battery life), but it doesn't seem to work in all the testing and fiddling I've done...

USB Wired Tether?

Is there one that works for the Rezound? This was last updated in 2010...

Blocks https ? How is that industry standard, maybe amongst the tether app devs but not real world

how would you do wired tethering to a tablet? foxfi is only needed for wireless i belive. if you want to do wireless tethering just get wifi tether. works great
I am trying easy tether lite.
Basically its connected to PC and app is working, it works on websites. However things like ssh connections dont appear to even try to use the connection they still go over my wired broadband connection. According to the FAQ only UDP is blocked, so I have emailed the author to see if its a true internet sharing app or just for web.
After a bit of research, I have found the following methods for full, free USB tethering with no limitations and for free USB reverse tethering:
I found this app for USB tether. It is entirely free and allows https and all. It took me a bit of time to figure out how to make it work: I did it by going to Chrome Settings > Advanced settings > Proxy settings > LAN settings > Use proxy server for LAN; Adress: localhost; Port: 8080.
Then I started the connection from the app, also set to port 8080. Although Windows never recognized any internet connection, it worked in Chrome.
To switch back to my DSL internet or Wi-Fi, I had to disable the proxy again.
For the reverse tether, I found this Windows tool. It allows reverse tethering with nothing installed on the phone (although root is needed). The only problem with it is that the Play Store is unable to download over its connection, but one can always go to play.google.com in the phone's browser and download things from there.
easy tether does actually work on everything, I paid for it now.
I got no idea if any free apps that have full tethering. CM7 rom supposedbly has it but for some reason the option isnt on my phone's version of CM7.

WIFI Hotspot without rooting?

Is it possible to make HTC One MAX a wifi hotspot without rooting? When I had EVO, I used PDANET. Are there any equivalents?

don't have an answer for you if you don't have root but for those that do I use Wifi Tether for Root found here (https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/). Its not perfect I usually have to start and stop it a couple of times before my Mac will recognize it. As well you can use this (http://www.clockworkmod.com/) for usb tethering, I got it working on my linux box, but the PC app does not work on my Mac OS X Mavericks.
