Downgrade from MJ7 to ME7 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I know going from ME7 to MDK is damn near impossible, but how about MJ7 to ME7?

do you have anymore info on this? and why it would be beneficial? i want to run a different ROM but dont want a dual ROM like what safestrap requires...Does MJ7 have an unlocked bootloader yet?

[Q] Possible stupid question

So I just noticed today (been very busy with work) that there are some ME7 roms. I wanted to try the, is it Bone Stock one. So my stupid question, is if I try this rom.. I am not stuck to that am I? Like if I took the OTA I am stuck with that... that isnt the case with one of the ME7 roms, correct?
Sorry for the ignorance.
If you took the ota ME7 update, you can root, but cannot flash any roms as there is no custom recovery available. If your still on MDK, you can root and install custom recovery which will allow you to flash roms, even ME7 roms.

You won't be disappointed if you're looking for a stable ROM and good battery life. Not that I have anything bad to say about the others. All the active choices seem good.

S4 has never had an unlocked bootloader, it uses the Loki exploit which enables you to basically do everything you could do with an unlocked boot loader. I think all this bootloader talk has many misinformed. I could care less about an unlocked bootloader, I would like an exploit like Loki again if possible.
But to answer your question, you will still have the Loki exploit.

baseband question

I have the good MDK baseband and currently on Hyperdrive AOSP. I wanted to upgrade my radio. Is this the same as baseband, will it break something?

Radio is separate from build base...

Yes radios are the baseband version. Heres where the radios are, but to be safe I would make sure the MD5 matches before flashing in recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46550751

Thanks.
And just because i can't figure this one thing out. How come so many people who upgrade their phones are locked out of unlocking/root, yet i can go up and down ?
Could flashing a radio other than mdk on mdk bootloader Bork your ability to make calls? I flashed mk2 radio over mdk bootloader and could not make calls on Sammy roms but could if I flashed cm based roms.

You can go up and down in terms of radios and android versions, not builds. We're you to odin to anything but mdk you would be stuck in a state where you could not regain an unlocked bootloader. All builds have a root method though. If this is something you don't understand I would research it more, simply to prevent you from accidentally losing your mdk build.

ahh, so narrowed it down to builds. So what is a build? I have ODINed before, obviously to MDK. When a build, such as hyperdrive or eclipse 4.4.2 is made, it seems that they keep the parts that link back to MDK. What is that part? The reason i ask is because i want to start making my own builds and would like a deep understanding so i don't screw up.

Those roms (I'm assuming) don't touch the bootloader, which is the part of the mdk build that you must not change in order to maintain the loki exploit that allows you to load custom roms and kernels. If you build a rom from aosp source or what have you just make sure it doesn't include any parts of the bootloader/boot chain and you should be ok.

safestrap

Since my note 2 has 4.3 and a locked bootloader I understand I cant flash custom roms its rooted though. Is there a safestrap version that works it looks like it could be a very long time maybe never if we get this 4.3 bootloader unlocked.

How to upgrade to NC5 from MJ7

I just used the tut to upgrade from MI1 to MJ7, worked perfectly! I really want to get on to KitKat is there an official method to do so?
This is the method I used. And I still have the mj7 bootloader.

Really, How did you keep the mj7 bootloader? the article stated to downgrade first.

it doesn't say anything about downgrading first.
there is a method to downgrade back to mk2 if necessary.(which is not anymore)
but that is at the bottom of the op
and this process doesn't upgrade the bootloader so it never touched it.

[Q] Why does the MK2 bootloader matter?

Probably a noob question, but if you want root for titanium, wifi tether, xposed mods, etc...
Why is it so important to stay on MK2.
There's a few threads on downgrading from NC5 to MK2, and back up to keep the MK2 bootloader.
MK2 is not MDK, you can't run a custom recovery.
So what's so bad about taking the NC5 OTA and then just rooting? You can still run SS? Can yoi not flash a SS compatible ROM on NC5s bootloader?
Just trying to understand the difference. I know the benefit to MDK, just not anything else.

People hold out hope that someone may unlock the mk2 bootloader. To me it doesn't matter I'm on the NC2/NC5 bootloader myself.

Are we pretty close to unlocking MK2? Should I hold out?
I used your method to upgrade to NC5, but the audio over wifi glitch has me on the verge of taking the OTA.
Im not really seeing any other way of fixing this issue except going stock?
Also alot of those threads were made before a native NC5 exploit was released. Before towelroot, the MK2 bootloader downgrade was the method for root.

It really sucked having to do that. It was my first root ever and I soft bricked my phone three times because I knew less than nothing about rooting and whatnot. Three weeks later: Towelroot. Now its a party lol.

But there are more devs working for a bootloader exploit for the S5, than the S4.
And the S5, so if there is an exploit on the S5, it will probably transfer over to the S4 at the NC5 level since that firmware is on par with the S4s NC5.
So isn't it better to go to full NC5?
