there is a recent root method discovered by another member it so far works on venue 8 4.2.2 rom
as for custom recovery, once someone can extract the original stock recovery theres several methods to obtain a custom recovery.

I was trying to flash rom 345 by using the the update.pkg and recovery.img here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak
and now when I turn on my streak, it just shows the dell logo.
if u used the recovery for 345 and the 345update.pkg then u should not have issues.
Try factory reset and see if that helps
Hey all I have a question. Im trying to root my friends Dell Streak for him and Ive read that Super One Click works. Can anyone confirm if they used that method? If not please let me know which you used. THANKS!
I never used super one click. Long time ago I used Gingerbreak to root 2.2.2 based on 347.
Now I just flash Superuser.zip via streakmod. Takes less than 10 mins altogether. This method worked flawlessly for me on 2.2.2 based on 360 and 2.3.3 based on Olleh 407.

DSC 0.66b - Using it now. No bugs for me at all
I've previously tried rooting with an app and S1C, but none have worked. Flashing the .zip as others have mentioned is the only way to do it :]

Yes, next question
But seriously, the only thing you have to remember when using fastboot on linux is to use "-i 0x413c" (Dell's USB Vendor ID) after fastboot, before the fastboot commmand, e.g.:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
Edit: I now saw the typo , it's 0x413c

Thank you friend, it truly helps. I have looked for something like this for several months now
Is there an Android 5.0.X release for the Venue 8 yet, im getting one for free so just curious.
Thanks.
There's not a lollipop build yet. Although there may be in the future. Give it a few months. Or one year. The power this tablet has is truly undeniable

Asus release Lollipop ROM for Zenphone 5 & 6 which have same specs with Dell Venue 3830. Could you port it to our Dell?
Signature Verification Failure using this Stock
Hello there,
Just tried to use the ROM to revive my Venue 8 3830.
Downloaded and copied it to a SD card, having the tablet in system recovery - droid boot with opened chest door with red exclamation triangle. Apply update from external source aborts install with "Signature Verification failed".
Tried to wiping cache and data/factory recovery with no luck.
Device was never rooted.
Please do you have any suggestions?
Thanks
J

you need to connect your venue 8 to the pc after boot your tablet in fastboot(power + vol.down) then the pc will recognize your device and you can flash the rom.
The stcok recovery only is needed for flash OTA updates

then install this one
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a3/development/miui-miui-11-mi-a3-t4016457
Then fastboot flash android 9 again like how you downgrade from android 10
all links have guide inside

You aren't rooting your device. You're just installing a custom recovery and a custom rom.

No rooting. If you want you may sacrifice Widevine L1 DRM and just flash persist partition and your sensors are fixed

TWRP doesn't work for me. Easily fixed by OrangeFox Recovery.
Thanks for advice.
