I am not sure when/where/why, but since I switched to the roms based off the 3.17 OTA update, I have had no 1x Data on my EVO LTE. 3G/4G work fine, the HD Voice is great, but when I am outside of 3G range, I have no data connection whatsoever and the phone gives me data call failures almost nonstop.
I have tried flashing the latest radios, bootloader, etc but so far nothing has gotten my 1x data back. (though it is a bit tough to test. Is there a way to force 1X only on Sprint?)
Right now I am on the Sense 5 Y8 rom and while it is fantastic, I still want to get 1X back so I was wondering if formatting everything in Recovery, then running the latest RUU from HTC's site to hopefully restore/update everything in the phone would work.
That is the closest to force restoring the phone to default correct? Has anyone else had an issue similar to this?

I'm having the strangest problem, my browser is not cooperating with 4G. Especially with Google, the progress bar just sits there nearly indefinitely. It can load full sites, such as topgear.com, but it hangs at the end before the bar is full.
I can toggle down to 3G and it works fine. I'm currently running the OTA MR2 radio. This started, however, some time after I flash Chingy's latest leak. I've flash radios back and forth a couple of times, cleared cache and dalvik, clear Internet application data, I've even done a complete wipe (wiped everything twice) and re-flashed without restoring anything what so ever. Nothing works other than toggling down to 3G.
That being said, it's not a connection issue. I can tether and it runs great, speed tests ran from the phone have good results and most application that use data are fine. I'm baffled.
Any suggestion? Any one ran into something like this?
Thanks.
I had the same thing after flashing the new leak. Don't have a clue if its related or not, but my PRL changed after doing so. It went from 15011 to 15027. Afterwards, LTE connectivity was intermittent at best. Even when I set my radio to LTE only. It would stay on 4g for a bit, then go to 1x for no reason. After a couple of days now it has settled down. I did not change from MR2 leak.

My PRL is still 15011 and I have no issues with LTE connectivity. It doesn't drop LTE, tether works great and most applications that use data work fine. My issue is with the browser loading pages. I can refresh the Google home page and it will sit there for minutes without making any progress. Then I can imediately run a speed test and get 20Mbps, all while tethering without a hiccup. This is driving me nuts, I ran into a couple people over at rootzwiki who are having the same problem. Oddly enough we're all in Texas. *scratches head*
So I've been able to narrow down and duplicate the freezing of the phone.
Basically when the 4g is turned on, phone will freeze on receiving a text message.
When i have 4g radio off, but 3g and wifi on, or just 3g and just wifi, both are fine and will never freeze and have normal usage.
I was able to duplicate both issues rooted, with all 3 versions of the wimax radio, along with the cleanrom 2.3 and 2.4
I flashed back to stock all the way and updated the lastest ota, same behavior happens.
What i noticed is that if the sd card is pulled entirely, the phone doesn't freeze/can't wake up, i swapped sd cards to see if that was the issue, same problem even with a different sd.
i sent the phone back for an exchange. So hopefully the other phone will be fine.
As a work around, you'll have to never turn on 4g, or just use google voice for messaging, there seems to be a hardware issue when 4g switches to 1x to do messaging process.
Just to update, i got my replacement today and it doesn't have that issue at all.
the only thing different that i did is that i updated the radio AND the wimax.
in the thread that has all the radios i only updated the latest radio and not the latest wimax
I'm using cleanrom 2.5 with the kernel that came with it.
That is awfully weird considering the 4g radio is completely independent of the 1x/3g radio. Would it also freeze up if you got a phone call while on 4g?

with phone calls, it was fine... it was mainly text.
The new phone has been great, can't reproduce at all the error.
chances are, it was a bad wimax chip?
I would agree, but the wimax doesn't disconnect when you get a call or text. You can browse the web or have a download going over 4g even during phone calls. Either way, you glad you got a new one.
So, I S-offed my phone a while ago. I finally convinced my wife she should let me S-off her phone a day ago.
After S-off, I flashed the newest ICS leak (2x to make sure the RUU ran properly) and then flashed the stock deodexed rom that Scott posted.
That way she can have root, and I can remove some of the bloat apps she doesn't want via titanium and call it a day.
However, her phone is having some serious issues with 3g constantly toggling on and off while on wifi. (We don't have 4g in our area). I thought it was an issue with the kernel not flashing properly, so I wiped, and flashed it seperately. Still no change.
I reran the RUU 2x, and reflashed the stock leaked deodexed rom from Scott.
Still not changing the results. Her phone is running at least 10 degrees hotter from the constant radio toggling. Phone is reporting the same kernel and radios that I am.
Further investigation reveals that my phone is running on EVDO Rev.a, and her's is running on eHRPD. Running speedtests on the phones shows her getting 2-3x the data speeds of my phone while sitting in the exact same spot in the house.
So... any idea what's going on here? Technically eHRPD is better for data speeds as I understand it. However, if her phone is running at 104F and it's killing her battery it's not better.
For reference, my phone is also S-off, with the newest radios and kernels. I am running Rez Rom 2.1 which is a Sense 4.0 rom vs her stock deodex. As far as I can tell, mine being Sense 4.0 shouldn't be influencing the data connection like that.
Any thoughts would be really appreciated.
This is interesting,
where are you seeing which network you are connected to?
System settings> About Phone> Network.
It's listed there under Mobile network type.
Update:
I flashed her phone to the same Rez Rom s4 2.1 my phone is on, and it seems to have stopped the toggling issue.
She's still on eHRDP vs. my EVDO rev. a and the speed difference is huge.
Any ideas how to switch over to eHRDP?
If you have the 3G icon on both phones, then both phones are connected via EVDO Rev. A.
eHRPD is essentially an authentication protocol that allows switching to LTE when it is available.
Even when toggling LTE off in the network settings, the phone still connects via eHRPD. On the Droid Charge with a ROM with TSM parts, one can manually change the network selection. If you want voice, you need either 1X only mode or eHRPD 1X mode. If you only care about data, then there is an EVDO only mode. There is also the ability to force EVDO Rev 0 and still have 1X, but Rev 0 is even slower than Rev. A.
I don't think there is an easy way to change these settings on the Rezound (I'd like to know if there is.)
Generally, eHRPD is known for having data drops because of some network authentication issue. I have tried EVDO Rev A only mode and had less issues, but I have not tested this in a 4G area. Verizon may have fixed the eHRPD issues or they may not have.
Concerning your problem, I don't really have a guess what the problem could be. I can confirm that I have the CDMA selection in the network settings and that Network Speed confirms my network as eHRPD.
Procede with caution, since I am a Rezound noob: I would suggest running the RUU again along with the radios to see if it was a wonky radio flash. I can tell you that for some darn reason, I seemingly had to flash the radios on the Droid Charge several times in order fix some radio problems I had...

Beat me to your post. Are you in a 4G area? What speeds are you getting? I've never seen a phone get stuck on EVDO Rev A only mode with 1X still working. Try toggling 4G on and off and rebooting.
We don't live in a 4g area.
Update again:
My phone has switched over to eHRPD and things seemed to have calmed down. I did reboot it previously, and togggle airplane mode a few times and it didnt care about changing over from evdo.
I guess the weird toggling issue on her phone brought to light another issue that might be unrelated?
Thanks for the insight xdadevnube
Sorry if this has been asked before, I could not find it anywhere...
With my Evo LTE, if I have no 3G signal, I get no data at all (not using wifi). Is there supposed to be 1x data? With my Epic, I would bounce between 3G and 1x while at work, getting about 60 Kbps (horrible I know, but at least it worked). Now with my Evo, I either get 3G or nothing. Most of the time I get an error that there is no network connectivity, where with my Epic I never got that, it just worked slower at times.
So, is it a configuration issue, does the Evo not support 1x, or could I possibly have a hardware issue? I have domestic data and voice checked.
Well, this EVO does not want you to know whether you are connected with 1x vs 3g. So, on stock it will ALWAYS show as 3g. This is why you are going from 3g to no connection whatsoever.
If you are rooted, install a custom ROM as they all have the option of including this modification. If you would like to keep your current set-up, there is a thread to walk you through the necessary changes.

On a side note, the EVO also gets horrible reception in general. So although you will have a better idea of what your connection is, the fact of the matter is that your reception is probably not as good as it was with a previous phone.

Well, at least it makes me feel better knowing that it isn't a hardware issue. My voice reception seems better with this phone than my Epic, but data, not so much. Maybe LTE will magically fix all my issues? Other than a dead pixel, screen being a little washed out compared to SAMOLED, and reception issues, I still like my phone. Not sure if the SGIII would have better data reception where I'm at. Sucks that I have unlimited data, but just can't get at it.
I'm not convinced.
the first day our two after I got my phone, I had the same problem.
I tried changing from CDMA & LTE to CDMA only. That didn't help.
I then rebooted my phone. After that, data seems to work fine. My display sometimes shows bars with 3G, and sometimes simply bars only.
Before I rebooted, it never showed 3G.
I had even started a thread about it. But it seems to work fine now.

I've been having an issue with my LTE connectivity and was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same problem with their XT912 running CM 11-20140304. When I reboot my phone LTE works fine and doesn’t drop out, my network connection is pretty stable. However when I turn the data switch off to save battery, LTE will never reconnect and I have to reboot the phone to bring it back. I’ve tried connecting just to LTE and it kills all connection both data and cell service.
I've tried the following in hopes of correcting the issue. I booted into stock rom, wiped Dalvik+cache, got LTE connection on the stock rom, and booted back to CM 11 and the issue presisted. I then updated to CM 11-20140304 thinking that might do something, but it didn't. I been looking around and so far I haven't found much info, any ideas?
