Hey,
I'm looking for the best way to root my Samsung S2 phone without wiping it so that I can use TitaniumBackup and create backups of certain files/apps...etc
I've found the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 but I can't work out if it's correct for me it does mention "K**"
My phone's "about" information is:
Android Version: 2.3.5
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI8-CL616395
Build Number: Gingerbread.XWKI8
Baseband: I9100NEKI2
Any help would be much appreciated.
I think you can use siyah 2.6.14.tar with odin.

Hmm, I can't find any instructional thread for it, I did find the following file in the CF-Root post: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI8-v4.3-CWM4.zip which is XW_NEE_KI8: 2.3.5, CF-Root v4.3, SU 3.0.2, "insecure" it looks like it's for my ROM on my phone but not sure :S
Have you used odin before?
You just stick that file I said in PDA and hit start.

No, I haven't use ODIN before. Would the CF-Root zip in the last reply work for rooting this phone?
Yes.

Simple and easy just install Framaroot from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276 I use the 1.8.1 it roots JB as well in a split second. Update supersu and binary, install busybox installer to install latest busybox and thats it. Fully rooted without hassle. I must have done it a million times these 2 days trying to fix my imei missing, rooting and unrooting:crying:

Best part of using Framaroot is that you dun even need a pc as its an apk. I also use TB to remove and freeze bloatwares, those that keeps running in the background, eating up ram, data and battery.
.......and the best part of using odin methods is that odin/phone are setup to bail you out if something goes wrong.
So just pick one and do it, and cydia impactor is a 4th way......lol

I just tried to use ODIN and CF-Root but it does nothing, I'm in download mode and ODIN says:

Yet it's still stuck on the bootloader (download mode) and doesn't reboot or anything

Hi,
If I follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334 and root my phone, is there any option to put back the stock kernel i had? because like CF says, this kernel have bugs, so maybe i'll want to put it back to stock.
Plus, what CF version should I install according to the following screen shot?

Yes, but the main idea is to put an official kernel and the latest is the best one (kf2). You keep your root access with a very stable kernel and if you combine with modem kf2, you will have a very good configuration.
Edit: I just looking your screen capture. You can flash again ke7 kernel once rooting process if finish. You will keep root access.

CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KF2-v4.0-CWM4.zip ?
Does it fit with my device? watch my original post edit
Why not using litening v1.5 ? You will have everything (latest modem, kernel) and a very good firmware with CMW 4.0 embedded.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
actually i just wanted a root, i dont want any other rom , i want minimal changes..
Ok, I misunderstood you, sorry.
You need an insecure kernel and not a chain fire kernel
Edit : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
Edit2: flash an insecure ke7 one through Odin (quite same version of yours) and after reboot you need superoneclick Install on your pc. The main idea is to flash a custom kernel, do the root process and ref lash official kernel. This is the only solution.

And is this the proccess you suggested above?
Another question, will I be able to restore the device to a way which I can use my warranty if needed?
Thanks
If you have an official kernel installed, warranty should be preserved.
But odin flash counter can provide the information about this unofficial kernel flash you need to do in order to become root. To reset this counter, you need a small device called USB JIB available on ebay for 6 euros.
Thanks to this device, the yellow triangle will be removed (that warns you have an unofficial kernel) and the odin flash counter will be resetted.
So, this is why, installing custom firmware is not a big deal after that...

Hello, I performed the recommended upgrade from kies.
Then I rooted my phone for the third time (two previous were successful).
I followed the instructions from there: http://www.techjamaica.com/forums/s...ur-Galaxy-SII-by-a-2-day-old-Android-Newbie!& as per two previous times.
My phone now won't boot. It stays at the boot screen with the yellow exclamation point.
I tried to read relevant threads from here and the web. What I did is:
- removed the battery for 10 minutes, press the on-off button for some secs
- tried to connect it via Kies
- tried to connect it via Kies at download mode
- tried to re-root it via Odin (it said success but still cannot boot)
All above had no success. Now I am without mobile since early morning.
What else can I try to fix it?
Before rooting it, and immediately after the update, the phone was working.
Go to Recovery Mode and try Wipes...
Thanks. Will revert
ok I entered to recovery mode and wiped cache partition - nothing happened
should I wipe data/factory reset?
Ignore step 3 onwards and just flash a CF-root kernel matching your version. In other words, follow the instructions to root from this forum, not some random Jamaica tech forum.

1. Search before posting.
I have searched but I do not know which mode is best to install.
ΟΚ I did follow instructions exactly from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I rooted the phone successfully and I know it because now the recovery mode is different than the recovery mode before used the latest root.
However I still cannot boot. Should I hardware reset the device? Is this my only option?
Well nothing worked. I booted to "ClockwoorkMod Recovery v4.0.0.2" and deleted/wiped everything, even hardware reset it.
I am still stuck with the yellow exclamation mark. How is even possible that hardware reset doesn't working?
Please help.

Thanks oinkylicious. I think I made it this time. Please don't be very strict as its the first time I am messing with my phone and I will ask you for more info.
Never mind I managed to root it. I learned a bit of stuff about android these two days lurking here.
Hi, for a while I'm searching in the site before ask anything. I have a i9100
android: 4.0.4
i9100XXLQ6
Kernel 3.0.15-I9100XWLPT-CL941023
compilation: IMM76D.XWLPT
I want root my phone without flashing, because I want to backup all the data and config from application before install 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The past two weeks I read all the doc that I found, but there's nothing clear, at least, no clear for me, I have no knowledge about the process and initials you use here.
Please if anyone can post me the dummy guide, I'll appreciate. Thanks !!!!
Re: [Q] how to Root i9100 without flashing
Wt do you want actually? ?
Updated or root??
Pm me.
sorry for my bad english.
From what I understand you want to root the phone backup your apps and their data then update to 4.1.2.
If that is correct the easiest way is to flash a kernel like Siyah to get root use a backup app from the play store like gobackup that can backup the apps
and data then flash the update to JB, if you flash the stock ROM you will have to root again so you can restore you data since root is required for that.
It is best to only restore user apps and there data since the system apps will be upgraded

Sorry, but I didn´t find th PM !!!
My phone had 2.3.6 and with Kies I installed 4.0.1 and 4.0.4, but always after each installation I make a master reset, now have pass a long time using it and I have a lot of config that I don´t like to loose. My English it´s no good as well ...
So, I want to make root and use MyBackup PRO to save all the setting.
Then just flash a kernel that is rooted that workes on ics and make a backup but you will have to root again after the upgrade to restore your backup

I don't like reinstall, just using mine make root and save my config. Forgive me I that isn't what you say.

It's way better to read and learn a lot first. The fact you don't understand anything from the answers says enough: it's dangerous for you flash or root your phone as you will obviously do something wrong. No offense.

Any diferences between this and AMA3? Anyone know where we can get a changelog? Ty
I like a lot what you have offered to us. But what is changed, what new? Is it useless to make new rom just only updated superSU binaries.
I've tried flashing this ROM four times through Odin and it caused Windows to bluescreen on all four times.

Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100(T) Vodafone
PDA: I9100TDVLSM
PHONE: I9100TDVLS3
Android Version: 4.1.2
Kernel Version: 3.0.301-889696 [email protected]#3
Build Number: JZO54K.I9100TDVLSM
I'm having trouble working out what files I need to root my phone as there are so many variations, I don't plan on installing a custom rom I just want superuser access. There does not seem to be the correct kernel version for my phone in this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
The closest one I think would be GT-I9100T_DUKF2_insecure is that correct as I don't want to brick my phone if there is a chance using the wrong kernel as I don't have a spare one to use until I get it fixed. I have seen people suggest using I9100 instead and flash the modem but I don't want to do that or is this the only way?. I would have posted this in the kernel topic but I don't have the user permission to do so.
I will be using this guide http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-50004972/
Aside from the rom manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EwMiwiY29tLmtvdXNoaWtkdXR0YS5yb21tYW5hZ2VyIl0. Are there any other recommended apps that need to be installed after the rooting process
I'm only going to say two things :
1. Search for PhilZ kernel.
2. Don't install ROM manager. It's a safe bet to brick an i9100.
Sent from my GT-I9100: Powered by Dorimanx, running RootBox
I've got 2 more.
1) Stick to xda threads.
2) Search in the HUGE australian thread sticked in Q&A.
Sent from...this is not even my S2
I've got another one:-
If you can't work out how to root this phone without making a thread in Q&A given it was released two years ago, I'd question whether you should be messing with your phone in the first place. Read some threads (which people attempt to circumvent by posting threads like this; refer to my sig as to what happens to these people), settle on a method. It's not rocket surgery.
Edit - And another - If you're scared of bricking your phone, just don't go there. The moment you root your phone, kiss goodbye any expectation of warranty service.
