[Q] Nexus 7 Support - Themer General Discussion

I was wondering if/when the Nexus 7 (or any tablet at all) will get Themer support. I really like to be able to customize my tablets and other devices, so this app would be amazing if it could support it.

MIUI = IOS with a clock widget......
Ive had the a500 and the G tablet and neither had it. Maybe you can ask one of the phone dev s. I'm sure it's possible.
MIUI is far from iOS, it has some really nice features. I probably wouldn't use it but it would be great to see on the Prime.
Some tablets have had MIUI ROMs hacked onto them, like the Nook Color and Kindle Fire, but they were gingerbread versions. I don't think a properly tablet optimized version of MIUI exists.
MIUI V4 is the ICS version of MIUI, and therefore optimized for tablets. There are pictures of the Kindle Fire running it, just google image kindle fire miui v4.
Nook color also has it.

hp touchpad and galaxy tab 7" gsm both have it too. answer? totally possible. likelihood? im not sure... aosp is always a bit tougher to get everything to work on devices that arent aosp stock. example, my epic 4g touch STILL doesnt have an official version from miui, and the port on that forum, while awesome, is still missing hotspot and video camera only works on lowest settings.
however, MIUI open sourced their code recently, so porting, or building miui based roms should be easier than ever. i REALLY would like MIUI V4 on my prime... been a huge fan since OE Evo launch
kinda bumping my own thread hehe...pathetic but now that the bootloader is unlocked is any dev looking to get miui on the prime?

Well when CM9 comes out it will make it easy for MIUI to be ported. MIUI is based from CM work.

Just showing that it's possible. We just need a developer to work on it.

there are 3 developers from Miui.us working on it, Project_Fien_X, leeech and wizard0f0s. That's their twitter names. They keep telling me it's coming, but thats about it lol. I have been following this for a couple of months now and I keep asking the developers questions.
Thanks for the heads up! I'll make sure to follow the progress.

Question

Is it possible to have on display two applications at the same time? E.g. Chrome and google translate?
As far as I know: nope.
Only in Galaxy Note 2 is something like that.
There are some works here on XDA to port this feature to other devices... Even Samsung is going to port it to the SGS3. Just wait for now...
Isn't this a feature of android 4.2?
On my SGS3 it runs very good. Would be nice to have it on tablet.

When jellybean is available for the devices like the s3, note, and s2, this feature will be included from what Samsung has said. My note is waiting impatiently.

This is actually not a app. It has to be built into the framework of ROMs. There are a few ROMs for other devices that experimented with it but it has always been kind of buggy.

[Q] S4 vs HTC One? (3rd party support)

I'm in the market for a new device. My S3 is dying, and I want to get a new device. I am aware that the Nexus 5 and other smartphones are coming out, but they won't have the ROM maturity that I'd get from day one with either a S4 or HTC One. So, my question is as follows:
Which phone has better ROM support at this point, the S4 or the One? What I mean by support, is that which one would be more stable, and more "open". I know they are both Qualcomm, so I'd imagine they'd be equally as stable and open.
Thanks for any suggestions/advice!

Honestly, if you at all like nexus devices or aosp roms, wait for the nexus5. It's going to be like any other nexus phone and have tons of dev support right off the bat, all nexus devices do.

Is Ubuntu touch still using android as a base? I wonder how hard that would make this port considering the source available for the n5 is 4.4.

Ubuntu Touch has never used android as a base, you may be talking about this:
In the original porting guide, we had Android as the main OS, having Ubuntu separated in a container. We had that as our first solution as it's easier to just boot Android and bootstrap Ubuntu once Android is up and running (which was a base requirement for Touch). This architecture was traditionally called 'unflipped', and it's part of the raring and first saucy images we produced.
As we continued developing the platform, more issues we found with such architecture, making it harder to improve the quality for the Ubuntu side (ueventd x udev, full control of the services, upgradability of the compat layer, etc). So to be able to further improve the Touch images, we decided to flip the systems, making Ubuntu as the main host, and separating Android in a container, getting us to what we call 'flipped' images.

In any case the support will come in time, probably not from Canonical though, as they are quite busy at the moment If you want to read more about what is required in porting Ubunu Touch to a device check out this guide. (sorry for the formatting, I'm apparently not yet allowed to post links)

anything new on nexus 5?
XDA Developers has a news section. There was a post here. It states:
Not much is needed to get started. You need to be running Android 4.2 or higher on an AOSP-derived ROM, 2.7 GB of free space, ADB on your desktop and your phone’s bootloader must be unlocked. Currently, this has only been tested by Canonical on the Google Nexus 4, but they state that other Nexus devices should work as well.

I imagine they actually don't, I think at this point they have at least one handset lined up and are focusing development towards that unannounced device.
I do think someone is working on this in their spare time though

The Nexus line is the only true device they are supporting at this moment. You can find a list here with the devices that are/not on the official Ubuntu site.
I doubt we're going to be seeing another Ubuntu Edge coming out. That failed unfortunately but ti was a good project.

It is a business partner, so I'd assume that business partner is making the devices. Ubuntu Edge was supposed to be the team's first device with Ubuntu, but that KicKStarter project failed. But thanks for giving me that information. I personally haven' been following the foot steps of the development of Ubuntu Touch OS in awhile.
I'm thinking this may be the issue:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/DualB...phone_calls_to_work_in_Ubuntu_and_Android_4.4
The radio image shipped with Android 4.4 is reused on the Ubuntu side to make phone calls or use WiFi or sound, and it is not yet supported in Ubuntu.

If the radio currently isn't supported, we would kind of be SOL even with it booted up. They mention a fix, but that requires using a 4.3 radio, something not available to us.

I think I'll just drop that there.
I think that sums it up.
EDIT (13/01/2013 - 16:33):
According to OMGUbuntu! (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/01/ubuntu-touch-wont-support-nexus-5-will-drop-support-nexus-7-10) there will be NO official support for the Nexus 5. Though considering how awesome XDA is, I doubt that will put the determined off. Here's to an unofficial Nexus 5 ROM with convergence included!

I too have recently grabbed a Nexus 5. I really look forward to when we get a ROM for it because I really want to try it out. I think through patience I will be rewarded.
According to the irc channel, it's being developed.
