Looking for cheap dual core phone like above and which can play 1080p videos .....
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk
I think HTC Sensation would be the best choice.
I also wanted to.mention that which of them can best handle high definition mkv files ???
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk
Considering none of those phones have an hd resolution let alone 1080, it would be a waste of battery power and storage space to play this type of file. If you can, rip the videos to the native resolution of the phone and you won't have any issues playing videos on any of those devices.

1. Optimus 2X- You should go for this since it is an excellent device. It's graphic benchmark scores are the one of the highest to this date. It has a fast tegra 2 dual core processor, fine resolution, a lot of customizations (via custom roms), and much more. The only cons for this device is it's appearance - I'm sure you can live with that.
2. HTC Sensation- The problem is with the firmware. Some of the most famous issue with the sensation is 1). Sense screen hangs on some incoming calls making you unable to receive call and 2). The sense restart. Root your phone and install a custom Rom else take it to the service centre to flash the firmware and everything will be fine.
Let's go on the other point of Sensation.
Now there are few food things to mention first about HTC sensation.:
Wonderful user interface.
Very smooth browsing.
Good virtual keyboard.
Very good WiFi speed, and 3g is also pretty fast.
Very easy to handle, perfect in shape... Not took big, but best in size.
Bright interface.
Now let's talk about the negative aspects:
RAM should have been 1gb, but is slightly lesser, but doesn't matter too much.
Very bad loud speaker quality.
Front camera is vga, should have been atleast 2mp.
No video calling facility. But video calling can be done using software like SkyPE.
Sometimes the HTC sense UI crashes when using some heavy applications.
3. Motorola Atrix 2
I dont have a Atrix 2 but people are facing little bit problems with this phone.
Over all you can pick up the phone as per your choice.

I agree I think that the LG is the best of these phones. Personally I don't like sense and htc overall because of their bootloaders and other stuff but LG is just fine. It's easy to root and load up custom roms. I also have an LG and those are the reasons I took it instead of htc wildfire. I also think its faster and the LG doesn't have the infamous sense fc.

Must it be out of these three?
1. Optimus 2X will only be getting ICS in Q3 after just getting Gingerbread 2.3.4 in Nov last year.
2. HTC Sensation has been notoriously known to have unresponsive touch screen and a palm death grip. Not all Sensations, but quite significant amount and probability. Like my only one friend that owns one, and his house mate..
3. Motorola only just recently updated its ICS plans for their devices and Atrix 2 is getting ICS in Q3 as well and other than that I do not know much about its goods and bads.
What I want to suggest is, why not consider a Galaxy S2? At least, the international version GT-I9100? Because it has already gotten ICS and the dev support is huge therefore it is easy to root and have the latest firmwares (mainly also because Samsung did not lock its bootloader like HTC).
p.s. I wanted to post links to support what I said but I couldn't because I have not posted enough yet..

Hi have you read my reply yet? I realised we posted at the same time..
I would advise against an LG phone, they are notoriously poor quality. Maybe they have improved in recent years, but I know they did have a bad reputation and the LG I had for a while wasn't excellent. Some functions stopped working within days of getting the phone and would only work again after doing a factory reset and then it would only be a few days again. And occasionally it would randomly refuse to send or receive texts.
But maybe they have improved?

Recently read The Verge's review on their second latest flagship, LG Optimus 3D Max, apparently not. Just more rip-off design of Samsung (eg. the Galaxy S2 hump at the back) and poor software (e.g. Camera app crashing)..

Idk I have used my LG Optimus Me for about 5 months on stock before loading up CM7.2 Everything worked flawlessly and perfect. I never had go restart it or do anything to fix it. It just...worked So I would go for the LG. The only bad side was their customer support. I sent them a email regarding software updates. They said my phone will get upgrade. Two months later they said that it won't. And they won't give source codes for our device and their reluctance to do so gets on my nerves since it holds up development. But maybe its just because back then my Me was a mid-range device.

I think having CM7.2 work flawlessly on your Optimus ME is all thanks to the Cyanogenmod team, not LG. And like you said, what LG is doing is holding up the development of their devices, unlike Samsung.
So if the OP can also consider getting a Galaxy S2, that will be great
Thanks for your replies guys ....
Might just pull me up against lg....
But I think sensation or atrix would be to choose from ....
And about s2 ...its a bit out of my reach here ...costly still ...I would have got that for sure if I had enough $$$

Not exactly CM team but still not tanks to LG. But I think you misunderstood me. Stock Froyo was working perfectly. I went to CM for a bigger version of Android and more features. It is true however that LG holds up development but only of custom roms.

Well if the difference of the Galaxy S2 is too much then I would suggest Sensation because its dev support seems to be better than the other 2. Plus the international version of Sensation has already gotten its ICS update as well. So it has many ROMs available and also supported by the latest MIUI 4 if not CM9.
Ok. I'm planning to upgrade from my LG G2x (Wind Optimus 2X) to either with Galaxy S3 or the One X+ (North American - Telus Canada versions). I'm leaning to the S3, but I want to see if people on this forum can change my mind. My criteria:
- Real-life performance (benchmarks are moot)
- Battery-life
- Camera performance
- Construction quality
- Future proofing (ROM development both 3rd party or manufacturer)
Coming from the LG G2x, I've learned a lot of lesson on areas I've gotten burned. That's one reason I've ruled out the Nexus 4 (being LG) and that fact that 16GB is not freaking enough. Google is smoking dope if they think we can get everything off the cloud and don't need much storage...not when we're on a plane or in the subway. I've learned that nVidia is terrible and doesn't support or provide source code for the Tegra (at least for the Tegra 2), I've learned, that though the processor was great, the G2x was totally short on RAM 384MB (usable), I've learn that given all these issues both LG and developers here and there weren't spending much effort supporting the device.
I much prefer the design and construction of the One X+ over the Galaxy S3, I also prefer, Sense over TouchWiz, but I'm open to trying new ROMs, skins, and launchers. I prefer things to work well stock, out of the box, but again if I need to rolling in a new ROM (or just a nice update on Android, I'm happy to do so.)
So I've probably already convinced myself based on my criteria, the S3 is better choice for me, even though, I dread the look and the feel in hand, and the fact that it's as ubiquitous as the iPhone. So someone convince me otherwise to go with the One X+ instead.

I just came from the s3 and all I can say is if you like features speed and a beautiful phone one x plus is for you as for development the s3 is going to be best if you like switching roms

How do you find the battery life and camera compared to the S3? Reading reviews online and the battery thread here, I still sense the still S3 wins in those categories.

It depends on what ROM you plan to use for battery life. I can't make a solid answer about battery yet, but I will say if you plan on gaming it eats up battery pretty quickly. IMO, I prefer the One X camera. Audio quality on the one X plus seems better as well. My advice would be to go to a store and try both phones out and see which one is best for you.

The battery is about the same as my s3, that I owned for 4 months it's about 8-19 hours depending on how heavy I use my phone mostly tapatalk YouTube pulse facebook talk and texting all day with some GPS navigation. The camera is about the same, (HTC camera software blows Samsung's out the water) HTC one x wins all the way in my book, the phone works great s3 software is still ics stock while the one x is jellybean.
One thing I wanna note is the one x plus has no lagg at all the speakers on the s3 internal and external sucks compared to onex+

Not a lot gaming at all. More surfing, videos, and I tend to use navigation a lot when I'm travelling. I hate having my phone out of juice in the middle of the afternoon especially when I'm travelling in another city because I was using the navigation/GPS a lot.

For me personally there is also a non technical/specs related reason. I've always been a fan of HTC devices. Design, build quality and reliability is the best among Android devices. Eventhough competing brands might offer a specs wise slightly better device, I keep supporting HTC by buying their products. I want the company to stay in the Android phone business! Otherwise Samsung or Apple will soon be the only main manufacturers...
I also come d one s3 and j have a passion which is the concert, level video photograph, battery, the one x + is to superieur in s3 however that ci etait root

Agree 100% on HTC as company. In fact, I was using HTC for my two previous devices prior to going to the LG G2x. Again big regret going to LG. But times have changed a bit and Samsung is really pulling ahead in the Android market. My biggest concern with One X+ reading around is the battery life. Right now it seems some people are doing fine with while others are having some serious battery drain issues. I might need to get the device and try it a couple of days to really find out for myself.

Isn't there a 14-30 day period when u buy a phone that u can return it no questions asked with a new contract? If so, why does anyone need to tell anyone answers to questions they can figure out on their own? Lol. Get the S3, play with it for 10 days, return it for hox+, return it in 10 days, then stick with the one u like best. If u can't figure out battery life in 10 days then a smartphone probably ain't for u, lol! Some people
If you had to choose between phones, choose between the Optimus G or the HTC One X+. I say this because I personally want to spend $200 on a phone with 1.) Good Build Quality and 2.) not outdated Hardware (the S3 has a dual core, all phones now have quad core). If you want many ROMs, then get the S3. I've had all 3 phones, and I'm sticking with the One X+. Battery life is on par with S3, but the Optimus G has the best out of all. One X+ screen is on par with Optimus G, and they both blow the S3 screen. S3 and One X+ cameras are both good, Optimus G's is mediocre.
Hope this helped.

I'm in Canada, so things are a little different with our carriers. My current provider had a 30min voice and 50MB data usage limit to void the device return policy even though the period is 14 days. I'll have to look into Telus's policy more closely if they also have something similar. That and we have 3 yr contracts and better healthcare...
I just returned my One X+. I wanted it because I really like the 64GB of internal storage. Plus I was getting bored with my Galaxy S3. I knew I was losing RAM but figured it was worth the trade off (the U.S. GS3 has 2GB RAM vs 1GB for One X+).
I have the GS3 with AOKP and after using the One X+ I realized it is NOT faster than my GS3 like I was thinking it would be. I knew the One X+ was not as friendly to root and flash ROMs like the GS3 but I was willing to just leave it stock. It's not that it lagged or anything. It works great as is. It's just that having the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 (Nexus 4) it did not offer the performance boost I was looking for. As for the storage, my GS3 does have less internal storage but it does accept SD cards.
It does play better looking games than the US GS3 with its Adreno 225. It will get really hot playing the high end games but I had a case on so I didn't feel it as much. The One X+ GPU is not better than the iPhone 5 GPU or even the Nexus 4 with its Adreno 320. I knew that before hand but was still fine with that. I just mention it here in case you didn't know.
As for battery life, I had a PowerSkin on my One X+ that offers some protection AND has spare battery power if and when needed. So I didn't have a battery problem myself.
If your fine not having a device that's as friendly to hack and has as much developer support then I would say the One X+ would be good over the GS3. I didn't like that by keeping my One X+ stock that I couldn't disable all the bloat but it was a small price to pay I guess.

You do realize the one x+ has a 12 core gpu. IPhone 5 is a quad gpu and I'm not sure about the s4 pro.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
lol. You believe because it has more cores that makes it better? The “cores" are not equal at all. The GPU's are different. And although you see that number you are very mistaken to think that makes it more powerful. Its not. Its not even close to being the same.
No the iPhone 5 has a 3 core GPU. The iPad last I check has the quad core GPU to push all those extra pixels. Benchmarks can show how many frames the devices run loading and playing certain things. The iPhone 5 in mine and others who done it handles and plays way smoother with mores frames in those intense benchmark 3D tests.
I forgot some people can't accept a device they like or has being less powerful and beaten by other devices. In whatever area. I didn't mean to make think the One X+ GPU is not good. It just really is not better than the other two I listed. Once my devices GPUs are beaten by others I have no problem accepting that. In fact, I said the Tegra-3 was better than my Adreno 225 in my GS3.

I'm passing on the Optimus G and Nexus 4 as well given my bad experience with my LG G2x...it's probably the worst experience I've had with a phone.
I'm in the market for a new phone as I'm currently up for renewal on my Telus contract.
My main concern when purchasing a smartphone is the battery life. I do not play many games on my phone, and I primarily use it to check Flipboard, emails, facebook, and twitter periodically throughout the day.
I also really like cm10 - (currently use it on my fascinate), but I've never tried Sense 4+ or the LG rom so I'm not sure if I should take that into opinion or not.
Although LG has the S4 pro (which has a newer architecture), the HTC has the Tegra 3, which has the 'ninja' core. (as i dont play games I would probably be using this core 80% of the time). They both have the same 2100 mAh batteries.
In your experience, which of these two phones will have a better battery life?
http://blog.gsmarena.com/lg-optimus-g-battery-tests-are-done-here-are-the-results/
That's for optimus G. And I believe optimus G is gonna give u a better battery life. But u should check out note2 if u want bigger battery! Or even razr hd maxx!
Thanks! I'm leaning towards the Optimus G. But I might wait and see if the HTC DNA comes out or not! that phone is a beast and it seems to have spectacular battery life from reading the forums

The title may be a little misleading. I currently have the Optimus G (AT&T) and it's just not doing it for me. For one, I like a bright screen, but the phone likes to heat up even when surfing the web and auto-dims the brightness, not allowing you to brighten due to high temperature. That is annoying. I do like the phone, the screen (other than the yellow tint on the bottom, eh) and the UI. Pretty nifty UI. But, the heating issue, the battery, and not having control over my screen is just not keeping me. This is the second Optimus G that I've gotten, the issues are just the same.
With the One X+ do you really feel the difference between 2GB and 1GB of RAM? The Optimus G is constantly using 1gb of RAM, even on idle.
What are really the key features to a One X+ over the Optimus G? Yes, I know updates. lol
Thanks!

Well the OG has a better processor, but the HOX+ has better build quality, good quality display, 64 gb storage, I personally haven't noticed any slow downs. The audio quality is pretty good as well. If you are a gamer you also get the tegra exclusive games. Hope I somewhat helped, if you want any specifics just say and I will answer

I can't even express how appreciative I am, that I now get to discuss this with somebody.
It's no denying that my Optimus G is freaking fast with no hiccups (That and man, the Optimus UI is actually pretty nice).
I just want smooth everything. Gaming isn't TOO big for me, but I do like it. And I would like if my phone didn't heat up so easily and knock the screen brightness down.
Just how good is the battery life and how good is the screen in comparison? If possible, do you have the information on how much RAM your phone uses in idle? (960mb in idle for the Optimus G, roughly).

The HOX+ uses about 600-750mb when idle depending on apps installed.

Oh, wow. I guess an extra gig is pretty useful, then.
Performance wise you won't know difference - unused ram for android is wasted ram, to put it simple
I had both and sold the lg. The one x+ is better for me. It has better sound, better camera and better build quality. The lg felt to me like it was going to break way too easily, and its creaky when you hold it firmly. The one x+ feels a lot better in the hand as the lg is wider and more square. The speed is about the same when comparing them side by side. Apps opened at the same speed and web pages loaded at the same speed. The battery life seems to me that its better on the htc. I really like the way the htc handles word wrap on the stock browser, you can zoom in as much as you want and the words fit the screen. Another thing is that the lg has a menu button instead of the recents button, even though this can be changed with software it is kind of annoying. The one x+ has jellybean out of the box and the lg may never get it.

The only thing I feel like the OG has over the X+ is customization. I really like how slick everything is. The lock animation, the dew drops, everything. But since I stumbled back into a 2 year contract with AT&T, I need a phone that will last and be updated normally.

Updates is something that you can't really be sure to rely on with any manufacturer, so that's great for our X+ to start off with JB 4.1.1

I came from IOS6 to ICS on this Optimus G. That alone was the best transition ever. Being able to actually do stuff, ah...
Is JB really that better?

I had an Optimus G and currently am using One X+. The difference in performance between the two is going to become obvious real quick, sorry. The Optimus G does everything smoothly and effortlessly, and the only instances where I see lag is browsing Flash heavy websites and waiting for items to load in Market while scrolling. The One X+ lags basically everywhere. What the One X+ has advantage-wise over the LG is camera, build quality, and the 64 GB internal storage. Battery life and component temperatures between the two is a tie.

I haven't intimately used the X+ yet, so I can't decide whether this is true or not. I can verify that the OG is freaking smooth, but I wouldn't expect the X+ to be far off.
Heat doesn't really bother me, it's just that the OG obnoxiously auto-dims the screen that bugs me.
TRF-Inferno must have a bad device because mine is very smooth. Now I did try using the Nova launcher and it does lag for some reason. Other than that my experience with the one x+ has been great. Like I said before, when I had both the HTC and LG optimus g side by side they performed alike. But, my LG's battery would drop 10% every hour and my one x+ only drops 5% every hour. All I'm saying is that both phones are fast and smooth. I know it will cost but, you could add a line and try the HTC for a week and if you don't like it you can return it. If you can find it at Walmart, they don't even have a restocking fee. Just a thought. Other wise your going to get 100 different people with different opinions.
Edit: Dang it TRF-Inferno, its all your fault, you got me comparing my daughter's one x to my one x+ and her's is just as fast as mine at browsing and loading apps. Now all I have is more storage than her. Thanks a lot.

As far as I can tell OP, the One X+ is freaking awesome. I LOVE everything about this phone because 1) It has the 64 gb storage that ill probably never even come close to filling 2) The JB that comes right out of the box 3) The camera is great but sometimes lacks quality in low light 4) Its build is just great, the rubber backing, the size and the quality of it is just great 5) Dropped it in the toilet and it still worked after with no defects when I fully dried it off 6) The beats audio equalizer when you have headphones in does make a difference for sound 7) How loud the speakers are 8) The slimness of the phone 9) It is the exact same size as the HTC One X which is great because cases from the original can fit it 10) It has everything that I want in a phone (personal opinion).
One thing I dont like is how hot it can get when you are gaming for awhile (playing graphics demanding games). Doesn't take long to cool down though so don't worry. I think its because of the rubber backing that holds the heat in. Ask me anything else!
I had the Optimus coming from the Galaxy S 3 for 3 days and had a couple of complaints. The first one was that it felt too big in my hands. I loved the way that it was built except the screen. It scratched way too easily which was my second complaint. A case with it would just make it too huge so I decided to go with the one x+. The building quality is amazing. I am not a big fan of sense so I just pop nova Launcher over it. I don't feel like the Optimus is a bit faster. It may be due to the RAM but I can notice it.

The Optimus G was the only other phone I was considering instead of the HTC One X+. In the end I never went to the store to look at it. I just liked the One X+ so much that I never got around to checking out the Optimus G at the AT&T store. I ordered the HOX+ online.
One of the issues that really concerned me about the Optimus G was the shape being more 'squarish'. My hands aren't terribly big, but, I can still use the HOX+ effectively with one hand. Don't know if that would still be possible on the Optimus G.
In the end the biggest problem I had with the Optimus G was that it is manufactured by LG. It is quite possible they are going to continue/start making quality phones, but, I was definitely leery after previously owning one of their 'non-smartphone' models.
So now you know why I'm hanging out here instead of the Optimus G forum.

And rightfully so... I worked at Sprint and AT&T for many years, and I can't tell you how bad a reputation LG has to the EMPLOYEES, let alone the customers. When the Rumor came out (basic messaging phone), the charging port was so fragile that it would snap off the board if you so much as looked at it funny. It got so bad, our area were directly replacing ANY customer with a Rumor with a Rumor 2, no questions asked. Oh yeah, and that phone proved JUST as bad. I myself had an LG Thrill that I purchased full price, and I had to replace it twice in a week due to overheating, rebooting, lag, etc. It got so hot that the adhesive around the screen MELTED and dripped black goo down the inside of the screen.
That being said, I was dead set on geting the new Nexus, until Google announced they were going with LG. I'll wait until next year, where it's hopefully Motorola or Sony.
Recently i have been debating on switching to the lg optimus g on att from the x+. I am on viper ROM but I feel very limited with the 1 gig of ram, multitasking isnt very good (Even after tweaking it in venom tweaks). What attracts me to the lg is the 2 gigs or ram, s4 pro, and the unique design. I do like the one x+'s design, very durable and solid. I feel like with the quad s4 pro and 2 gig of ram it is quite an advantage in performance and perhaps battery life. Camera on the x+ is more often average that good. What's everybody else's opinion on the optimus g?

Make sure you like stock LG skin. last i saw there wasnt much dev going on there. I still recommend Elegancia over viper for many many reasons.
You can get Cyanogen 10.1 on the LG Optimus G. But then again some day soon we will be able to do the same on the NA HOX+ thanks to Lloir's effort.
Before you give up on the HOX+, try Elegancia or Blackout on it. Just keep it very simple, don't flash lots of mods. Try the de-Sensed Elegancia too with an experience closer to Android stock by using Nova or Apex launchers, you might like it. Sense tends to be a bit of a memory hog so it may help performance.
