[Q] Odin fails to flash stock ROM on bricked S5830i - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I am a first-time poster on XDA, but I've read loads on this site and want to thank everyone who contributes to it!
I managed to soft brick my S5830i while flashing a dodgy ROM, and am trying to unbrick. I've been trying to do this by flashing stock firmware through Odin, but I'm not having much luck so far. I keep getting write fails. I've used multi-file firmware (through Odin v1.85/v3.07) and single-file (through Odin v3.07). I've re-downloaded several different versions of firmware, and none have worked (i.e. I don't think it's a file error). I've tried with the cooperve .pit file, tried with the bootloader. I've turned off my antivirus. I've taken the SIM and micro SD cards out of my phone (I've tried taking the battery out as well, but then my drivers stop working!). I can boot into download and recovery, otherwise I'm stuck on a boot loop.
Odin has failed a couple of dozen times with different files, and sometimes just times out while initializing.
I feel like I'm running out of options - if anyone has any fresh ideas, I'd be grateful to hear them!
Thanks very much,

Error mounting /system
Thanks Hitesh
I had a go at your instructions. I've wiped the data and cache multiple times as you suggested, but I'd not thought of formatting /system, so I hoped it might work. It didn't - it looks like I can't wipe it... I get an error message:
Formatting /system...
Error mounting /system!
Skipping format...
Done
I remember having problems mounting /system because of the ROM which bricked my phone in the first place! Maybe that's the problem? Any thoughts on how to get round it?

Thanks again,
In case it helps anyone else following these instructions, I found the tool. Search for "multiformatter" [note spelling]. The thread is number 2012003 and is called "[TOOL] Multi Formatter [EXT4 to RFS vice versa]" - go to page 6 as Hitesh said.
Okay, so I got the tool, flashed it on my phone, formatted everything to RFS. Once it finished I went into download mode, and tried flashing stock... still no luck! I've tried different files, different versions of Odin, different USB ports and it always gets stuck at initializing and hangs.
Any thoughts? I'm really grateful for the help so far.

Just to get closure on this thread,
I continued trying everything I could to flash different versions of firmware through Odin. It was a big help to format the system in RFS, so thanks for pointing that out. After that fix, Odin was still unable to communicate with my device... but after realising that the underlying problem was now dealt with, I moved on to flashing through CWM. I didn't manage to get anything done with Odin - might be my (only!) USB cable, or my USB ports, or any of the other millions things that could go wrong with it. But I successfully flashed AndroidScream in recovery and am up and running.
Thanks again Hitesh, and also to the whole XDA community!

Hi
I am having the same problem with odin (3.7 and 1.84), its just not flashing the stock roms. I am running out of ideas and getting desperate. When you say you "formatted the system in RFS" do you mean you factory wiped your phone? If that is the case then no luck for me

A Galaxy Ace Plus is not the equivalent of GT-S5830i. They most probably don't have the same chipset either, so DON'T TRY FLASHING GT-S5830i STUFF ON YOUR GT-S7500.
Instead, seek help on the relevant forums, and Google is also your friend.

Just Follow these TUT

Above all, do you have the Samsung USB drivers installed?
For CWM, there is a flashable temporary CWM, and several custom kernels already have CWM as the default recovery.

Please post the links as i dont know which thread to search for as i m nt familiar with d device

Just wondering have you tried updating samsung drivers on PC? Possible drivers are corrupted - worth a shot. Then try battery out hold buttons battery in method.
But JTAG is too difficult to use and expensive.

I understand what you're asking but i'm asking what you touched. Is it either the boot animation or bootlogo sheesh. have you tried this? Home + Volume Down + Volume Up + Power
Even recovery mode not working? Try battery out-in method and try for recovery, ignore download mode for a while. If successful then use ADB and go to download mode.
problem: I can only download mode. and always stuck in the process of ODIN. (soft brick)
finally take it to the SSC, but they gave up and ordered the engine change
I was curious because Ace has not totally dead.
I tried to reinstall Kies + try switching usb ports, up to 2 days I tried and finally succeeded. there seems to be a problem on my Ace. because it can fill the battery but could not usb storage. so sometimes the usb storage. now I do not dare to Clean ROM or flash the stock ROM, later stuck again .... hehehe
Well, I installed CM7.2 last night (successfully). Today i tried to reflash a stock rom with Odin, but finally I've got a nice bootloop. So i reinstalled the CWM with the factory recovery, and restored my CM backup.
I think to revert the phone to stock firmware is not possible atm.

As long as you can acquire the download mode, you can bring back your phone.
Odin will flash the stock boot and recovery partitions (along with others), and from the stock recovery you can restore the phone to your previous state.
In my case: I wanted to reflash the stock rom (was using cm7). After some forum reading, the solution was easy: since all custom kernels (including Cm7) using the more advanced Ext4 FS instead of the VFAT based RFS (stock roms), I restored my CM7 rom, downloaded the Ext4 Manger.apk from XDA (search for it), convert all partitions to RFS, then ODIN successfully flashed the stock rom.
Hope it helps someone.

[GUIDE] REGAIN 100% WARRANTY from NANDROID BACKUP [WITHOUT ODIN, Stock Recovery]

Greetings xda,
I wanted to COME back to complete 100% warranty from my current Custom Rom using a stock nandroid backup, after skimming the entire SGA Forum, I couldn’t find an all-in-one thread whichs contains a guide to regain 100% warranty including stock firmware, stock recovery, Unroot. I was even told that recovering to back to a stock backup is not possible if you have used an ext4 custom ROM. So I decided to handle this on my own. I hope you find this handy.
Flashing using odin might be easier but I bought my Ace from an Arabic region and i got the JPKP9 firmware. Unfortunately ,most samsung firmware websites lack the MODEM file of the firmware. So in order to address the issue I made this guide to enable people to restore their stock roms from a nandroid backup. Hence, THIS DOES NOT REQUIRE ODIN.
Table of Contents:
A). Requirements
B). Procedure
C). Tests
D). Credits
A). Requirements:
- Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830) [rooted]
- A stock firmware backup (you might have created this before flashing roms)
- eu.chainfire.cfroot.ext4manager-1.apk*
- Clockworkmod 5 *
- Stock Recovery files *
- Unroot.zip*
*: Inside “WarrantyRegain-UsmanJ.rar” (don’t extract the .zip files)
B). Procedure:
Step 1: Download the “WarrantyRegain-UsmanJ.rar” from HERE.
Step 2: Install the eu.chainfire.cfroot.ext4manager-1.apk file which you downloaded. Run the “ext4” application you installed, it might give you an error if you are not using CF-Root but don’t mind it. Scroll down and click “Convert to rfs”. Your mobile will boot into recovery, Wait for 10-20minutes as it will change the format of System, Data and Cache partition to rfs. Once over, your mobile will restart.
Step 3:Now go to Recovery and head over to “Backup and Restore” and and restore using the stock firmware backup you have. This will take approximately 3-5 minutes. One you have finished: Reboot phone. Congratulations, you have done 60% of the warranty regain process.
Step 4: Once you have restored to Stock Firmware, it is time that you now restore to Stock Recovery. Boot into Recovery again and flash the “Stock_recovery_S5830_2.3.x._by_ingbrzy.zip” you have downloaded. Once you have successfully flashed. Go to Advanced and Reboot Recovery. Now you are in the Stock Recovery.
Step 5: Now flash the Unroot.zip file you have downloaded earlier. Once you have successfully flashed, reboot.
CONGRATULATIONS NOW YOU HAVE GAINED 100% TRUE WARRANTY: Stock Recovery, Stock Firmware and Unrooted.
C). Tests
This method is tested and proved successful on the following Custom ROMS:
- StockLite v6 by tj_droid
- CM 7.2 RC1 by vo-1 (update 26/3/12)
- Bound to work on most ROMs.
D).Credits:
- Ingrbzy: for Stock Recovery
- Gganon: for unroot.zip
- Chainfire and KPK: for ext4 support app (I extracted rfsmaker.zip from it)
- Me: For compiling this guide (Just Kidding )
Don’t Forget to hit the Thanks Button as this is my first MAJOR post on xda.
EDIT: All those people who saying flashing using odin in easier, then let me remind you, i bought my ace from an Arabic region and i got the JPKP9 firmware. Thank you very much for posting this solution.
After being awake all night i finally was able to restore my stock nandroid backup successfully thank to you.
And yes this method is important for those people who want to go back to what they previously had, in my case i updated my brothers Ace to JB 4.2.2 which after using for a while he asked me to revert it to what he had before{gingerbread} but sadly for me i didnt take any note of what kernel or rom his phone was running at that time and more importantly he needed all his whatsapp messages and other important data.
I only knew that he got his from uk but after going to samfirmwares i was unable to understand which firmware to download due to my little mistake making me more hesitant on what to do.
Finally after searching i found your thread and was able to restore the backup within 15 min
there are no words to describe how thank full i am to you for posting this thread

GT-s5830i is not compatible with GT-s5830 model!!! They have different SoC, if you use the s5830 files could brick your phone!
Try to install a compatible rom with the compatible odin version of your device

[Q] S5839i - Soft brick boot loop?

Hi all,
I'm trying to recover a Galaxy Ace GT-S5839i, alas to no avail so far. Here are the symptoms
• It was being used to play a game, suddenly became very sluggish, game was exited and the phone shorty after froze on the menu.
• Phone is completely stock, unrooted etc
• Now, the samsung logo shows, the blue screen animation starts, and then reverts back to samsung logo etc. Stuck in a boot loop !
• So far, flashing has only be done with Odin, and without an SDcard present.
• I've tried doing a full reset and wipe partition cache before flashing anything; I've also tried it again a few times in between versions.
Here is what I have done so far :
• Flashed different versions of the OS, all legitimate, from both S5830i and S5839i - CSC, modem and PDA files
• As a last resort (so far), I even tried flashing the bootloader and added the .pit file to flash, both of those being from an "unbrick tutorial".
Quite frankly, this is as far as I can go before asking for advice. After flashing a clean rom with odin, this is the message I get upon reboot :
It then reboots and starts looping again... It this related?
What might the next steps be?
Many thanks for your time,
Tony

Many thanks for your time,
Tony

If it is in the guarantee time give it for repair and say it is not opening and since you didn't rooted it would not be a speck of resistance from their side I suppose
My deep sympathy with you
Flash xxla4 repacked firmware from the unbrick tutorial thread along with the boot loader file..no need pit.Use Odin 3.04 .I got the exact same error and solved it by the above method.Hope it works for you!

Do a wipe /data. It helped me in every bootloop I had.

Nothing to be afraid for if you're using the right file.
Well, as it happens, the phone got stolen, so I never got to try the repartition. As least I reconcile in the fact the thieves stole a bricked phone...
Thanks anyhow for the advice and help.

Your device is soft bricked. You have to restore stock ROM via ODIN.
Also note that themes of a custom ROM doesn't work on stock rom! If you install one of them then your phone will be unstable.

Boot to recovery and wipe data and then reboot system now

[Q] Some ROMs boot, others stuck at boot!

Hi,
My I9100G is now on CM10.1.3 with CM stock kernel, everything is working great, but whenever i try to flash a different ROM or kernel, i get stuck on the bootscreen!
Except for samsung stock ROM and CM which work as well.
I have tried the following:
1- Wipe everything(data, cache, dalvik cache, format system) and do fresh installs.
2- Flash JB bootloader.
3- Un-root and re-root.
4- Try different recovery (CWM, TWRP).
5- Nand backup and restore works fine.
6- I forgot a couple of things, probably.
I miss trying out new ROMs and kernels, help an addict get his juice :silly:
I'm using ROM and kernel CWM cleaning scripts and I hadn't had any bootloops after ROM flash. I highly recommend this. Google ''i9100 ROM wipe script''. I also use the kernel wipe script, from the same xda thread.

JB Bootloader? Not enough flash a kernel with root? However if he does not work try to put a ROM stocks and to send it in for support service.
I do hope you're flashing stuff meant for the I9100G, and not the I9100.
Still problem persists

Service will cost a lot of money as Samsung's service in my country (EGYPT) are greedy ********* and also their service is not professional.
Besides, if i send it, what will i send it for? Stock ROM already works!

If you already changed the recovery, you've voided any warranty, Samsung won't do anything for you anymore.
You're on the dark side now

He can always flash stock firmware using Odin.
To OP: It's really bizzare. Using wipe scripts prepares the device for flashing any ROM. I'm assuming that no download errors occurred (MD5 check is ok), that the ROM is matching your phone's model and that you're using a proper recovery.
Flash a different kernel (cwm or twrp based) and flash the ROM with it.

I have sent my phone a couple of times for service before the warranty expired, reset binary counter and flashed stock ROM, no problem.
MD5 checksum fine, ROM matching phone model, recovery i have been using for a while.
Will try TWRP and report back, thanks
So i cleaned up the system and flashed the Blazing safe kernel and now it got kinda interesting...
After using the scripts to clean everything up, then i flashed the kernel again to double check i had recovery, i tried to flash the ROM i wanted which is Cyanfox, it gave me an error.
Updating bla bla bla....
.
.
.
This package is is for "i9100g,GT-I9100G" devices;
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/emmc/......'
Error flashing zip '/emmc/bla bla'
Updating partition details...
After that i tried the SLIM ROM 4.2.2, frankly i don't remember where i got it from as it was sitting there for some time.
Anyways it worked and that's weird...cyanfox was supposed to work as other users say it worked for them.
Also when Slim was flashed it had CWM, which i opened and tried to flash cyanfox with it...and it flashed without errors but still stuck at boot logo screen!!
What's the problem here?? :silly:
So, anyone?
Is this in the right section in the first place?
My phone is a GT-I9100G model.

Try asking here mate. :good:
Solved
Thanks, but i found the solution to my problem.
Actually i had multiple problems:
4.4 ROMs will flash but will not boot.
Some ROMs will not even flash giving error in CWM (status 6, status 7 ).
Regarding the first problem, i found a thread mentioning that Kitkat ROMs are not all supported by CWM (Sorry i can't seem to find it again :/ ), and that a particular CWM version 6.0.4 will solve that. Too lazy to search for and get, and came across another solution, where aidfarth released his version of a Kernel supporting 4.4 Kitkat, with TWRP instead of CWM which solved the status 7 error.
Further reading is for the other two error solutions.
So i went on and tried to flash that kernel, giving me the status 7 error in CWM, which brings me to the next error.
Regarding the second error, status 7 in CWM, it could be solved by manipulating a script in the ROM or zip in general that you want to flash, this link will demonstrate, it's what i followed.
So i followed, edited the ZIP file and whatnot, then i tried to flash it in CWM, then got the status 6 error.
This will require the same steps as how you solved the status 7, but it has to do with UNIX encoding, this link is what i followed.
Thanks all for replies.

All Kinds of odin flash fails!!!!

Whenever I'd tried to power on it was stuck there. Then I tried odin flash stock latest NG3 rom and the phone asked for pit. After this it's not working anymore except the Download mode. It shows on odin but when I try flashing anything it fails all the time. Please if anybody can help me on this :crying:
I had never have a problem of this kind while flashing other devices hundreds of times but this one.

@mistermish2000, I'm not a pro but I believe that your partition is corrupted.
If you flashed with PIT selected then you can try to use a recovery firmware for your device from XDA. That would be a last resort though.
thanks RazorMC. I tried with stockrecovery file with no luck, but can u suggest any recovery firmware for the I9300 version please. I'm also looking but if u know any that worked before please suggest. thanks again

No this is a sign of complete eMMC failure see this post >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/problem-white-screen-black-lines-rain-t2467459 << I have never seen anyone recover from this and I have seen quite a few posts with the same problem. Service repair recommended :crying:
Try reading the 'dead boot repair solution' thread in general forum, a repair shop with a z3x box will be able to tell you if the emmc is totally fried.
