What issue is this? I would have full bars but no 3g/4g icon on the notification bar. I click on the internet, and it would say no data. or "retry" or something along the lines of no data communication.
That is the first issue.
Second issue: When I make calls, anyone notice that the 3g/4g icon disappears on the notification bar? Is that normal?

By the way, I can't make a call either when I don't see the 33/4g icon... no data, no calls... but full bars. HELP!
Is this a phone issue, a network issue? Who do I goto for help?
If you happen to know anybody else on Sprint in the same area, you might see if they are having similar issues. It's possible Sprint is doing network maintenance/upgrades in your area. If not, you should first try updating profile and PRL from a Sense ROM. Afterwards, if the issue persists, you can do a reset from your dialer menu (##72786#) using a Sense ROM. You can also try ##786#. Just hit the menu button and choose the reset option. Be warned that ##786# will reset your phone as though you're doing a factory reset, but it will essentially reprovision your service. You'll need to be on a Sense ROM to do any of the things I've mentioned above.
As far as the correlation between 3G and the signal bars, the bars indicate voice signal strength, not data signal.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE

Is there anyone who is working on using a app to make all sms messages and data while on Wifi at home or work. I live in a town with not so great signal so im always on wifi but i still need signal to send and recieve messages calls.
I was wondering if it was possible to do this with a app or mod the rom to function this way.
That way i may also end the Radio Interference Shortage i see all to much do to from what i can figure is the phone bouncing on and off sprints network to roaming so often. ( seems to be worse on wifi.)
If you use the Google voice integration, it only sends over data connection.
Thanks for the info i just was reading about that. But looks like the only option.

personally, i have been using google voice for two years now and it was worked very well. when i have low cell signal but have good wifi or 4g, i open up the app and text.
if i have low wifi/4g signal but good cell signal, i text from the built in message app using SMS.
as a possible alternative, i've seen a new app being promoted, DeskSMS, from koush (ROM Manager developer). i haven't used it personally, but the main idea is to congregate all your text messages into one location so you can access from all devices. if you want to research more on DeskSMS, there is a lifehacker article reviewing it, here is a lifehacker article on it and the android market page.
edit: an airave is definitely a decent alternative if you're on sprint and need better service on one specific location. the OP posted his whole town has signal issues both at his work and at home and specifically questioned any apps be available to help handle better sms communication. an airave could solve your signal issues at home and at work, but is location dependent. i was able to get an airave from sprint for my home location at no charge due to our long tenure as a sprint customer.
hope that helps!
sounds like you may want to look into getting an airave, its a device that you hook up to your home internet that broadcasts service up to 1000ft from the unit..
Kind of like a wifi router but for EVDO
ok i got a i717 note and a att striaght talk sim card. I finially got the APN setting that came with the straight talk sim to save. Phone is making calls and messaging but the data services are not working. What am i doing wrong?
If your settings are like the ones in the screenshots I posted, then I would say there is likely problems with data im your area.
my settings are the exact same. no luck

also my carrier says "HOME" in the top left corner. I wonder if this has something to do with it?
Mine displays HOME when I pull down the notifications window and only for a few seconds when in the lock screen. Other than that it doesn't display HOME from what I've noticed. I don't think you have to worry about the what is displayed as the carrier's name. Since you are able to make phone calls and received messages (both SMS and MMS?) and the only thing that is not working is just data, then it's probably something in the phone configuration or a problem in your area. If you haven't done so yet I would recommend contacting Straight Talk.
What symbol, if any, do you have to the left of the signal bar?
I know this probably isn't the case but did your turn Wifi off? If not try turning it on or off and making sure it stays off so you can connect to the data network.
I don't know if you have done so but you could try a factory reset, not sure if this would help.
If none of the above works you could try rooting and flashing the AT&T stock rom to the phone or some other rom. (Consult this recommendation with someone more experienced here on the forums. Personally, I don't see more troubleshooting options.)
If there is no problem with the network and none of the above works then I think your phone may be damaged, unless it used to work perfectly with AT&T. Did you switch from AT&T to Straight Talk or did you buy the buy through ebay or on the street to activate ti with them?
For the last couple of weeks, I've been going in and out of roam in my office on my EVO 3D (which Sprint support has been useless for). Just got my EVO LTE yesterday and was hoping that it might have better signal strength, but alas I'm still in and out of roam. However, the problem is now with my EVOLTE, it always give audible notification whenever I go into roam, no matter what the settings. I've turned off all roaming notifications and have set the phone itself to both vibrate and silent, but still get the audible notifications. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
I dont know what I did but I have the problem at my office- Signal is horrible and will roam at times and I dont hear anything like a roam notification.
EDIT: Go into Settings and click on Mobile Network. From there uncheck data roaming sound and click on roaming guards, make sure domestic voice and data are unchecked.
That should work!
Thanks for the response, but I've tried all that and still get the audible notification. I'll keep screwing with settings I guess.
I was in England the last 2 days,i was just using wi-fi when there but it constantly gave a notification that there was no data connection in the notification bar, i unticked use packet data and obviously i didn't have data roaming selected but the notification would always reappear even after clearing it, not a big deal but does anyone know how this notification kept showing and can i prevent it from happening again?
no one know about this?
I've exactly the same problem. I was told to just keep the packet data and roaming box ticked. But to me that just seems silly. It has to be a bug as the s2 didn't have this problem.
Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with my device since yesterday. I wanted to make calls but as soon as I try to call someone I was getting "couldn't connect message"
I thought that it's maybe something to do with the carrier but i restarted my device, and after the restart I saw that I now only have 4g, and not 4g+ displayed, and still got the couldn't connect message then trying to call anyone. When switching to 3g/2g in settings I was able to call, and I was also able to receive calls even when on 4g.
My internet is working fine over mobile data, there were no issues with it.
Also, VoLte icon is being displayed all the time, thatdidn't go away.
At some point yesterday I was able to make calls over 4g again, but never regained the 4g+ and a few calls dropped after 5-6 minutes of talking.
I tried a SIM card from a different provider, but still see just 4g, and not 4g+
So I am not sure what could be the issue anymore.. Did anyone maybe encounter something similar after this last update? Maybe that's the issue. I don't know if I should consider suspecting a hardware issue because internet works fine all the time.
Clear system cache, clear sim toolkit data, and do a network reset.
See if that gets it...

Thanks for the tip!
I actually tried doing all of that and nothing was helping.
At the end I changed the CSC back to my stock one (TOP) and 4g+ is back.
I have no idea why this happened because I was using BTE csc for months and everything was ok. I'm just glad that it's not a hardware issue.
