Sending phone in for fix up. Need help. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey,
Well my phones digitizer is failing and is very sensitive. If I press hard enough it'll make some dead pixels. The screen is also out of place on the phone. The top right corner of the screen is inside of the frame. If I send my phone in will it give me my EVO back or a newer phone like everyone was talking about in that on thread?
Would they care if its S-off? And rooted?

Sprint its a $100 deductible.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk

The issue of the phone being rooted and S-off seems to vary. I've seen some people mention that Sprint didn't care, while others mentioned having issues getting Sprint to fix or replace devices based on the fact that it's rooted. As far as whether or not you'll get your phone back or get another EVO LTE, I'm not sure how that works. When my wife had her S2 the power button went bad and I took it to Sprint, who replaced it with another S2.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE

Probably replaced with an EVO LTE as they still have em in stock and you can even still purchase one for free with a contract. I suggest taking it in to Sprint first before doing the Asurion deductible. Sometimes they replace free of charge. Ps deductible is actually $150, I had to get one myself a while back..

I agree, for now there's little benefit of having s-off. For me, I prefer not to have my device listed in htc's database as being unlocked.
More importantly however, once there are other updates such as radios, and other low level updates, the process to update will become more convoluted I think. You'll have to run relock (I think), then ruu, then unlock again, then restore.
With S-off, you simply flash the new radio or other update and it's a done deal.
Wouldn't s-off be necessary for switching between carriers? Since LTE wouldn't be available until 2013 for some markets why not save a few dollars.

your not switching b/w carriers with this device....even with S-Off....hardware is not there to work on the other freq, esp other LTE ones....
Well that reinforces why I am sticking with my OG EVO 4g on Virgin, I just can't stand to pay $90 mo for the same service at $35 mo.

Ok off to buy this beauty before they alter it somehow - besides I can gift it off to girlfriend if it can't be done.

Are you sending your phone to HTC for warranty issues because "most" device "fixing" happens at the Sprint store level OR through Asurion and they don't hold root/HTC Dev unlock against you.
Saving your HTC warranty is practically a moot point..... but as always, to each, his own. I'm sure you won't see anyone knocking you for going your own road.
I don't waste money on insurance. Once I've had the phone a couple weeks and know it doesn't have any defects i don't care but in the first few weeks i do.
I didn't realize sprint didn't care about unlocking though. I am surprised people are always so concerned with unrooting when bringing their phones in for issues in that case.

I'm not talking about insurance, Sprint can't (shouldn't) turn you away for warranty issues of any kind (*within the warranty period). If you remove TEP, $8 and soon to be $11, which includes the ERP (Equipment Replacement Program) and the ESRP (Equipment Service & Replacement Program) you can still pay in store for a repair and avoid having to go through, what I'm sure would be, a painful warranty claim with HTC. I actually don't even think HTC would not honor their warranty if you use the Unlock and need a "hardware" warranty claim having absolutely nothing to do with rooting the device. Who knows though.... I do know, if you have no insurance or the ESRP at minimum, you'll be looking at a charge or the HTC direct route. I would recommend at least the $4 a month ESRP as we know how speakers and screens can be (at least in the past) the weakest links and need replacement.
As for the rooted devices being ok (this is very new and the worry before was pretty real), you can read an article and see the internal memo here http://www.androrev.com/2012/04/17/...-provide-customer-support-for-rooted-devices/. With that said, I'll never voluntarily take my rooted device in, they don't need know that info!
I never s on my device I just unroot lol o and take my sdcard out just in case but you have to be brave to not take your sd card out if you have personal things on there.

VM Evo 3D not even rebranded

I was at Target today and looked at the VM Evo V or whatever they're calling it... Opened the front flap, and it's still branded Sprint on the top right of the screen. I didn't think to take a picture, but thought it was interesting...
That's one way to get rid of a phone you thought would do better than it did.

Has anyone dealt with Asurion Insurance and talked them into a different phone?

I broke my phone today and was wondering if anyone has ever called them and was able to talk them into giving you a replacement phone, other than the one you have? Currently I have the Galaxy Nexus and I wanted to switch over to the 4G LTE, it's the same price and currently is the same exact deductible.
I was just wondering if anyone has been able to pursuade them into replacing your phone with a different phone?
Any advice or help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

As people send their phone in to get fixed or sell it back when they upgrade, stock gets replenished. Simple as that.

LTE connection trouble

Having issues connecting to LTE, have to toggle airplane mode on/off for it to switch back into 4g? anyone know any workarounds or anything
You may get more responses if you gave some back ground info. Sense or aosp rom. Was it working before? Does it work fine for a friend?
It may be your phone or maybe you are on a fringe area.

These are known issues. The current stock ROM has provided some help but really depends on your area. If you are in a new or spotty LTE area you are likely to face this for a while. I still have this issue in the Baltimore and D.C.markets.

I'm in the same boat as you brother. Since launch day I've had issues like this even before the LTE came to my area. I actually just had to toggle airplane mode a few minutes ago. The mobile data toggle would be grayed out and eventually say disconnected and the mobile data toggle would be stuck and you get no response when pressed. The only way to get it back on is to toggle airplane mode like you said. I am on 3.16 with everything on the latest firmware/etc and rocking Viper 3.1.0. Its not ROM related I've had this problem for a while and on multiple ROMs. Trust me if I could get an S3 I would in a heartbeat...

I'd suggest waiting a little while and see if the problem persists once the area is finished with its LTE build out. If the problem doesn't resolve itself, then you should take it to a Sprint store and show them how it's behaving. They should offer you a replacement if other phones aren't doing the same thing as yours in that area.
Many people say it's a Evo LTE issue, but that just is NOT the case with every Evo LTE. I for one never have to toggle airplane mode or do anything at all. I constantly have LTE at my house and in my surrounding city. When I go between LTE and 3G areas, my data has no problems whatsoever jumping between those connections instantly.

Couple problems with that... I have no Sprint rip off insurance and I'm full blown rooted and customized. The guy in the OP could probably because he just purchased his but I'm pretty sure I'm screwed. Also it only happens maybe every other day its not a constant problem and I'm 100% sure if I took it to my Sprint store they will blame it on being rooted or tell me to screw myself because I don't have TEP.
Sent from my Blazing fast LTEvo!
Haha it just happened again right after I said it rarely happens twice in 1 day. The first picture is the mobile data being stuck/grayed out and unresponsive if touched then the 2nd picture is after cycling airplane mode.
Sent from my Blazing fast LTEvo!
After 3 evo lte replacements with same lte connection problem you have op, I decided to get a note 2 out right. I still have the evo and swap activation between both every now and then. I can tell you that the evo drops lte connection while the note 2 lte connection is just solid in the exact same area.

Insurance doesn't matter. The phone has a 1 year manufacturer warranty, and hasn't been out for a year yet. Also, if you're in contact, they'll want you to stay so they'll want your phone to be working properly.

Unlocking only matters if you're shipping the phone to HTC. Sprint could care less if you're dev unlocked or s-off. They can't blame it in the towers if you're in store and a GS3 or Note 2 that's on display isn't having the same issue as yours is.

Now i am also having issues downloading from the market on LTE, whenever i go to start a Download it just sits at waiting for network.....

I really do love this phone also. The build quality is outstanding. I hope the S3 is as good of a phone as people say. Its amazing how much more $ you could get for an S3 right now vs. The EVO LTE. Doesn't really speak for quality as much as popularity/being well known. On ebay, an iphone 4 sells for as much, or more, compared to an Evo LTE. Kinda like a white Evo LTE sells for more than a black one. Same phone and quality, just that the white one is more popular.

insurance: evo 4g lte to one x?

I think I read here several months ago people were able via insurance (Asurion) to get a One X replacement for their dead/dying evo 4g lte, but my search hand had failed me.
is this(still) the case?
are former E4L users digging the one x?
any other thoughts?

Do you mean the HTC ONE or the One X? It can't be the latter as Sprint does not have the One X in their network of phones.

Assuming you mean HTC One, alas that "deal" is gone. I've gotten my EVO replaced 3 times in the last month because Sprint keeps on giving me bad EVOs. I tried to have them give me another refurb phone, but they won't do it. Now my current EVO does not have working bluetooth and apparently I've reached the maximum number of times you can get a replacement with TEP so I'm stuck with this even though it's completely their fault.
Sorry about that rant, but I've looked at the phones they will replace the EVO with and they are: LG Viper, Motorola Photon, and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The only decent phone is the Galaxy Nexus, but that too is aging.
