Home Screen Shortcuts For New Apps Are Not Automatically Created - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I've recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) from CyanogenMod 10.2 to 11.0. Everything works perfectly fine, except for one thing: when I download new apps from the Play Store, Launcher doesn't create home screen shortcuts to them, although the "Auto-add widgets" box in the Play Store settings is checked. I tried installing a few other launchers, in which shortcuts were created.
Thanks in advance!

That's auto add widget, not auto add apps.
Smack that Thanks button if I helped!

There is no "Auto-add apps" option. I Googled it and this check-box does seem to be the one. Any idea why it's still not working?

I use "Nova" launcher, and "auto-create widget" from play store couldn't create new shortcuts.
In nova settings I had to use "Auto-add shortcuts" under "settings->" "New apps".
Don't know how it work with other launchers

I can't find that option in the built-in launcher.

Then try to look under "settings -> launcher -> drawer", see if u can find any usable options there.
(At least that is how it is on my other device, cm based)

I use bettercut, works just fine for me. I add through the "add" menu though, as if I was adding a widget. If i open the app and hit new shortcut it doesn't recognize my launcher (adw).
if you use touchwiz, place the stock maps shortcut on your phone, open bettercut, and choose edit shortcut, see if that works.
every other icon is working fine other than the map one i tired on adw lp and touchwiz and it doesn't work on any of them

Didn't have a maps shortcut but I literally just did menu > add > shortcuts > bettercut > activity > google maps. Changed the icon and saved it, worked just fine. Maybe the icon back? Uninstall and reinstall bettercut?
Did you make the icon before updating google maps. I have to re-add my google voice icon to launcher pro's dock every time I update it.
Im having the same issue with the map shortcut, but only in launcher pro, not touchwiz. It works in the dock but not the home screen. Tried joe's method to add but still no luck.

[Q] Lockscreen wallpaper removal?

Hello, I could swear I saw a thread about this a couple weeks ago, but after over an hour of Googling, here I am! The problem is, I set a custom wallpaper for the lockscreen, but when I wanted to remove it so I could see the homescreen wallpaper, I couldn't figure out how! I found via google that there should be an option in the "display" menu under settings, but there isn't!? I have been browsing around with root explorer trying to find where the system stores the wallpaper, but haven't found anything, other than the homescreen wallpaper under /data/data/com.android.settings/files/ or something like that. Any suggestions?
Was this the thread you were looking for?

Well, just tried clearing data, all it did was set the lockscreen wallpaper to the default samsung one (yellow with blue top). I even uninstalled it, still no luck. And by lockscreen I mean the one that shows up when you have no password. If you have a password the homescreen one shows up like I want, but I don't want a password!
Yeah, I'm in the same boat on this one. That other thread was mine. I never noticed that if you set it to a lock it shows the home wallpaper until you mentioned it.
Maybe you could try clearing the cache and data of twlauncher and see if that helps?

Already did, no luck.
How does one turn it back on the Galaxy S?
From what I have heard is that on most android devices there is an option in the display menu of settings, but there is no such option on the galaxy player! I have asked for a settings.apk on the gt-i9000 forum, but have yet to get a reply. I guess if we really want it off we may need to do a factory reset!

Oh, thank you! Unfortunately I have a 4.0, but perhaps the settings.apk for the 5.0 will work for the 4.0. Let us know how it turns out!
Solved!
Download widgetsoid (a great app, btw), make a new switcher in the new widget menu, go to "shortcut", click "application", check "all activities" and go down to and add "wallpapers". Save the widget, you now have a shortcut to access wallpaper (including lockscreen) settings!
Don't forget the thanks button!
Hi.can you explain how you did it?it is a little unclear.Thank you very much
First, do you have the widgetsoid application? If so, long press on your homescreen and press "add widget". Scroll down to widgetsoid switcher (any size will work). Now in the configuration menu, go to the "shortcut" menu, at the top there is an "applications" option, select it. A list of your applications should appear; press the menu button, there will be an option to "show more actions", select it. Now scroll down to the "Wallpapers" and select it. Apply your settings, then you should have a widget on your homescreen that is a shortcut to your wallpaper settings that were previously hidden.
They updated widgetsoid, so my previous post is outdated, btw.
I got it!Thank you very much.i hit the Thanks button
Confirmed working on the US 5.0. That app is very tasty indeed. Thank you very much.

Found Running Services Shortcut on ICS!

In GB, you could add a shortcut for Running Services by going to Shortcuts and then Settings>Running Services. Ever since I upgraded to ICS (AOKP by TasK; I can't remember if the samsung roms that I tried had it), I didn't see that option. There was only Settings>Apps, and then you'd have to switch to the Running Services tab. But there's also a one-click/press method I found.
I don't know if anyone else is interested; google search wasn't helpful, and I found the solution so I thought I'd share.
So this will probably be slightly different depending on the launcher you use, but with Nova and Apex it's basically this:
long press>shorcuts>Activities>Settings>Running services.
There's two entries for running services. They both do the same thing so I don't know why that is. If someone could shed light on that I'd be interested to know.
Hit the thanks button if this was useful to you!

If I have my facts straight, this only works if you have a launcher installed that supports the "Activities" shortcut menu. I know Nova supports it...
I think that's right. Like I said it's launcher specific. Trebuchet doesn't seem to even have an option to add shortcuts other than the standard app-launch shortcut.

Oh...I missed that in your post...sorry.
all good
Also, I think even if a launcher doesn't have an "activities" option, as long as you install nova or apex (whether u use it or not) there should be a way to get this shortcut. The LG launcher on the root-box rom is a case in point. (Trebuchet is a counter-example). I forgot how I did it tho...

what would this be good for? i set it up. but there is no kill all option, so its kinda useless.
for nova users:
nova settings>long press menu>then do what he says in op.

I've always had a shortcut to Running Services on one of my homescreens. It's useful to know what's running in the background when it shouldn't...so I can track down the sources of battery drain. Then I use Autostarts to try to control those services.
What's really useless is a task manager with a kill all option. All it does is cause Android to reopen those services, wasting more battery than it's saving.

i agree. i use android assistant. great widget. can immediately see what my running processes are and i can kill if i tap the other side. along with look to see how much memory i will be freeing up. there is also an ignore list to throw those ones that reboot in.
different strokes for different folks i guess.

[Q] Apps from outside Amazon’s Appstore doesn't show up on the app drawer.

Hi guys. My first thread here and it's a problem.
I just bought my HDX 8.9, and installed apps from outside the amazon appstore. I did it through a alternative market, transfered form my PC or by bluetooth with my phone.
The problem is that after i installed any of them, they doesn't appear on the APP drawer, the only apps that still there are the amazon appstore ones. And i checked Cloud and Device tab and nothing.
I can only access to them by EFS Explorer, and that's annoying.
Its still happens before and after rooting the HDX, so i think rooting is not the problem.
I don't know what to do, i googled the issue and there's not info about it
Cheers and thanks!
Forgive me if I misunderstand, but are you talking about the home screen or after pressing Apps from the Home screen? The apps screen should show everything you have installed. The pull out drawer shows only the last apps you opened similar to the carousel at the top if the Home Screen.
To add apps to the Home Screen, open the Apps screen and long press on the app you want and select Add to Home.
edit: after reading your question again, I see that it is the app screen you're having problems with. I have not seen that problem. You might try reinstalling the downloaded app.

Exactly the app doesn't show up on the home screen and neither on the app menu.
I only can acces to them when i open ES Explorer > App Managament. There i can open them.
And yes i installed and reinstalled them, and the problem still.
It's sooo weird.
Maybe is the Mojito OS
When I install a sideloaded APK or install using 1Mobile, the app icon does not automatically appear on my home screen carousel. I have to go to the apps tab, then select "on device", then launch the app from there the first time. After that the icon appears on the carousel. Hope that helps.

I think it's "add to home" but yeah, that's what I do.
Icons like a bit crappy a they're massively scaled, but they do show.

It only show me the amazon apps only, and the suggested one from the market.
Like i said, i don't have any clue why this is happening to me. It's super weird.
Man, this is really weird... What if you get to the app manager where all the apps are listed (including the system apps). Don't remember how I got there but you could try to install let's say Nova launcher and access the apps from there..
You did set the trusted sources or what's it called to no didn't you? (I think there are like 2 switches for that in preferences. Don't have the device here right now in order to check)

It worked by using Nova Launcher!!! Now i can acces to all my apps and put them on the home screen!
Sadly that all look so small. It's like a phone setting.
¿There's any tablet version of Nova Launcher?
It so weird, it's like my Kindle default launcher it's bugged for not let me see my external apps.

Yes, that's the problem with other launchers and the kindle. Unfortunately they don't work as they should. No widgets, no background etc. Buzz launcher has also worked for me but don't expect much either... Your problem is really odd though and we should try find an other solution

Yeah it is.
But atm i can live by replacing the launcher. It patch the my main issue.
I will keep it like this until a custom rom appears.
Btw. Any good alternative market with a good update pace? Now I'm using 1mobilmarket.

1 mobile is good I use it too. You can use the 'forbidden' markets as well, since they offer also some free versions of the apps. You can Google the apps you want too. Many of them (if not all) can be found on the web or the developers homepage for direct download. Otherwise you could try to use apk extractor from play store. Put it on your phone, extract the app Sent it to your mail and install it to your Kindle. (not tested myself but it should work flawlessly)

Shortcuts doesn't appear on Home screen after apps are installed

Hi,
I use latest Nova launcher (Premium) and CM11 (nightly). But the same happened with CM10 stable and nightlies.
When I install new app - shortcut doesn't appear on my homescreen. I remember long time ago (I think that was in ICS stock launcher) - shortcuts would appear. But not anymore.
Automatically add widgets checkbox is checked in the Play Store Settings.
I even reinstalled fully Nova. No success.
Any ideas how to fix that?
Anyone?
Nova settings
New apps
Check the box
I believe its off by default now as many may not like apps just showing up
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks. Didnt know nova has that setting. Everything works. Thanks!!!
