Unlock U.S. Cellular model - Samsung Galaxy Mega

So I have ample experience here on XDA however, never had the need to unlock a phone.
A friend who has a U.S. Cellular model sch-r960 loves her Mega, but she just moved and now has no service. She has an ATT tower real close and I wondered if there is a way to unlock it. A valid proven way.
I have searched other threads which state they can unlock, but nobody claims actual valid success. One response is "inbox me"??? I am sure its just bad english, but if the terminology is that far off, what else is that far off?
Also saw a website for cell unlocker, guaranteeing success??
Skeptical.......can anyone validate?

I saw that site. Hard to trust sites like that, unless you get some kind of success recommendation. Trying to look up her imei, but says invalid. Ours are 15 digits, she only gives me 14.

AT&T is gsm
US Cellular is CDMA
I don't think it will work.
US Cellular does have a simcard for their 4G but not sure if it can be hacked to work on AT&T's gsm network.

Did anyone discover if you can add an APN from at&t or T-Mobile to the us cellular version and get it working?

vibrant to verizon

I'm looking around and I'm curious if I can get a vibrant from tmobile to work on my verizon account somehow. Sorry for the lack of searching but I'm out and about at the moment.
No. Not ever. Sorry. Also post questions in Q&A.
I'm petty sure its impossible. The vibrant is a GSM phone and verizon runs on CDMA.

no. Verizon uses CDMA technology and Vibrant runs on GSM, also ur gonna get flamed cuz its in the wrong section.
No.. that's like trying to say can i install a intel processor on AM3 (AMD) socket. It's two different things and would never ever work.

The actual answer is yes, but not in the US of A - in Europe Vodafone is Verizon partner and it offers GSM service.

And have the widget redirected to Bing. I know you can root it and change it and all that but I still think its unfair to the users who aren't rooting. It's just absurd that they restrict things like this.
Also not a huge fan of Verizon's exclusive apps like Skype, NFL, etc. I know you could extract it in APK format and do it like that but it's not healthy to make exclusive apps.

Iam thinking that you can do it, but first you need to unlock your phone.. First you need an activated Tmobile sim card placed into vibrant to go to next steps... Second look into market searching for "samsung unlock" and install and run it..it will give you the unlock code that the phone will ask you when you replace your verizon sim card, so write down all the info... third turn off vibrand and replace tmobile sim with verizon one and boot the phone... Enter the unlock code that you get from step 2 and enjoy your new unlocked phone!!..
I dont try it yet because I dont have the need, but I think that it will help you ...

This post is incorrect. Verizon does not use sim cards. The method posted here will unlock your phone for other GSM service, but since Verizon is not GSM this will not work.
Also, I really am curious since it happens so often, how do people keep posting in development and claiming they are confused about where to post?
I'm not making fun of anyone, this is a serious question. There are two forums: one is labeled Q&A and one is labeled development. How is it possible so many people make this mistake?

Wow. Some of you people clearly should not be flashing anything to your phones.
I have seen some of the worlds stupidest people on a forum with some of the worlds smartest. If you don't know what qna means then put you fing diaper back and go back to first grade. I'm sick of all this non dev chat in the dev section. If you don't know what cdma and what GSM is then Google it. Don't give the I'm to lazy to search excuse cause that's a bunch of bull.
GSM: most of the world, att T-Mobile.
Cdma: Verizon and sprint.
If a phone is cdma it will not work on GSM. And vise versa.
Now stfu noobs and gtfo.

It's so simple. There are two completely different technologies in question here. Cdma which Verizon uses and gsm which t-mobile and at&t use(which is why I-phone works on t-mobile). And to set the record straight about sim cards,I have seen several black berrys with sim cards on Verizon.

Those ones for Verizon that have SIM cards are the world editions of the phones and can go outside of the USA and use a local carrier that uses SIM cards (e.g. Vodaphone). CDMA and GSM are not compatible technologies. You cannot use one type of phone on the other network.
Lol, let the flaming and ranting begin!!!!!

Try doing a search...I'm pretty sure you can find quite alot of threads relating to this topic.
My brother's friend that works at AT&T said the same thing. "too new". He even said it about the skyrocket.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
might be too new regardless
Usually the carriers are happy to unlock the phone because they charge you a boat load to do it. If they are denying your money I'm not sure if any third party sites could get one from your IMEI or not either. Let us know if you find anything though. Here's hoping!

Just came across another thread stating codes were purchased off cellunlocker.net for around 8 bucks, it's not free, but not much at all and worth it if it works.

I called at&t tech support 2 weeks ago, and tried again yesterday. Both times they said no unlock codes for Note due to it being "too new."
I'm really in no rush to unlock it, although I wish it was unlocked just for bragging rights.
I'll be more concerned about unlocking it within the next 3-6 months...either to sell it or for when I'm traveling abroad.

Carriers don't charge for unlock codes. They either refuse to give it or they give it freely.
There are other companies that do charge. They are not the carriers.

Again, how are they going to use a GSM device on Verizon? Verizon is a CDMA network primarily, with LTE being the only type of GSM service they have. Unless you have some magic radio dust, you need to a VZW device to use VZW's network.

So, you want to know who has tried the Note II on Verizon? Unless you are a device tester, no one has used the Note II on Verizon's network. Yes, we could go out and try a T-Mobile Note II, but I can't see anyone on VZW spending $650 for an unlocked international version when it won't work on VZW's network.
Maybe you should realize that you're posting in a VERIZON ONLY forum and asking people their opinion's on GSM devices that have a snowball's chance in hell of working on Verizon's network before you start complaining about responses you're getting.
I posted it in the note 2 general q&a before it was separated into different flavors by the mods into individual carrier models, and btw people unlock phones and try different networks all the time, and there are at least 3 models from south korea that could play nicely with Verizon with a little effort and was hoping someone had found a useful bit of info. You really have no idea how VZW's network works do you? If you can't get a Sprint LTE device to work on VZW, how do you think you're going to get an international version working? Just because it supports LTE doesn't mean it will work. If that was the case, why aren't people using AT&T or Sprint Note II's on VZW? Or one of the many other LTE capable phones out there that are available? The reason is because you can't. It won't work, and even if they did support the same protocols and frequencies, you would need to know someone that has access to backend VZW systems that would be willing to risk their job for you to even hope at getting it to work.

lol some people are just fools who will never understand the concept of how the networks really work out there. If it really worked, hell people would be going to one dealer to get it $50 cheaper like AT&T has, and then just using it with their unlimited data on Verizon.
You guys are morons, i am NOT TALKING ABOUT ONLY GSM i am also talking about the cdma korean versions, ever heard of cdma workshop? How bout unlocking? For being on xda you are kinda out of it. Ive gotten my answer thank you, two of these versions DO work according to pms iv gotten from people that live or travel to/from south korea where guess what they use CDMA. Only in the us do carriers stop you from using a boughten phone on another network.

Yeah, we're all idiots and have no idea what we're talking about. Care to tell me how they got the ESN into VZW's database? How are they authenticating and using the LTE network, or even using the CDMA network properly? Probably by doing stuff that is less than legal, or they know people that not many others do. And if it's so easy to do, don't you think that people would be importing the international versions frequently rather than getting bloated Verizon versions? Then again, we're all just idiots, so wtf would we know.
sprints version should be able to work on Verizon, they are both cdma+lte with global capabilities... I know they could since sprint and Verizon roam of each other just like AT&T and T-Mobile do and unlocked gsm phones work on AT&T and T-Mobile all you should have to do is unlock a sprint version

Sprint doesn't use the same LTE frequency, and you wouldn't be able to get the phone's ESN info in VZW's database. This is why I've been saying you have to get a VZW version to use on VZW.

To be a recognized dev you really are trolling pretty badly. The dude asked if anyone had gotten another Note2 to work on verizon. We are all very happy you understand the policy behind the scenes of getting the device onto the network. There are plenty of people who do have connections within Verizon that could possibly have set it up to make it happen. I'm sure you know all about chipsets and network bands so I'm sure you understand it is completely within the realm of the possible that it happened. Don't bust on the guy for asking a question.

Would you risk your job to put a friend's Note 2 from another carrier in the system just so they could use the network? I imagine there are some very heavy restrictions on adding new devices to the database, with pretty heavy consequences if you're just adding stuff for fun. Is it possible to make it happen? Yes, it is. Is it likely to happen? No, and I doubt if you did get someone to add the phone info, they wouldn't want you to go around posting about it everywhere.
Given the likelihood is next to zero for knowing someone with the access to do this, being able to buy a non-VZW phone with the proper radio frequencies that isn't a VZW specific device, and then getting said person to add said device to the network, I don't get why the thread was started to begin with. I know of people that have tried to get Sprint CDMA only devices on VZW's network, and even that is a venture in futility, so I can't imagine how you expect to get an LTE Note II from a non-US carrier to work.
Also, you people need to learn what trolling is, as I wouldn't consider any of my posts in this thread to be trolling. I'm stating facts as to why what the OP is asking is extremely unlikely and near impossible. Trolling rarely is factual. Maybe you could say I'm a troll if I came here posting "OMG, I'm using it on VZW's network right now and it's the best thing since sliced French Bread", but I'm not.
So it is possible
It was just a question (in the Q&A section no less) looking for like minded people to respond
Trolling is responding without addressing the topic or in this case answering the question, which was what you did.... repeatedly.
I'm only responding because I would expect much more in a response from a developer. Leave the negativity and the can't do attitude to someone else.

This is a GSM phone, not CDMA. They do not have to activate the phone.

Not really. I just feel that at least one person has to keep it real even if its unpopular.
Let's put it this way. If I say it then everyone else who's thinking the same thing doesn't have to open their mouth and get in trouble.

You may not be subtle but you are correct. OP should have searched first. Most phones have to be unlocked this way. Thread should be locked before a spammer tries to leave his spamunlocker.com link here.
Ok. I seem to have enraged a few people.
Before I posted this question I searched for a similar question in the forum. The best result was how to unlock using the ATT code. I have already called AT&T and they're not willing to give me the unlock code. I've tried to get codes online. I've tried one and it didn't work. Now I am stuck with a phone that's just a PDA and not worth the money I put into it.
I was actually looking for answers from people who have gone through a similar experience. I thought this would be a commonly occurring issue. But I've tried what everyone of you have written here and it hasn't worked yet. So what should I do?

I bought the unlocked code from ebay around $4 and worked like charm and use the phone now on T-mobile network
If ATT won't give you the code, and they sometimes do even if you are not on ATT, then you have to buy your unlock code. Best bet is to purchase 1 from a vendor on ebay. You also need to be on the stock ATT ROM to do the unlocking. You cannot unlock the phone with a custom ROM on it.
I don't like giving reference to these 3rd party vendors but here is an informative video. If you go to youtube and read the directions with the video you should be fine.

I just called att to "unlock" my phone I preordered my note 2 so I'm waiting for the launch,But called att and asked if they would unlock this note 1..They unlocked it and gave me a code..So its officially unlocked now..
Thanks everyone for your helpful comments. I was able to get the phone unlocked through a friend's friend who works for AT&T. He just called customer service and got the unlock code. I think I just spoke to the wrong guy when I called. Anyway, the phone's unlocked and I'm very thankful to all you guys.

[Q] I need help with flashing a sprint LG G3

I'm that guy that ignored every warning sign of a straight up scam. I bought a sprint LG G3 on the premis that cdmaflashsoftware.com could flash it to work on Bluegrass cellular. His only payment option was moneygram (I am aware that I'm a dumbass so spare me the insults). Well now I'm $350 dollars into this phone and still am not sure if it can even be done. Can someone shed some light on this subject.

Have you tried Lg flash tool to get back to Sprint? I would think if your efs is still good you should be able to flash sprint tot.
Don't know anything about your personal situation but if you can't tot back I'm afraid you're screwed.
Have you tried this?..http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...tore-sprint-lg-g3-ls990-t2852042/post54912191
First of all thank you for your help. It is completely stock and is still under sprint. The only reason I'm pissed at this guy is because I bought the phone only because he said he could flash it. Nothing has been done to the phone at this point. He just took my payment and now ignores me. Again, don't know what I'm doing but can follow instructions well. Lol

Gotcha. I have no idea how you can flash to bluegrass. Hopefully someone can help
Look on Craig's list for someone that flashed phones to other carriers with a bad esn. Thats what I would do.

Ok, I got the msl code from sprint, took it to Bluegrass cellular and they told me sprint phones can't work on their towers. Does anybody know if this is true or can flashing make it work?

Just took a quick look at their web site. It looks like Bluegrass runs on a GSM network, unlike Sprint's CDMA. BUT, the Sprint G3 is a world phone, and has a GSM radio and SIM slot. If you can get Sprint to unlock it for you (and since you're not under contract they probably will), you could then insert a Bluegrass SIM card and see if it works. If not, it will still work on Sprint, and you can resell it.
Actually Bluegrass is cdma also. I did try putting some card in though, no service.

It will not worked because the sim slot is locked for Sprint only. The only way to get a Sprint phone sim unlocked is to call Sprint and ask them very nicely. They may or may not do it for you, I have heard the phone has to be activated on a Sprint account for 90 days first. The only thing you can do is call Sprint customer service and try to ask them nicely. Good luck.
Yes I've done that I think. They gave me the unlock code or msl code. When I go to change settings by dialing ##data#, it asks for a 6 digit code to edit. and when I put in the msl code, it allows me to make the changes.

The model # for Bluegrass is LG AS985. The open source is on lg's website. But again I know nothing. I'd donate to any cause if this is possible.
