I just picked up a 'mint' atrix 4g today, thing looks like it is brand new!
Anyways, it came with a unlocked sim. Just curious if I can use the same process for unlocking the BL, flashing recovery, and flashing roms as a normal "locked" atrix?
I had a atrix 4g before (it was beat up lol, it got stolen..) And I had unlocked hte BL and flashed recovery and a rom..
I just don't want to risk bricking this thing if a unlocked sim makes it different, and I also don't want to have service issues, I'm using straight talk in Kansas city, it says "AT&T" in my status>Network, so I think its on AT&T towers
SIM unlock makes no difference at all.
Also, questions always go to Q&A, never to General.

Hi guys, I am about to receive a "new" refurb AT&T GSII to use on my T-mobile account. I have not yet received it, so forgive me if this is a stupid question, I just want to be ready for when I get it.
Will I be able to root the phone straight out of the box? I know I need to run the unlocker from the market, but need to root first. Is the phone "locked" like iPhones are out of the box? Thanks!
And also, can I ask what the number 1 recommended ROM is for this phone? I read CM7 has some issues, but are there any CM7 based ROMs that everyone loves?
No, I believe the phone works just fine without a simcard. You should be able to start up odin, flash CWM, and flash a rooted rom all without an active sim card. You can also setup the phone by connecting it to a WiFi network. Once unlocked it will work with your T-Mobile sim.
I don't think the att sgs2 has the radio to work on t-mobile's 3g bands. You'll be limited to edge speeds. If you are ok with that, you should be all set.

Yea, I have no data plan so I'm all good with the incompatible radio. Plus the screen/phone size on the I777 is perfect for me, while the Tmobile one is slightly too big.
I guess I will just follow the guides to root it. Now to pick the best kernel and ROM...
I've had my Atrix for a year, now someone wants to buy it from me. Considering Motorola has given us the middle finger more than once, this will be my last Moto phone, and I'll sell my phone.
The thing is, I'm on a certain network (TELCEL) and my friend wants to use it with MoviStar.
I bought this phone brand new from my boss. I believe he got it as a gift from a Motorola rep (he got the entire deal - both docks and the phone). I do not know whether the phone is locked or not. I don't know how to find if it is or not.
I've unlocked the bootloader and am currently running CM10. I'll downgrade to stock 2.3 before I give the phone to my friend.
How can I check if the phone is unlocked and whether he can use it on another network? I have no clue and don't know anyone who has a MoviStar SIM. I would like to give him the phone knowing that it'll work..
Thanks!
Don't know if this helps, but-
If I search for other networks, I can see MoviStart without an issue.
I tried typing #073887* on the dial screen and nothing happens.
Perhaps it's already unlocked?
Put any other sim in it and see if it works. If its unlocked it will.
Unlocking bootloader etc doesn't remove network lock btw.

Thanks... I can't easily find anyone with a MoviStar chip. As a matter of fact, my friend is the only one I know that uses that network! I'll have to go to MoviStar and ask for a SIM to try, I guess.
It doesn't need to be that specific one, just any other SIM card will do.
Not sure if this is the right thread to put this, but I just wanna report that my N900V is now rooted and unlocked, following root-de-la-vega - reboot a 2-3 times - install regionlockaway.apk - reboot 2-3 times again
I'm now using it with my straight talk at&t 4g lte sim card.
I agree with the comments above the title is misleading and should be moved to "General" as this form of Root has already been released and discussed by the Developer that discovered it> credit should go to designgears. As for Unlocked this is confusing and misleading as how it is stated in title of thread, as there is a difference between a Modem or SIM unlock vs a Bootloader Unlock. I think while it is safe to say, considering we have a Bounty running in the General section that has been there for quite some time, the method of Unlock we are mainly most interested in is a Bootloader Unlock, therefore using the words Unlock in the Title should have been done more tastefully> OP welcome to XDA!
Interesting

The Verizon note 3 is factory unlocked already. There's really no need to pay for it to be unlocked. I inserted my wife's T-Mobile prepaid Sim card in and got signal. Of course I was only able to get G instead of their 3G/4G. Works for AT&T as well.

that's true if you got it activated first with Verizon, from my reading the net, it'd be locked unless it's first activated with the intended provider (Verizon), my problem was I could not get it activated with Verizon so I had to those things and seems to work now.

the phone is unlocked but no the bootloader, you need to clearly state region free instead of unlocked.
When you switch sim does your phone number change as well or just data?

First off I am on my dads cell phone plan and am not paying anything a month for it so I dont want to switch to t mobile but the att version has a locked bootloader so here I am. So for my first question, how hard is it to unlock one of these phones? Then once its unlocked, will it get worse service then the att version? Can this unlocked phone tether like the way a stock t mobile one can? Is there any other down side to getting an unlocked phone vs stock att other then the unlocked would have tmobile on it instead of att and root access right way. thanks for any help and if I posted this in the wrong thread, im sorry.
Hey guys. I got this phone on Swappa advertised as a unlocked Z3v. I get the phone, throw my MetroPCS sim card in there and call MetroPCS to link the IMEI with my account.
Despite saying showing a 4G Signal I'm not getting any connection to the Internet and am unable to make a phone call. Is this phone really unlockable? Is there a setting I'm missing? I'm new to this unlocked phone stuff
Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

I have been using the Z3v for the past 2 years and can confirm the BL is NOT unlockable. The great dev's we have for the Z3v have tried, but to no avail. I did not see the swappa post but the phone is rootable but not BL unlockable. Check out GigaSPX's and others threads in the Z3v development section for guidance on upgrading your rom to 5.1 if you need to, installing custom recovery, rooting, etc...
It's carrier unlocked for sure. I'm using mine on cricket at this very moment. You probably have to manually input the APN, and then reboot. I
^This is what you'll have to follow when using on a different carrier.
