Android Wi-Fi system - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I am playing with Wi-Fi on CyanogenMod 11. In detail I try to enable Wi-Fi direct. But from jellybean to cm-1X.X are changed many stuffs. Can someone explain me why are used -O/data/misc/wifi/sockets and [email protected]:wpa_wlan0? In many devices githubs I can not find wpa_supplicant.conf and p2p_supplicant.conf, where they are? Why in jellybean was enough wlan0 and now wi-fi direct require p2p0? Are them used contemporaneity?

Wifi tether on Sony based custom rom for Xperia 2011

Hello
I'm trying to use wifi tether on my SE Xperia Neo V with Suave kernel and Ultimate HD 3.0.2.
Once setup is done and hotspot activated, I can connect my laptop and tablet to the wifi but there's no internet connection.
I've tried various combination of kernel and custom ROM (all based on sony's ROM) but ended up with the same result.
However, it did work with Cyanogenmod back when I was using it.
So, I'm guessing it might be because of sony's ROM, could anyone confirm that ?
Is there a fix ?
Does anyone managed to make it work ? with what kernel and what ROM ?
Any help would be appreciated.
thx
Also, it works on Cyanogenmod Nightly 10...

Yes, as far as I remember. But I then changed for cyanogenmod, then to another provider that didn't support tethering.
I just noticed that now that I changed for another provider...
anyone ?!

Yes, you'll get your 10 posts...
OK, I've tested many ROMs and none of the Sony .587 based ROM worked (the roms are working but not the tethering). Not with wifi nor bluetooth.
I've tried many things and only cyanogenmod works on that departement.
It has to be system related because all the apps I've tried (barnacle and such) didn't work either and some even caused the phone to reboot.
Also barnacle says WIFI: could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: Device ore resource busy
anyone ?
OK, I've found a solution.
After many tests and research, it seems to be specific to SFR french carrier and android 4.X (no wonder it was working for nearly everybody but me...).
The thread with the answer is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544063
Now, it needs to be done once the hotspot is activated and it will keep working as long as you don't reboot your device.
Would there be a way to "integrate" that in the ROM to make it automatique somehow ?
Anyone ?
Ok, anyone knows how to make the iptables parameters permanent in android ?

[Q] Jelly Bean (4.1.2) Support for Proxy Auto-Configuration PAC Files

Hi All,
Managing Galaxy Note I & IIs running Android 4.1.2 and would like to direct network/browser traffic to a URL filtering service through a proxy server. Can someone confirm (with supporting reference material please) or deny (with supporting reference material please) that Jelly Bean (specifically Android v4.1.2) has support for PAC files to configure proxy settings? The browsers I want to redirect to the proxy are Internet V4.1.2 (default with version 4.1.2 Android OS) and Chrome V 25.0.1364.169. Pointers to how to set proxies for those specific browser releases is also welcome.
If PAC file support does exist where does the PAC file need to be installed? How is it typically installed? Can someone point me to documentation that reviews the PAC file support.
Thanks for the time and consideration.

There is no PAC/WPAD support in android 4.1.2.
You can use Drony.

thanks for ur reply. currently using stock gb .58. to know WLAN chip model, I wrote command "dmesg | grep -i lan" on terminal emulator and found this two line <6>[106632.763153] TIWLAN: 3048.442141: CHIP VERSION... set 1273 chip top registers
<6>[106632.764068] TIWLAN: 3048.443057: Working on a 1273 PG 2.0 board. here is showing chip wl1273. is it kernel issue? sorry for my en
Thats weird. I'm not sure its really wl1271 tho, but on ics kernel all code in compat wireless suggest that its wl1271, even using wl1271 firmware. Compat wireless in gb kernel and ics kernel is different, that I'm sure of. The one from ics kernel is newer, sony backported it from 2.6.38 kernel
I ask u this kind of question because of my weird WiFi problem. our college have 9 WiFi router I tried to connect my sk17i stock gb all of them, connected successfully but on internet access. some of my friend still there & browsing net without any WiFi issue. they also used stock gb (different android version) & phone band Samsung ,HTC, some China. it is very shame for me. where's the problem of Sony. worse WiFi ever. can u tell me how can I fix it. r u faced this kind of problem?
Usually I'm connected to only two wifi network, so cant say that I'm definitely not getting problem based on experience with only that two router, but so far its working just fine. Moreover I'm using miuiv4 and my own custom kernel, not stock anymore like what u use.
Sent from your phone
Can upload ur own custom kernel for & miui v4 link for me? I want to test it.
I have some question for u.
1. R u notice When u download over WiFi, maximum speed rate MB/s?
2. Ur WiFi tethering maximum speed?
3. We can't use WiFi direct because our hardware or android version capability. But we can use fast file transfer.apk or other WiFi sharing apps for sharing file quickly for that reason I connect my phone with laptop (802.11n 300Mb/s). Notice that my phone upload speed that means laptop download speed only 900KB/s. (know different between kb/s & KB/s). I found hotspot.conf file in system/etc/wifi. In this file mention the line # Operation mode (a = IEEE 802.11a, b = IEEE 802.11b, g = IEEE 802.11g,
# Default: IEEE 802.11b
hw_mode=g
Why? We have 802.11n (though it it single band). Can we enable 802.11n on hotspot mode?

That depends on the WiFi network you are connected to.

[Q] GT-P3113: Ad Hoc does not work on MOKEE OPENSOURCE Rom?!

I am trying to enable Ad-Hoc in my Galaxy Tab GT-P3113. So finally I decided to do that by installing a custom Rom: MOKEE OPENSOURCE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334633
In those page, they claimed that "Ad-Hoc peer-to-peer network connection - Use MoKee's built-in kernel, otherwise the function is not available."
I do not know what they mean by "Use MoKee's built-in kernel"? I flash this Rom in my Tablet and it can not detect Ad-hoc Networks yet.
What does they means by "Use MoKee's built-in kernel"?
do you know any other Rom which enable Ad-Hoc in GT-P3113?

[Q] Tethering Network Problem

Hello,
I have a problem where tethering will not work on my phone. Connected devices will not receive an IP address and will instead use a self-assign IP address (169.x.x.x). This was tested with WIFI and USB.
With WIFI tethering active, I confirmed the WIFI IP address on my phone is 192.168.43.1. On a connected device, manually setting the network settings with that as the gateway address works.
Other information:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500)
Android version: 5.0.1
Kernel: 3.4.5-3943544
ROM: Prism Barebone v14.6
Bootloader: I9500XXUHOA7
Baseband: I9500XXUHOA7
Notes:
- This is the first time I tried using tethering since flashing this ROM.
- I have not receive any response to the question on the ROM's thread.
- There is one other person on the thread with a tethering problem, but is seems to be unrelated.
I noticed v15 of the ROM was released, but I'm posting this for 3 reasons:
- Mobile data is expensive here, so I cannot download the new version now.
- I don't know whether the new version will actually fix this on my phone.
- I couldn't really find any valuable information about this, so it will save someone from having to ask this in the future (if they research first).
Thanks
Ok, so I assume this is really not a common problem?
I did a clean install of Prism Barebone v15 and updated the bootloader to XXUHOB8. It is still not working.
