I'm think of s-offing my phone, but would like to to know if rum runner factory resets it.

No but it's best to just factory reset before you do it to avoid any issues that may arise.

Unlocking the bootloader will fully wipe the device, I don't know how rumrunner works but I do know that if you unlock it will wipe everything

Rumrunner unlocks the bootloader via an exploit rather than the normal dev unlock (which is unavailable for the DNA), so it doesn't erase the device.
Agree with @detonation. It did not wipe my device when I used it on my warranty replacement.
Didn't wipe my device either!

I've heard about phones that can't relock the bootloader after unlock, or that keep track of the number of rom flashes, as ways to tell if you have rooted(and thus voided your warranty). Are there any checks on the S3?
Yes

Which phone do you have? I don't think is that easy on the S3.
Thanks for your help. Hopefully by the time I have the cash in august it'll be even easier to root without upping the count.
Are there any downsides to leaving the boot loader unlocked? It's not much of a hassle to lock it back, I just wasn't sure why it would matter if it was unlocked or locked.
Why would you want to lock it?

Just lock the bootloader only if you're sending the phone back to Verizon.

Thanks, I have been messing with Samsung phones and it's not something I've messed with before so I wasn't sure if there was an actual reason to do it.
You can lock it back easily through fastboot..

If you previously obtained the unlock code prior to the OTA, no. Otherwise, yes.
How about VZW warranty, or insurance.
I had same problem , rooted, exchanged under warranty.

So you can achieve S-OFF & root. (Essentially allowing you to use tether again, unless you PDANet or the built-in mobile hotspot.)

Check the number you are texting to. If its been prepending ( example = +1 201 123 1234), then it will not go through. Seen this commonly when contacts are being imported/shared from Facebook.

Update Ur phone then do the moonshine
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium HD app
Look for facepalm
You could use Facepalm S-off, but what I would do in that situation is accept the OTA to Build # 2.06 and use Moonshine S-off. I don't know about Facepalm, but with Moonshine, it S-offs, unlocks bootloader, and roots so that all you have to do is install a custom recovery.
In shorter words, Update your phone and use Moonshine.
And P.S. This belongs in Q&A, not Development. You will most likely get more help there.

I used face palm myself but from what it looks like moonshine is easier, so if your new then maybe think about it that way. But if you know your way around ADB, and whatnot then I recommend face palm like everyone above.

Apply appropriate RUU for your firmware version. If you are on kit-kat firmware no full RUU exists so you would more or less be SOL.

Try running the 3.06 ruu found here. If it works then your all set. If it doesn't that might mean your on kit Kat and since we do not have an ruu for that then you may be out of luck.
Go here and try it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612740
Make sure your booted to the boot loader and you have the drivers on the pc installed correctly so it can run and complete. If this doesn't work your only option is a jtag. In that case which is worst case scenario you would need to send the phone out to get fixed. Hopefully you are not on kit Kat and the ruu works. The new ota was released a couple weeks ago so chances are she didn't accept it yet if she was on her new phone.

Do you have the original unlock code? Mite have to try firewater to unlock and soff again. From the looks of the pic you are on the 3.06 os but the newest radio and hboot. the link below has all the radios, hboots and firmware links. I think you need to flash back to the 3.06 hboot and radio and then try the 3.06 ruu again. Hope this helps

Hopefully they don't charge you. The signature check is basically saying you don't have permission to do that because you have security flags on and your locked. Your probably on kitkat and that's why the ruu won't work. With out soff you can not downgrade the system so it's not allowing it. And since we do not have an ruu for kit Kat yet your out of luck. Like I said you can jtag but because of your time restrictions and having to send it back to Verizon that's not an option. Sorry I couldn't help you out and things didn't work out.
