Hello. I recently got an HTC Droid DNA to replace my S4 (don't ask me why I chose it over the S4; I just like it better). I got it on Swappa and it was already rooted with S-Off. So I promptly flashed an AOSP rom on it. I flashed the latest build of CM11, however I have also had this issue with SlimKat. Anyway, after I reboot my phone and try and open Messaging, it does not open. It sits there for about 5 seconds then goes straight to a black screen. This happens every time I try and open Messaging. Weird thing is I can still send and receive texts VIA Hangouts just fine. It is just Messaging that doesn't open. Looking at my logcat, I get the following error when it goes to a black screen:
Code:
Starting windows AppWindowToken{42db9888 token=Token{427e7cd8 ActivityRecord{41f90280 u0 com.android.mms/ .ui.ConversationList t12}}} timed out
I will give a full proper logcat when I get back to my computer. Later today.
The weird thing is that Hangouts works just fine. It's like something has happened to the Messaging app. I have tried reflashing both CM11 and SlimKat and after a reboot, they both do it. Any ideas?
EDIT: I am pretty sure I have figured out the problem. It appears that an app that I am restoring with Titanium Backup is causing this problem. Derp.
Do you have Google play movies installed? If so uninstall it because it has been causing these types of issues. Make sure you reboot afterwards.

hangouts seems to be the new messaging app anyways
Try Go SMS Pro
It a good app

Hello everyone. I recently ran into a problem, my text messages stopped sending. I am running the latest version of the community rom with the latest OTB kernel from nemesis2all. I have been running this setup since release and have had absolutely no problems. Until today.
Earlier this morning I was texting a couple people as usual. I use chompSMS as my messaging application. Sitting there writing a text when I get the "updates are available" notification from the market. I finish my text and start to update my apps. Everything seems to update just fine so then I reply to another text. It won't send. I try sending it again. No dice. Send like 5 other people a text. Nothing happens, besides "send failed" notifications. All of a sudden I get the crash vibrations and then my phone reboots, and I still can't send texts.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have had this phone since September and have been flashing roms since before that. I know a pretty good amount of information but have never ran into a problem quite like this.
Does the stock messaging give you the same errors? If so revert to the last known working version of chomp with titanium.
good day.

Yes, the stock app gives me the same errors. I have tried reverting back to an older chomp and that doesn't work either. Everything else works, like calls, 3g data, gps, and I can receive texts. I just cannot send anything. It will try to send for like 5 minutes or so before I get a "send failed".
EDIT:Got it working. Didn't realize TiBu had latest version of chomp. Found an earlier version and everything works as it should. Thanks chopper.
Just curious how many people are having issues with stock Google apps and the stock browser after the ota update. The Gmail and maps will get stuck on a white screen as does the stock browser and the play store will just lock up on whatever screen it was currently on. Google wallet will freeze during the unlocking your device notice. These are the only ones I have found so far but I had none of these issues before the ota update. A phone restart will fix it for a period of time but I'm currently having to restart my phone 2 times a day to get the apps to work properly again.

I also forgot to add that during the restart after the screen turns off you can will change the ring volume up and down and hear it change for 2-3 seconds before the phone actually does restart. I noticed this when I had my Bluetooth headset still connected and it was not telling me it was disconnected for at least 4-5 seconds after the screen turned off unlike before the update when it was no more than a second.

Mine does this as well, the only "fix" I have found for it is rebooting the phone. Then it works for a few days until it randomly decides to freeze again.
I was having the same problems where the browser will be a white screen and not work. I went twrp and wipe cache/dalvik cache and haven't had a problem since

Same problem here

I have been having the same problem also been having random reboots at times
I'm rooted and flashed the latest firmware, is there any way it can be undone

After the update! The stock browser doesn't highlight the the URL address when tapped like before...Instead we have to manually delete the URL to search something else or press the little X after tapping on the URL.
Wtf!? Yeah count me in too. I just did a restart and it didn't fix problem. Gwallet still in notification bar saying initializing.

Also been having the same problem since updating, most noticable with the browser just being a white screen. Tried wiping cache & dalvik cache again, doesn't seem to help. Stock ROM with S-OFF. Surprised I haven't seen more mentions of this problem, but perhaps it's not widespread?
Well as I've learned over my time at xda updates are always catch 22's. That's why I choose to wait and read users feedback on how the latest ota is functioning. However none if this is revelant to your issues just figured I'd post it for future reference. Also have you guys tried a full wipe of your current rom? After you make a backup of your data of course to see if that will help ??

Yeah...I was having the same problem after the ota, but after a couple of reboots things started to work right.
Im having this too, is getting very annoying. Sometimes i just want to use the phone quickly for something and have to re-start the phone... I feel like breaking it against the floor.

I too am having the same issue. Play and browser all fail to respond. Wiped cache etc. Still repeats each time.

I wound up here after searching for this error, which just started with me yesterday with the browser (stock). It just displays a white screen when I try to use it.
I've had the latest update (flashed with 1.22.651.3 odexed ROM from xHausx and firmware from Captain Throwback) about a week now and this just started happening yesterday.
Yesterday I somehow got it to work again by clearing the Internet cache and then I performed a search from the Google search bar and all was well. I was thinking at the time that it was stuck on a particular page and that this got around it. But that fix isn't working for me today, so I'm going to try to clear dalvik/cache from twrp as recommended here and see where that gets me.
It's good to know I'm not the only one though... I wonder if there's anything else more specific we all have in common since we seem to be a fairly small subset. Maybe we all flashed the Odexed update for example?
EDITED TO ADD: Appears to affect Gmail too. And possibly several other Google apps as mentioned here and in other threads. Since there was a Gmail update I did yesterday, I'm going to try to uninstall that as mentioned in this other thread I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810829

NOT helpful at all since it affects not only the stock browser but other Google apps as well.
Refer back to my original post which I updated with additional information.
I've found if I reboot and never use the stock browser I don't have the white screen problem. I set maxthon as the default and act like the stock browser doesn't exist.

I reverted back to the previous version of Gmail yesterday hoping that would fix the problem but it still happened. This morning when I clicked an email notification from my status bar, Gmail did the white screen thing and needed to be shut down manually. Just to verify that this and the browser incident were related, I tried to launch the stock browser and it too was white screen.
So those of you suggesting to install an alternate browser to get around this issue need to understand that this is a lot more widespread than the browser alone. For me, both my Gmail and Google Offers were white screens this morning upon trying to launch them so it definitely appears to affect all Google apps.
Yeah this happens to me as well. Its really bad now. Nothing fixes. It does it on all the roms with newer OTA for me. Only two roms will work for me without this problem. I have tried everything. Wiped everything, Reflashed, Checked my sd card, factory reset, you name it. It even does it on restored roms that didn't have the problem before. I don't know what to do....
A developer told me to try and manual flash boot.img through fastboot but I'm not even sure how to do that. Need to read up on it.
I have had the issue to wear when I am trying to open the browser app, it will actually freeze the entire phone until I hit the home button repeatedly in play store will not load anything until I fully restart the phone I've tried fixing for missions do a nandroid restore nothing seems to work

Google Now worked correctly on my phone, until 1st of August. Since then, it is having a strange problem. Not just voice, even if I try to search using text (typing it into the box), it briefly shows the results and crashes immediately. Its not a 'crash' as such, it just shows the home screen directly, and no force close or not responding message.
Anyone else experiencing this? What could be the problem?
ROM: CM10 latest build - tried reinstalling, tried installing older build but no luck
EDIT: Fixed it!! Under "Phone Search", you'd need to disable one (or more) options in order to make it work correctly. For me, it was Google Chrome. Its working fine now.
I had the same problem of it not showing up after my GApps flash. Caught unaware, I started installing/updating the Google Apps, then saw this thread and reflashed the proper GApps file. Unfortunately, that caused all sorts of weirdness. What I found to work after everything was to reflash JB, reboot back into recovery, and flash GApps IMMEDIATELY after the JB flash. Now I have Google Now with all my apps. No special settings changes or anything. It just works now.

I am having the exact same issue, with the exception that I tried disabling everything under phone search, and it still crashes immediately
I can open google now but as soon as I start to type it closes (similar to OP, no FC message or anything, just back to the homescreen). I can't even click settings within google search (same result, just closes). I think it was working after upgrading to JB. I think it started to act weird after integrating with my system rom using Titanium Backup. I don't think there's a way to de-integrate, is there?
Do you think installing the APK on top would help? Or do I need to start over?
Also, FWIW, I'm on the moto droid razr maxx HD, so this sounds like a software, not hardware, issue.

By the way this is a Galaxy S2 forum.... You should go to your specific device section to post.

Just hit the Damn thanks button instead of thanking me in your post
I upgraded my NT from CM7 to CM10 & overall, I'm very happy with it. My only problem at the moment is that my email app crashes when I open it. I can get yahoo & gmail, but when I open the stock app it crashes right away. I figure that if I uninstall/re-install it might fix it, but I have no idea of exactly to un-install & where to get it to re-install it.
Right after I installed CM10, Talk kept crashing but that has stopped. Not sure if that points to anything, but figured it should be mentioned.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Answering my own question in case it happens to someone else. It looks like I got it working. I deleted all the data, not just the cache. That meant I had to set the account up again, but it appears to have worked. Mail no longer crashes. Must have been something in the settings when it tried to check mail.
Hello!
Had CM 10.2 latest stable version up and running, in the process of downloading all my apps and restoring some stuff from titan back up. A few things like message/phone contacts said it would require a reboot to show the changes, so I rebooted and got the error
"Unfortunately The Process Com.android.phone Has Stopped"
at the lock screen, wifi on but no phone signal. If I got the chance to hit "ok", it would close and reboot, in a non-stop loop. So common sense told me to do a wipe from recovery and reboot, so I'm back to square one with all my apps and backups.
Some google-fu told me that using titan back up on some "system" backups will cause this loop, and that was the only back up that suggested a reboot, so I have to assume it was that. I never saw this mentioned anywhere during the process, just wondering if there is a way around it? Right now I have no numbers saved or my old conversations, mostly I just want my contacts as anyone can understand. Open to any suggestions!
Google backs up everything if you let it, that's the best and fastest way.
Don't restore system apps or data.
It's better to not restore anything at all, unless you're really lazy and must.
