I FINALLY plugged my phone back on to the charger.
Almost 2 1/2 hours screen on time, about 90 minutes talk time, random browsing, maps usage while out. Screen was at 100% brightness for the first 35 hours, then 50% brightness until this morning when it auto set to 6% for battery conservation. Wifi on, overriding 4G when possible. I am literally stunned as how long one charge went.
NICE !!! But make sure you realize your phone is sleeping the majority of that time, so you have to consider that time as standby and not actual 'usage per say'
2h screen is almost insignificant.
I can reach 150h easily leaving the phone in a dark room for a few days.
Nothing special.

Yeah, the phone was asleep a lot. Big whoop. I used it like I normally would have used my Rezound. I got over 10x the battery life with my NORMAL usage. I'm pretty pleased with that.

My Galaxy Note I could get 14 hours of it with light usage. G2 same? 60 or more.
I don't get why people have to immediately start saying that it's not normal usage or even cheating, etc..
96 hours and 6% were used from the screen (so 2h 23m)... theres nothing special about it, really.
Its a great standy/idle time but.. not even worth to compare with a normal/power user and not even worth to make a thread about it...

And why can I not be a "normal" user. I used that phone exactly like I used my last phone. Check in on social media from time to time, read forums for a little bit, talk some, use maps, etc. I just don't rely on it as heavily as others. But any time you have a smart phone with 4G that you can toss in your pocket and use for two plus days reliably, that's something worth noting. My HTC Rezound if left to sit in standby and never touch wouldn't go 12 hours or so before being dead.
So yeah, I think it's worth noting. Not everyone has to use their phone as their primary means of everything electronic.
well, 96 hours = are 4 days.. and in this 4 days the screen was on for like over 2 hours. I dont know but that makes no sense fro me.. for me it actually looked like you just waked up your phone to check the battery
I mean, its cool for you that you reached such time, but why making a new thread and show some nonsense?
On my last cycle i watched it was like 8 hours screen on time within like 51 hours from 100% to 3%.. did i make a new thread? nope.

I think Kewkie is the only one wasting everyone's time. These threads are created for researchers who plan on buying. Finding a forum with tons of positive feedback isn't a waste of everyone's time. My galaxy Nexus had 2 hours screen on time but would be completely dead in 8 hours. So to have the same screen on time and it go another 90 hours! That's thread worthy.
Maybe instead of bashing, you could throw up your own screenshots. Lots of forums have uptime battery threads.
If we don't have one, maybe the OP could edit the title and make an official battery posting thread. They are handy to have to compare roms and various versions. For example I just got the 12B Verizon update and my battery seems to have taken a hit. It would be nice to have before and after results.

Let the OP express what his feedback is towards the phones battery life
@op Nice stats you have there thats like what 4 days without a charger and almost 2 hours and 30mins of SOT is quite impressive IMO
coming from the Note II i thought battery life was king till i bought this phone
See my post, im not hesitant to show my stats

I find it interesting to say the least. I have an old motorola droid RAZR HD. When I charge it and just leave it for my alarm clock it will get 10+ days easy of idle time. However android os isn't the highest. Idk why but it seems the g2 android os is always a significant portion of the battery. Wonder what it could be.

It's the knock on feature. If you disable it, your G2 can live for a month

Maybe i do, actually i dont care, and for some guys maybe im telling the truth.
So you will tell us, that its fine when a guy is doing an research for the battery and finds this thread and thinks "wow 100 hours batteryife, damn thats sick!" so what if the guy who did the research is an poweruser and just can reach like 50? 55? hours because his screen time is 3-4 times more than the OP's one?
And i dont post sreens because i dont take a screenshot of any loading cycle and fap on it. I use my phone as an smarthphone and dont trim it to a useless phone without mobile data, without syncing, without getting messages from social media, whatsapp, viber, whatever.
So if you think im wasting others time, dont answer me or stop reading my posts
Just cause im telling the truth doesnt mean im a troll or whatever.
And 96 hours with 2h 23m screen on time is like, put the phone into a room and let it idle. I could make such test and i bet i can get even more hours, but why should i waste 5-6 days without using my smartphone as an smartphone, to show how great my batterylife is? No, sorry.. im fine when i can use my phone for like 2 days with a great screen on time and use my smartphone probably.
Why i post here then? Well, to open "researchers" eyes and those guys should look at the screen on time and dont get blended by the thread title.

Does this app drain anyone's battery and make it really hot? Is it just me? I googled around and see this for other devices but can't find any info for this device.
Yes. That was the first app I killed as soon as I could. Not sure what the deal is with it specifically but it was always running and keeping the cpu heated.
alright thanks for the info, its a pretty nice game tho [;
WWF was one of the first battery drainers identified in Entropy's Known Identified Battery draining apps thread in the General Forum.
That said, as long as you don't sit staring at the screen trying to find a word for extended periods of time, and set it's polling times down to 30 minutes or an hour, it doesn't eat that much battery. I can still get idle deep sleep percentages in the low to mid 90's with it installed and set on 1 hour polling.

WordFeud is a much nicer alternative - just doesn't have an iphone app or web interface so it makes cross platform gaming tough. If you are only playing with other android users, you might try to get them to switch...
is get around 90-85% with about an hour of music/a bit of texting here and there. from about 7 am to 2:30 am. is that good, without words with friends installed ofc.

Anyones gs2 seem to drain battery quite quick? Ive had a few android phones and the gs2 battery seems to fly down.. Im a heavy user most days like get up in morning facebook and apps all day long.. Strange thing is though i get about 5 mins worth of usage before it drops the first line off the battery.. I get max of about 5 hours of heavy use before i need to recharge.. This normal for gs2?

I am using the stock ROM and not having any issues with the battery lasting less than a day. I had to make a few changes to the settings, but once tweaked I am really happy with it.
Normal for me... a day and a half of light to moderate use. Plenty of syncing every hour, lots of Wifi and GPS, never switch any radios off, lots of FM Radio, auto brightness.... blah blah.
KL1 + LPR baseband, stock rooted, bloat removed. No silly apps, no silly task killers, no battery defenders/benders/superchargers/tweaks or other nefarious idiocy
Im fully aware on how to search.. Wasnt asking for tips on battery life just generaly wondering if my stats was worse then the majority of users on here..

You're phone is active most the time, rarely sleeps. If you compare with mine above, you notice that the activity is in short infrequent bursts. The screen being on takes a huge amount of power - it's a big screen. And OLED.
I would say considering the sheer amount of use you give it, it's doing rather well... NO comparable smartphone (except the Razr Maxx) will give you much different. It can't.
By the way. not sure why the battery falls off a cliff from around 30% in your pic - scary!
1st, the post was apparently originally posted in a different location, then got moved to the Q&A section by a moderator.
2nd, your screenshot has what looks like a LOT of screen on time. What are your display stats for screen on time? (hh:mm:ss) From my estimation just looking at the bar graph, it looks like you have over half, and nearly 2/3, if not 3/4 of your overall battery time with the screen on, and the phone being "awake". With your overall battery time being 7:16:39, from your screenshot, that's about 3.5 to 4 hours of screen on time? If you are constantly using the phone, or keeping the screen on, it logically follows that the battery will drain.
3rd, JJEgan's point was this: This entire forum is meant for developers. (the name of it is "XDA Developers", after all) Yes, there is a Q&A forum, but more and more, users who are not developers are posting all over the boards stuff like "why is my phone doing blah blah blah" on commonly answered questions, (which is a clear indication that they didn't look or search very hard for the answer, even if they say they did) or, even more offensive in my opinion, "upload XXXX file for me" without so much as a please.
Non-developers are welcome, obviously - heck, anyone can join. But more and more people completely disregard the forum rules, which are plainly posted for everyone to read at the very top of each forum section.
Ahh ok.. Sorry.
I joine the forum as i have a genuine interest in all things phones wise.. Wether that be cooking roms, mods tweaks etc etc.. I dont come on here on the sole basis of asking questions.. Every now and again somethings niggle me about my device so the best place for info surely is xda developers. Though i only use the app at the minuite to view posts i did'nt actually know where the search link was. Though now i do i will use it...
Anyways:
Yea i did notice that big drop on the end of the battery stats.. Thats happened a few times ive noticed.
Dont think ive seen anyone elses screenshots look like that.. Could it be a sign of a dying battery? Or just wrong stats.
Ive read that the battery stats clearing does nothing as the stats it shows is whats using the power n not actual battery level.
My phones only about 5 months old too so everything in it should be in as new condition.
Strange..

I've been on the G2x since about when it came out (horrible decision...) I've made that phone mostly usable to me but because of nVidia, the devs are always going to be stuck with no drivers for Tegra.
I see I can get the Amaze for free right now at T-Mo. Is it worth it? I know it doesn't have ICS yet but I assume that's coming (there's a certain update to ICS exchange support that makes it a very important update for me so I can get my work email)
Battery life on the G2x has always been pretty miserable for me too. I got that phone way too early and there wasn't enough people using it to really research it at the time. I'm hoping to avoid that mistake with whatever my next phone is.
1- The Amaze does have ICS, in fact, you wont find a GB Rom in the front page of development
2- Amaze battery Life is amazing for me
3- gdfgsdgrgregesrgersgsg??!?!?!
4-Search before posting?
5- a squirrel??
The Amaze does have ICS with Sense 3.6
The phone might look free but they will charge you the extra $15-$20 a month on your bill for the phone.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great phone and since we got the ICS leak its been even better. But with other phones releasing around the corner it might be a wise choice to wait for different options. But I'm not saying that the new phones will be better just saying wait till you find out what you really want.

I know about the ICS leak but that's not official yet And I love rooting my phones...but I've been using my G2x for a year so I'm quite acquainted with all my options. It will always take a while to figure out what ROMs are good for me (personally) or not on any given phone. I've been bitten by too many 'promised' official releases that never happened to never assume.
I'll do a little more research on this one but maybe I'll keep waiting. If I can make it until Google releases all their phones...

True the phone itself I can easily say is my favorite! I've owned 8 android phones. All rooted and custom rommed of course. Its sexy, great camera, great build quality, fast&stable. HUGE cons are the battery life and the dev support.

To be honest, I think the Amaze is so-so. I've been fortunate enough to have tried quite a few phones and the Amaze hasn't done a great job standing out.
The biggest problem with this phone is that the battery life is beyond terrible - worse than any phone I've had in the past. I mainly use my phone (or any of my smartphones for that matter) to respond to business emails and texts. My phone doesn't even last half of the day without needing a full recharge.
I had a G2X and although I wasn't too fond of its build quality (especially how the screen is not completely flat), I would suggest that you stick with it. There aren't too many improvements (in my opinion) that justifies the jump.

I'm very happy that i got the Amaze when i did but back then there was little to no Dev on it,but in the past month or so since S-OFF & the ICS "leak" there's been a ton of Development for it,I'm loving SpeedROM which is blazing fast & has great battery life.I came from a Sensation(which i still have but am looking to sell),the Sensation has a shiat ton of ROMs but they're all the same basically. The Amaze has a beast of a camera,is blazing fast with both cores running & Sense 3.6 is the icing on the cake,i just can't wait for Sense 4.0.
So...In my opinion the HTC Amaze is a GREAT phone(build quality is superb). If i were to add another line I'd grab another one ;-)

I agree with everything except booming development... There are less than 10 devs and not much variety to choose from. Not to mention, they're all the same devs we had with gingerbread.

Yeah it's so weird. Some people are reporting excellent battery life and others are reporting poor battery life. If it helps, I'm using the stock ROM on 2.3.4 (HTC Sense 3.0). I'm getting a replacement this Friday since the speaker randomly pops when listening to music and using the buttons on the bottom. Hopefully the phone lasts longer than this one or else I'm going to have to get a replacement battery. If none of those fix the problem, time to fire up the old MyTouch.

First off you are incorrect, that was a classic plan price, not value. Value is only sold online currently as SIM only service, phone and EIP are not given online.
regardless, the free Amaze is over and its back to $150
So what are you looking for? I've used an S2, Sensation, HD2, Vibrant, and Amaze within the past 18 months. Here are my pros/cons of my Amaze experience.
Pros:
Stable - few reboots
Best of breed camera
Build is solid
HTC mail app is better than some Android skins
Good form factor - big enough, but not too big
Resilient screen - seems more scratch-resistant than some others
Dedicated camera/camcorder buttons
Impressive data speeds
Cons:
Original battery started to occasionally lose sync with OS (which resulted in $8 to Carrier in exchange for backup battery)
Low Development on XDA
Light bleed from softkeys
NFC doesn't seem to work as advertised
Since getting the Amaze, my priorities have shifted from constant theming and modding to other things because of the lack of development and (until recently) impossibility of S-off. Now I've come to appreciate being able to effortlessly RMA my phone if necessary, and while waiting for ICS was occasionally difficult, Tmo anounced its availability in 5 days. I expect battery life to increase, latency to decrease with dual-core utilization, hopefully usefulness added to the NFC capability. But as mentioned before, if you need Roms enjoy your phone, look elsewhere.

It's not that weird... Usage varies between users. Juice defender does the trick for me... If u want a long lasting battery, don't wake your phone... It's simply a battery hogging display... And that is that

How is it not weird. Some people are talking/surfing/watching movies for hours on their phone and get hardly any battery depreciation whereas others (me included) are checking emails and texts and not even getting 6 hours of usage.
Don't wake the phone? What's the point of having a cell phone if you're not going to use it...

Lol maybe u took me the wrong way. People with great battery life use aftermarket batteries and apps like juice defender. Some of them may also exaggerate their usage. Bottom line doesn't change.
With stock OEM battery, no juice defender, AND you use your phone, you ABSOLUTELY have ****ty battery life. It's simple. Not weird.
Also, some people use more widgets than others, more sync options, notification options... This isn't rocket science
Also, tapatalk is the biggest battery hog ever.

Motorola aiming to upgrade all possible devices to Jelly Bean, promises to give you $100 credit if it can't
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/05/motorola-jelly-bean-upgrades/
That's actually pretty interesting.
Thinking about it a bit it seems to work out in Moto's favor quite a bit. They'll update their newest phones and the people who are using their older phones will have incentive to get a newer model and thus give them more money.
HTC could do something like this.
I don't know that I'd buy another motorola, don't get me wrong, I love the phones, but the locked bootloader and slowness of updates kinda kills it for me. They're probably doing this to keep business from going elsewhere due to these problems.

Pre-emptive strikes pre iPhone & to climb back up. The RAZR Maxx needs to go multi-carrier , well really just the 3,300 mAh spec on the bar phones.
Good moves.

Its $100 off a new handset.
Not exactly the same. If they failed to upgrade I wouldnt want to buy another phone they'll fail with
thats not exactly hard to do since they have the line in there all "new and currently selling devices..."....doesn't cover stuff sold 1yr ago...so in that case HTC could easily cover this as the ONE series as a whole should be able to get it....ie they could say it and NOT upgrade the EVO3D and not have to pay 100bux as the evo3d isn't being sold anymore brand new since its EOL at sprint...
I'd take a HTC running ICS over moto running JB any day of the week!
Can't stand the subpar display moto uses.
Slightly off topic but HTC should have hired Steve Kondik
Got stuck with a permalock bootloader on the photon and complained until I got an early upgrade to this phone. Plus they promised ics for the phone right outta the gate and peeps will be lucky to get it before 2013. I will not buy moto again, no way no how.

HTC should do the same AS WELL AS make it mandatory that all their phones have removable batteries AND make them last all day because NONE of the current crop of phones has a battery that can last 24 hours. All the screen shots that show that much time are from people that don't really use the phone much at all.
Also a micro sd in addition to internal storage should have been mandatory

i managed 2 1/2 days mediium use and almost 3 days with light to no use, using it hardcore on 3g for hours on end i managed 5 before i started running the battery down (using phone while charging) and even now that i definitely know ive shortened the battery life i can still manage 2.75 hours non stop hardcore use on 3g, when i switch to wifi this phone becomes the terminator and refuses to die lol if only i got that kind of use on cm, but hey its a nightly and these last 2 update are very close to my normal life, pretty soon they will surpass it

Over a day with over 3 hours of screen on time which included video streaming is pretty damn impressive considering how I was using a high brightness setting and how big the screen on this phone is.
You're expecting too much without showing any understanding of why it isn't easy to get a high end phone to last all day. It has high powered components that draw more power, as well as a bigger screen than most phones on the market. What we get from it is impressive and it isn't going to dramatically improve anytime soon, unless they start to include DROID RAZR MAXX sized batteries, which I doubt will happen soon.

I don't think i expect too much, just a battery that can last 24 hours with normal usage.
I couldn't even get 24 hours out of the raxr maxx although it came the closest.
Basically you're saying you get over a day while only using the phone for 3 hours. On a work day I'll do 4 hours just to and from work, then time during lunch and sporadic phone checks during the day and after so many hours of use, phone dies.
My galaxy s 3 had gotten me 17 hours once, but the phone was just sitting there for the most part.
I tested the standby time and just let it drain and got 3 days it of it, would have been more of i didn't send that text lol
I just want a better battery

You're getting stuck on the concept that you're only "using" your phone for as long as the screen is on. Even when the screen is off, it's doing a lot of work.
With current battery technology paired with high powered phones, you just aren't going to get that full day with a ton of screen on use that you want. We all want that. It's just not really possible right now.
So I just got my HTC one on Sunday night. The first thing I did is let the battery charge up and then drained it to less than 3% and recharged. Ive been getting horrible battery usage since Sunday and am starting to worry that I might have a hw issue. For example, today I woke up at 5:30 and unplugged my phone. Its now 10:15 and I am at less than 30% with less than 30min of screen time (in battery save mode). Should I just go back and replace with my 30 day warranty? Or should I try to calibrate it? I have yet to root it because I just got it, so no custom kernels or roms that might be draining it. The idle and HTC Sense seem to be the programs draining it the worst based on the stock battery usage report.
Give it a few cycles

I really dont understand the "give it a few cycles" or "let it settle in" statements when it comes to battery life. This is software, not some mechanical machine. how does cycles or settling in effect anything? Can someone please explain

I don't know the exact mechanics of it but battery life almost always improves after using it for a little while, that's the way phones work
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Wow, that's a lot. You may want to check apps running in the background. The culprit on mine is the Kernel and there's nothing I can do about it.
I'm actually getting pretty much the same battery life. Prior to the update my average was 13 hrs. 4 hrs screen time. All on stock.

I've never heard of the whole settling of the battery with my previous phones. Usually just the whole make sure to drain it all the way the first time and get a full charge, then it would be good. That being said, I could very well be wrong and you may be right, but if it is a hardware issue I would like to return before its too late

I see how this could make sense for a device that is fresh from the factory (no cycles on it)
I'm referring to when someone has had a device for months and flashes a new ROM. people use the "let it settle" justification for when new roms are flashed. I'm just trying to understand what exactly happens during this "settling" period improves battery life over time

i'm not 100% sure but my assumption would be that, new ROMs change your phone entirely. they assign different values to resources, it pretty much changes everything that your battery has grown custom to, so maybe the battery needs to settle in and get used to how resources are now being used.
i also notice reduce battery life. went back to 4.1.2.

It's mainly for the kernel. It has to run thousands of lines of new code, build the caches, add thumbnails, sync all your stuff, etc. It usually doesn't take a few cycles though, just one.

As people have said, you have to let it go through a few cycles before it proforms stably. When I first got mine it was the same situation you describe, couldn't even make it through half a day without charging. Without changing anything (seriously, everything is still stock), that increased to regularly getting 40hrs per charge with about 2hrs screen on time. I could claim that the software is learning or that the hardware handling the battery is improving, but I don't know, I just know that this is a pretty universal phenomenon and it is real. And for me 4.3 had only made it better (not much though, but definitely not worse).
Just give it time, it's about to get good
Also, I can tell you from my tests earlier on that wifi was one of my biggest battery drains, so I just don't use it at all now. But you could just get in the habit of turning it off at certain times or get tasker to handle that). Also power saver is useful, I do notice it slow down but only in the text message app, everything else is still very smooth and fast. And yes, even now the Android system averages 80% of total drain for me. A large portion of that is wakelocks, and there's lots of excellent tutorials on xda about how to find and deal with some of them. Personally I've made my peace with the ones I encounter, so although people tell me losing 5-8%overnight to them is too much, I'm fine with that. Again, much better now than my initial use led me to believe.

If it's draining as fast as you say suggestion is charge it up, put it in airplane mode over night. If it still drains, bring it back for a replacement.
