I want to root my DNA - HTC Droid DNA

Just picked up a Droid DNA off craigslist, does not have a sim card installed and i do not plan on putting one in. I bought it for use on wifi, play games and music. I am not going to use it as an actual phone. can anyone lead me to a current root method, would prefer a one touch or something simular, but ill take what i can get. lol.. also am i going to run into any problems not having a sim card installed? It is working fine now, just not sure how it will react to a factory reset or a root. thanks all

Need to know what firmware you are on to help
To find this go to Settings >About >Software information >More >Build number
If you are on 3.xx you will use Rumrunner to S-off and unlock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559232
If you are on 2.xx you will use Moonshine to S-off and unlock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314771
Not having an installed SIM shouldn't cause any issues.
Have fun. :good:

build number is 1.15.605.4 cl123160 release-keys
how can i update that

If you download PDANet on your computer it will install the correct drivers. Be sure to uninstall prior to Moonshine [uninstalling will leave the drivers].
Hope this helps, enjoy

What operating system is on you computer? Windows 8.1 can cause problems.

win 7
and my build number is 1.15.605.4 cl123160 release-keys would that be causing the problem

Hmmm, Okay. So when you go to "my computer" you don't see it as a drive at all?
Make sure your antivirus or firewall are not blocking it.
I'm trying to remember 1.xx software on my phone, been at least a year. Go to settings >security is there something in there like device administrators?

Try Device Manager and see if that helps, and again make sure your antivirus or firewall are not blocking.

yes, when i plug in the phone to the PC it does nothing, no noise like when i plug in my ipod or a thumb drive or anything and it does not show up in my computer at all.
I have turned off the firewall on the PC and also turned off the antivirus.. will try turning off the antivirus on the phone and see if that helps

Sorry, but before we can go any further, you are going to have to get your computer to see your phone. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it seems hardware related. Every computer I've ever plugged my phone into started loading drivers and asked what I would like to do with this device [always select open and view files]. Be sure you are using a good cable [even though I've not seen a bad one, I have heard of them]. Try using another computer. Once you get the computer to recognize your phone, everything else will be simple.
Once again, have fun, and good luck.

I backed upeverything I needed to save using airdroid andgoing to do a factory reset and see if that helps anything

well i did a factory reset.. and still same thing...computer is not seeing the phone at all...really getting annoying

If you are still on software version 1.15.605.4 look for the S-OFF method called Facepalm it will work for 1.15.605.4.
if you are having trouble with windows 8.x and HTC drivers check this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49909454&postcount=43

If it will let you, install the 2.04 or 2.06 update. Try to contact to your computer after that. I remember that being a bug in 1.15 for me...

Can't Access Note 2 On PC

I juss got my Verizon Note 2, and was about to move some music and videos on it from my PC, but I ran into a strange issue. At first, when I plugged in my phone to my computer (Windows 8), Windows recognized the device, but no matter what mode I put it in, it never showed up in Windows Explorer. So, I tried downloading the Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit from XDA, but was unable to install it because it has yet to add support for the Verizon Note 2. So, I tried installing Kies, which installed my phone's driver, but won't actually recognize the device. When I look in Windows' device manager, I found the device was found under the name "SAMSUNG_Android", and had a yellow caution symbol next to it, and had the following text in the device status box:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

Any ideas on what to do?
P.S. I do have a 32GB microSD in the phone, in addition to the internal 16GB, but I have tried accessing the phone with and without the card installed.

It was already enabled for some reason. Huh. Well, it's still not working.
I couldn't access my phone on my computer either it ended up being that I had to use the stock cable that came with the phone instead of the ones I bought off ebay
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I'm having the same problem and neither the stock cable nor the cables from my GNex work. I have downloaded the Kies, deleted, re installed it numerous times with no luck. Also an aside, do the phones all come with a white cable and plug even when the phone is Gray?
Nevermind.
Make sure when you guys plug it into your pc that when you slide the notification bar down and it says conncected as installer you have to click that and check the box beside MTP. That solved my issue.

Has anyone successfully gotten Kies to work? I'm on a MacBook Pro with no luck so far. Switched over to Windows and still no dice. So has Verizon just completely blocked us from using Kies???

[Q] Programs can't connect to Droid DNA through COM port

I have an HTC Droid DNA that I hope to get switched over to MetroPCS. I have done this several times so I thought it would be no problem, but then I ran into a problem. No program I have tried (QPST, CDMA Workshop, DFS) can connect through the com port. The drivers are installed correctly and I tried updating them to no avail. Tried different usb ports and cables. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. Uninstalling and reinstalling htc sync. When i go into qpst configuration to add the port it sees it but doesnt have any info and when i open the service programming it doesnt detect a phone at all. In CDMA workshop it connects to the port but when I try to read the info it just comes back with garbage data and it gives an error when I try to send the SPC. Also the "HTC 9K DEV" isnt installed but I've heard it has something to do with LTE so that shouldnt matter right? are there drivers for this? I've been searching but haven't found anything that helps :/ Any help appreciated...

Are you running the stock ROM, what OS are you on, does this require adb? Just a few basic things. The DNA sometimes seems to have problems communicating so need to know some things.

Sorry, I knew I forgot to put something haha. I was on the stock Rom, tried unrooted then rooted just in case. I'm on FactoryROM now with the same result. My os is win 7 ultimate and I don't believe it requires adb but it does work with adb. Man I hope I can get this working, I already love this phone...
Thanks
So I tried it on a fresh win7 installation and still nothing so im going to try a different version. I'm currently using version 2.7 build 362 what do you guys use? do you possibly have a link?
EDIT: Tried build 366 and its the same. I tried build 378 and it says APQ8064 under phone 0 for esn and phone number and banner are blank and when i try to connect it says "online connection error: unspecified error" but at least it sees the phone now... Is there like a special way you're supposed to connect this phone or something? I have been doing it the same way i did my HTC Droid Eris, HTC Evo Shift 4G, and HTC Evo 3D...
EDIT2: Just found out that APQ8064 is the model number for the Snapdragon processor in the Droid DNA so at least it is seeing the phone and recognizing it...
HTC Sync supposedly (I haven't tested this) causes interference with the communication you need for the rooting exploit. Maybe it's also causing interference with the programs you're trying to use.
Just a thought.

Do you have USB debugging enabled?
yeah it is.. ugh I'm out of ideas...
Try turning USB debugging off. If that doesn't work, you could try resetting your phone.
If that still doesn't work, your computer may have downloaded faulty drivers. PM me and I can send you the ones from my phone, if you want.

2- i have enabled usb debugging mode connection and still nothing
3- i have the stock gingerbread 2.3.6

Snappea is an app for both windows and your android via which you can connect to your pc
1. First download and install Snappea (Google it "SnapPea" since i cannot post outside links)

Oh then Idk i've never looked into it.
I'm having the same problem with my i777 model.
I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers, I updated the drivers, I tried debugging mode and I've tried "Mass Storage" mode.
Mass Storage mode was the only one that seemed to work for me, when I tried debug mode it would constantly connect and disconnect.
When I try without being in any of those modes, my phone will connect. My computer will recognize and then randomly my phone or computer wont be able to see each other anymore. Like my phone will disconnect from MTP-initialization (but still charge like it's plugged in)...I'm really interested in rooting my phone, but I don't want to since I can't connect my phone correctly. I don't want a $200+ phone becoming a brick and I can't replace it very cheap (anytime soon at least).
Here's phone info if it helps any..?
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-i777
Android Version: 2.3.6
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7

All I did was turn off my phone, then I plugged it in, then turned it back on and it's doing good so far...might give it a shot, I dunno how well it's really working or nothing though.

Now it's in MTP Application and synchronizing, I'm just trying to back up my phone with Keis so if I do decide to Root, I can back everything back up.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to connect my phone to the computer so I can root it but when I plug the USB in windows doesn't recognise my device and fails to install the drivers. Here's a couple suggestions. Check to see if your cord is the culprit and switch them out. I forgot your phone is having issues with PC detection. Try and connect it to another computer to rule out your PC. Another option would be to find a "signed" ruu and flash it through your bootloader. I emphasize signed because only a signed ruu can flash on a s-on device with the bootloader relocked. Then again if your bootloader is unlocked there's no point in trying the ruu option. Lol

I emphasize signed because only a signed ruu can flash on a s-on device with the bootloader relocked. Then again if your bootloader is unlocked there's no point in trying the ruu option. Lol

My bootloader is already relocked, I'm trying to unlock it. Do you know where I could find a signed ruu? Can't hurt to try

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to connect my phone to the computer so I can root it but when I plug the USB in windows doesn't recognise my device and fails to install the drivers. I tried installing the newest HTC Sync and that didn't do anything to help. I tried uninstalling the drivers and reconnecting my phone but that didn't work either. I just got the same message.
Any help is much appreciated

Thanks guys, I'll try the signed ruu and try a different PC but unfortunately I only have one cable I can't really try that one till I get borrow a phone cable
Right well it's not the computer, it won't connect to my laptop either, I've tried restarting both the phone and the computer/ laptop and the signed ruu didn't help either
I believe its safe to say that perhaps your phones hardware got damaged somehow. It really sucks because had it been something else, you couldve used the wire trick to gain s-off and put your phones bootloader back on "locked" state. Ran the ruu and could've took it in for repair. My best guess is to take it to a non sprint repair shop and hopefully they will fix it for you. Good luck.
I'm already s-off. I didn't know this previously so I'll give that a go, thanks

I have tried everything please help

Computer wont recognize my device anymore. I have downloaded every set of drivers from this forum, from the samsung website, I even tried downloading kies but it wouldnt recognize it either.
It worked before I did the following and now it doesnt.
First I rooted my phone with route 66 everything was going fine until I made the huge mistake (not knowing) and downloaded rom manager so that I could do a nandroid backup. Well as we all know now, you cant do that. So I got the deadly uellow verizon triangle saying unauthorized software bring it to the store. So I went through the xda forums and found the one that told me how to fix it. I used odin with the alternate restore and got it back up and running. So I wanted to go back and use adams one click unlock and root. I got everything downloaded and ready. I put my phone in developer mode and plugged it in. It starts trying to find the drivers and then it flips from debugger mode to media mode everytime. It starts seeing it as everything but a samsung phone. It says found camera and even cd rom but not the phone. I have read through everything and tried everything I could think of but I am at a loss. PLEASE HELP

Turn off your phone, connect to your computer with the USB cord and turn back on your phone. It should start the drivers and connect to your device.

I tried that, it is still not seeing it like it is supposed to. I was able to get Odin to recognize it so that I could flash the rooted stock again but I can't get Casual Jailbreak to work. I'm not sure if it is because the drivers or not but I am guessing it has something to do with it. Every time I plug it in, it starts searching for drivers and then always switches from usb debugging mode to media mode. The checkmark is still in usb debugging but I don't think it actually is. You can watch it go from device as installer to media.
Are you using the driver install app (zadig i think its called) to install the heimdall driver on top of "gadget serial". Looking at your other post it seems like a driver issue. One thing ive noticed is, if odin can see the device then heimdalll cant and vice/versa. So if odin can see it you have the wrong driver, if you are infact installing the heimdall driver my second question is, does windows xp x64 use driver sig enforcement like win7 x64 does? if so you probably need to disable it. Just throwing my $0.02 out there.
Are you using the official USB cable? I had an aftermarket cable that had worked for months, then decided to quit working. It works with other devices just not the Note2. Changed to my original cable and all is well.

Also try plugging it in to the PC and not through a hub/keyboard/monitor port

If it sees the device in the dumb verizon cd mode thing and ptp than it can see adb. Its not the cable. however i would try setting the usb debugging first than set it to camera mode. adb should still be able to pick it up
Thank you everyone for your help, I finally got the drivers working and the bootloader unlocked

How? Fixing to unlock my spanking new note also. I had the drivers issues late last night. When installing drivers through the Z app I never could get it to install Samsung usb drivers nor did I see serial gadget option. Running Windows Vista 64bit. I know I have Java.
