[ROM] [AOSP] [4.4.2] [email protected] [BareBones] - Nexus 5 Android Development

No nonsense near-pure aosp build with lowlevel optimizations.
Note: the rom only has en_GB localizations built-in.
Download ROM: https://app.box.com/s/fl0080htdp40l37lwles
It doesn't contain a kernel or gapps, so you need to download & flash these yourself.
[email protected] will work with: aosp-based kernels (not tested with CM, AOKP, PA & other colourfully-named derivatives)
The ROM is my daily driver but do test ahead, enjoy & let me know how it fares for you.

Which optimisations? Source?

Yes, more informations, as rules say, please ... look at pinned post from moderator
... N5 rulez ...

looks like this rom belongs in android development, not in the original development section.

The following are reasonable formats that are suggested when posting a new ROM. We expect your ROM post to look somewhat professional and easy to understand.
1. Requirements (bootloader version, radio version etc)
2. State that it's from an official manufacturer or source base (stock ROM or AOSP-like source).
3. Thread shows a clear overview of changes made, in a way that users can see what has changed.
4. Explicit installation instructions.
5. ROMs need to identify what kernel they are using. If 100% stock then they must state that.
6. If custom kernel they must provide a link to the kernel on XDA (if available) or a link to the kernel source. This is required by GPL. Stock (untouched) kernels can link to the manufacturers source (if available).
7. At least 2-4 images (screen-shots) 1 of which must be of system/device info. Do not use photo hosts thay deluge users with ads and popups when they select the image. You can either attach the images, or use a hosting service such as photo-bucket for example.
8. Links to downloads. A link to a direct download is preferred. Linking to external websites home pages are not allowed, it must be linked to the Downloads page. Also use of "ad-driven" (adfly for example) or "commercial" sites are mostly not allowed. Registration on some sites "may" be allowed, but is subject to XDA Moderation approval.
9. Credits for sources used. Very important.
10. Keep your "asking for donations to a limit. You already have a "Donate" button.
Simply posting a link to some download site "here it is, download it", is not allowed.
Any questions, please feel free to contact any moderator.

1: the OP contains enough info for the person with at least average intelligence
2: the rom is my daily driver; everybody has different needs thus the "testing" to see whether it fits the aforementioned needs
3: I definitely appreciate constructive criticism; please refrain from commenting if you're gonna do it just for the sake of commenting. Furthermore nobody is forcing you to use it.
Peace.

technically as this download contains NO kernel parts, source is not required.
@adwinp
are you going to provide support for this ROM?
or are you just sharing your download?

PLEASE make sure to thank the developer for the dedication to his ROM
Please do not clutter the Development thread with non development-related chatter
FAQ
Q Why a special Q&T Thread for a specific ROM??
A The bigger a ROM development thread gets, the greater the chance that posts are being placed in this thread that are not related to the ROM development itself, e.g. problems with flashing, installation, bugs, things not working etc. However this is understandable, it's not according to the guidelines of XDA for Development sections. Therefore the main goals of the ROM specific Q&T threads is to avoid this cluttering of the original develpment thread with these OT posts by redirecting the posters to the ROM specific Q&T thread and also to relieve the developer from answering these post, so he can dedicate his time to developing.
Q How to move my post to the Q&A/T thread?
A Copy the text of your post in the dev's thread, got to the Q&A/T thread and paste it there. After having done that, go back to the dev's thread, edit your post and change the text into: moved to Q&A/T thread, preferably accompanied with a link to this thread.
Q When I'm asked to move my post to the Q#A/T thread, do I have to do that?
A When you're asked to move your post, there will always be given an explanation by the OP of the Q&A/T, e.g. your post is not development related (f.i. SD card problems, etc), so please be so kind to move your post. If you want to help the dev to keep his original thread as clean as possible from OT posts, then the answer is, of course, YES. Although we cannot force you to move your post, it's highly recommended to do so
Q Where can I download this ROM and How do I install?
A You can find the link to download and installation instructions HERE. Pay close attention to this post, everything required for a successful flash is listed right here. If you fail to follow the instructions or meet the requirements for installation, you could run into some problems.
Q What are the known issues with these ROM's?
A See THE Developer's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311852
Q How’s battery life?
A I see this question asked repeatedly across all ROMS. Honestly there is no way to give you an answer based on a ROM. There are too many variables in question and results vary from user to user and device to device. Battery life is going to depend on age and condition of your battery, your use habits with your device, installed apps, tweaks, settings, etc...
Q How do I...
A Ask your questions and report your issues in this thread. You will receive a response and hopefully get you back up and running this ROM to it's fullest
Explaining the purpose of our Q&A/T threads for specific ROM's to posters.
"Hi dear followers of this ROM,
in this post I will explain the goal of this specific thread created for this ROM with the permission of the Developer of this specific ROM.
This is a statement made in the Q&A/T template thread:
"While our forum has slowly been morphing, the one area we would like to keep original is Development
The goal is to alleviate the OT banter that occurs within any rom. While the XDA forum continues to grow, we need to help users work within the guidelines created by XDA. Over the last couple of years the average rom being created, has become a free for all chat thread. There tends to be much infighting and mod/developer cleaning.
The idea of this template is to create a Questions and Answers for each rom. This is in no way asking for Development to be moved here, rather any and all conversation that is non Development related to your conjoined Q&A."
This means that non-development related posts, should be posted - with the permission of the Dev - in this thread. What are the most common Off Topic posts, that should be posted in this Q&A/T thread?
1. Battery life related posts
2. Will this app work with this ROM
3. SD Card related problems
4. How do I dowmload and install this ROM, etc, etc
Hope to have given you enough information,
kindest regards, Kuzibri
I love this Beautiful ROM
Hoping some quick fixes from sports on CM 10.1 and jeepers incorporates the same
Great work jeep

why no wifi in new 7/20/13 aokp unofficial
hi yes i have an issue with new rom i have been using aokp unofficial since july 3 with that version and it worked very well thank you to all that had a hand in the rom!
blue tooth and battery were the only issues random reboot from turning on bt or off or going in the settings for bt but most every thing else is a massive improvement from offical ics from 2012 from my phone carrier! so last night i got the 7/20/13 version and it loaded just fine using cwm had to install gapps again and long story short the wifi antenna didnt show up only phone 4g and bt work is any one else having this issue!
also i installed and mod version of this (the guy with the sony experia z theme made last night) and same issue no antenna for wifi found! so now im back at 3/7/13 aokp version with the bt issues but wifi working again!
did i miss somthing other people did as they are happy or are they the type that only use 4g for data and never bother with wifi?
fixed the issue was not the firmware but CWM i switched to 4EXT and it worked first try now im rocking the latest 4.2.2 now for the bugs out of 4.3 and i cant wait for TRIM

Saw b.u.x thread, Looks like he shared CyanogenMod sources, He's github repository which has only some commits and PhilZ touch recovery sources!
But for kernel he shared BadaDroid sources and Mod locked his thread for kernel GPL license issue!
Here's mod msg-
Thread closed pending the release of sources. OP, please PM me when you're ready, thanks.
This thread is closed pending the release of the sources.
Kernel development is covered under the GNU GPL v2 license. This means that all necessary information should be available to every person interesting in compiling a kernel, including the source, information about the toolchain, etc.
Violating the GPL license means that kernel is technically illegal, and therefore can't be shared. As far as XDA is concerned, it's considered warez, and as such, discussions of this ROM/kernel aren't allowed and will be deleted without warning.

GNU General Public License*(GNU GPL*orGPL) is the most widely used*free software license, which guarantees*end users(individuals, organizations, companies) the freedoms to use, study, share (copy), and modify the software. Software that allows these rights is called*free software.
The GPL grants the recipients of a*computer program*the rights of*the Free Software Definition and uses*copyleft*to ensure the freedoms are preserved whenever the work is distributed, even when the work is changed or added to. The GPL is a copyleft license, which means that*derived works*can only be distributed under the same license terms. This is in distinction to*permissive free software licenses, of which the*BSD licenses are the standard examples. GPL was the first copyleft license for general use.
It is believed that the*copyleft*provided by the GPL was crucial to the success of*Linux-based systems, giving the programmers who contributed to the kernel the assurance that their work would benefit the whole world and remain free, rather than being exploited by software companies that would not have to give anything back to the community.
And it wasn't created by Xda
To protect our rights, GPL have made restrictions that forbid anyone to deny you these rights or to ask you to surrender the rights. These restrictions translate to certain responsibilities for you if you distribute copies of the software, or if you modify it.
For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a fee, you must give the recipients all the rights that you have. You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get the source code. And you must show them these terms so they know their rights.
They(GPL) protect your rights with two steps: (1) copyright the software, and (2) offer you this license which gives you legal permission to copy, distribute and/or modify the software.

To remove CM keyboard just delete LatinIME with dictionaries from system/app/"here"

@DeveDroid, Can you please isolate beats audio and dolby digital from your Xperia Z1 rom?
I'm facing the issue of very low volume in my wave II and I'm hoping that beats audio and dolby digital should increase volume a little bit.

For what? L3, L5 or L7...
Can i flash on my l7?
Thanks!
Hey! that good this return.
I was able to find these errors:
The option to center the clock within the branch system settings does not work
The Sheer option of the status bar does not work
The style option does not work with battery or with circle circle with percentage only works with percentage.
The option to show status bar at the bottom does not work.
The option to display navigation bar does not work.
Apollo gives enough problems as cuts to the music as well as delays for several seconds.
For the rest it seems to me quite smooth and good rom.

Did you ask permission from @linuxxxx to use the kernel????
If not then you are in trouble.
Amazing work. Looking at the screenshots, this seems like a nice, clean CM9 with some rather pleasant UI modifications. I yet have to flash this and give it a try, so for the time being, you have my praise, and I hope you continue to actively develop this rom.
Now, for the Cyanoid Kernel. @theowner997, I believe that his part is done just by actively mentioning linuxxxx and his kernel 2 or 3 times in the post. He has given proper credits to it, and even linked fully, and since linuxxxx made an awesome job on his kernel, it shouldn't be reserved just for his Cyanoid ROM. To clear things up, if OP used the kernel without mentioning linuxxxx and his work, I would find that rather rude and shi*ty of him. This way, everyone gets credited for their work and the community stays alive with another ROM that has the potential to be on top together with Cyanoid, especially by having Cyanoid's guts. It's not about having one ROM, it's about having variety, and actively showing that the LG Optimus L3 is indeed a device with undiscovered potential. Thanks to linuxxxx and Assuense for their part in keeping this phone away from trash cans.

You should read the XDA rules first, you are not allowed to use someone's work without taking permission, even if he put his name in the credits.

12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails, you may then contact a Moderator and provide clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in the copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence that it was you who created the work, then in the spirit of sharing, all work will remain posted on the forums.
As an addition, developers have the right to hold exclusivity over their work for as long as it is deemed necessary by that developer. However, if the work is claimed as exclusive, it must remain as such. No selective sharing will be allowed (ie, allowing certain people to use it and not others). Should the developer decide to start sharing the work with others, the work automatically becomes fair game for all to use, albeit with the relative credit displayed.
In regard to permissions, the same rules apply for this but if permission was already given and unless there is a very valid reason, it cannot be revoked (same applies to major updates on the work). Under that same premise, permissions cannot be denied unless the work is exclusive or under extreme circumstances.
In plain English: If you want to keep your work exclusive, go for it. However, if you are going to share your work, do it fairly.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA (including but not limited to ROMs, RUUs, apps, games, kernels, themes, icons, etc) unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

Amazing work. Looking at the screenshots, this seems like a nice, clean CM9 with some rather pleasant UI modifications. I yet have to flash this and give it a try, so for the time being, you have my praise, and I hope you continue to actively develop this rom.

OK mr I know everything about my kernel and how I have to use it.
1- Kernel is under GPL v2, because of the Linux kernel license.
2- Open source DOES NOT mean no respect.
3- Yes it's true that he mentioned me but, give a look at the cyanoid kernel thread... Maybe someone didn't read well. Cyanoid kernel is for Cyanoid rom ONLY. I'm porting it for other Roms too, for other people, OK?
So, if you want to use Cyanoid kernel with your rom you can, but you have to ask at least permissions.
Shut up with this useless argument. I already spoke with assuence about this and I'll do the same with everyone that enjoy the art of copy-paste-steal
If you disagree I can tell you that you're breaking the #12 xda rule

I'll remove the old ROM of the air now and upload a new ROM with the kernel Gellmar.
EDIT:Uploaded non-SDMerge version
Updates will be released soon.
Assuense,
First and foremost, thanks for developing a ROM for teh tiny L3 .
I have 2 burning questions:
- Do you use your L3 daily?
- Is the "phone" part of the L3 important to you?
I've tried a bunch of ROMs. Some are slim, some have dancing unicorns and flashy doodads all over the place. I need the phone/calling/answering parts of the ROM to be stable and working. I need the SMS, GPS/Location & WiFi parts to be working too. I don't care about gaming or trying to watch HD movies on a small piece of plastic. Is there a known bug list of your ROM handy?

The phone, SMS, GPS/location seem to be working out of the box. It's been less than 24h testing this for daily use so I'll come back with an update soon.
A few UI glitches I noticed are present in most CM9-based ROMs:

Been using it daily for more than a month now.

What is the main benefit of your modded CM11?
On page 3 I read " ...It's faster, smoother and more battery friendly, but it's always CyanogenMod 11..."
Is this already the answer or is there another user friendly description I haven't found yet? I mean something which is easy to understand without reading tons of explanations or using a technical dictionary.

Hey there, it's me again. I just wanted to say that I found more or less what I was looking for
Someone put all the benefits of your mod plus useful hints in one single post in the official 'CM11 Nightlies' Thread.
Hi, It's based on M12 Snapshot? Many thanks.
Would you consider hosting ROM builds on some torrent enabled hosting? Torrents also includes crc/hash, supports download resuming (important on unstable 3G), parallel and p2p downloading (when selected mirror is overloaded) and there would be no issues with bad downloads/manual checksum checking before each flashing. I always burn torrent from AFH with bitburn (like burnbit.com/torrent/320771/cm_11_20141115_MARKOX89_i9100_zip) then feed it to Flud on my phone and it works like a charm, never worried about bad download. Only issue is that those AFH links that are burnt in this torrent will expire soon and may not work for others so at last one not expiring mirror would be required (or more seeders).
Mobile data not working
I can't seem to get my Mobile data working. I can make calls, send texts, use WIFI fine but It just won't connect to my mobile data.
I've tried.
Complete wipe with Hawker's scripts; NukeRom etc.
Different Kernels and Modems
Manual setup of APN's
Tons of reboots
I can post a log if no one seems to know a "quick fix"
Survey: which one is the most stable release according your experience?
Dear all,
i have flashed this rom only two times. First time i tried one released in march and the second time (and still using this one) the 20140723-MARKOX89-i9100 . I am not used to change what i consider "stable" if there is not a specific feature what i am greedy about or a bug that i consider critical to be fixed asap (like it happened in my case). This version is stable enough for me apart from couple of time per month when i have to disconnect battery or when music player stop working till a new reboot.
But actually curious to test last updates because i read (if i am not wrong) developers worked on kernel and improved even more this rom that already i consider incredible for my S2!
NOW!
i read some of view experienced weird behaviors with new releases so my question is: after the 20140723-MARKOX89-i9100 would you please suggest a specific release (please provide 2014XXXX-MARKOX89-i9100 name) which already benefits from the news implemented on kernel and which you tested and consider to be "stable" ?
Thank you all in advance!
C.D.

You can use either Apolo kernel v7.1 or Dorimanx 10.44 v005. Can't help you with the accuweather thing.

You are using a rom that is not meant for our phone. So performance and compatibility issues will be there. Flashing the stock rom with ota solves the camera problem for me. I've tried many custom ROMs, vibe, miui, etc. But they all have max camera resolution of 13 mp. Only stock rom gives full 16mp.
Thanks for reply bro
also someone uploaded material rom for octane plus. should i go for it or wait for sometime as you told that you will cook cynogenmod 11 for this device
Sure, give it a try. CM will take time, as the p5000 source hasn't been released yet. But I will eventually build a cm11 android 4.4.4 rom for this phone.
i also wanted to built a rom, can you assist me?
plz? i also wanted to help people by build a fantastic rom.
Sure. What help you need?
That ota img will work on my custom rom?

Don't know. These OTAs contain incremental patches that are not supposed to run on custom ROMs. But it might still work. Make a nandroid backup before trying.
What exactly ota stands for?i think its just for update stuffs.

OTA stands for 'over the air'. Yes, its for updating.

Even I want to know if any recovery has been ported to this device .
@incogno, @revolutionyzer
Yes, I just recently ported twrp 2.8.2.0 recovery from stock source. Also managed to find old twrp 2.7.0.0, CWM and Carliv. Links are in the second post. I Will work on my own ports of Carliv and CWM later. I'm thinking of starting a new thread for recoveries. For now, twrp 2.8.2.0 source code for those who are interested in further development - HERE.
As for custom ROMs, sadly there are no custom ROMs available for "Octane Plus". But there are lots of roms available for Chinese phones that are rebrands of octane Plus. These roms work just fine, but few bugs. Most will have max camra resolution of 13 mp. Stock rom has 16 mp resolution. Links for these roms -
