well before i start, i have to apologize due to the fact that maybe this has been answered in a previous thread.
I have a galaxy gt-i9300 and is rooted.
Since the last year i was able to install all cfw especially miui that i have most enjoyed.
The last month i wanted to turn to cyanogen and have installed cyanogen 11 but due to the bugs i turned back to a more stable 10.2.
I recently updated also the clockwork mod recovery to 6.0.4.6.
Since then i cannot install any miui version i get (status 7) and i can install only omega roms (samsung based) and cyanogen.\
Could you pls help me
p.s. I have done the solution where you edit the zip file but nothing worked "installation aborted"
is it maybe the new clockworkmod recovery?

JJEgan doesn't do specific Seriously though I think he means when you are in recovery mode use the wipe data/ factory reset mode before you flash your rom (although I normally do a full wipe) and if that does not work I think he is recommending to flash back to stock with odin then try again. If I have miss-understood his post then I am sorry

I don't do specific as i expect users to have read the faqs and guides before messing with a phone .
yes wipe and go back to the very beginning solves many problems .

I agree with you to a certain extent But unfortunately we live in the real world and "expecting" users to have read the faqs and guides does not happen in quite alot of cases and if they did the Q&A section would be very quiet place ( I have seen people ask questions when the answer was answered two or three posts behind .People do and will post simple questions long after we have left this wonderful forum without reading previous posts.
My point was that when people answer a question putting has much information as possible or posting links to help guides helps the person find a solution more quickly instead of endless "what do you mean" posts.
Anyway glad the op solved his problem

ok so i rooted my s2 , then i put the stock kernel back in .
is there a guide to show me what i have to do next ,because if i try putting my phone into download mode and try to back up the current rom or even try to install the miui rom .
all i get is a error saying failed to verify etc
can someone direct me to a guide showing me how to prep the s2 after rooting it so that i can change the rom on it .i have tried to find something showing me but cant seem to find a detailed guide
thanks in advance
You do not use download mode and Odin for flashing roms your lucky you haven't bricked it.
To flash a rom you need clockwork recovery so you need to flash a kernel that has clockwork embedded the reboot to recovery backup wipe and flash new rom

All the specific rom threads have detailed step-by-step instructions in their own threads. Which one are you trying to install?
Ok maybe this is the right place to ask another newbie question. I rooted my phone with hellcats' kernel (KF1). So now can I install any ROM. The reason I ask is coz I want to flash Litening ROM XXKG3 (i currently have stock ROM 2.3.3) and am confused if I need to have kernel KG3 in order to do so. Thanks in advance.

Then go to that post read it all understand what you are doing .
Follow the instructions dont make it up .
Install instructions:
- Reboot to CWM
- if you are coming from other rom (full wipe): wipe /system, /cache, /data and Dalvik-cache
- upgrade: wipe /system
- install zip from SD-card, select MIUI-1.X.X-beta.zip
Note that it is a beta Rom at your own risk .

Hey everyone, first post!
Before I begin, I should tell you that I have tried the search function, but it is currently down.
I'm having an issue flashing the latest Villianrom to my phone Which I read about and downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198334
I followed these instructions to update my phone: http://androidadvices.com/how-to-up...ii-i9100-to-gingerbread-xwkdd-2-3-3-firmware/
Then followed these instructions on how to root: http://androidadvices.com/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s-2-i9100-tutorial/
Everything seems to have gone well, aside from the yellow yield symbol displayed on startup. I have downloaded Rom Manager from the market, pushed the 'flash ClockworkMod Recovery' option, and that seems to have gone smoothly as well.
Here is where the problem comes...when I go to 'Install ROM fromSD Card' I scroll down and select VillianROM-2.4.2-signed.zip. I check the boxes marked 'Backup Existing ROM', 'Wipe Data and Cache', and 'Wipe Dalvik Cache'. From there it wants to Reboot and Install, saying press ok to reboot into clockwork mod recovery and continue you the installation.
The phone reboots, and I'm getting an E:failed to verify whole-file signature and an E:signature verification failed installation aborted.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? What have I done wrong?
Some basic info:
Phone - Samsung Galaxy S II
Carrier - Bell
Android version - 2.3.3
Baseband version - I9100XXKDH
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] #2
Build number - Gingerbread.xwkdd
Upon further reading it seems I haven't been booting into CWM recovery...please disregard and close this post
Good job finding the answer by reading
Just an FYI, rom manager wont work with most CWM kernels (only codeworxs), and you also cant flash CWM via rom manager (it just does a fake flash). (Go cf-root in cause you didn't work it out)
Get odin for pc
Flash the cf-root kernel (or whatever kernel you want that also includes Clockwork recovery)
Then enter recovery mode on your phone, and flash the villain rom zip file from within recovery.
--
You are getting verification errors because you dont have clockworkmod recovery - you have default 3e recovery)
Ditch rom manager and follow my steps above.
Read up and learn before flashing/installing anything.

I know mate - I meant no disrespect. Was just funny. I try very hard these days to make sure I've read everything before posting. There's been times where I've gone off on one only to find out that I'd totally got the wrong end of the stick through not reading!

Hi everyone.
i rooted my phone with this guide which installed a based CWM recovery on my phone with Siyah-s2-v6.0b4.tar using Odin.
Now i want to run a touch CWM recovery but no matter how i tried- no way worked and i always get the based CWM recovery again.
I tried ROM manager and RECOVERY tools but none of these actually worked (although i got success messages).
I also tried to download the recovery file from the official site of CWM, but when i tried to copy it to my sd card an error message popped out saying copy can't be done and the device is not connected or working or something.. i can copy other zip files without any problem.
can anyone help?
thanks.
1) Do not use Rom Manager with the SGS2. It will break recovery and/or cause bootloops eventually. It may even brick your phone. You don't need it.
2) Any recovery flashed independently of the kernel on the SGS2 will only persist until the next reboot, which is why what you're trying isn't working. If you want a touch version of CWM, flash/run a kernel which has this. Which kernels ? Read the kernel threads in the development section (I don't use PhilZ on my SGS2, but his comes to mind as I use it on my I9505).

thank you very much! i'm relieved i didn't brick my phone, that could have been a mess..
flashing kernels is like regular flashing? just installing the zip file? do i need to wipe any data or cache or something?
thanks for your response.
Follow the flashing instructions for the kernel in question to the letter (always on the first page of the kernel thread, always very clear/precise/easy to follow).

Guys I am using a Samsung galaxy s2 gt i9100 running jelly bean 4.1.2 stock xwlst firmware and i rooted my phone using the one click root using exploits. I am all new to this rooting process and so i installed titanium backup and i was trying to remove playstore inorder to install modded play store and all of a sudden my device rebooted and now its stuck with the boot screen. So i tried to flash canogenmod 10.2 for the first time and used clock work mod recovery. I wiped my memory cleared the cache(couldnt find dalvik cache and the advanced menu either) and applied the latest cyanogen mod 20130827 from the cyanogenmod.org using my external sdcard. It displayed assert failed )==gti9100t status 7 error. I can assure you that i downloaded the international version of the cyanogenmod and not any other variant. Kindly help me with a solution or a link to the correct cyanogenmod rom package. Thank you. Looking forward to an earlier response
1) This isn't urgent. We get people 'crying wolf' on here all the time. Having a thread title like this is a good way to have people ignore your thread.
2) Also, using a title like [URGENT] HELP please !!! is another good way to have people ignore your thread. If you want help, you need to use a descriptive thread title
3) Unless you use sentencing/paragraphing, your OP is impossible to read. I certainly didn't read past the first line & many other people here won't unless you fix it.

In recovery mode odin does not detect my phone but in boot screen, where the phone is stuck, it detects. So the flashing process failed stating couldnt open COM port.
What should i do to make my phone get detected in the recovery mode via odin? I had installed clock work mod recovery manually.
Thank you vry much.

Hello,
Just rooted i9300 following this procedure
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...wm5-5-t1695238
and here is says " istalled A custom CWM 5.5" o.k.
I decided to upgrade the CWM to latest version but always ends with error. Tried also with rom manager just to update ClockworkMod Recovery to 6.0.5.0 but also without success.
Please be so kind and direct me to right path.
Do I even have to bother with this if i want to instal latest stable 4.x Cyanogen mod ? ( what instructions to follow to accomplish this goal.)
Thank you for your time
Aaex
You need latest recovery to flash anything. Use Odin to flash philz recovery, follow the instructions exactly.

And
Maybe , ( my opinion only) not everyone is capable of understanding and following extremely fast development and changes in the Android world, ...no matter how well some things are covered.
pls let me add for our future guests a nice guide how to for i9300 about this topic
