I'm curious as well. Could one use Mobile Odin Pro to flash this and retain Root? For international users, they could. They did, however, have to flash just the Kitkat bootloader with desktop Odin right after flashing with Mobile Odin to have the phone boot up.
@freeza Is there a tar, OEM or engineering, just for the bootloader available?

Sure is. I posted it up a short while ago in this forum.
Just need to make sure this won't trip KNOX. I had to replace my phone already and don't want to run into the headache I received for tripping Knox.
Will we be able to flash a kit kat rom after Like cyanogen if we flash this

So if I'm on MJ4 I can flash this tar in Odin. Then flash TWRP in Odin. Then enter recovery and flash SU zip and I'll be rooted?
Can you provide a link to the proper SU zip please

CF-Autoroot again.
Odin TWRP
Wipe
Flash freeza's Deodexed Stock ROM
Flash MI5 Firmware
Wipe
Flash JellyBomb
... this is what I would do.

I heard twrp was not always safe to use is this true
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
Safer than CWM at the moment.
Don't restore backups yet. If you dont know what you are doing follow instructions.
You can easily brick your phone while in recovery. Be aware of that. Be careful.

The only way we have been able to update is to flash stock in Odin and update and then re root etc ....
The new update had a bootloader that doesn't allow you to downgrade so can't use the older tar files in Odin after you update

Thanks. Don't I need a specific file to flash in Odin to get my S4 back to stock?
You should flash only the file version. Of the software you started on before rooting/roming etc

I found a one-click MDK stock restore (an .exe file). Would that be a good one to use?

You may want to root or use airplane mode after you odin. A mdk will bring a few more dollars than the update you are about to get.

Not sure if you still need it, but go here https://dl.twrp.me/hltespr/ and download the .tar file and then flash through Odin.
Or use twrp manager from the play store to install it.

This is the method I have used successfully more than once. Hope this helps.
As the title says, I just received my phone from swaapa. after my s4 mdk version broke. The phone is rooted and it's running 5.0.1 I'm not familiar with this version. So for safety measures can some one link the restore file you would use to restore it back to stock (the one used in odin).

There is no way to put the phone back to MDK. However, the info in this thread will give you some guidance on downgrading to KitKat and keeping root, among other things. 5.0.1 isn't bad. I'm running stang5litre's debloated 5.0.1. I bought my SGS4 from Swappa, as well. It was not MDK, either, so I'm limited to what ROM's I can run. Hope this helps.
Is it AOSP or touch wiz? If its aosp it's likely to have an mdk bootloader. Can you give us a screenshot of your "About Phone" in settings?

Don't flash a stock ROM in Odin. If you do that you will loose the MDK bootloader forever. You're a lucky person, you can flash whatever you like right now, whether it is a TouchWiz or AOSP. If you loose the MDK bootloader you loose the ability to bootloader bypass exploit.

Yes, or you could just update TWRP to the latest version and try a 5.1.1 CM based ROM. I recommend Exodus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3135866
