Hello, I have used the Z Ultra for about 4 months now. But recently, I somehow managed to shatter the display. As the phone was under accidental cover, I gave it to the service center people and got a new piece in return, which was already updated to 14.2.A.1.136.
Now, I was using the GPE ROM before, and would like to go back to it. But firstly, I would have to back up the TA Partition and unlock. But I checked the threads and all TA Backup methods need root. And I didn't find the method to root locked device on .136 anywhere on this thread. And in no way am I going to unlock before backing TA.
So can anybody please throw some light on my situation. Apologies if such a question has already been asked, I couldn't find any.
Help appreciated.

Thank you for the article!
Unfortunately, the OP's steps are a little complicated.
Would you mind to elucidate it a little for me?
:fingers-crossed:
EDIT: I got the rest of it. Just what does this mean?
Get a rooted .290 install then continue from below "Upgrading from .290 already rooted Locked BL"
To get root on .290 follow below or [NUT]'s/jackie's stock .290 for locked BL

Someone should re-write that mess
If you want to run a custom ROM (GPe etc) then you have to unlock the BL after rooting and backing the TA up. So:
Downgrade to .532 using [NUT]'s FTF - see my downgrade thread
Root using Bin4ry's root tool - see LordManhatton's thread for all thees next steps
Back up TA
Unlock BL
Flash latest firmware
Flash dual recovery (I use jackie's one)
Flassh ROM as needed or SuperSu is staying on Stock

ok i've a few querstions?
1. Are you rooted? ( Perhaps yes? )
2. Have ever installed custom ROM or on stock ROM?
CMW or clock work mod recovery is a tool which enables you to install roms and apps and much more at the boot time..
if you haven't perform backup and installed cmw then only thing left would be to flash cmw and reset factory.. or you can flash official stock ics firmware ( download here ) via flash tool.... you didn't understand fully, right? yeah its common among newbies... reply me and i'll tell you what to do next,,,
now i understand...
ok, i'll try to flash

Just search for the ftf of your land on google and flash it with flashtool.
Or try restoring origianl software using pc comapnion or sony ericsson update service...#
BTW: Did you unlock bootloader? Cause then your warranty is void, and to flash firmware using flashtool bootloader unlock isn't necessary!

You can accomplish this under any ROM as long as you have the Xposed framework installed. Search for the module "20MP SuperiorAuto", install and enable it and then reboot.

I just posted in this thread. the 20mp auto (enabled through the xposed mod) is not better quality than the 20mp manual.

If you want the 20mp, set it to manual, centre weighted exposure. Auto white balance is pretty good for most situations.
If you just rooted the phone and haven't jumped to a non-stock ROM, then there's a small laundry list I did:
-Install F-Droid and Adaway
-Install Xposed framework
-Install Greenify
-Install Titanium Backup
-Use Titanium Backup to backup and uninstall bloat system apps (like "What's New")
Root opens up a lot more freedom for the phone. Xposed in particular is fantastic for changing just about anything.
Newbies should know, you don't need to unlock your bootloader to have fun. Root and try the xposed mods.

Yep it's unlocking the bootloader that voids your warranty, and unless you wish to install a custom kernel based rom is unnecessary.
One of the reasons I used to root ( not anymore, I'm kinda bored) was to install Dsploit and wifikill to have some fun with unsecured WiFi networks.
Add adblock, titanium backup. Bloat freeze (Sony phones have the least).
Have some themes.

Beyond that I hope you enjoy your new Z2!

Of course you can, root access just allow you to install mod or edit system files. There are no conflict between unlocked bootloader and root access

You need the unlock code from Sony.
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/
Use the blu (bootloader unlock) function from flashtool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Edit....it wipes everything so back up what you want to save, and a nandroid made before unlocking will relock. Use an app like titanium backup or mybackup pro.

Dear experts, I bought this phone recently and it came with 5.0.2, 14.5.A.0.270. I have rooted my phone and flashed dual recovery and have TA backup. bootloader is locked.
I want to flash 4.4.4 as I don't like lollipop. Can I just flash C6802_14.2.A.0.290_Customised IN.ftf.
Please help. Thanks.

READ THIS: BACKUP INTERNAL STORAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER. REMOVE EXTERNAL SD CARD!!!
ALL STORAGE WILL BE WIPED!
I have done this a very long time ago, many times. Bare with me...I might not remember everything.
Follow this
Downgrade path 1 (very easy):
Download needed files
Download C6833_14.1.B.1.532_NUT.ftf
Flashing using flashtool
Flash EVERYTHING in the above ftf by @[NUT]
Reboot
Flash EVERYTHING in this ftf, (use the defaults) it will do the downgrade below so you will end up on .532 with a working IMEI ready to root with bin4ry's tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devd...ct/dl/?id=3442
You will end up with a device that thinks it is a C6833 but when you flash 4.3 or newer (.290 or .136) just use the one for your real model and the model number will be restored.

When the above is done choose a kitkat stock .ftf rom to flash. Choose an .ftf file to flash that matches your model: C6802,C6806, C6833, C6843, or SOL24.

I do not know which stock firmware is based on what android version. You have to look this up yourself.
I never used stock roms more than a month or so when first I bought my device. This was two years ago.
I will take a guess that 14.4.A.0.108 will be your choice of stock rom which is based on 4.4.4.
I do not know if there are any more recent stock roms that is based on kitkat or if they jumped to lollipop after this.
Notice: .118 is only a special release from carrier like vodaphone and some french carrier. So no need to download this firmware.
Thank you very much sir. I shall follow the links and your detailed tutorial and post back the results.

Rollback to 4.4
Hello,
I did the rollback yesterday as I couldn't bear Lollipop's bugs, slowdowns and so on...
All you have to do is to find a 14.4.A.0.108 firmware using XperiFirm which is included in Flashtool.

Or download the one you need here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453921
"Generic" firmwares are the ones to use if you have an unbranded phone (that is to say, not sold by a carrier).
Then you can follow this tutorial almost to the letter here: http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...xperia-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool

Indeed, both were separated before, but then one of the devs thought it would be more convenient to get the two programs together in Flashtool.
Moreover, you don't need to create the FTF file yourself when you download through the XperiFirm included in Flashtool, Flashtool does it automatically if I remember well, avoiding the hassle to delete the "fwinfo" file that corrupts the FTF file when you create it on your own.

You need to pull the Kingroot SU. Get terminal emulator and a batch file. Kingroot to SU. File ES to extract the zip. Google is your friend.
