I've played with several roms, shiftsense, liquidsense (several versions)..
Most of these roms all have different cameras. I'm curious if its possible to install "just the camera app" and have particular versions.
I'm looking for the one that allows you to make panoramic shots, built in. I know there are apps in the market that do this, but they suck in comparison to the one thats come with different versions of roms, built in.
I'm currently running liquid smooth v3.2, its got what appears to be the camera from android 1.0, from 5 years ago.
Skyraider 1.3 has panorama built in and coming from liquid myself I have to say that the change isn't so bad. Deep customization is still there and battery life on Imo's 5.1.0 is amazing.

Android didn't exist 5 years ago. The first commercially available phone to run Android was the HTC Dream (AKA G1), released on 22 October 2008.
Android was around before the G1 technically...but that's another story. Anyway, I use the MIUI camera on my Thunderolt running CM7, with the stock camera as a backup since the particular MIUI camera I have installed doesn't support the front camera. The only problem is if you use both cameras, after switching back your pictures will look screwed up when taken, though they look normal when you actually view them later. I should update mine now that I think about it...

This might be a terrible question but is it at all possible to install a sense based camera on an aosp rom? I love aosp but hate the camera with a passion.

No, you need to have Sense to use a Sense camera. Kind of sucks, the Sense camera is *****in'.
So I have been tempted to flash CM10 for a long time but stock features like Multiwindow and Camera app by Samsung keep me from it.
So i wanted to ask if the quality if the pictures in CM10 was as good as stock S3 Camera app? And I saw there are bugs in cam such as touch 2 focus issues with enabled flashlight and recording effects broken. TV Out issue is also a con..
So is it worth using CM10? Why do you use it. I know some people love vanila android but other than that anything else?
Oh and which one do you prefer, 4.2 or 4.1, I assume both builds are stable enough for everyday use.
CM camera is worse

worse in what sense? app is bad or picture quality sucks?
both
Guess I wont be flashing CM10.. why do people use it?
because they like its features and the AOSP look as well as the lack of bloat
Yeap, the camera in CM10 and 10.1 is worse.
But I still use it because I like the stock Android look. Next time I'll just buy a Nexus..

Hello. Recently I flashed PA ROM,I like it very much.I've been using stock ROMS forever but I got bored and wanted to try something new.My biggest criteria is the camera app, what I've heard that TW has much better quality video and photo compared to AOSP camera.I want to ask your opinions on this, maybe there's a camera app in the Play Store which is better than AOSP one. It's the one thing that keeps me away from AOSP ROMS.Maybe you have some ideas, share.
Since I bought my SGS2, I flashed custom roms specially AOKP.
I didn't feel any difference at all but the last time I was on stock rom, it was gingerbread. So many things changed since then.
You must try it yourself but I'm pretty sure there is no much difference for our phone!:good:

Try Camera Zoom FX app. Its good.
Or you can try Chameleon ROM. :good:
A long time ago when I still had this phone, camera quality sucked when using non-Samsung based custom ROMs. Has this been changed now? If it has, I'm gonna update my mom's SGS2 to a new ROM in order to take advantage of Android 4.3 and all its features and glory.

Ain't nobody got time for that!
But I'm serious... Has it improved? I remember it was pretty bad back then because the source code was never released, so developers were reverse engineering the camera.
bump
There is definetly a difference between sammy / non sammy roms, especially when you take low light pictures or when you use flash.
Samsung Camera Quality is the best! It's the clearest!
I'll have to agree. I actually feel a loss of quality (may be placebo) when using non Samsung roms.
The camera of the S2 is excellent, it still awes me.
Hey guys, I was wondering, how do you compare stock camera vs camera on AOPS (eg: cyanogemmod).
People say that it is way better on stock roms, why? I have a question, if it is better is it only because of the camera APP? So that flashing stock camera app on cyanogem or just using camera zoom fx would take AOSP to Stock level?
thx

No. The problem is with the drivers as far as I understand. The camera in AOSP will never be as good as stock. You can not interchange the camera apps between AOSP ans Samsung base due to different frameworks. You can use 3rd party camera apps for more functionality but it will not solve the basic camera bugs...or picture quality.

I like clean interface of aosp, but samsung camera
Much more better

As mentioned previously, the stock camera app will always be better.
Its on you whether you bare with tw but a better camera or go aosp
Yes, stock camera is better... Does that mean AOSP camera is crap? Absolutely not!
AOSP camera suits the needs of the causal shooter pretty well... If you need something more professional you shouldn't be using a phone camera anyway.
TW camera was what kept me from switching to AOSP for a long time, so I decided to make a few tests with a friend, we took the same pics (him with AOSP and me with TW) and compared the results (unfortunately i can't post those comparison pics as i don't have them anymore).
We couldn't find any big differences, and the few we found weren't that important for me.
3rd party apps can produce nice results also, my current camera of choice is A Better Camera, the interface is a bit outdated but I am happy with the quality and features. AOSP is so much better than TW in so many ways that it compensates for the "lesser" quality in the pics.
But don't let me or anyone else tell you what to use, try it for yourself.
As jmvelazquezr, I did the same test a few days ago and the difference is minimal.
The main problem with AOSP camera right now, is that it's buggy (problems with flash and focus). Video recording seems to offer lower quality too, specially the sound.
