[Q] 4.2 and higher Apps on 4.1.2 build - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've previously had success in getting 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 apps working on a 4.1.2 rom, but now I am working on building from source I was wondering how this was done. I have the correct sdk files, and the source syncs but the build comes fails. Has anyone done this before? Am I asking the impossible?
Any help much appreciated, I am new to this all, and so far only managed to port CM10, now working on Slim3.1 before looking up the food chain.

Yes, you are trying to call for SDKs and APIs that aren't there.

[Q] Can I Edit AOSP ROMs (Cm10.1) in Android Kitchen?

I am wanting to edit CM10.1 ROMs (4.2.2) in my android kitchen. I would source build but computer restrictions will not let me do so. I have very good knowledge with ROM building (Stock only). I just want to make sure that I can set working folder from CM10.1 then edit what i need to then build and flash. I Own the Galaxy Note 2 for T-mobile if that helps any. Also if its possible please list any cautions or steps that i may need to know.
Thanks so much guys!

[Q] Extracting proprietary blobs from existing ROMS

Hi
Short and sweet, I am busy getting into ROM development, and as exercise to get a better grasp on what is going on, I mostly dabbled with AOSP until yesterday. I am in the process of porting Cyanogenmod 10.2 to Galaxy S2 (i9100).
While going through the CM instructions, there was a segment on how to extract "proprietary blobs" from CM running on the device in question. This is required as part of the build for hardware specific reasons they did not give too much details about.
I just have one query. Has anyone tried to, or know if it is possible to do this blob extraction from ROMs other than CyanogenMod?
That's all folks.

[Q] 4.4 Apps in a 4.1.2 build

Hi all,
I am looking to find a way to build from repository the latest camera/gallery combo and email/calendar from 4.4 in a CM10 (4.1.2) build process. I get the error that I am building a version of Android too low to use these resources. I have the default set in the repo manifest, and a build version in my cm.mk file. I have tried to a simply chang the fingerprint to 4.4.2 and then adjusting the build number. I also changed the repo version to sync with but it still wants to build 4.1.2
I keep getting into trouble with different local settings in jni files etc. Has anyone managed to do this successfully or is it always a case of cross your fingers and copy the apk in after the build. Ideally I would want to avoid this as I want to make it rather than mka and get a nice ODEXed set out.
Any help very much appreciated
The reason why nobody else is doing this is because it's really improbable you get this working.
For this to work you have to port most of the stuff that makes 4.4 version 4.4 back to your CM10.
It would be way easier to compile 4.4 and change the undesired apps back to CM10 apps. Because 4.4 does have the API and features that CM10 does, just not the other way around.

"Upgrade" stock 4.1.2 ROM to 4.4.2, possible?

Hi guys,
I just wanted to know if it was possible to upgrade a ROM (for the Huawei Ascend P2) from version 4.1.2 to either 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 or something similar.
As you may know no one has developed any custom ROMs for this phone and at the moment we have nothing more than a P6 ROM running on the P2 (which excludes functionality of getting signal, speaker audio, headphone audio and lacks the functionality of the actual buttons on the phone, the ones below the screen)
If this was possible could someone give me some pointers on how to do it? All I need is like a reference guide or tutorial.. I don't mind doing the work myself as I want to get into android development. I consider this my 1st project.
Thank you.
bump
Most likely Huawei never put out the source code for it meaning unless there is a sister phone to it you can port from then not much else to do.

Build stock apps

Hey,
I'm trying to build the google stock apps(https://android.googlesource.com/platform/packages/)
Each and every one of them fails to build for some reasons.
Is there anything that I need besides android studio to compile it?
Thanks
