So, as soon as I got my phone I installed a full body zagg. Also, I use the Moto car dock every time I get in my truck. Well, as my luck would have it, I pulled my phone out one day and the insert that you use if you don't have a case on was pull out by my zagg. This wouldn't be a big deal, but I swear to God it just went poof and disappeared.
Long story short, now my phone seems to be having a charging issue both in the dock and with just a cable. When in the dock, sometimes, it say that it is plugged in and then unplugged almost endlessly. When I plug in a regular cable it works fine unless it is in certain positions.
So, now to my question, what are the odds that the absence of that spacer has caused my usb jack to break because of the lack of support? Could I clean my phone up enough to get a warranty replacement? Phone is unlocked was running Alien 3, trying CM7 now, and is on At&t.

i bet that is your problem. i know when my phone gets hot it also says it gets unplugged and replugged a lot, so something there may be happening,
if you can flash a fuitcake that should be everything you need to do before sending it back

This issue is really odd. I have noticed since my OP that it seems to not have the issue if I place the phone in the dock before I start my vehicle (before the dock has power). This makes me think that it may not be hardware, but I'm still not sure.
Anyone know of anyway I could test this theory?
My girlfriend's Note started acting weird. When she plugs in the charger it randomly stops and starts, sometimes for periods of seconds, sometimes minutes. We checked every combination of cord and charger (AC and car), and they all do the same. We both cleaned out the charger port, but that didn't have any effect. As a matter of fact, just sitting there motionless on the table it will still randomly start and stop charging.
I also noticed that the battery level seems to be off. At one point it was down to maybe 20% (in the yellow). I rebooted and it was up to 30 (in the green). I don't have any real numbers, it was only something I noticed. It's not rooted so I couldn't clear out the battery stats. Instead I drained it down to 0%, charged it all the way to full while it was off. It seemed to help for a day, but the problem came back later.
Could it be battery? Or phone? She has at&t insurance on it, and we're going to run to the (official) store. I just don't know if they send it back or replace it. She can't really be without a phone, so I'm hoping it's the battery (unless they want to replace the phone on the spot).
All we know is you have an at&t phone. What have you done to it?

Hi there everyone, i'm having the exact the same problem and my galaxy note is acting just like that- weird !!
About two months ago I updated to ICS and after that no issues, only once did it not charge as it was supposed to until i turned it off, removed the battery and put it back in.
Only now has it been charging like explained above -- the charging process as well as battery indications would be very inconsistent -- that is to say, it would charge for some time and then stop unexpectedly, whether turned on or off during the process.
Also, recently my PC would not recognize the phone on Windows 7 anymore, whereas before that it had been recognized seamlessly.
I've been using my galaxy note for about 8 months now, as well as about 2 months on ICS, and only now has there been this persistent issue.
Also, I did not use it inappropriately, rather with extreme care. I also got a phone case and have been using orginal software and hardware only, so the phone has been properly handled.
However, I have been using it pretty much, so it might be "wear and tear" in terms of battery usage, even more so, because it's been regularly charging and discharging in the car or at home, at the same time. Still, what surprises me is that my PC would not recognize it anymore even when it's turned on. Then, at times it would also go to "car mode", although it is not connected to the car dock. These issues have come up just now, as well, so i can imagine it might be a software or even port-related issue.
Unfortunately, at this moment I cannot take it to the store i bought it from to have them check the phone, so that's why I'm trying to figure out the problem myself. After all, if it's software or battery-related i might be able to fix it without having it replaced.
The phone is not branded and free to use with any carrier.

I had this exact same problem a couple weeks ago...it all started one day at work when I had my phone plugged in (as I usually did if it was in one place for more than 5 minutes), but after turning on my screen for the the first time in an hour or so, I noticed that it hadn't charged at all! The indicator at the top didn't even show that it was plugged in.
Figuring it was just some kind of little glitch, I unplugged it, blew inside the charge port as well as the cable (old Nintendo habits die hard lol). Well as I went to plug it back in, I realized that NOW the indicator showed it was "charging", and my phone had gotten super hot in just the 30ish seconds it took me to blow the port and cable (heh.)
So obviously I freaked out and immediately shut it down, pulled the back, and removed the battery to let the two pieces calm down and make nice - before ultimately putting it back together and booting up after 15 minutes or so.
So the good news was that the "reverse charge" issue was gone...but the bad news was, the charge activity started acting literally word-for-word like your girlfriend's. Intermittent charging when it was sitting still, not charging at all for a period of time, losing more battery than it was gaining while it was plugged in and the screen was OFF...so yeah, it sucked. I did notice that I could push the cord back while it was plugged in and it would stay charging, but obviously I can't sit in one spot holding my phone for 5 hours a day - and that stopped working after a few tries anyway.
I spent countless hours on the internet, googling different phrases to try and find similar instances of this happening - but to no avail. Everyone's story was just a little different...and pretty much everything I found outside of XDA* was written by people over in England who dropped their N7000 in the snow, causing the charge port to be corroded. The conclusion from everything else I found regarding this issue for the i717 was essentially always "the only way you can fix this is to get a new phone, but you're screwed because this glitch causes the phone to look like it has water damage and therefore renders it ineligible for manufacturer warranty claim or even insurance claims".
To make matters worse, not only was my phone effectively unchargeable, but it was discharging at an absolutely absurd rate. I'm talking approximately 20% every TEN MINUTES!
So I got desperate (it's Sunday by now)...all of the cell phone repair places were closed where I live, but I was able to do some searching and found this guy that was surprisingly available at the AT&T store closest to my house. That kept me alive until Monday, when I was able to take it in to the guy who I've been going to ever since the iPhone days (he is FANTASTIC). So he looks at it, takes it apart, and in about 5 minutes he tells me that the small little strip where my charge port attaches to the mother board (or whatever) had a lot of cracks running across it that were causing it to short-out. He said that it's a very common problem with the AT&T Galaxy Note, I guess due to them using a pretty cheap part in that regard. This obviously explained the intermittent charging, the brief "reverse charge", and even the battery drain (if the motherboard was shorting out).
So what did he do?
Replaced the little strip that connects the charge port to the motherboard...took him half an hour...cost me $25. Advised me that, when I plug my phone in from now on, to try as hard as possible to keep the phone still and not move it around. So at least in my case, it was NOT the battery. If you'd rather be cautious and not take the phone into a store if you can avoid it, you can probably get a replacement battery online for just a few bucks and at least eliminate that.
So the moral of the story is: DO NOT try to take the phone in to AT&T store or deal with your warranty/insurance until you take it in to a decent repair place and have them take a look at it.
Hopefully this helps...I'm sure you are wanting (like I was) a software solution, but it is what it is. And just curious, did your girlfriend have any similar "reverse-charge" instances like I described above?
tl;dr: The problem is the charging port, not the battery. Should be an easy and inexpensive (<$50) fix at a legitimate cell phone repair location.
*The silver lining in this whole thing was that it caused me to stumble upon this forum...so I went from stock ROM, stock everything (before my charge port issue) to having flashed about one ROM per day over the last 5 days because I've been so interested in the entire world of customization that I only discovered after seeing a thread with "Gubment Cheeze" in the title (who WOULDN'T at least look at that to see what's up??) here on XDA and starting to read. I read the last post by cpa poke and I must say it's quite risky to actually have a phone repaired by an unlicensed dealer/repair shop, because you'll cause any warranty left on the item to be effectively void.
I do know it is tempting for any of us to get our phone fixed as soon as possible, but then I think we should keep it cool and try to work out what else we can to do to make it work -- even though it might be temporarily -- until we can return it properly, as according to warranty indications.
Any of you trying to get a "repair fix" might want to consider that it may well be rather short-lived, because the same problem could persist for some reason -- that your repair shop did not recognize. If ultimately you have to get it repaired again, your ("fantastic") repair guy might then not be able to solve the problem and at that point any warranty claim would be quite certainly rejected, either (because of any previous unauthorized modifications to the device).
As far as I'm concerned, I have been testing my device with different chargers, currently it's charging consistently while turned off.
Also, I don't think I have had any of the "battery drainage" problem while charging, rather the battery indications were rather unreliable.
Then, I have read the problem could be solved by changing the battery. So I'll see if that makes a difference as soon as I get a replacement.
Another option will be to factory reset the item. I'll try that as soon as I get a backup of my phone data.
To all of you who are stuck with this issue I suggest you try some of the above: different chargers, removing and reinserting your battery, or else a battery replacement, factory reset.

While I agree that taking it to a repair place should only be reserved for desperate/time sensitive situations, the only reason I chose that route over going through AT&T or an insurance company was that, from everything I'd read, the symptoms alone would likely cause them to assume water damage - thus rendering the same scenario as if the 3rd party repair voided the warranty.
Im having the same problem with myGalaxy S3 today, random intermittent charging..
I Just took off the back cover a few minutes ago and found a little glob of water sitting above the charging port!! Aaah!!
Don't know how it got there, but going to let her dry out and see if it resolves itself.

Is it me, or is this a retardly common issue with i717s? I've had this same issue twice. I replaced the charger flex board when I bought the phone in the first place. And now it hasn't been a month and the flex board seems like it's out again.
My phone had this issue and all I did was oder the charging port from parts4repair.com and it cleared the issue up

Agreed .....and another thought comes to mind..
Non-OEM charger tips, especially car dock chargers and desk chargers have port tips using different material thicknesses.
I am speculating here, but it's likely that the off sizing would produce intermittent charging problems or damage to the device.
Of course, the overcharging effect would certainly account for rapid flex cable burnouts.
Without the cables and a micrometer, impossible to know for sure.

I didn't know this was anything more than a myth. Though, I'm not sure this is my problem. I can charge the phone - for now - by putting the phone on my bedside table and putting a small weight along the length of the cable so it holds the jack at an angle against the port.
I know I'm gonna get flamed for that last statement.
So my phone died.
Not by flashing. Not by rooting. Not by anything. I plugged it in on thursday with about 3% battery remaining, and next thing I know I am late for class because the phone died in middle of the night sometime. I was running a CM10.1 nightly. It was buttery smooth and honestly felt better for the phone than sense did. So I had no quarrel.
Now it wont boot, no LED, no capacitive buttons, no adb, no recognition, no nothing. I assume myself as a veteran of android and its capabilities (including how incredibly difficult one actually is to brick) and I have never seen something like this.
If your phone has done this, say so.
I want to hear stories and isolate the incident. If you have any ideas, share them.
Im a little ticked because I really liked this phone and its a ****ty way to have it go.
Stab in the dark but could it possibly be dead and your charger didn't charge it. Never heard of a situation like this and I've done some strange things to my phones. Possible or battery is so dead is why u can't power up. Try a different charger on it for a couple hours and try again.
Edit, when u have it plugged in to a charger does the led glow red ?

Cable does not equal charger.
You can't count on an aftermarket charger or cable either. I've seen strange things with stuff that didn't come with the phone.

I actually had the same thing happen to my Galaxy Note I. It just died completely one day when it was sitting on my desk with no previous issues. But it was already year old by that time.
I hope it works out. Since it's a new phone, at least you've got the warranty.
other people have posted about this issue in the international thread. but as far as i know after letting it charge a while they all came back on and they all said no charging light when plugged in

Hi, I have a problem with my T399n.
My phone doesn't turn on, I installed CM12 and it was good, then I flashed the stock ROM from metro again, everything was good about a month, one day I made a call, whatsapp, text and then I put it in my pocket, then when I pulled it out like 10 minutes later and it was rebooting, I didn't pay attention to this because sometimes my phone reboots itself, later It was power off. I pulled the battery, reinserted it and nothing, connected usb cable, nothing, tried to charge it and nothing, Its like my phone died. Looking for a fix, there is the usb jig that work with others galaxy's.
So I just want to know if I'm fried or if there's a last hope to revive this phone with the usb jig

just today...
just today, not 2 hours ago at most I was playing around with my galaxy light, deciced to root and mod it.. first step was to, ofc flash a custom recovery... well like most things I pursue I ended up fighting the damn thing for HOURS!! could not get it to register on my computer for the life of me.. now I'm far from a dev and probably one of the least experienced on/around here but something so trivial as lack of drivers, udev, faulty port/cords isn't my forte.. so eventually I whipped out my handy dandy usb jig and .... nothing... *head scratch* hmmm.... now its got my attention... so I get out the multimeter usb data/charging cable and it does show signs of life, easily registering 5.1v / 0.4 mah ... now I'm getting anxious.... so its time for the next test... usb-otg connected to dbl usb-type-A converter to connect to the pooter (it never works but I wish it would ) and nothing there... so otg to my main mobile, reverse it... hmmm seems this lil guy is taking in charge and no data xfer of any kind... since id already rotated various cables I turned my attention to the charging port.. under 6x magnification and too many lumens light I could hardly see any problems but persisted with the 99% isopropyl anyhow... end result "wtf is wrong with this garbage....?) and just as I went to throw it at the wall I spotted my personal "boneyard" where all of my former problematic/faulty devices end up and just in sight was another tmobile galaxy light, broken lcd but logic board intact.. so a quick flip of the wrist and a smack on the back and the 2 became one... fired her up, plugged it in and BAM.. instantly detected... and for some reason I cant quite seem to put my finger on, I had the urge to power it back off and insert my usb jig one final time to see if it infact would work with the galaxy light.... *device in left hand... jib in the right.... bead of sweat steadily sliding down my ruffled brow... time seemed to all but come to a screeching halt as the two came closer until the moment of trust had arrived... the initial contact, the penetration (lol) .. the pause... BOOM factory mode*
so, now that u read that half illiterate rambling from a barely educated redneck shut-in to determine if the usb jig works with galaxy light or not .. the answer is yes... it does unless its a piece of crap like one of the 2 I own is...

It does in fact work. If asking about the USB mount, from my knowledge you would've had to already installed them by turning the function on like I did in the first screen shot.
If you need them I can link them to my drive or mega. Whichever is best. Think I have drop box still too.
And yes. I have bricked this phone I'm using now for a solid 3 days when I first started with it. However cm12 has bugs, after the second time it rebooted and bricked on me I went back to Tigerlily I even had no SIM error but somehow fixed that when flashed back to stock. Cm12 caused me to flash back to stock about 3 times a day. Too much headache. Guess thats why we are not supposed to do this to our primary phones. on tigerlily ive Had a little trouble keeping super su in his place too, Got home last night and POOF, just gone for no known reason. finally got him to stick by installing him into the system with lucky patcher. Flashify, flashfire, and even rom installer all failed to keep him there. . I have also stripped down almost every file just for fun to see what other fine items I could damage, Finally found where they hide the dialer codes for the phone. They are not in any files that i have spent the last for years looking in. The codes are inside of the APK. The last place I decided to look. Everything I know is self taught and just recently started working with apps for windows 10 and merging android files into windows apps.
Now , I'm actually quite impressed with it's capabilities .
Really what's helped me dial everything in was the helped of an app called Mixplorer with all the ad-on's all of which are free.
Good luck with your brick. Myself, I have 3 other phones I'm currently working on unbricking. One of which is a hard bricked LG motion. Flashed th err wrong firmware to it a year ago. Just this week got the cup to recognize it. the code to get into the first service menu pictured here on the bottom left is *#0808#

when youre ready to really see whats going on you can dial *#9900# for all the System Dump features.
I bought my Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4" android tablet back in 2019. It has given me almost no issues other than it started to slow down recently.
Before a trip I took, I fully charged it, powered it off, and put it in my bag. This was on a Thursday. A few days later on Sunday I went to use it and it would not power on. Plugging it into multiple known good chargers does nothing. It is showing zero signs of life (no vibration, no screen power). There is zero physical damage that I can see - no bends or cracks or anything. And the USB-C port still feels solid.
I've tried...
Holding the power button for 15-20+ seconds.
Holding the power button and volume down for 15-20+ seconds.
Holding the power button and volume up for 15-20+ seconds.
Holding the power button and volume up+down for 15-20+ seconds.
Tried charging it with multiple known good chargers.
Tried leaving it plugged into known good chargers for hours.
Tried the button combos above while plugged in.
Tried wiggling the power button, volume rocker, and the physical "home" "button" in case they were stuck and causing issues...
Even tried flipping the USB-C cable...
Tried adding some very light pressure to the power cable (like up/down/left/right) to see if it would give me a sign that the charging port was loose.
Have tried googling it, a lot, but seems like no one else has run into this issue.
I've tried all of the above many many times, on different days just hoping for any signs of life and got nothing.
Anyone else run into this and figure out what the issue is?

First off hats off to you for posting the perfect model of how to troubleshoot and then post your experience!
Sad to say I don't have / haven't had this issue. But I do want to ask obvious questions (at the pain of seeming obtuse) and propose one more (probably futile) step and one possibly fruitful.
Questions:
- You've wisely tried swapping chargers. Have you tried multiple cables? (I bet you did.) And did you try both USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C cables?
- Can I safely assume that when you call a charger a known good one have you used the same cable and charger combo with a different Android device (such as a USB-C equipped phone) to attempt charging the tablet?
- Do you feel as though the power button is actually moving when you press it?
Suggestions:
Try using a toothpick immersed in rubbing alcohol and gently probe around the USB connector. (Maybe there's some dust or crud blocking the contacts.)
This seems dopey but how long have you plugged in using a known good charger? I have succeeded with a hoplelessly old Samsung S3 and Nexus 7 tablet by leaving them charging for 24 hours.
In each case I walked away from the seemingly defunct device with a sense of resignation and disgust. Boy was I surprised to see that they were alive again! In those cases the devices had weak batteries and it took massive charging to get them to boot again-- and the battery life was poor once they actually booted. (My Nexus 7 is on my desk here begging to be put out of it's misery. It has a replacement screen, so it's been through rough times.)
FYI:
You mention that the tablet was gradually slowing down. If you ultimately succeed in breathing life back into it: have you periodically cleared the cache partition by booting into recovery. (I have to bet you did 'cause you have tested with the volume up + power key combination in troubleshooting.)

I have also had mine since 2019. I have not noticed any significant degradation of battery life or unusual decline in performance. Periodic cache clearing has helped me. (And I think that silly defrag notication is probably an act of superstition. But I do let it function anyhow.)
Even if nothing I've said turns your day into sunshine, I hope at least it's reassuring that you're not screaming into the dark alone. Feel free to ask for more ideas if you have any more evidence to work with.

- You've wisely tried swapping chargers. Have you tried multiple cables? (I bet you did.) And did you try both USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C cables?
- Can I safely assume that when you call a charger a known good one have you used the same cable and charger combo with a different Android device (such as a USB-C equipped phone) to attempt charging the tablet?

Yeah, tried different cables and power adapters and wall outlets. All are known to be good by plugging my phone in and getting it to charge. I did not try a USB-C to USB-C - I actually don't think I own one, hah. If I come across one I'll give it a try and update if that fixes it. Kinda tempted to go find one - maybe the extra juice will give it the extra kick it needs?? I've seen weirder things...

Yes. All of the buttons still have that tactile/responsive/click feel when pushing it in.
Try using a toothpick immersed in rubbing alcohol and gently probe around the USB connector. (Maybe there's some dust or crud blocking the contacts.)

Good idea! Will give this a try but currently out of rubbing alcohol. I did try (and forgot to list even tho I did this whilst making the list) using some compressed air around the buttons and around the charging port (making sure to keep the can up-right so I'm not freezing anything)
This seems dopey but how long have you plugged in using a known good charger? I have succeeded with a hoplelessly old Samsung S3 and Nexus 7 tablet by leaving them charging for 24 hours.

I didn't leave it plugged in overnight since the tablet isn't functioning properly and don't want to leave it charging whilst I'm sleeping in case it shorts or whatever. But I did have it on the charger, multiple times, for 2-6(?) hours at a time. It is plugged in now.
You mention that the tablet was gradually slowing down. If you ultimately succeed in breathing life back into it: have you periodically cleared the cache partition by booting into recovery. (I have to bet you did 'cause you have tested with the volume up + power key combination in troubleshooting.)

I have not cleared the cache partition via recovery. IF I get this thing alive again, will give it a try. I only mentioned it to highlight how little issues I've had and how completely out of the blue this no power issue is.

I can report to have had the exact same issue with my Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4", battery went empty when the device was in the bag over a weekend, and I have not been successful in recharging or starting the device with any of the trouble shooting given in the above messages. The USB-C connector on the device doesn't feel any looser than on any other USB-C device that I own, and all the other devices recharge from all of the charger + cable -combinations that I've tried on this device.
Same device, same problem. Have tried all the above with no joy. Wondering if the battery has gone into deep drain so currently trying 4.2v @ 600mah 'trickle' for 24 hours. My device was new 1/1/20. Best tablet I've owned for performance, display resolution, battery life () and aesthetics. Damn shame if dead. There is a useful teardown vid here here but I can't find a replacement battery anywhere. If I have any luck on any front I'll post back.

You even replaced the battery AND USB-C connector and that didn't give it any life?!? That's surprising to me! Thanks for trying that and reporting results... the mystery continues...
A buddy of mine mentioned another piece of hardware that could have failed, I'll report back if he remembers what that was.
@etraga When you had it open, you obviously didn't see anything bad but did you take a real good close look around specifically checking for any signs of a short or corrosion or anything like that? Sometimes they are not always obvious or easy to see.
Two Questions for everyone having this issue:
1 - When was the last time your device worked? For me it was a few days before my original post; around March 24, 2022. Curious if all of ours died at basically the same time, but maybe didn't try using it for a few weeks/months?
2 - What country are you located? USA for me. Asking because I wonder if there is ANY relation to the Huawei ban in the US. Highly doubtful, but at this point who knows...

Yes I've replaced both, I found a battery from Deutschland and USB-c connector from China on AliExpress. Maybe one of them don't work, it's really weird...
I didn't find anything special when I open the tablet.
I'm from France and my tablet doesn't work since May or June.
Found this thread after replacing the battery of a Huawei AGS-W09 MediaPad did not change the symptoms:
Red LED is on, close to the selfie cam when plugged into charger.
LED goes dark when disconnected.
No other form of life provokable from the machine.
Last summer (I think it was August 2022) I realized a sharp drop in battery capacity that soon resulted in the status quo described above.
Pretty sure a battery change should fix it, but no, it didn't. Just saw naive me got the battery from Aliexpress, however, so maybe I got a bad one.
Your symptoms are little bit different aren't they?

Here another one , Huawei Mediapad 8.4 SHT_W09 . It wont turn in anymore
i was busy with loading a stock rom from Sd Card, but i think it had a lack off power, i had it frequently on the charger.
It was functioning well but i was playing around with other roms
It was unlocked and by far a great tablet, very solid and no loose connector or something like that
if i connect it to my pc i can hear that the USB connects.
hope to bring it alive and kicking...
