Here's the story, bought an used S2, both back camera and front camera were working, but the back camera lens was a bit bad (the one on the case, it had scratches everywhere) so I replaced the back part of the case. My front camera had a little, small piece of dust inside it, so I disconnected the ribbon cable and lifted it up, my surprise was that when I kinda lifted it a bit up..
THESE TWO THINGS WERE SEPARATED.

The black thing (which I think it's called the lens) stayed on the hole.
In this hole:
it was not like the picture above, the black thing stayed down there and just the cable with some mirror-ish thing came out..
and the little piece of ribbon cable came apart without it. I gave it no importance and lifted the black thing by myself, cleaned both and when I did the reassembly and turned the phone on, the front facing camera gives me a force close as soon as I switch to it.
Any thoughts? did I damage the front camera by touching accidentally that part that looks like a mirror between the black thing and the ribbon piece? help! Back camera worked okay after some pushes, it wasn't working either but now it is..
Bump for justice.. I miss my front facing camera ;_;
Looks like my camera will remain dead.. seriously no one knows about hardware here?
I think you have accidentally removed the connection of front cam install antutu and check if it detects your front cam in specs
Just open it once more and see if its connected properly, check for any damage as well...see maybe there's a small "metal" parts that need to be matched together ("on top" and "bottom")
if everything looks fine, you will need to replace that cam

Yeah everything is as it should be, ribbon cables are connected properly.. I know it kinda looks like it's a hardware issue, it's so weird.. I would take some pics of how it looks now but I'm so afraid of damaging the rear camera(again) lol.. won't even touch the inner part..
Try to start it without SD card in the phone if that didn't help, fix permissions...
(I think you have already tried to force close the camera app and clear data?)
If this issue persists in different roms with different kernel's(considering you already tried different troubleshooting methods like a different cam app) it will probably be a hardware issue,

I don't own an SDcard.. and fixing permissions didn't help either. Yeah. every time I switched to front camera it would FC when I tried to open camera, so yeah I have wiped camera's data a lot of times.

Good trying out a different ROM with a different kernel will verify whether it was a camera driver issue, and also might bypass any other kind of application conflicts.

I am having problems with my new S2, the camera just wont focus. It just bleeps and a green square appears but nothing is in focus.
Any ideas? I am running the KE2 firmware
What focus setting is it on? Auto focus, macro or face detection?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Well I tried all three and nothing helps. It just bleeps but I dont see the camera trying to focus at all.
Can this be a hardware issue? or merely software? Should I try to update to the latest firmware in the hopes this might get fixed?
Did you do the firmware upgrade from samsung apps?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Yeah I did and it was updated to KE2 but I do believe there is an KE4/KE7 out right now? Still doesnt appear in my Kies however.
Nah the camera firmware was from the samsung app on the phone which installs an apk which yhen updates the camera. Is that the one you did?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Same here, a lot of times the camera doesnt focus
for example if I want to do a macro photo I select the macro, then the camera focus nice, but if I move it and I try to focus another thing the camera doesnt do it.
In auto mode with some barcode programs it doesnt work either if I try to focus close.

Hmn... but I never seen mine focus or even try. You know when the camera goes blur and then back sharp? Mine just stays static lol Not sure if it is normal but it does seem like a problem.
Checking the Firmware for the camera, it says
Cam FW Ver: OCED10
Phone FW Ver: TBEC28
Hmn... now should I claim warranty for this? or this can be fixed lol ? I hate for it to be sent to warranty claims
I know this sounds silly, but have you tried cleaning your lense?
Sometimes if the lense is a bit dirty (even invisible oil), it tries to focus on the oil. The distortion could trick the camera into thinking it's in focus (the closest to being focus) and just pop the green square.
Haha I hope it was that simple. Tried that actually, and it doesnt help
if doesnt focus anything or at least try it, probably the camera is broken.
Use warranty dont doubt it
I have the same problem, but only sometimes.
Check and see if you actually get out of focus shots after you have snapped a pic. I'm still on the phone's very first firmware and I am having trouble updating it for some reason...

Taking pictures of far objects are ok. Seems to just be a static focus but when I try to take pictures of anything near or of someone close that I need to focus, The camera does nothing, there is no attempt at focus even when there is the green focus box.
Guess the camera might be broken , will call up for warranty.

Your phone is most likely broken, you should send it back. Here is a 100% crop of a picture directly from the SGS2 and looks plenty sharp to me.

Thanks! But I hope there might be another solution. I have tried different kernel versions, but I did not succeed. The barcode scanner works perfectly, but normal pictures remain blur.
I have sent it back to repair. Hopefully, It wont last for ages.
I do have the same issue on mine (no auto focus).
Did you get any feedback?

Go to market and write "dead pixel" there is a lot of test programs.
"Dead pixel detect and fix" is one of them, try a few and see the result
Dead pixel or someone flushed out from an aeroplane
Uuuuhm guys....
Dead Pixel apps attempt to fix DISPLAY errors. He obviously has an issue with the CAMERA having a dead pixel.
Nor does the kernel have much to say with such issues!
Your only chance is to bring it back and have it replaced or the camera unit swapped (="repaired").
You best bet is to take multiple photos in multiple locations, crop them as you did with the the one attached and show them to the staff so you can convince them.

Airplanes have holding tanks for body wastes. Only the water from the handwashing bassin is AFAIK released into the air on some models.
Well you can never be sure with the russion Antonov's but I guess even they have (or at one point had ) holding tanks.

Omg, seeker. It was a joke
Info:And yes they use tanks but only to a certain height then it is dumped as u flush. As i recall it's at 6k's height they open the flush tunnel..
About pixel you're right, pixel fixer can't help in any way here. If it's the camera at all, u need a camera hw replacement
It might be as easy that there is a spec of dust between the rear plastic cover holding the lens and the camera module? but if it is the camera module have it replaced not fun with a dead pixel
That a dead pixel on the sensor, you could easily clone that out if it bugs you.
Olympus use to do something great in their DSLR camera's for that problem which was called pixel mapping, which basically mapped the sensor looking for dead pixels and automatically clone them out.
As i recall it's at 6k's height they open the flush tunnel..

I don't recall the exit being large enough for anything other than fluid on either the Boeing 747-700 or 747-8.
Are you sure it's not just the water they dump? They can't dump water either below 2km since people would not be very happy about it
However... who would even go to the toilet during take off or landing? It's strictly forbidden and dangerous on all sorts of planes...
And if you're less than 2km above ground in cruise mode, there is definitively something wrong
It might be as easy that there is a spec of dust between the rear plastic cover holding the lens and the camera module?

Dust typically doesn't give a single black pixel. If it's small enough to only cover a single pixel that would be some sort of dark grey, otherwise multiple pixels would show black or distorted colors.
If it's on your cam, best case scenario is that it's just some dust although it might prove a pain to dislodge, worst case it's actually the cam.
Only thing I think you could do is return the phone.

So I bought this broken HTC EVO 4G LTE on ebay and seller described that the phone fell of his pocket while riding a motorcycle and so the glass and digitizer broke (which doesn't matter for now), he also said that the Main/Rear camera stop working after a week of the accident.
Here's some pictures (I'm new so I'm not allowed to post links)
i.imgur.com/kwSJTFG.jpg
i.imgur.com/usjUmsY.jpg
As you can see the screen is cracked and doesn't have a back top cover.
So after I got it the first thing I did was to check the camera and when I clicked the camera app and it automatically showed the front facing camera so I decided to change the camera mode to the main camera and noticed that it didn't show any camera mode option. Here's a comparison screenshot between my phone and a working phone from phonedog:

i.imgur.com/QsTVW2k.jpg
So I'm wondering is it a software problem or do I need to replace the rear camera or something else? Do anyone have a solution for this

I added the images for u to make everyones life easier if their on the xda app or tapatalk. That's one messed up screen though. As for the camera it might of damaged the camera entirely so the phone isn't picking it up at all which might be y the option to switch between the FFC and the rear was removed from the sense camera, try a 3rd party app and see if it gives u the option but it might say that there isn't a rear camera

I forgot to mention this but I installed Tiny Flashlight and Pudding Camera, for the Tiny Flashlight app everytime I wanted to turn on the Camera LED all it did was just turned the Screen Light mode. As for the Pudding Camera all it did was automatically used the front facing camera.

I keep my phone super clean and always protected. Yet, unlucky me, I got dust on the camera sensor. Last week a dark spot started to show on my photos.. it usually shows when the background is something bright like sky.
I guess I need to take it apart and spray some compressed air on the camera but I was wondering if I need to really open the camera module..
Thanks
Is dust on camera lens or camera module ? It's very easy to open phone and clean camera lens, but with cam module I don't know

I honestly don't know.. I can't really see it with my eyes, just the stain in the photos.
I guess I'll need to open the phone anyway to get to the camera module and lens, but I'm not sure if it's on the lens or the sensor..
From my experience with DSLRs, it looks identical to dust on sensor..which is kinda hard to get to here.
Frustrated.. the camera was 95% of my decision to get the G5.
Just two days ago I noticed the same thing. My educated guess is that it really is inside the lens as it moves while focusing. This movement sucks in dust particles from the inside of the phone. Due to the very large gap between the "default module" and the body of the phone the inside of the phone gets very dusty.
I got the feeling that this is a bad case of "design/engineering problem" where the implications of one design decision were not taken into account for other components.
I fixed it! Opened the phone (pretty easy if I might add, just look for youtube videos), sprayed the camera module with a compressed air can and walla.. All good now
I have same problem with one of the rear camera lens. I don't have any tools to open the phone. What can I use?

Just kidding. Use a Philips #00 screwdriver to unscrew the two screws you'll see inside the phone with the bottom removed. Then the display can be popped up revealing the rest of the internals.
I know yes but I don't have the tools to remove display. I'm afraid to use a credit card not to scratch the phone...

This is an fix I've find for my Z Ultra, maybe It works for
your's too.
When I lift up a little bit the USB-Port, the Prox-sensor
worked again.
You can slightly push with your fingertip or with an USB cable plugged in.
When this makes the sensor working, put a little thin piece of plastic direct right under the USB Port.
Put It between the USB Port and the bezel, so that the USB connector stays that little up.
You can give feedback if it works or not.

The last cm nightly build for togari: https://archive.org/download/cmarchive_nighlies before they shut down cyanogenmod.
I use SensorDisabler: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mrchandler.disableprox to fake a maximum distance.
I reset the value to default in the app and made a call to see what would happen. Before the screen just went dark as soon as I pressed the dial button. But now the screen stays on and shuts off if I hover my finger over the sensor and turns back on when I remove the finger.
I like to point out that my phone behaved the same way regardless of which rom I flashed. Its was not an issue caused by cyanogenmod.
Wow thank you for sharing your solution. I've been trying to fix my proximity sensor but found no good solution until I found your thread. Thank You again!
